Chapter 21: Multiple Trips

.

The bus pulled up to the front of the school and everyone piled on, just like the cafeteria had places so did the bus. Nerds sitting at the front, the jocks and cheerleaders at the back and everyone else dotted in between. The trio sat at the middle to back of the bus and as best as they could away from most of the other students.

Sam took the window seat and Dan sat next to her not really knowing why, his thoughts somewhere else as he sat down. There were other seats around to sit in but this was the first one he chose and it would look odd to others and to Sam and Tucker if he chose to move seats now so he was stuck with it. Tucker sat in the seats in front of the pair to make sure they were all within chatting distance.

Dan took out his new phone and earphones from his backpack trying to distract himself away from focusing on the fact he was sitting next to Sam and in a bus full of noisy students with some music he could blast in his ears.

"Where did you get that?" Asked Tucker leaning over the back of his seats.

"Vlad gave it to me, to used in case of emergency in case my powers come back with any problems." explained Dan not looking up from scrolling through his phone. Sam and Tucker were both sceptical about that being the only reason Vlad had given Dan the phone but didn't question him further on it.

"We should probably call Danny and tell him what's going on with your powers and stuff." Tucker said while hanging over the back of his seat.

"Whatever." muttered Dan as he pulled his hood up on his hoodie and leaned back in the seat listening to some music through his earphones.

Before Tucker could talk to Sam more about calling Danny and explaining the situation Valerie came up to where the trio were sitting and sat on the isle seat across from Dan. Tucker looked over to her and smiled which caused Valerie to smile back at him.

Sam took notice of Tuckers quietness and glanced over the top of Dan's head to see what had captured her friends attention and that was Valerie, sat only a few feet from a psychotic ghost trapped in the human form of his former self that wanted the dark skinned girl dead, they had managed to avoid her for the most part but there was no telling how Dan would react with her so close.

Dan noticed his two companions attention was no longer on him and turned his head to the side to see Valerie sat a few feet away, he clenched his fist not holding his phone and his breath hitched in anger of seeing the 'heartless little witch' again.

"How are you after yesterday, I heard Phantom tried to attack you guys?" Valerie asked in fake concern, pushing to know more about how the three knew Phantom to see if they would share anything on him that would make it easier for her as Red Huntress to stop him once and for all.

Sam grabbed a hold of Dan's hand, holding onto it tightly to make sure he didn't do anything stupid like swing at the young hunter. Dan's focus then came away from the girl that had been his enemy for the past ten years and was entirely focused on his female friends hands wrapped around his.

He remembered the last time Sam my Sam held his hand like this, in desperation to keep him grounded, it was when he went off to defeat Pariah Dark for the first time after Vlad had accidently let him loose. Dan was staring so intently at their conjoined hands he almost blocked everything going on around him out until the song he was listening to stopped playing through his earphones as it ended, leaving a few seconds of silence where he heard Valerie talking before the next song started playing.

"Uh we're fine, he didn't mean to attack us anyway. It was all a bit of a misunderstanding really." answered Sam.

"Besides the Red Huntress came along to help out so everything worked out in the end." Added Tucker.

Once Valerie figured she wasn't going to get anything more from the group about Phantom she moved closer to the front of the bus after telling them she was glad they were okay. Once she was gone Dan and Sam ripped their hands away from each other and folded their arms across their chests.

The bus had been driving through Amity for about 10 minutes and as the bus pulled to a stop the trio looked out the windows at the Nasty Burger and the whole bus groaned. Mr Lancer being on of the two teachers on the bus, started explaining about the Burger restaurant to which everyone tuned out, once the teacher had finished his initial introduction he exited the bus which queued the pupils on the bus to follow suit.

"Seriously the Nasty Burger? Why did it have to be here?" grumbled Dan feeling and looking more uncomfortable by the second looking at the fast food restaurant.

"Probably some sort of cosmic punishment for you." Said Sam, as she lent her back up against the window looking at Dan in the seat next to her.

"Don't push it." Dan glared.

"Or what? Not as though you can actually do anything at the minute." Sam smirked, loving the fact Dan had no powers. Sure she was probably going to pay once he got them back but for now she could talk to him anyway she liked with no immediate consequences.

"Look this trip is only supposed to last about an hour, I don't expect they can talk about this place for more than that anyway and then it'll be back to our good old lessons back at school. I know this place is probably not your favourite place in the world." Tucker said quietly while hanging over the back of his seat to look at his two friends.

"How'd you figure that? This being the place where I was ripped from my body and shoved into this one?" Dan gestured to himself. "Or the fact that my last plan to kill you all backfired here?" He held up two fingers. "Or maybe the fact that when this place blew up it killed everyone I ever loved in one big fiery explosion that is burned into my memory forever?" He held up a third finger, glaring at Tucker. "Take your pick."

"Be quiet or someone's gunna overhear you." Sam hissed at Dan, he rolled his eyes in response and Tucker sighed deeply.

The trio of friends were the last ones off the bus, Dan not wanting to leave and just stay on the bus, Tucker exiting first followed by Dan and then Sam. Dash stuck his leg out on the last step off the bus as Dan was walking down them causing him to trip over the jocks leg and sent him flying to the floor. Everyone in the vicinity that saw Dan trip started laughing at him apart from Sam and Tucker as he pushed himself up off the floor of the carpark.

