Long Live the Evil Triplet
Chapter 16
A million Reasons
Dewey was starting to believe that Luis was never coming back. He felt that he could escape if he wanted too, but the threat Luis made about the gun kept him from that. Not only that, but he was getting flashbacks just like Huey if not at the same time he did.
Dewey saw what Huey had in the flashbacks.
Was it a freaky triplet thing?
Dewey thought it had been nightmares. But now that he knew they weren't, and that he and Huey had been having these flashbacks at the same time, and not knowing it...
Dewey shivered.
He had made it to the one cot bed that was set up near the fire stove which Luis had neglected to turn up a bit. He only hoped that the cabin wouldn't blow up as he put the stove on high, considering Dewey knew nothing about wood stove furnaces.
Was this where Luis had been those three whole weeks that he went missing?
After jumping off the boat when they were five Donald went frantic searching for him in the waters. Not wanting to believe he drowned, Donald took off every night to go and look for anywhere that Luis would have washed up on shore.
He'd leaved Huey and Dewey with a babysitter so often that they assumed that Huey and Dewey was twins, not triplets.
Later;
When Uncle Donald got home late in the morning from searching all night, he'd find the eldest two cuddled up together in the same bed. Huey still away while Dewey was sound asleep. Huey tried keeping it all together for Dewey's sake, even after Dewey had stopped whimpering and muttering in his sleep before finally settling down, Huey couldn't fall asleep and had developed insomnia over the years.
Dewey knew he kept a bottle of sleeping pills inside his drawer in their desk for that very reason. He watched Huey steal them from their Uncle Donald's medicine cabinet when he thought no one was looking.
Huey kept his condition a secret from everyone, only Dewey knew, and what was going on with Huey. Dewey felt guilty about keeping Huey up at night, his reasoning for his insomnia. Huey assured Dewey though that it wasn't all his fault, that Luis was partly to blame, that didn't help with Dewey's guilt.
He'd hide the guilt by getting into trouble, mostly on purpose, to help ease the knot in his stomach. Getting into trouble helped the pain some, but the guilt always came back and with that so did Dewey getting into trouble.
Now, Dewey was in trouble again, this time though it wasn't because of him feeling guilty. Now, it was because Dewey was stupid.
Stupid to believe his feelings for Webby wouldn't cause a rift between him and, and, Louie. Luis?
Which one of them was it that truly had feelings for her?
UGH.
This split personality disorder was getting on his last nerve. He had to do something for Louie to come back to them, once, and for all. Dewey looked around and spotted something he hadn't before and suddenly an idea started to form in his head, he smiled as he reached for it.
Bit careless of Luis to leave something like this lying around.
He'll show Luis.
Dewey wasn't going to take crap from him anymore!
"Man." Huey said, as he stared down at the small lump in the middle of the woods. It was a small girl duckling, around Webby's age. "That big creature was this, little girl?" He asked.
The rain had let up just a bit and the girl groaned, rolled over on her side, and hugged her knees up close to her chest. She was alive, but barely.
She was skinny, pale and looked like she hadn't eaten in days.
Webby bent down to pick up the poor thing but Luis stopped her.
Webby looked up at him sharply.
"Best to leave her here." Luis told her. "I'm sure she's done notified the rest of her pack..." He looked around nervously.
"She needs medical attention!" Webby exclaimed.
"Trust me," Luis said when he spotted several more pairs of eyes through the bushes. "It's best to get moving, or," He chuckled making Huey and Webby stare at him in dismay, "we're all sitting ducks." He finished and smirked at the look on their faces. "I may be evil, but I do have a sense of humor." He told them as he ushered them ahead of him quickly.
"You realize," Huey said, as they got closer to the cabin. "Dewey will think the worst seeing you with us and a gun. Right?" He asked glancing back at Luis.
Luis rolled his eyes.
"Like I care what he thinks?" Luis shot back. "Move it!" He snarled, pushing Huey roughly ahead as he paused to look back at him.
