REWRITE: STAR WARS - EPISODE VII - THE DARK RESURGENCE

The present fanfic is a rewrite of the first film in the sequel trilogy. This is essentially the result of a writing exercise to rethink and fix a story that has several inconsistencies and is lacking in character development. Some characters and locations are preserved, others are abandoned. Key scenes in the film tend to be preserved as well.

17. Chapter 16

Phasma overviews a mass rally in the snowy urban planet of Vekhaar. People are angrily protesting, carrying anti-republic banners and wearing old stormtrooper helmets.

"SR-8862, report," calls Phasma on her intercom.

"The signal is ready. At your command, ma'am."

"Let the uprising begin."

A heavily geared storm trooper stands by a mainframe in a dark compartiment, with a dead worker by his feet. He acknowledges Phasma's order and presses a button on his datapad.

We now see the billboards all around the snowy republic city change. Instead of advertisements they now show the insignia of the first order, and marching stormtroopers taking down republic flags. Speakers shout propaganda in the streets.

"The time has come. Down with the Republic's corruption, with banditry and the tyranny of the core worlds! For the First Order! For security, prosperity and peace!" say the speakers.

Some of the protesters take out their blasters and fire upon the riot police as they protect the suspended paths to the republic government buildings. A Jedi with a green blade stands at the forefront, leading the police. People panic and a battle starts to take shape.
