THE GREEN LANTERN
HAL JORDAN PART 1. ABIN SUR
OA – HOME WORLD OF THE GUARDIANS AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORE
From the chaos of the great war emerged the Guardians of OA. Often referred to as the first race. And looking upon the chaos the Guardians created the Manhunters to police the universe. But their creations went rogue and so they harnessed the power of will and formed the Green Lantern Core. From the many races throughout the Galaxy were chosen individuals to wield the power of the Lantern Rings.
Then rose Paralax from among the Guardians who harnessed the power of Fear and created the yellow Lantern, but before he could use its power, Paralax was defeated by Abin Sur who imprisoned Paralax and hid the Yellow Lantern and its ring. Abin Sur is a legend in the Core of Lanterns. A former scientist from his home world of Ungara. His mentor was another legendary Lantern named Starkoar.
Abin Sur's skin is light purple as all of his species. Upon receiving a summons by the Guardians Abin Sur flies to the citadel which towers above all structures on Oa. The Guardians are four feet tall with blue skin. They wear red and white robes with Green Lantern symbol on their robes glowing. "Abin Sur welcome!" When the Guardians speak they speak with their minds.
"Guardians."
"We have a mission that only you can handle."
"I am yours to command Guardians."
"Before you return to your sector we ask that you travel to the Planet Thanagar."
The Guardians speak in turns, "We have been monitoring the Thanagars for a long time now and their ongoing war with the Gordanians…We are sending you to collect one from each race to fit them with rings of power. You will train and teach the Thanagarian. Your former pupil Sinestro will teach the Gordanian."
"I will leave at once." As he flies to his ship, Abin Sur is met by Kilowog and Tamar Ray. Abin Sur takes off and opens a wormhole to Thanagar. His ship is cloaked and after getting permission he flies down to speak with the Praetor of Thanagar.
"A Green Latern on Thanagar…What may I do for you Abin Sur of the Latern Core…"
The knowledge of the Laterns expands the universe so Abin Sur can speak the Thanagarian language. "The Guardians wish to choose to someone from among your people to join the Core."
The Praetorian assembles his best warriors and Abin Sur chooses Shiera Hall. Shiera is tall with red hair and like all Thanagarians she has wings. Abin Sur places a green bubble around them and they float up into orbit and board his ship. Then he jumps to the home world of the Gordanians. "Why are we here?" She angrily asks.
He sighs, "The Guardians foster peace above all things. They wish to make this offer to the Gordanians as well…They hope that if you and the Gordanian I chose will become Lanterns and end the war between your people."
After many words of wisdom he convinces Shiera to stay. When he brings the Gordanian up he has to separate the two before they kill each other. As Abin Sur's ship makes a wormhole jump, it is yanked out of the wormhole into another Galaxy.
"What happened?" Shiera asks.
"Something pulled us out of the Wormhole jump!"
"By Uthak what is that?"
"We are Legion prepare to die." A tall golden battle drone says.
Abin Sur puts a shield around his ship. "This is impossible that thing is feeding off my ring's energy." Shiera takes the controls and tries calling for help, but the systems are damaged. She flies away from the Android Legion and it chases them.
"Shit the wormhole projector is damaged!"
"Scan for a natural wormhole!" Abin Sur yells.
"I found one…It is unstable we could wind up anywhere in the Universe." The Gordanian says.
Shiera looks at Abin Sur and he nods. Just as they reach the wormhole Legion blasts the hull of the ship, A shard of metal strikes Abin Sur in the chest. The Gondanian is impaled on a lose bulkhead and Shiera bumps her head and is knocked unconscious. The ship's integrity shields activate stopping the oxygen from escaping and the emergency life support comes on.
The ship spins out of control in the wormhole and exits just outside the Terran system. Abin Sur is still alive he points his ring hand at the controls and creates a green energy construct of a pilot. Using the projection he pilots the ship to earth. The ship enters the atmosphere and crashes a few miles outside of Coast City, California.
Abin Sur looks at his ring, "My time has come…Go search far and wide for someone worthy of you and my legacy." The ring flies off his finger and goes to Shiera Hall who is unconscious. Then it flies out of the wreckage.
HAL JORDON
He sits in his chair drawing in his tablet as the Colonel Matthews Hix chooses pilots to test the new Lex Corp X-Series fighter jet. "Carol Ferris."
She stands up, "Yes sir thank you sir!"
"Alright Hal Jordon."
He stands up, "Sir! Yes Sir."
As they walk from the conference together they stop to watch the television. Superman has appeared before the Security Council to talk about his actions in attacking the Lex Corp launch site. "Do you think Lex Luthor is guilty?" A pilot asks Hal.
"Guilty as sin. If Superman says he tried to blow California…He is guilty says I."
He and Carol keep walking, "He didn't try to blow up California. He was trying to cause the San Andreas fault to go critical."
"Potato Patato. Man is full blown criminal and I take issue with testing his fighter jets."
They get dressed and head to their jets. They fly the jets testing their speed and handling. They test their altitude limits and the weapons systems. When they land Hal and Carol go out for drinks. The two of them broke up as Carol caught Hal with another woman. The only reason she stays friends with him is because as his wing-mate she gets the best assignments. In his spare time Hal likes to draw and paint. He is very talented and creates characters on the side for Action Comics. Too drunk to drive he calls a cab and drops on his sofa. As he sleeps his window opens and the ring flies in. It hovers over him and then it slips onto his finger.
