Chapter 16

Barbara Gordon/Ex-Batgirl

My next mission came soon after. This time, Batman wasn't there, though. Dick was.

His appearance was less scary, as he seemed nervous to see me. But I was nervous, too.

"Hi… Batgirl," He mumbled, "I just, thought we were friends." He was obviously hurt by my betrayal. He looked down, refusing to make eye contact.

I ran toward the item Master had told me to steal, trying to block out his sad mumbles. He simply ran in front of me.

"I can't let you steal anything, Batgirl," He said, much more stern, "I said I'd take care of you for Dad. He's busy, you know." At the thought of what he was busy with, I felt a wave of guilt. Jason was still out there, waiting to be a victim.

I turned away, trying to run around him. He sighed at my attempts, "You're a criminal, I can't let you commit these crimes."

Seeing I had no other choice, I started punching him to get through. He tried to punch back, but as I had hoped, I was winning. I kicked him to the ground, keeping him down just long enough to grab the item and get out of there.

When I returned home, I handed the item to Master.

"Good girl," He praised.

"I'm not a good girl." I replied, heading straight for my room. I sat on my bed, wondering and worrying.
