SolSparda369: yeah.
Vegas was a sight to behold with all it's flashing lights on. They passed the Monte Carlo and the MGM. They passed pyramids, a pirate ship, and the Statue of Liberty, which was a pretty small replica. Drake wanted to head into one of the casinos and do some gambling to help pay off his father's debt and maybe get lady off his back about it but Annabeth pulled him away, saying he was not old enough and shouldn't get into that kind of thing in Vegas.
They soon ended up in front of a large hotel and Drake frowned as he said the name aloud. "The Lotus Hotel and Casino huh?"
The entrance was a huge neon flower, the petals lighting up and blinking. What was suspicious to the son of Dante and Artemis was that no one was going in or out, but the glittering chrome doors were open, spilling out air-conditioning that smelled like flowers. It was weird, a city like Vegas and not one person was going in or out of this building when they were going into thousands of the other hotels and casinos in Vegas.
The doorman smiled at them. "Hey, kids. You look tired. You want to come in and sit down?"
The group looked at one another, Drake was way more tense and alert at this since they had been fooled once before with Medusa. Plus why would a doorman allow children to just come in for free like that? "It can't hurt to rest, right?" percy asked.
"That's what your stomachs thought when we thought Medusa was a normal woman." Drake pointed out with a look.
Percy winced. "Yeah...but this is a casino, I'm pretty sure there will be no surprise for us here except the fun of a hotel."
"I think your mind is warped." Was all Drake replied with.
"Look." Annabeth stepped forward, knowing Drake was more on alert after what happened with Medusa, it made him wary of entering places for free it seems. Though, Annabeth and Percy blamed their stomachs and noses for entering Medusa's home. "We have six days left until the Solstice, plenty of time to at least relax for a night and then we can continue the quest the next morning."
Drake looked at her then at Percy before he sighed and groaned loudly as he fought with himself on what to do. A part of him just wanted to move on, every instinct inside of him was telling him to get away from this building, to just go find the Bolt and get this over with, yet another part as telling him not to leave the others and he knew they wouldn't leave as they wanted to rest.
"Fine, but if this turns out to be another trap or anything like that...don't say i didn't warn you because I am now." Drake said.
"Come on, it's a hotel, what's the worst that can happen there?" Percy asked, trying to lighten up Drake's mood.
Drake glared at him. "And you just jinxed it." He sighed and shook his head. "Let's just go before I change my mind."
The others nodded as they went inside the hotel. However, as soon as they entered, they gaped at what they saw before them.
The whole lobby was a giant game room. There was an indoor waterslide snaking around the glass elevator, which went straight up at least forty floors. There was a climbing wall on the side of one building, and an indoor bungee-jumping bridge. There were virtual-reality suits with working laser guns. And hundreds of video games, each one the size of a widescreen TV.
"Hey!" a bellhop said. He wore a white-and-yellow Hawaiian shirt with lotus designs, shorts, and flip-flops. "Welcome to the Lotus Casino. Here's your room key."
Percy stammered, "Um, but..."
"No, no," he said, laughing. "The bill's taken care of. No extra charges, no tips. Just go on up to the top floor, loom 4001. If you need anything, like extra bubbles for the hot tub, or skeet targets for the shooting range, or whatever, just call the front desk. Here are your LotusCash cards. They work in the restaurants and on all the games and rides."
He handed them each a green plastic credit card.
'We didn't even ask for a room.' Drake thought as he narrowed his eyes. Being hunted by demons over the years from a young age had made Drake suspicious of anything not normal and allowing four children into a very expensive looking hotel, allowing them a room, and onto anything for free just screamed suspicious. Yet something in the back of his mind tried convincing him to go with it, to have fun, but he refused to listen to it.
They took the elevator upstairs and checked out their room. It was a suite with three separate bedrooms and a bar stocked with candy, sodas, and chips. A hotline to room service. Fluffy towels and water beds with feather pillows. A big-screen television with satellite and high-speed Internet. The balcony had its own hot tub, and sure enough, there was a skeet-shooting machine and a shotgun, so you could launch clay pigeons right out over the Las Vegas skyline and plug them with your gun.
