One Month Later...
Scott woke to the sound of a knock on the door of his room in the motor inn, shaking his head he sat up and swung his legs off the bed, "Yeah?" He lazily called out with a yawn. His door opened and stepping inside was Andre Mitchell. The former police officer continued to wear his uniform along with the overcoat that he kept stored in the trunk of his cruiser, which he retrieved during the last run into town. "Oh hey, Andre," Scott nodded to his friend,
"Sorry for the wake-up call, but everyone else is already getting up and if you stick inside any longer, you know you're gonna get an earful from Lilly and Larry," Andre chuckled as he watched get up, grabbing his green flannel overshirt and tossing it on as well as grabbing his hammer.
"Yeah, I think I could do without that this morning," Scott grunted as he stretched before leading Andre outside into the Motor Inn's parking lot.
Looking around he saw Kenny already rooting around in the engine of the RV. For the last few days, Kenny had been saying that heading down to the coast was maybe the smart choice and since had been fixing the camper up. It was slow going, however, as trying to figure out the issues were a bit beyond the man's expertise and once they were figured out, he had to scavenge for the parts downtown.
Just to his left Katjaa and Duck came walking out from the inside of the RV, the blonde mother gave a friendly wave to Scott and Andre before pulling out the awning and setting it up to block out the sun during the day. Clementine came running over, she and Duck instantly began a game of tag, running around the lot. "Morning guys," Lee called over as he too left his room,
Scott gave him a wave and looked towards the entrance of the motor inn, seeing a patchy, but secure along the front. Dumpsters full of trash and wooden scraps blocked the two entrances of their safe zone, On one end, Larry continued to fortify the building, hammering in nails and boards using a stone and on the other end Carley and Doug ran the barbed wire along the top of the fence attaching it to metal support beams that they had put up throughout the wall.
It wasn't very surprising to Scott that the duo was already out and working together, it wasn't a secret to everyone here that Doug and Carley had started to become an item over the last month. While Larry had nothing fair to about them, as expected, the others felt a bit of hope seeing a relationship blossoming in all this insanity. Scott was just glad that the pair's spirits were high and it often rubbed off on the others during the day.
"Lilly wanted to see you in her room," Andre said to Scott while turning and heading towards Larry, "Wouldn't keep her waiting, if I was you,"
"Right," Scott muttered back heading a few doors down and knocking on the door to Lilly's room,
"Come in," Lilly immediately said causing Scott to let himself in, "Good, you're up, we've got shit to do today,"
"We do? Andre already ran gun training the other day," Scott replied with a raised brow,
"Which is good because everyone now understands the basics, so they'll be prepared for whenever we got past our walls," Lilly nodded while heading over to her dresser, picking the hunting rifle up that rested on the top, "And that's what we're doing today,"
"We're doing a run down to the pharmacy again?" Scott asked back,
"Not downtown, we're heading up to my old airbase," Lilly said while kneeling down and grabbing her backpack stored just under her bed,
"Uh, can I ask what for?" Scott asked with a scratch of his head,
"First reason, is if we're lucky, maybe the base is still active and maybe they've got things under control," Lilly retorted as she stood back up, "But second, and the more likely of the two, it's overrun with walkers but hopefully still full of supplies. I doubt we'll find many guns there, but the base had months of food on hand in the commissary. We go in, fill our packs and bags with as much as we can carry, and bring it all back here."
"Hell, if that's true, it's definitely worth the risk," Scott replied with a nod of agreement,
"Exactly, we have the medicine thanks to the pharmacy, and we've been finding our fair share of ammo but the food is too low, and it's only going to get harder the longer this is going on, so we need to do this," Lilly explained,
"Alright, so, it's just you and me going?" Scott asked with an uncertain look,
"Of course not," Lilly scoffed, "I think four of us should go, you and Andre have been heading up the gun training so I'll leave the call to you, but remember we're leaving our home at a disadvantage with every person we take with us, so make sure you don't screw everyone we leave back here, got it?"
Scott let out a short exhale and nodded, "Yeah, got it," The fact that Lilly was leaving this call to him wasn't a shock in the slightest. In this last month, Lilly had scarcely made any friends, and her constant defense of her father's actions of berating everyone hadn't helped. Clearly she was hoping he could cash in on his friendships to convince two more people of this mission as well as risking their lives over it.
