I am drawing inspiration heavily from the Originals and how the Witches used magic without spells... and How even Kol did that. The scene where the Hallow's people were butchered gave me lots of ideas of the powers of enchatned objects big or small. Same with Cami!

This chapter starts on the episode 162 Candles

Dear Diary,

I never thought you'd end up a large fixture in my life but here you are, November first, the start of our third month at school and I haven't burned you away. I know this is only my third update but I have been busy... I'll explain.

So much has happened... so, so, so much.

Like I predicted at the Salvatore mansion, Sheila passed away. While it was cool that my powers were evolving enough to sense death of people I am close to, the pain of losing Sheila was intense. As it turns out, the stress of the trip into the woods and Emily's magic was too great for her withered body. She passed away in her sleep. Elena says that Bonnie hadn't taken it well and tried to actually revive her with magic of all things, a dangerous and often fatal task, I can imagine since Sheila was basically her mom and dad that it hit her harder then my parent's death hit me. Despite this all my fellow witch and I have been keeping in contact with skype and she is still studying magic, with a rare passion that is honestly scary. I give Bonnie five years of solid uninterrupted training until she far surpasses even Emily. She knows about channeling elements from me and the uses of blood, herbs and even the basics of sacrificial magic and sigils. With that foundation she has gone past getting headaches and bloody noses whenever she strains herself, at least for most simple spells though I imagine for larger spells or continuous spells she would still get them. At my recommendation she is crafting basic potions almost daily while traveling with her dad, simple stuff like what I made for Jeremy to help his withdrawals and Stefan for his cravings. That along some random exercises from Lenore, my epic teacher, gave have been helping with her channeling. Stuff like setting fire to salt and resurrecting dead roses for spells. It seems to be helping her greatly, I wish she knew stuff like that sooner but it's clear that Grams wasn't the best teacher despite my love of her.

I have been following suit by the way and I can now bring back dead rose without fainting, so Lenore thinks my power is growing slightly. She it putting my magic at a tenth of Bonnie's current powers, and a fifth with my talisman, at least without using a larger source to draw from. I finally have a firm grip on sigils, a big part of sacrificial magic, and she thinks I can start channeling sacrifices from Stefan's kills in small doses... like rabbits and squirrels right now but harder stuff later. Before that though I need to enchant a dagger to help with my channeling and that is proving hard, I am going to have to bleed Emily's tomb first. Drawing power from the tomb isn't actually hard, it's basically just a massive version of my talisman. I have already managed to cast a few spells with it, nothing major but with it's power I am much stronger then even Bonnie is but the issue is that the spell is still regenerating just slower then it was before. The good part about this is that I can now use it to draw spells. Problem, I can't store it as my talisman isn't strong enough to hold large amounts of magic. I'd need a massive talisman for that, like Emily's old talisman... still I can use the tomb to create lesser objects like a dagger for sacrificing and other stuff. I have plans, like using grandma Beth's ring for a tracking spell. With the regenerating nature of the Tomb's magic, I should be able to generate a number of smaller enchanted objects.

Which leads me to the next bad part, the Council members have the watch. I guess Emily gave it to them, since Sheila had it last. Damon, as part of the council at this point, found out about it. He was pissed to hear about that... but he's the one giving them vervain so he can stick it... Ohhhh and Zack's dead, which is how he got part of the Council. I don't know the details, but I know it was Damon who killed him. I liked Zack, I did, but he was really arrogant and always confronting the much more powerful Damon for stuff so I am not surprised. I did a spell over his bones to honor him, Damon wasn't happy about that but he seems to like me so he didn't argue. The spell was barely as spell, I burnt sage over his body with some salt and a few prayers to send him into the after life safely. I felt something when I did that, an odd piece. I did the same thing, in private, with some of Sheila's hair I nicked from a hairbrush of hers. Bonnie didn't know that I did that, she was too into the normality of the funeral for that which I respected. The spell is small and I guess Ancestral witches use a bigger version on witches to make them part of the Ancestral Plane. My blessing won't do that but it is supposed to help them to pass onwards. I hope it helped... Sheila especially. The idea of her being trapped in the Otherside is debilitatingly awful.

