1st Powers Training Lesson
###
After the 'lap time', Mouthy was guided by his teacher to what looked like a large gymnasium deep in the Castle. This floor was taken up by four huge gyms, one for each house.
They were all currently empty, given that the other students were in their crafting elective.
Sombra explained the Doctor designed these rooms, and all the equipment, to be near indestructible. That way they could really cut loose.
"This is a lesson I'm going to give every puff else during power training but we'll go over it now." Sombra explained.
Mouthy tilted his head, "Every... Puff?"
Sombra teased. "If you lot can say 'everypony' and 'every creature' I don't see a problem with 'Every Puff'."
"What did you guys say a thousand years ago?" Mouthy asked.
"Omnis," Sombra smiled. "Old Ponish is the only true language ponies have. It started as a written language, for magical runes. As such it doesn't translate, not even to pony ears. Scholars were fascinated by it and started teaching it in schools long before Equestria was founded. I was sad to learn it has become a lost art."
"Eh?" Mouthy tilted his head to the other side, not really following.
"All those creatures attending this school, aren't actually speaking the same language. You just hear it in a way you comprehend. That is a result of your pony blood. Ponies can understand any Spoken language, though you still need to learn how to read and write. We used to right everything using magical runes, but written language has evolved into complex loops and squiggles to express ideas.
"However, even before we learn how to speak the words ourselves, we understand them, and can be understood by others. It's part of our vocal magics. Like how we can persuade others into doing what we want with a well placed song and a half decent argument. It's also how we can connect to others and sing spontaneous songs with them, without any issue at all. Most races can't do any of that. They all speak different languages.
"Old Ponish is a magical language, so our ears can't comprehend it unless taught. Ponies used to eagerly use it to express themselves. Now, ponies speak in instinctive animal sounds that other creatures somehow comprehend as words, which is just lazy." Sombra rolled his eyes. "Regardless we need to get to work on molding your chakra. That way you can then learn to tap into your less passive racial powers."
"I already know that though." Mouthy held up his head with a pride that toed the line of smug.
Sombra smiled, "Do you now?"
"Yep! Koto Sensei, He's my tutor, he taught me all kinds of things. That's why it was so hard to pick an elective. I already started on all the magical crafts and I couldn't decide which I wanted to continue learning the most! They are all SOOOOO COOOOOL! Koto Sensei taught me Runes and Potions and-and ENCHANTMENTS! I couldn't pick just one! He also taught me to mold Chakra to use them and cast spells and stuff."
Sombra blinked, "Spells?"
"Well... not unicorn spells. Yokai can do something called 'Elder Scrolls Style'. It's a a lot less flashy and... honestly not nearly as powerful... still pretty neat though. I just know a hoof-ful of training spells for it and junior dueling spells."
"Junior dueling?" Sombra asked.
"Just a Splash spell for destruction, a Tickle spell for alteration, flash of light spell for Illusion. You know, stuff like that, all completely harmless but fun to do in a Yokai Junior Dueling tournament... I just barely turned old enough to fight in them. But I've been working REEEEEELLLY hard so that I will totally kick some flanks!"
Sombra eyed the excitable hanyou, "But you haven't started training your other racial magics?"
"Koto Sensei says you got to wait til your 11 for that. Cuz the magical core needs to stabilize. But I'm 11 now and I was going to learn... but then school started..." The boy pouted, "But that's Okay cuz YOU can teach me my Yokai powers." Mouthy stood on his back hooves and did a pose with his front paws. "I'll be the bestest space spy EVER!"
Sombra smiled. "Let's get to work then. Start by Molding your Chakra into your belly."
"That's easy!" Mouthy brought his paws together and focused, feeling the flow of his magic rush to his tummy.
"Impressive," Sombra acknowledged, "Your Sensei taught you well."
"Thanks!" Mouthy grinned, his chakra temporarily glitching as he paused to talk, but he managed to get it under control.
"Careful there,"
Mouthy blushed but stayed focused.
"Good, now, move the magic from your belly, towards your heart, and into your paws. Then Release it"
"Got it." Mouthy easily did that bit... but nothing cool happened other then a burst of air around the boy.
"Good, let's practice that a few times first."
Mouthy had to do it a good ten times before Sombra let him move on to the next step.
"Normally, you would have to say an incantation to use this as a spell, but since this is a racial trait you don't have to worry about using magical words in exactly the right way well releasing your Chakra. But I would recommend you at least say the name of the technique, as it will help you focus better and eventually become like muscle memory, triggered by a phrase."
Mouthy gave an adamant nod.
Sombra smiled, "Now, while releasing your Chakra, like we practiced, well reciting 'Shadow Clone Jutsu' and keeping an image of yourself in your head." Any creature else would have to use a focus and recite "Kage bunshin no jutsu" but since this was a racial trait, neither of those things were very important to the ability for the Hanyou. It made it easier to use
There was a loud pop and suddenly a dead mutant horse fox was twitching on the floor... just one of dozens.
Mouthy screamed, before hiding behind Sombra. The Shadow Pony stiffened. Some creature, no some CHILD, was looking to him for protection. Was trusting him to keep them safe... after everything the pony did...
"G-Good first attempt." Sombra forced himself to say. Overwhelmed by emotions, as he was, he couldn't forget to assure the child it was okay... and it really was an impressive sight. Even if the clones weren't fully formed, the fact the boy created so many on his first try spoke of his power and potential, "Don't be scared, they came from you, you can dispell them. Just try absorbing their Chakra. Pull it back into you"
The boy did that easily enough, although most of the Chakra was lost instead of being reabsorbed, but that was too be expected for some creature so young.