"You're as aggressive as ever." Huey muttered.
"Wonder where I get that from." Luis retorted, hearing him, rolling his eyes. "Obviously Louie isn't aggressive at all." He added, sarcastically.
"Can I say," Webby began as the made it to the front door of the cabin. "that you talking in third person is rather creepy. Louie." She said.
"Webbs." Luis said, giving her a smirk, "You haven't even seen creepy, yet." He told her and opened the door.
"Get away from them, Luis!" Dewey shouted as soon as they stepped inside the cabin.
Huey and Webby peered behind Luis and saw Dewey holding a flame torch in his hand.
Luis merely scoffed.
"Do you even know how to use that, Dewford?" Luis asked, in a calm voice.
Dewey narrowed his eyes at his baby brother and pressed the button making the torch light up blue flames.
"I'm guessing he does." Huey said to Luis, "Calm down, Dewey. It's okay." He told him. He pushed passed Luis towards Dewey and gripped the flame torch with it still on. "He's not going to hurt us." He assured him, when Dewey gave him a sharp look.
"He's got you brainwashed, hasn't he?" Dewey said, not believing him, and not lowering the torch. Webby looked from them to the torch nervously as she slowly passed Luis who didn't try and stop her, but kept the rifle up and in sight just to taunt Dewey more.
"No, Dewey. He hasn't!" Huey explained. He looked over at Webby for help. "Talk some sense into him!" He hissed at her as she quickly came up to him.
"Dewey." She whispered, as Huey backed off. He glared over at Luis who shrugged and smiled at him. He was enjoying this way to much. "It really is okay, Luis saved us just minutes ago." She told him.
This time she gripped the torch handle and held down the button making the flames die out before gently taking it out of his hands. Webby was surprised to find his hand and entire are was trembling as she handed the torch over to Huey.
"S,Saved you?" He repeated, narrowing his eyes at Luis, "from what and why?"
"I'll let you take that question." Webby said, looked over at him to as she kept her place by Dewey. Luis rolled his eyes.
"Okay, it's like this," Luis began. "Remember, that day, after I jumped from the house boat and into the water?" He asked, both Dewey and Huey.
Webby's eyes widen.
"Hard to forget." Dewey grumbled, and winced as the memory flashed in his mind.
Huey crying out to Luis over the side of the boat while Donald jumped in after him. Dewey had stood frozen in place, not really understanding what had just happened...
"Yeah, well, I found this place afterwards." Luis told them.
He walked over to the furnace stove and turned it down a bit. Dewey opened his mouth to protest but Webby nudged him in the ribs, he glared over at her.
"You've been here all this time Uncle Donald's been looking for you?" Huey asked.
"Louie was afraid to come home, and afraid to be himself again after what happened." Luis looked over at Huey. "So, I stayed here. Good thing I knew some survival skills. Guess I did inherit something from Mom." He told them as he glared over at Dewey.
"What now?" Dewey asked, staring back at him.
"Nothing." Luis snapped.
"So, while you were here, you discovered wereducks?" Webby asked.
Dewey blinked.
"What? Wereducks?" He asked.
"Yeah, Luis saved us from one, keep up Dewey." Webby whispered.
Dewey looked back over at her and saw that she was serious and remained quiet.
"Yeah, I discovered them here, but that's not all," Luis said. He sat down on the cot and leaned the gun against it. He looked down at the ground, unable to look them in the eyes. "Turns out, dear old Uncle Scrooge has had them scooping us out since we were little after Uncle Donald and him cut ties. It was all innocent, just a way for Uncle Scrooge to keep tabs on us, but then.." Luis's voice trailed off.
"Then, what?" Both Huey and Dewey asked.
Luis opened his mouth to answer just as a distant howl could be heard from the far off distance.
"Luther." Luis breathed.
His eyes widen with what Huey could only describe as pure terror.
So, Luis was scared of something. He was scared of this, Luther, character.
