Just before I started writing this, I kept thinking about how this is all just a bunch of ones and zeros in a computer somewhere, and that if that computer breaks, then this whole thing will be lost. But, whatever. It'll be fine! At least their not ones and zeros in my brain! So yeah, I can slightly do computers. Enjoy!
Lightpaw woke up to the sound of Crowmia meowing to some of the warriors. The sun hadn't risen yet, and the sky was still speckled with a few fading stars. Lightpaw stretched her wings open, feeling warm air press against them.
She padded outside, seeing Poppyheart and Echoblossom sitting quietly while Crowmia assigned the patrols to the rest of the warriors.
"Clouddrop, Poppyheart, Echoblossom and Lionwhisker can head out to the SkyClan border, Slipstream, Flamewisp and Slashfur can go to RiverClan, and Mapleheart and Blazeglow can go to Sunningrocks to hunt." Crowmia mewed, flicking her tail at the different cats, then watching them make their way out of camp.
Lightpaw went to sit next to her until she had finished organizing the patrols, then she looked up at the black and grey she-cat.
"What are we going to do today?" Lightpaw asked, excitement prickling down her spine.
"We're going to go down to the Training Hollow to teach you and Brokenpaw some battle moves." Crowmia replied as yet another cat walked past and asked about the patrols. Being the deputy's apprentice was hard.
Just as Lightpaw was about to ask something else, Brokenpaw pushed out of the apprentices' den. Lightpaw imagined how hard it must be for him, having the Clan leader as his mentor. She pushed her thoughts to the back of her head as Sparkstar stepped out into the clearing, scanning it to see where Brokenpaw was.
When her gaze landed on the white tabby tom, she walked over, nodding to Crowmia as a greeting.
"How's it going with being a mentor?" she asked the she-cat, glancing down at Lightpaw for a moment.
"It's tougher than last time," Crowmia answered "When I wasn't the deputy yet. I can't imagine how hard it must've been for you, becoming leader at the same time as having an apprentice."
Sparkstar only nodded. When she had first become leader, she was still mentor to Flamewisp, and had struggled immensely with the grief of the previous leader, her new responsibilities, and still being a mentor at the same time.
The four cats padded off together, pushing through the gorse tunnel. On the other side, the cats made their way through the undergrowth, stopping every now and again to check the scents. At one point, Brokenpaw had caught a strange scent, but the deputy and leader had quickly dismissed it, claiming it was nothing to worry about.
When Lightpaw smelled it though, she wasn't so sure. It smelled like stars and night, with a hint of something that smelled like smoke.
The group kept walking, and finally reached the training hollow. The apprentices dropped into it, with the older cats following more slowly, still chatting about a fox that had passed through a quarter moon ago. They finally stopped and sat down.
"Today we're going to learn a basic defense move, one that will hopefully take an attacker by surprise," Sparkstar meowed "Lets say you've been pinned, and you're struggling to get out. All you have to do is go limp," she demonstrated, Crowmia planting herself firmly on top of her.
"Now, you have to make sure that your muscles are completely relaxed, so that you take your opponent by surprise," Sparkstar meowed, still lying in defeat underneath Crowmia "Then you have to jump up, as quickly as possible. This should fling your attacker off, giving you a break to run." The leader demonstrated, jumping up so hard and fast that Crowmia was knocked clean off her paws.
Sparkstar twitched her tail a bit as Crowmia righted herself, them mewed "Now try it on each other."
Brokenpaw started, with Lightpaw on tom of him. She yowled triumphantly as he went limp in defeat, then was thrown off him by his huge, powerful kick.
"Wow!" breathed Lightpaw, already amazed by her brother's skill.
"That was pretty good, for a first try," Crowmia mewed "Next time you should try to do it even faster, so that no one will see it coming."
Brokenpaw nodded, pride shining in his blue eyes. Then the two apprentices swapped places, Lightpaw squished underneath Brokenpaw. Lightpaw kept so still that she felt almost like a rock. She positioned her paws underneath her, letting her muscles relax as Brokenpaw squished her further down. Then, out of nowhere, she flung herself up, so hard that Brokenpaw was sent flying out of the hollow.
"Sorry!" she called to Brokenpaw as he slithered back down.
"It's OK," he mewed "That was awesome! How did you even do that?"
"I don't know." Lightpaw replied, a strange sensation pricking in her paws as her mentor and the leader finally started speaking.
"That is the best I've ever seen anyone do on their first try," Sparkstar mewed "You could even pass for a new warrior, at this rate!"
Lightpaw looked at her, wide-eyed. "Really!?" she mewed, so excited she could barely breathe.
"Yes, really!" Crowmia mewed, with Sparkstar's eyes echoing the response.
Lightpaw almost squealed in delight. She was finally good at fighting! After five and a half moons of all the other kits teasing her because she didn't like fighting. Then it hit her. She still didn't like fighting. It still didn't appeal to her, the fact that she was potentially hurting another cat.
Lightpaw sat back down, suddenly feeling a lot less proud of herself, but still proud nonetheless. She could still tell the other apprentices, and she could still brag to Marshkit. Marshkit and his mother, Lizardfang, had never really liked Lightpaw, or seen any potential in her, because she couldn't fight, and now, she could finally prove them wrong.
Huh, this chapter was pretty long. Usually when I write things the chapters aren't even half as long, so I think I'm doing good. Anyways, keep those OC's coming! I really enjoy having the ability to play around with my characters because of the OC's that have been submitted, and I really appreciate being able to make the readers a part of this.
Thanks again to everyone for reading this. I have more than ten reviews that weren't from me, and that's a pretty big goal for me, so yeah! Thanks a lot!
Lastly, please keep leaving suggestions on what I could do for this fanfic, because I'm absolutely *sarcasm* AMAZING *sarcasm* at filling in the gaps between big things.
Well, that's all from me!
