The Immortals, Tamora Pierce
Chapter 23: Ozorne Muhassin Tasikhe
"We'll just have to keep our eyes and ears out for now and be prepared for the worst," Jon said after moments of silence and thoughtful thinking.
"Thayet will be back there soon to keep things in check for a short time period," Jon informed them as he rubbed the side of his forehead, looking tired.
"Don't worry too much Jon, we'll keep a close eye on things," Numair assured him as Alanna came forward and patted Jon on the shoulder, agreeing with what Numair has to say and assuring that she will be taking time off from the company to return back with Thayet to that Magic World, Tortall, their country where they will keep an eye on things.
"We will manage things somehow, at least trust in our capabilities," Alanna assured, "Though I'm not too sure about Numair's own with his new interest," she teased, lightening the mood.
Numair paused as he turned his head at the female knight's direction, "I'm so glad to be of some kind of interest," he mentioned dryly, standing himself up straighter as he buttoned up his jacket.
It had indeed lightened up the mood somewhat, and at his expenses.
"Are you ever going to bring her to us?" Alanna called out after him as Numair started to head towards the door of Jonathan IV of Conté, minus the 'of' for his name in full in this World.
He waved off with him phone as he walked out of the office towards his own office where he sat down on his chair almost heavily and swerved it to face the view of the city as he looked at the message he had sent out and not gotten a reply yet, for days.
Numair toyed with the screen for a moment, but closed the screen again as he placed his phone facing down on his lap. He was being persistent, but she was also not replying him and it was really frustrating not knowing and yet somewhat knowing why as well.
Either way, at the moment it would seem that he would have to be satisfied knowing that Lindhall and Kaddar are watching out for her at least.
No sooner.
"Whatever happen to being patient," Lindhall mused as he sat across from Numair, playing with the glass of wine on the table, moving it about as the liquid in the glass swirled around.
"I am, I'm just here to visit a dear old friend," Numair chimed as he smiled to the waitress charmingly to place his order with her, all the while with Lindhall looking at his every move and expression.
"She is fine, at a meeting and a number of conference," Lindhall mentioned as he took a sip of his drink.
Numair spared him a glance but said nothing much as he took the glass that just got to their table with a slight tilt towards Lindhall, he took a sip of it with a slight grimace to taste.
Lindhall saw his expression and chuckled beneath his breath.
"There are refreshments back in the reception if there any further questions, I will be there to help in giving you with what I hope, is a satisfactory answer," Daine address the many attending her seminar with a smile as it called to an end.
"Ms Sarrasri," a handsome older looking gentleman dressed in the an expensive looking suit walked towards her with a smile on his lips that did not quite reach his eyes.
"Can I help you Sir?"
"Yes, I would love to get some expert opinion from you regarding to the care and breeding opportunity of certain rare species of birds that I've recently been keeping,"
Daine smiled, "Perhaps you could share more information on the type of species and I could perhaps be of some help,"
It was a while later over some light finger food and drinks, that they were interrupted much to her enquirer's displeasure, by her agent and assistant for a number of things. He did not seem to mind at least in appearance, but she smiled and quickly ducked out to other appointments and promises that she had made earlier.
"Mr Tasikhe, he has set up a lunch appointment with you to further discuss in details on the breeding of his birds,"
Daine had frown at the name, not too clear who is it, "Mr Ozorne Muhassin Tasikhe, he was at your seminar earlier, pulled you aside to speak about the care and breeding of a pair of rare birds that he has," her assistant cum manager mentioned to her to jog her memory a little.
There was some worry in her eyes as her mind raced to thinking about it, "how about lunch in the university if he is alright with it, earliest tomorrow?" she added, somewhat unsure of her own decision it seemed.
"I will call his assistant up to set up the meeting," to which she nodded her head in acknowledgement as she continued signing the few books that her assistant had placed in front of her from earlier.
Kaddar who was outside of her temporal office, overheard the conversation from when his uncle's name was mentioned in there. His eyes looked down to his phone, as his fingers scrolled through the list.
"They've came in contact," he spoke into the phone.
The person on the other end of the conversation kept quiet and looked somewhat uneasily at the male opposite to him.
"I'll call you back later," Lindhall said as he looked at Numair.
"He called on Daine," his voice came out soft and calm as he studied Numair's expression.
A look flashed across his face as Numair set his wine glass down on the table and crossed his long legs wrapped in a tailor-made navy coal suit. His elbow on the arms of his chair as he sat back in it whilst intertwining his fingers in silent thought.
There was a number of things that ran through each of their minds at the new information, but were not running straight in to the current update.
"More wine?" he enquired, raising a hand to get the attention of passing staff of the restaurant, but otherwise his eyes held a solemn seriousness of the current situation when things are somewhat rather precarious in plan.