OA
Fi'Ran is a Daxamite and was chosen two years after Krypton exploded. He is a Keeper of names in the Hall of Fallen Heroes. When a Green Lantern dies his ring returns to the Guardians unless that Guardian bequeaths it to someone or commands his ring to find someone worthy of it. Fi'Ran stares dumbfounded as Abin Sur's name appears on the wall.
"Abin Sur has passed into memorial…His ring has not returned to us so that means he has bequeathed it to another." A Guardian says. "We must find this new Lantern."
Sinestro steps forward, "Guardians…Abin Sur was my mentor…My friend…I ask that you allow me to find his successor."
CRASH SITE
NASA had tracked the unidentified flying object and General William S. Castle and Amanda Waller were sent to the Crash Site. "Another alien. A prerequisite for an alien invasion if you ask me." Castle says.
"Lets just hope this Alien is as friendly as Superman."
"Ha! The Alien was lying."
Waller looks at him, "Why?"
"Come on Waller bombing the San Andreas Fault."
"They did find known criminal Otis Berg at the site and some of his men testified for immunity that they were there to set off explosives at the fault."
"And yet the State Department found no evidence tying Luthor to the company that bought all that land up."
Just then a soldier dressed in a radiation suit walks up and salutes, "General, Ma'am we found two bodies, one dead and the other unconscious. Definitely not human. A female with wings. The other looks like a lizard."
Waller looks at General Castle, "I want to bring Emile Hamilton of Star Labs in on this."
PART 2. GREEN LANTERN
HAL JORDON
When he wakes up he notices the ring on his finger after using the bathroom. "Boy was I drunk. Where did you come from?" The ring starts glowing and ball of green energy flies from it and becomes a humanoid. "What the…"
"Greetings human…My name is Abin Sur…of the Green Lantern Core and my ring has chosen you.."
"Chosen me to what?"
"To be a protector, to be its wielder…I pass all my knowledge to you Hal Jordon." The ghost like alien walks up to Hal and enters his body. Hall hits the floor passing out.
SINESTRO
He flies to Earth using his ring and using it he finds Abin Sur's successor unconscious on the floor of a primitive building. "A human. For the first time in ages a human is chosen to be a Latern." Sinestro engulfs the unconscious Hal Jordon and flies off as Carol knocks on his door. He brings him to Oa and places him in the medical center.
The other Lanterns make bets on whether or not he survived the mental bonding process. When Hal awakens he finds a violet skinned alien standing over him. "Welcome to Oa Hal Jordon."
He jumps up, "Who are you? Where am I?"
"I ask the Questions human and you answer them…What do you remember?"
"I woke up, took a piss, and…" He looks at his hand. "…This ring was on my finger. An Alien named Abin Sur appeared to me."
"Who was Abin Sur?"
"He was the bearer of this ring before me. Green Latern and protector of sector 2193."
Sinestro nods, "Who am I?"
He stares at him, "You are Sinestro…Abin Sur was your mentor."
"And who was Abin Sur's Mentor."
"A Lantern known as Starkoar."
He asks many questions which Hal is able to answer. "One last question human. Abin Sur was best known for defeating the traitor Paralax. Where is Paralax's prison?"
Hal frowns, "I can't tell you that."
"Why not?"
"Because the Guardians made him swear to never reveal where it is. And now I am bound by that oath."
HAL JORDON
Sinestro nods, "Time to use your ring…Dawn the uniform of the Lantern." Hal looks at his ring and then a wave of energy goes across his body and behind the wave a green and black suit appears behind it. There is a mask on his face. "Well done. Now follow me." Hal smiles as Sinestro starts glowing and flies up. It takes a few seconds, but Hal is able to fly and follow him through the air despite Sinestro's attempt to lose him. "Well done human."
"My name is Hal Jordon."
"Hal Jordon…It would seem you were destined to be a Green Lantern. You may live up to Abin Sur's legend after all. Let us see how you do with combat training."
Sinestro floats away from Hal to a distance of ten feet. Then he creates energy bows with his ring and starts to shoot arrows at Hal. Hal creates a metal wall with his ring. 'Son of a Bitch!"
"Good use your will…Your imagination…It will give shape to your constructs. Now defend yourself! Counter my attacks!" He creates a huge bolder and drops it on Hal, who places a shield around him. The transparent green bolder shatters against his shield. Then Sinestro creates a herd of buffalo to charge Hal, who counters with a T-Rex. Back and forth they go for hours when Hal's ring stops working.
"Your ring is out of power. Now what Hal Jordon?"
"I have to recharge it with the Lantern..."
"And where is your Lantern Hal Jordon?"
He closes his eyes mentally searching for it, "Shit! Its back on earth hidden in the ship."
Sinestro produces his own Lantern, "Here recharge your ring with my own." It takes a minute to recharge the ring. "Now come it is time to meet the Guardians." They fly to the citadel of the Guardians. Oa is one of the most advanced civilizations in the Universe. There are cities scattered across the planet. Many Green Lanterns come and go on the planet some serve as permanent Acolytes and then there are the Emerald Knights who protect Oa and the Guardians.
"Guardians may I present Abin Sur's successor Hal Jordon."
"Hal Jordon recite the oath of the Lanterns."
"In brightest day, In blackest night! No evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might beware power-Green Lantern's light!"
"He has past all my tests Guardians…May I recommend he be placed as the Protector of sector 2814 and report to me."