"Oh, goodness," Annabeth said. "This place is ..."
"Sweet," Grover said. "Absolutely sweet."
Drake noticed Percy tossing Ares' backpack into the trash and frowned. as much as he did not like Ares, the God of War wouldn't have given them a bag filled with supplies for no reason. Something was off here, and Drake did not like it. This was just like with Medusa except this time all three of his friends were falling to temptation.
'Better keep an eye out, i don't like this.' Drake thought, ignoring that small, selfish voice that was saying to leave them, to go find the bolt and return it to Zeus by himself and prove himself worthy to the gods and his mother, to show he can do anything by himself, that he did not need anyone's aid in this, he shook his head to get rid of that voice. He will never leave his friends...even if their childish temptations got the better of them.
"Take a load off, Drake!" Annabeth shouted from the bathroom where he heard the shower going, speculating she was taking a shower.
"No thanks." Drake muttered. "i'm going for a walk."
He left the room, keeping his sword and guns with him just in case. He walked down the hallway, eyes looking around with suspicion. He reached the lobby room where all the games and other stuff where when somebody bumped into him, making him grunt and stumble back as the other person fell to the floor.
"Ow." He heard and looked to see a young boy on the floor, shaking his head. "Sorry."
"It's okay." Drake said and helped the boy up, the kid must've been about ten years old. He had black hair, and olive skin along with dark brown eyes. "What's your name, kid?"
"Nico. Nico Di Angelo."
Drake raised an eyebrow at that last name. Last person he heard about with Angelo in the name was Nelo Angelo, who was Vergil but twisted into Mundus' puppet. "Drake Redgrave."
Nico smiled up at him. "Nice to meet you. Hey, you want to see my Mythomagic cards?"
"What?" Drake frowned. Nico led him over to a free table and pulled out a deck of cards, placing them on the table.
"It's card game, though I kind of just like the little figurines that come with it." Nico said, taking out a figurine. "They are based on Greek Mythology."
"I see." Drake said with a little more interest as he picked up a card and looked it over, eyes narrowing in confusion when he saw the date on them said they were made in 1940. Weird. "What's your favourite?"
"Hades!" Nico grinned handing over a card that had a picture of what must be Hades. "Though I don't have the figurine yet." "Want to play?"
"Sure."
"NICO DI ANGELO!" They heard a girl's voice yell and looked to see a girl coming their way with her eyes on Nico, who paled and Drake was sure he saw the boy sweating a little.
The girl marching over towards them was a few years older than Nico. She had long black hair, olive skin, and black eyes. She was wearing clothing that really did not look like they belonged in this time period, they looked like clothes from the 1920s or the 1940s.
"Nico, I have been looking all over for you! Where have you-" The girl paused when she saw Drake and he raised an eyebrow when he saw her blushing and looking away from him shyly. "Oh, H-Hello there. I'm Bianca Di Angelo, N-Nico's older sister."
"Drake Redgrave." Drake greeted, shaking her head, He couldn't help but find her stuttering cute.
"I'm sorry if my brother bothered you." She began to say.
"No it's fine, he was actually showing me his cards." Drake said.
Bianca looked at her little brother sternly. "Nico, not everyone is obsessed with that game like you are." She looked back at Drake. "Thanks for looking after him there but we need to get going."
"Can we go down the slides?!" Nico asked excitedly. His excitement made the two older kids chuckle. Nico got out of his stool and ran off for the slide, waving to Drake. "Bye Drake!"
Bianca turned to say goodbye to Drake when she bumped into Drake's chest since the boy had stood up and she had bumped into his chest, and felt just how warm it was which made a blush come onto her face.
"S-Sorry." She stuttered as she backed up a little.
Drake chuckled. "It's fine. You better go after him before he does something." Bianca smiled and nodded, going after her brother but not before waving at him with a blush on her cheeks before she ran off. "Odd pair, hope I see them again."
