Hiding his impatience as he watched the HPD officer leave, Thompson waited until the officer stepped into the elevator and the elevator doors closed before he quickly entered the room, closing the door behind him. Turning back, he smiled as he looked at the sleeping man in the bed, pleased to see although Rodgers was now fully sedated, the only sound within the room was the soft beeps of the heart monitor that sat above the bed. Walking slowly across to the bed, he looked down at his killing partner's relaxed pale face before his eyes travelled to the central IV line that had been inserted just below Rodgers's collarbone before following the plastic tubing back up to the glass IV bottle that hung above the bed.
His smile morphed into a cold grin as an idea of just how to solve one of his problems and get away with murder solidified in his mind. Hurrying back to the door, he opened it just wide enough to check that both the corridor and the nurse's desk were empty. Satisfied that the nurses and doctors were pre-occupied in other rooms, he quickly closed the door again before he hurried back to the edge of the bed. Reaching for the IV line, he quickly disconnected it from the IV bottle disconnecting it from the IV bottle. Quickly thumbing the rate wheel to full flow, he drew a deep breath before he brought the tubing to his mouth and blew steadily into the tubing, forcing the large lung full of air into Rodgers's subclavian vein.
Glancing up at the heart monitor as the green blip began to race across the screen and the pattern began to change, he quickly reconnected the IV line before toggling the rate flow wheel wide open with his thumb, causing the tube to refill with fluid as the green blip on the heart machine suddenly spiked. He chuckled as he heard Rodgers gasp a heartbeat before the green blip jumped once more before falling flat and the machine's alarm began to shrill. Thumbing the rate control wheel again to slow the IV fluid flow down he glanced over his shoulder towards the closed door as he heard the sound of running feet approaching the room, before he quickly turned back to the bed and leaned over his victim and began to administer a half-hearted attempt of CPR.
Looking back over his shoulder as the nurse ran into the room, he told her breathlessly between doing chest compressions, "I was guarding the door when I thought I heard the alarm go off…", stepping back as the nurse reached the bed and took over the chest compressions as more medical staff ran into the room.
Pausing near the door, he stood and watched the frantic activity, forgotten by the medical staff as they desperately tried to save Rodgers's life. He patiently waited until he heard the doctor call Time of Death before he stepped back outside into the corridor, softly closing the door behind him.
Calmly straightening his coat sleeves and tie before running his hand through his hair, smoothing it down as he headed towards the elevator which would take him down to the Recovery Rooms where he would break the news to McGarrett that Thompson had escaped justice again by dying of a heart attack. He smiled again as the elevator door slid open and he stepped inside, now all he had to do was continue to play the perfect agent and wait for a chance to get rid of the last loose end.

Any more discussion with McGarrett about the possible difficulties facing Danny in his recovery was quickly forgotten by Bergman as the door to Danny's ICU room opened and Kono and Chin stepped inside.
"How's da kaikaina?" Kono asked as he quickly crossed the room and gently placed his hand on Danny's sheet covered leg.
"He's a fighter." Steve answered, glancing across at Bergman.
The Coroner/ Official Physician to the Five –O detectives nodded his agreement. "He's critical but he isn't giving up without a fight."
"What have we got, gentleman?" Steve asked, changing the worrying subject as he turned towards the two exhausted looking detectives, a twinge of guilt tugging at his heart with the knowledge that Kono and Chin had to be running on just will power and adrenaline. The detectives had been on duty for almost thirty hours.
"Duke has the names of over twenty missing men, all who were seen in the company of Rodgers before they disappeared. He also has the descriptions of three more men whose names are unknown." Chin began.
"Oh God!" Steve murmured at the sheer number of missing men who were potential victims of the madman who had been able to move around the city undetected.
"Over twenty?" Doc gasped in disbelief.
Chin nodded as he added softly, "Over twenty that we know of, there still could be more. According to the coconut wireless, Rodgers has been roaming the street befriending homeless men for months. Many of the homeless are still reluctant to talk. They are scared the 'Messiah' will be back on the streets soon."
"We found a bottle of Flunitrazepam in Rodgers shack. Che believes that he might have used it to drug his victims to make them easier to control." Kono began his report as he pulled out his notes and double checked the name of the drug before he looked at Bergman, "Che said you might need to check Danny's blood."
Doc nodded, "We did. I haven't had a chance to see the results yet."
"Flunitrazepam?' Steve asked, looking towards Bergman.
"Better known as Rohypnol, Steve, normally prescribed for sleep disturbances but fast becoming the newest Mickey Finn drug of choice. It can quickly render the victim unconscious and leave them with no memory of what happens to them while they are under its influence. If I was Rodgers and didn't want my victims to fight me while I hung them by their wrists, it's the drug I would use. "
"So, he sedated them to stop them fighting?" Steve mused.
Kono nodded as he continued. "Che also found lots of fingerprints around the house. We are running them now to see if we can get any hits. Hopefully, it might match up with some of the men who are missing."
"You might need to check Danny's blood for insulin as well Doc." Chin interrupted. "Harris mentioned that his cousin had made him obtain several vials of insulin just before Danny disappeared. We pulled Adrian Lemour- Simons's so-called business partner- in for questioning, he admitted that they snatched Danny from the back of the house when we went to arrest Simons. His lawyer tipped him off that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Simons decided that if he kidnapped a Five-O detective that he would be sending a warning to any witnesses who were thinking about testifying to keep their mouths shut."
McGarrett frowned, "I don't understand- where does the insulin come in?"
"Simons also wanted to know what evidence we had against him." Chin sighed, "He had read somewhere that he could use insulin to cause confusion in a victim, combine that with sleep deprivation, beatings and emotional abuse…"
"He thought he could brainwash someone." Doc finished Chin's sentence, the horror he felt readable in his eyes.
Chin nodded as he glanced towards the young detective in the bed before he looked back at his boss, his voice cracking as he forced himself to continue, "Lemour said Danny was able to resist Simon's attempts until Simons broke his spirit."
"How?" Steve swallowed, uncertain if he really wanted to know the horror his young friend had endured.
"He told Danny that Danny had managed to pull his gun when he was grabbed and had shot and killed you when you had come around the corner of the house after hearing the scuffle."
"Ohh God!" Steve whispered in horror, glancing at Danny as Chin added, "Lemour said Danny believed him."
"Lemour told us the Danny just seemed to have lost all his will, not eating or even reacting to anything they did to him." Chin continued softly, knowing the boss would want to know the full details, no matter how painful the details were to hear.
"Then how did he manage to escape?" Doc frowned.
Chin allowed a small smile of pride tug at his lips as he glanced down at his young unconscious friend, "He played possum, Doc, he waited until they believed that Simons had really broken him and one morning when Lemour entered the room they were holding him, he made his move-"
"And escaped one monster only to fall into the hands of another." Doc breathed as the door opened and Thompson stepped inside.
Chin nodded.
"And sadly, the only justice that either monster will face is going to be at the hands of the devil." Thompson announced as he looked at motionless figure in the bed before he returned his attention back to the other four other men in the room and sighed, "Rodgers just died in the ICU after he went into cardiac arrest."

AN - LOL my method of murder is actually possible and was inspired after a police officer in one of the groups I belong to spoke about some of the most unusual murders that the US police have encountered. I just couldn't resist using it and after doing some research and lots of fun discussions in several trauma and medical groups and law groups to find out just how it would be possible - Well it seems that Agent Thompson also knew how to do it.