"Luis? Who's Luther?" Webby asked, seeing that neither Huey nor Dewey could speak at the moment. She squeezed Dewey's hand which felt clammy and sweaty.
"The leader of the pack of wereducks." Luis explained. "I've had it out with him more times then I'd like too. But -."
Another howl, followed by a growl that seemed to be closer now then the first.
"Well, that's my cue to leave." Luis said, getting up and heading for the door.
"Wait, what?" Huey asked.
Luis looked back and smirked at them.
"I've done my part here. Huebert. Now that you remember, and Dewford knows, I don't have to stay and babysit you guys anymore on this. You guys are on your own." He told them.
"Why you no good -." Dewey seethed.
He let go of Webby's hand and made his way towards him, picking the torch back up, but Huey held him back. He didn't want Dewey to do anything he'd regret. Huey seeing another side to Luis made him hesitate from having Dewey harming him.
"You know, Webbs." Luis said, as he hosted the gun over his shoulder, and gave her a sly smiled that made Webby's heart skip a beat, "I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself from earlier." He told her.
Webby blinked.
Dewey's eyes narrowed at him and Huey loosened his hold on Dewey just a bit out of shock and confusion at to what was going on.
"You can come with me," Luis continued, "leave these two loser's and all will be forgiven." He told her.
Leave?
Webby looked from Luis to Huey and Dewey, then back again.
Leave Huey and Dewey in the mercy jaws of the wereducks?
Webby had a sinking feeling that Luis hadn't told them everything. Why was Luther, the leader of the pack, so fixated on the triplets? What had changed from just an innocent tab on tab family member to an all out brawl?
"Louie still very much is in love with you, Webbs." Luis added, seeing the conflicted in her eyes. Luis knew he already had her. He could feel the invisible string pulling her closer and closer to him as his brothers stared at him with anger on their faces.
"Me? I could care less. I'm only doing this because the idiot won't stop screaming in my head at the moment." Luis continued, and winced.
Webby felt sweat pouring down her forehead.
Maybe she had been wrong. Maybe Luis is evil. Making her choose between him and Dewey was most definitely evil of him.
Luis stood, as he leaned up by the door, arms crossed and eyes twinkling as he smirked at them. Webby noticed that he was enjoying this kind of torture way too much.
She looked over at Dewey who was still struggling to break free from Huey.
Her and Dewey were finally together, Webby felt in her heart that she'd do anything to keep it that way. She had sorted out her feelings for who she thought was Louie but had all this time been Luis. If Louie wasn't willing to give in and tell Webby how he really felt about her himself, instead of Luis then, she really didn't see where that relationship was going.
"Tick Tock, Webbigail!" Luis sang out as another howl erupted into the night.
Webby shivered.
"I'd say you got at least fifteen seconds before this cabin is surrounded by Luther's pack." He added.
Webby's stomach twisted into a knot as she made her decision.
A million reasons why. She thought of a million reasons why that made it easy for her to make her decision.
It was Dewey she liked, and Dewey she had to protect.
Even if it meant that it would hurt him even more so, Webby knew what she had to do.
She slowly walked over to Luis making Dewey stop struggling against Huey who stared at her in shock and dismay.
Luis smile widen as Webby turned back to face Huey and Dewey. Luis put his arm around Webby and rubbed the side of her arm.
"Good choice." Luis cooed at her.
"W,Webby?" Dewey choked out when he finally found his voice.
Webby avoided his eyes, and looked at Huey, though she should have just looked at Dewey considering they both looked alike. It made her stomach hurt even worse with what she said to Huey.
"Watch out for him, Huey." Webby told him as Luis opened the door and walked out into the cool night air. "Be safe."
Huey's anger subsided as he saw the look in her eyes. That pleaded for him to read the unsaid message in them, that made Huey nod slowly as she followed Luis out of the cabin. The message was loud and clear to Huey.
Be safe. While I handle Luis.
Huey only hoped that Webby knew what she was getting herself into.