Drake walked down a hallway, looking for the others when he noticed the casino room and men gambling. He looked down, considering it before grinning. "Screw it, Dad will be happy if I win lots of money."
Besides, he knew the gamblers will take enjoyment in trying to embarrass a child so he'll use that to his advantage to get into a game of gambling so he walked into the casino area.
An hour later he walked away with a large smirk on his face, a briefcase in hand which was filled with money. He had the Devil's luck. He stopped when he suddenly heard a voice in his head, a woman's voice. "Drake, do not be fooled by this place any longer. You must get out! Remember the quest!"
'SHIT!' Drake yelled in his mind and slapped his forehead, cursing himself for this. "Dammit I think about how this place is off and it gets to me. Sick bastards here." He ran off looking for the others when he bumped into Percy who had a panicked look on his face. "Figure it out too?"
"Yeah." Percy nodded before looking at him. "Don't you dare say it-"
"Jackpot!" Drake grinned.
Percy frowned. I thought you would've-"
"No time!" Drake said, grabbing Percy and both ran into the lobby room. "You find Annabeth, I'll find Grover."
Percy nodded and the two split up. Drake found Grover still playing Virtual Deer Hunter.
"Grover!" Drake shouted.
He said, "Die, human! Die, silly polluting nasty person!"
"Grover!"
He turned the plastic gun on him and started clicking, as if Drake were just another image from the screen. Drake rolled his eyes and slapped Grover on the back of the head then did the same a few times across the face. "Ow! Drake, what did you-"
"This place is a trap!" Drake said and Grover's eyes widened as it hit him and he got some sense back before they ran off looking for the other two, eventually finding Percy and Annabeth, Percy had a red cheek and small scratch marks. "What the hell happened to you?"
"Someone was too into her game and ended up slapping me." Percy said, looking at a blushing Annabeth with annoyance.
"Sorry." She said.
"Vicious, save it for the bedroom." Drake joked and got a hard slap from Annabeth. "Deserved that. Now can we get the hell out of here before I decide to shoot up the place?"
they nodded and bolted for the entrance, running past the doorman who was trying to tempt them again but they just ran straight out the doors and took deep breaths now that they were outside.
Drake saw a newspaper and grabbed it to look at the date and his eyes widened as the others looked over his shoulder to see the date and their eyes widened as well.
June twentieth.
They had been in the Lotus Casino for five days. They had only one day left until the summer solstice. One day to complete their quest.
Drake looked at them and had to say it. "I did tell you this place was off."
"Shut up Drake!" Percy, Annabeth, and Grover said with some embarrassment.
Drake whistled for a taxi and it stopped so they got inside. Annabeth spoke to the driver. "Los Angeles, please."
The cabbie chewed his cigar and sized them up. "That's three hundred miles. For that, you gotta pay up front."
"You accept casino debit cards?" Annabeth asked.
He shrugged. "Some of 'em. Same as credit cards. I gotta swipe 'em through first."
Annabeth handed him her green LotusCash card.
He looked at it skeptically.
"Swipe it," Annabeth invited.
He did.
His meter machine started rattling. The lights flashed. Finally an infinity symbol came up next to the dollar sign.
The cigar fell out of the driver's mouth. He looked back at us, his eyes wide. "Where to in Los Angeles... uh, Your Highness?"
"The Santa Monica Pier." Annabeth sat up a little straighter. Drake could tell she liked the "Your Highness" thing. "Get us there fast, and you can keep the change."
The driver drove off.
"So what happened in there?" Percy asked.
"Well...I won 2.5 billion dollars." Drake said smugly and it grew at the gobsmacked looks on his friends faces, even the driver was shocked. "What? I have the Devil's Luck."
I hope you all loved this chapter, we are near the end of Lightning Thief I think. Drake met Nico and Bianca, the children of Hades, a lot earlier than they were introduced in The Titan's curse. I'm trying to figure out scenarios on Bianca living, and no she won't remain alive just to be added to Drake's pairing, it's just Silena, Thalia, and Zoe that he will be with.
