Fear Of The Unknown
(Icy's Perspective)
I am afraid.
My Luna is sad… and I think she is contemplating revenge. I sense vindictiveness with this perpetual child… Alec.
I also sensed sadness in him, the first time I saw him. He and his sister were kind to us though…
I continued to play with the grass, listening to their conversation.
Ah… Alec and Jane were surrendered by their parents for execution… but a young couple tried to save them, only to die by Aro's hand as well.
What?! My Luna and Victor remind the twins of that couple? No… they… died. They were slaughtered!
It was so hard to remain emotionless, impossible, in a way, since Luna can hear me telepathically.
"Please don't tell anyone I was here.", Alec asked of Luna. "The only other one who knew I was coming is Jane."
"It'll be difficult, with Edward's ability, but he has kept secrets for me in the past."
"Edward…", he hissed. "How can you stand to be around them… the Cullens?"
Luna looked at him. "If it wasn't for Carlisle, I wouldn't have learned of the laws set in place by your masters. I am grateful he was there when I came out of the transformation."
"Very well… until next time, Luna."
And with that, Alec left the area. Luna and I stayed silent and motionless for a short time.
"Are you considering what he suggested?", I asked.
"I'm only thinking of it.", she replied. "I'm not going to lie… but I have to weigh the pros and cons."
Luna…
"We should probably get back to the house, Icy."
It was then I realized I was getting sleepy. All this drama was tiring. "Yes.", I said. "It has been a long day."
"I won't strap you to my back this time. I'll carry you and walk slow, so go ahead and drift off if you like."
"Thanks, Luna."
She kept her word, and I did fall asleep…
Luna was calmer now, I could sense it. That was what frightened me… could she become like them? Could Luna become a monster… red eyes full of such hate and thirst?
It was not a pleasant sleep. I had a nightmare… those red eyes, just like those of The Volturi. Destruction… human blood spilled… a figure dashing around, slaughtering everyone mindlessly.
The shadowy figure finally stopped… it was my Luna.
My worst fear.
Luna with bright, glowing crimson eyes. She was wild, a demon in a Lolita dress, like what she used to wear before Satsuki's death.
My Luna was a monster.
The shock jolted me awake, and we were back at the house.
"You could have kept sleeping, Icy."
I looked up to see Luna, her irises a darkened gold, almost black, just like before. She was still my Luna… a vampire, yes, but she still had her humanity.
"Are you feeling better?", asked Victor, who was approaching us.
"Yeah, lover.", she answered. "But this little dude is wiped out."
"Why don't I take him to his room?"
Victor held his arms out, and Luna handed me over. I noticed Edward, glaring at us as the transfer took place. He knew…
There was no way to keep Edward Cullen from knowing about our encounter with Alec. I wasn't sure how Luna was going to handle it.
I must have fallen asleep in Victor's arms; there were no dreams this time, and I awoke in my room.
I didn't know what Luna had told Edward, she couldn't have lied or kept it secret… only Bella could block his gift, a necromancer is not a shield.
"Hey, you're awake."
I turned to find Edward standing in the room.
"Don't worry, Luna and Victor went out for a while. I think she needs to hunt after what went on yesterday."
"It's after midnight?", I asked, noticing the darkness through the window.
Edward nodded. "Luna admitted to speaking to Alec too. Luckily, you block Alice from seeing that vision."
"I'm scared for her, Edward.", I cried softly. "What if she goes after them? What if…"
I began seeing images from that nightmare… Luna, a vengeful monster; out for revenge on all humans for the actions of only a few.
"It was only a bad dream, Icy.", he tried to assure me. "My family know several traditional vampires, they're nothing like that. Plus, Victor has the red eyes, and has he gone on a rampage since joining you and Luna?"
"No", I answered. "Alec scares me though. It was as if he was trying to talk Luna into going after those people."
"Satsuki's guardians are due for some form of retribution, no doubt about that.", Edward replied. "Your master has the sense that if she chooses to eliminate them, she will do it and not expose our mind's existence."
"Do you think Alec and Jane are trying to trap her and Victor?"
Edward shook his head. "I don't think so, but he was too far away for me to read his thoughts."
"At least that's one good thing."
The door opened. Rosalie entered gracefully, as always.
"So the little sweetie is awake!", she exclaimed.
"Rose, why aren't you with Emmett?", asked Edward, almost sarcastically.
"For the same reason you're not with Bella tonight… it isn't appropriate with everything happening."
I was on the fence with whether I was happy or sad that Rosalie couldn't hear me. I wanted so much to ask if Luna and Victor had returned yet.
"It's fine, Icy.", Edward said to me. "They will be back shortly."
I began to recall a time right after I joined Luna. It was one of the many occasions we hid out in the Watts house, before we knew it was her childhood home.
I remember when Carlisle explained the laws to me… she had stated. This vegetarian lifestyle was the best choice for me. I looked at my reflection in his pocket watch. My eyes were bright red, all newborns awaken with the brightest crimson irises. I swore then and there, I would not create what is now called an urban legend; I would never become the blood thirsty demon that humans feared.
It really would be scary if you did it now., I replied, referring to her frilly Lolita dress that belonged in Wonderland.
Thinking of that only reminded me of my nightmare…
Luna stopped dressing like that a year ago. She borrowed clothing from donation bins and altered them to fit. My Luna went from Victorian doll to apocalyptic anarchist. While she matched with Victor a bit more, I just felt like… this wasn't her!
I couldn't tell her to go back to her old look, who am I to do that?
And what if she does choose to feed from humans? That would literally make her the demon she didn't want to become back in 1908.
In the end I'm just a teddy bear, and who knows who I was before that… no, I couldn't tell my Luna what to do in her immortal life. Like Edward said, Victor consumes human blood, and he is not a crazed animal. I don't know what to think…
I drifted off yet again, hoping Luna and Victor would return soon, and that she would ignore Alec's words.
Us Against The World.
A/N: I will return to writing from Luna's perspective in the next chapter. I did experience a bit of writers block when it came to this part. Also, I had been working on another side project, but I will complete this fanfic, no matter how long it takes!
Chapter title comes from the song by Siouxsie And The Banshees.