I should mention that I am looking into a way to stem the signal of the watch, but I am still not sure how to. I think the answer lies in herbal magic though, like if I could muddy the signal it is tracking it might go in a different direction. That bitch Emily was impressive no matter how much I'd like to deck her, again.

Elena has been annoying lately, big into finding out about our bio mom. She was dragging Jenna into it... oh, real quick Jenna dated that moron Fell guy for a hot minute, but I stopped that real quick. I wasn't in the mood for her to dive into his crap so I told her the truth about the supernatural, using it and his status on the Council to knock her back to her senses. She doesn't know all the details, but she was amazed and horrified and supportive. At first she didn't tell Elena that she knew though, pissed that Elena was hiding it from her but gave in after I talked to her about it. Still, she was looking into our Bio mom since that was all we had on that front. I didn't want to meet said mom, Elena did, but Jenna was a stickler for the idea of us knowing so she was digging hard. Oh and she was also getting into combat stuff, I got her taking some self defense classes with Vicki and I. In private and Jer was joining since it was stupid to think we could keep him out of it. I saw what happened to Vicki, who knows what a hostage situation with Jenna and Jeremy looked like for me? Fuck that!

Everyone was on Vervain! Only Elena wasn't learning self defense... to the surprise of no one. I think she gets off of her weak, humanness. It's weird. She is barely even taking Vervain for crying outloud! Just wearing it not ingesting it like she should. I am immune to compulsion and I'm still on Vervain if only to be hard to drink! But I digress.

Stefan was teaching Vicki self defense, and Damon was teaching her how to feed, then she would then teach me hand to hand, then I would teach the others. Trickledown! She was actually not bad at feeding, there was some near slip ups but usually only with Stefan around. She managed to come back to school and was doing way better, but was still living with the Salvatores, who agreed to pretend to be her sponsors with Stefan's issues with drug abuse becoming public news. People praised them like the hypocrites they were.

Was there anything else...

Oh yeah, we were looking for the grimoire. It was hard since none of us has any clue but I guess Damon was looking in old Journals and Stefan was helping. I had my suspicions about that union, Stefan and Damon did not get along so the helping felt pretty fake...I had wanted to use Sheila's Hair for a spell to track the Grimoire, or maybe the ash from the destruction of the Talisman, but the dust as long gone... and the grimoire has been lost for so long that I can't use blood magic to track it. Pity. Still, after learning more magic from Lenore, I decided to cast a sacrificial tracking spell to find it. I have to kill and gut a bird, gross but worth it if we find it.

Here's to hoping!

Love, forever, your favorite Traveler Witch,

Samantha Jean Gilbert!

"Sanflaman!" The simple word burned the page away into ash, ash that Samantha added to her new plant lavender, mixing it softly into the soil. "I hope you like this." Satisfied, the young witch made her way downstairs, seeing her aunt Jenna waking a large dummy. "Your not wallowing at all, are you?" She saw her sister, standing with an amused but oddly disapproving look as their aunt attempted to kick the dummies ass.

"Yeah. Well_" Bam, she smacked the dummy with a harsh left hook. " Logan's a jerk, and he cheated on my dumb ass for a while. You reminded me of that and made me realize the protecting my clearly magical family from an antimagical Council comes first. I mean your a witch, Elena's dating a vampire and Jeremy might be a goblin."

"I can hear you! Wanna keep it down over there?" They all turned to a very determined Jeremy scribbling over his paper, eyes focused with a rare degree of attention.

"Why? What are you doing?" This was Jenna, who stopped long enough to move over, giving Samantha a look at her yoga pants and white t-shit apparel, with her hair in a loose pony tail. She had these cute gloves on her fists, making her look oh so dangerous.