They spent the rest of the elective hour practicing their magics. By the end of it, the boy was exhausted... but he could make a dozen stable clones, exact duplicates of himself.
"Good job kid!" Sombra smiled, "Now, you go back to the tower to rest but leave your clones with me."
Mouthy tilted his head.
"You're clones can learn how to control other powers, during today's scheduled lessons. However, your real body is spent. You need to return to your dorm and rest."
Mouthy sighed, "Yes Sir... I am pretty tired... but how come my clones aren't?"
"They have as much Stamina as the Magicka you put into them. They are strong, strictly because you are tired, and they will dispell when they get exhausted, using up the magic you put into them. The spell will collapse if they get too strained. I will be sure to be mindful of that. Now off you get. Your magic should replenish itself after an hour's rest. So just go play videogames or something."
###
Sombra watched as the other Cleric teachers entered the house with their students. They paused seeing all the Smart Mouth's standing around, but quickly shook their heads and brought the other kids in.
"Mouthy," Sombra asked the nearest clone, "Think you can show DRWolf how to make Shadow Clones?"
The boy grinned, happy to be the teacher's helper, "SURE!" before running off to the wolf Yokai.
"Hufflepuffs." Sombra smiled as the students filed in front of him, while the teachers stood at his side. "You probably haven't met all these instructors so let me introduce them. With me is Professors: Bon Bon, your enchantment instructor. She has a Templar class. Which basically makes her a mix of a Warrior & a Cleric. Next we have Mage Meadowbrook. She is a mix of a Mage and a Cleric, called a Paladin. She is your potions instructor. Then we have Yona, who has studied as a specialized Cleric. Meaning she was not born with a class but learned one. That is possible for Classes, but not Archetypes. She is teaching the art of Dance. At the end of most school days, we will join together to teach you how to control the powers of your Race, Class, and Archetype."
Frost Bite slowly, and very hesitantly, raised his hoof, "Miss Yona?"
"Yes?" The Yak smiled.
"Is it true you saved the world from an Invasion of Rhino Yokai?"
"They was Judoon, not Yokai, aliens from beyond our galaxy. They was searching for bad criminal and not caring if they hurt good creatures to get her. Yona and her friends teach Judoon to be nicer and help them capture bad criminal," informed the Yak, "She in space jail now."
"Any other questions?" Sombra smiled, looking around the room. When none of the children raised an arm, "Good, let's begin your lesson."
"Yona teach Wendigo!" The boy gulped but she didn't look mean or anything. She actually seemed pretty excited... still Wendigos often lived in the frozen north, feeding off Crystal ponies... and Yaks...
The students paired off with a teacher and eagerly started to learn how to use their powers.
Yona explained to the little fog creature, "Wendigos feed on emotions, but can no feed on other Wendigos. Wendigos no need to hurt others to feed. Yona teach how feed on good emotions."
Frost Bite scrunched up his face. That was like telling a carnivore they had to live off tofu. Technically possible, but not very tasty. It's not like Wendigos could even manipulate emotions or anything. Although his natural ability to feed off emotions made him more aware of them. It's how he could tell DRWolf was reading him. If it had been a telepath, instead of an Empath, he wouldn't have noticed.
Regardless, Unlike Doppelganger Changelings, Wendigos don't drained other creatures to feed off them... well they usually didn't. They could, theoretically, but their civilization had grown beyond such barbarism millenniums ago. They just feed on the excess energy emotions produce...
Admittedly, Wendigos will try to manipulate events to get the tastier emotions from Sapient Creatures. The emotions of animals aren't as complex and so not as filling. Not to say animals don't feel but Sapient creatures think a dozen thoughts at once and feel countless ways about it at the same time. Animals are more straightforward, with less contradictions.
There were Wendigos that feed off positive emotions, or from animals, but they were considered "Hippies" and not well respected at all.
Besides, it was obvious, from the meals he had, that the Doctor's machines could create emotional energy without having to hurt any creature... so why did he have to feed on all that Flower power stuff to?
"Yona show Wendigo can be better for him." Yona insisted, "Then Yona teach Wendigo how to turn INVISIBLE, and how make cold and snow."
Frost Bite's eyes widened, "How do you know we can do that!?"
"Lots of Wendigos in Frozen North. Yaks watch them, like Wendigos watch Yaks. So Yona can teach Wendigo!" The Yak puffed up her chest in pride.
Frost Bite... blinked... "O-okay..."

Screwball wasn't startled, not at all, she was so use to creatures appearing out of nowhere, she wasn't even phased as the voice said "Hello," from behind her.
She casually looked, in almost a bored stare.
The Doctor pouted, as if he was hoping to catch her off guard. Then pranced in place, "Who wants to learn how to fundamentally alter the universe!"
Screwball gave a smile. At least this teacher would be worthy of her.
"First," The Doctor smiled as he turned away from her. He raised his hoof, just as it began to glow yellow... but a different shade of yellow then the Clerics' pathways, "We need to get you some place you can flex without causing Earthquakes."
He threw the yellow energy to the side and the air suddenly cracked apart. The cracks were forced open and inside was a white void.
"Discord!" The Doctor yelled, "We'll be in infinite nothing verse 73-B4. So stop glaring at me!" The pony stopped yelling at nothing and smiled at Screwball, "Your brother's waiting for us."