Dan felt anger and something else, something he hadn't felt fully for a long time, humiliation. Everyone was laughing at him, not one person had dared to do that for the past 10 years.

He grit his teeth and glared at the laughing crowd, once he had got himself into a standing position he balled his fists up ready to march over and punch everyone laughing, starting with the smug blonde football player. The heels of his hands however started to ache and sting and he unclenched his fists to look at the palms to see what was causing the ache and he realised the his hands were scraped up where he put his hands out on reflex to break his fall from the bus.

Sam took one of his hands examining it as Tucker started talking about what idiots everyone in school was and why they felt it necessary to always pick on one person collectively. Dan tuned Tucker out as all he could focus on was the fact that Sam was holding his hand. Yes she was examining his hand but Sam was still holding his hand. Dan started to feel a blush start to creep across his cheeks while looking at their conjoined hands.

"They're just grazed, I suppose not having your powers is effecting you more than I though. No more pain tolerance or quick healing." she half joked looking up at Dan's face where she caught his flushed cheeks and quickly dropped his hand and taking a step back from him.

Dan rubbed the back of his neck turning away from the pair to hide his red face and to silently curse his stupid human body and the emotions that came with it. He needed to get this under control, he couldn't just start blushing like this every time his crush held his hand or looked at him. Wooow wait, crush? No absolutely not. Sam is Danny's crush not mine. My Sam is dead and gone. This is not my Sam.

Mr Lancer got the classes attention once again and split them into groups. Luckily the trio of friends all got put in the same group, unfortunately that group also contained Dash, Kwan, Paulina, Star and Valerie along with Nate, Rebecca and Mia. As Mr Lancer divided up the class he told the trio's group would be going on a tour of the inside first to see the inner workings and then the groups would swap over and the group not having the inside tour would be outside the restaurant thinking about how to write an essay on 'Fast food and healthy living'.

Once the class had been split up Mr Lancer took Dan's group inside the building while the others sat with the other teacher on the benches outside. Once inside the group was instructed to take a seat in the booths by the front registers and listen to the man behind the counter that was going to talk to them about the food they cook and sell.

Dash, Kwan, Star and Paulina took one booth while Nate, Rebecca and Mai took the one in the middle and Dan, Sam and Tucker took the last booth. Mr Lancer stood up to the side by the Nasty Burger worker and Valerie went and sat on the small two seater table by the condiment counter on her own because she didn't want to sit with anyone in the booths or she didn't feel like she was welcomed there.

It felt like the Nasty Burger employee had been talking about the place for hours when in fact it had only been no longer than 20 minutes when suddenly the front doors of the burger place were slammed open and in jumped a large man in an orange jumpsuit following closely behind was a slim woman clad in a blue jumpsuit.

"Ghost!" shouted the orange man.

"No Jack, looks like it's a false alarm." Said the woman moving her red goggles to the top of her head and looking around at all the students in the building.

"I cannot believe they're here, seriously can I not catch a break." Dan slumped at the table they were sat at trying to stay out of view of his old parental figures.

"Told you cosmic punishment." Said Sam.

"More like Clockwork meddling." Grumbled Dan.

"Is that not like the same thing?" Joked Tucker laughing. Dan just glared.

"Not to be rude Mr and Mrs Fenton but is there any particular reason you have decided to interrupt my class field trip?"

"We had a few reports about a troublesome ghost being in the area and thought we'd come check it out, keep the town safe and all that." Smiled Jack Fenton.

"Oh my god, even with the losers parents interrupting whatever this so called field trip is, it is sooooo boring." moaned Paulina.

"I know right? We could be doing stuff so much more interesting right now, like shopping! I wish we could be anywhere but here." wished Star with a pout.

The contraption in Mr Fenton's hand then started to flash and beep erratically drawing the three adults attention.

"What does that mean?" asked Lancer slightly worried the machine would explode.

"It means there's a ghost close by." Explained Maddie. The NB worker that was giving the tour heard this and ran off to hide in the store room out the back.

"Must be the one that was here a couple of days ago come back to reek more havoc, but we're here this time so that ghost is going down!" Shouted Jack pulling out the Fenton rod only for it to be a tangled mess like normal. Jack handed Maddie the ghost detector device so that he could focus on untangling the ghost fishing rod.

At hearing this Valerie went slightly pale. The ghost from the other day? If HE was here then they had to run NOW.

"So you have wished it." the wishing ghost said as she rose up from the floor.

"Oh hell no. Don't you dare!" Growled Dan as he looked up towards the ghost that his younger self was supposed to be hunting down.

"So it shall be." Desiree smirked.

"Desiree! No! Wait!" Dan shouted as he ran towards her.

"Danny!" Sam and Tucker called out to him to stop.

Desiree watched the blue eyed child rushing towards her as she looked him dead in the eyes and snapped her fingers granting the blonde haired cheerleaders wish.

And everyone in the front of the restaurant was then transported away from the burger joint and into a world full of green swirls and purple rocks.