"Homework."

Elena, in her typical tactless and kind of rude fashion, didn't see Samantha's stink eye. "Since when do you do homework? "

"I gotta finish this. I am finally caught up, or I will be if I finish this."

Pride filled Samantha, she wanted to skip over there and shower her brother in love and affection, but figured that not doing so was smarter so she just smiled at him. "Not so easy is it."

"No, how'd you manage it?"

They all turned to her, finally remembering that she had been in a similar situation to her brother. "I didn't remember, I am still technically a tenth grader for Math and English. Oh, Jenna, I am going hunting with Stefan Today."

Silence, her sister looking jealous and horrified, Jeremy curious and kind of jealous, but it Jenna who won with a look of concern and passion.

"Why?"

"I need to channel his sacrifice for tracking spell. Well first I need to make a sacrificial knife, an Athame it's properly called, then I am going to cast a tracking spell with my first sacrifice to attempt to find the Grimoire."

Elena frowned at her, unhappy but also unwilling to channel her. Nearly being killed by her twin sister had calmed Elena's temper it seemed, at least where Samantha was concerned. "Do you need to go with him?"

"Vicki's going to be there too, Damon too actually, and yes. He's killing them anyway, if he can put them in my circle then I can cast a spell with their death and mutilation to create my knife." To add to her point, she pulled out her knife, enjoying it's shininess and it's curve. "Simple bronze, I have been channeling magic into it for a few days. It used to be one of Dad's. There's some wear and tear, I wonder where it comes from... huh? Who's calling me this early?" Feeling her phone buzzing, she stopped the conversation to pull it out, seeing a familiar number and so answered it. "Stefan, what do you..."

"I know it's last minute but can you make a Daylight ring?"

"Sure, yeah, just bring me some Lapis Lazuli and I'll get to it. Why? Is there another vamp in town?" She enjoyed the look of horror in everyone's eyes, why they didn't trust Stefan more was beyond her. He was shifty and a cradle robber but he seemed rather nice over all.

"Other vampire here." A tad rough with just a hint of rasp, the other voice was very much female and very much not Elena. "Can you really make me a Daylight ring, are you willing to?"

"Let's get together to meet and let me read you." She was pretty sure she'd get a vibe if the bitch was of the bad variety. "Be warned, if your a douche I will wait til your in broad daylight before I undo the spell. Are we clear? Even from the Otherside I have that power."

"Hehe I like you. Ok, I'm at the boarding house, I'll be here since it's Stefan's Birthday and we need to rock his worl-"

"Enough of that. See you soon Samantha."

Eyes wide, Samantha all but put her hands up. "Wait, wait, wait you did not tell me it was your birthday dumbass. Happy one hundred and sixty second. Time flies so fast when your so old."

"Not that old... but thank you." He couldn't see Elena's annoyed disapproving look, the jealousy in her eyes... Jealousy that turned into sweet amusement as she got over herself.

"It's his birthday?" She mouthed the words, her eyes moving a million miles a minute.

Samantha nodded here. "Not a prob bob, but despite how much I like you I need to see what she's like if I am going to give her a daylight ring. I refuse to give them willy nilly. Understand?"

"Understood. I wouldn't expect anything less. See you for the Hunt?"

"Yes you will. I am ready for it now. I'll pick you up. See you in ten." Smiling at her family, she hung up. "Well, that's my que so I'll be seeing you lovely people."

"I was going to go anyway, I'll come with you. It's my car anyway." Elena hurried past her, smiling as they made their way outside.

"Sure, just don't get too jealous if she's hot. I can't see Stefan with Ugly friends."

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

A bit of filler but important regardless. Shows the time skip.

Some parts will be longer, some will be shorter but not much happened between so it just would be unneeded fluff so I am skipping it!

Love, your Ninja Overlord,

Mika.
