Author's Notes: Hey guys, I'm back with another chapter. Sorry for the short hiatus, as I had some personal things to attend. This chapter will be split in half. The first half will focus on Mark, while the second half will focus on the subplot between the Institute and the Enclave. Thanks for reading.
Mark Andrews, General of the Minutemen
Cambridge Police Station
October 31, 2277
1330 hours
When we entered the police station, we had begun to restock and rearm. Inside the building, we just were able to see how Sheriff Jones had set himself up. There were machine gun turrets everywhere and barricades, sandbags and more set up.
"You guys need something before we head out?" the sheriff asked us.
"Uh, just some more 10mm ammo for my pistol. Anybody else needs anything?" I asked John and Hollis as the Sheriff walked to a nearby ammo box and handed me my ammunition.
"Nope." John spoke up.
"Alright then, let's move out. The lab is around a half click away from here. If we take side streets and alleyways, we should be OK." he told us as we began to leave the police station.
Mark Andrews, General of the Minutemen
Cambridge Polymer Labs
October 31, 2277
1345 hours
When we arrived at the Cambridge Polymer Labs, I noticed that it was eerily quiet. The building was basically a bunker. It was made of cement and steel, with 10 foot walls. But when we arrived, Sheriff Jones then raised his hand for us to stop.
"Wait. Hold on. I hear something." Jones whispered to us. I scanned the area, but I saw nothing. "Alright then, I guess it was nothing, but still be on guard." We then entered the building.
When we entered, we saw bodies. They were bodies of what looked like ghouls and raiders, based on my previous encounters.
"What are those bodies doing here?" John asked.
"I don't know, but look at the ground beside them." he told us. On the ground beside the corpses, were 5.56 shell casings. "There aren't many people that have access to weapons what shoot 5.56 ammunition. The Gunners, due to their common use of military-style weapons, are the most likely candidates to do this." the Sheriff explained.
"This is great! More Gunners to kill!" Hollis said with joy as we continued out out of the lobby.
"Alright, now that we're out of the lobby, we need to head...Wait. I hear people up ahead." he again whispered to us. I then peeked around the corner of the hallway that we were in and looked around. There were four Gunners in the next hallway, all wearing combat armor and helmets. Two had Chinese assault rifles, while the other two had hunting rifles. The ones with the hunting rifles guarded a door, while the others patrolled nearby. "Okay, wait for the ones patrolling to pass, so we can take the others. But we want this to be quiet. So knives only. Mark and John are gonna take them out, while me and Hollis watch your flanks. Understood?" he told us.
"Understood." we responded.
"Good. Now let's go." he said as we got into position. Me and John then pulled out combat knives as we approached our targets. I then nodded to John as a signal to begin. Stealthily, we snuck up behind them and at once, we put our hands over their months and pulled them from behind and slit their throats.
"Jones, we're good. They're dead. But the other two are coming back. So get ready to ambush them." I told Jones and Hollis. We then got into position, as the other two gunners came back.
"Mike, where are the others?" one gunner asked the other one.
"I don't...hukkkk!" he started to say as Jones and Hollis hit the two gunners with their weapons, and then proceeded to slit their throats.
"Alright, all clear. Now let's continue on." Jones said as we gathered any supplies off of the dead Gunners and continued on through the facility.
After passing through several hallways and doors, and killing more Gunners along the way, Sheriff Jones stopped in front of a big steel door with a placard that said: Main Laboratory.
"Alright, here we are. Behind this door, is the main laboratory. This is where the transmitter should be. Ready?" he asked us.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I told as we opened the door.
As soon as we entered the lab, we came under immediate and heavy fire. There was around 10 gunners firing on us with rifles and handguns.
"We need to go for the transmitter. Mark, you go! We'll cover you!" Jones shouted at me, as I ran to get the transmitter. Dodging bullets, I was able to locate the transmitter and grab it, but before I could bring it back, I had to take out the Gunners in the lab. Pulling out my N99 pistol, I charged four gunners, firing on Jones and the rest of us. I ran at them, shooting one man with my pistol. The other gunners then stopped focusing on the others and focused on me instead.
Two gunners carrying 9mm pistols started shooting my way, so I shot them both in the chest twice. Then with only one left, I ran and tackled him. The gunner pulled out a knife to stab me, but I was able to use it against him and stab him in the chest.
"All clear!" Jones said from the other side of the lab.
"I got the transmitter! Now, let's go!" I shouted to Jones and the others.
Major Edward Johnson, Enclave Marine Corps
Outside of Relay Tower 1DL-109
November 1, 2277
0845 hours
Yesterday, I had received orders from Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery. Those orders were to proceed to relay tower 1DL-109 in sector F-15 and transmit that package using the pre-war equipment that way. At around 0800 hours, we set off from Fiddler Green to the relay tower with around 5 men. We set up around 150 yards on a hill above the tower.
I went over to one of the men and talked to him. "Private, what is the situation?" I asked him.
"Well, Major, we can see around 8 men setting up around the tower. They are dressed in leather and metal armor and carrying various types of ballistic firearms. Are you ready to move in?" he asked me.
"Yes, but remember no insignia and don't damage the tower! Now, move in!" I told the private as we all began to move in.
We were able to catch them veritably by surprise. This gave us an advantage as we attacked. My team dropped three of them automatically, which caused the others to panic and scramble for cover. Most of my team stayed in cover, trying to pin them down, while I took two men around the sides to flank them. When we got to an angle that gave us good positioning, we opened fire indiscriminately. When we stopped firing, everyone advanced on the tower.
I was the first one to get to the tower, where I saw a lone survivor. He had several burn marks where the plasma had hit him.
"Ughhh... help!...Please help me!" he said as he groaned in pain. I then approached the wounded man.
"I'm sorry that this happened." I said to him.
"Sorry? You're sorry! You killed my friends, people I loved!" he told me as he started to cough up blood.
"It's just business. Wrong place, wrong time. That's all." I told him.
"Who are you people? You those Institute bastards?" he tried to say.
"No, we're with the US government." I explained to him.
"US government...Uhh!" he started to say but before I could finish, I pulled out my plasma defender and shot him in the head, killing him. He was suffering, I tried to tell myself. But also, I think he had to start to maybe guess who we were, and I could not let that happen. But then, one of my men approached me.
"Major, what is it?" he asked me.
"There was a survivor. I executed him, as our directive was no witnesses. Now come on, we need to transmit the package." I responded.
When I arrived at the terminal, I pulled out the holotape that I had received with the documents that Kellogg gave me. I then began to use the terminal.
