Chapter 16 Tifa's Resolve
(Location: warehouse Sector 7 slums Midgar Planet Gaia)
Ruby was so happy, eager, excited, anxious all kinds of happy feelings. Today was finally the day she will be showing them her babies. She was finally done with the weapons. Honestly, she finished making the final preparations before leaving for Mako Reactor 5. But after what happened with the Whispers, she actually forgot. All she was thinking was the mission. It was also her first mission as a member of Avalanche so, it wasn't something she can just shrug aside. It was too important and the petite had to postponed the big reveal. She didn't even told Jaune. But not anymore, no more staying quiet. The Huntress wanted to bring something positive after they parted ways with Cloud.
Seriously the mood of the group fell drastically after the mission. Barret took it hard but he was still trying to keep his head up. The fight continues and they needed to press on. She and Jaune haven't been doing well. Both needed to stay strong and not giving up they will see the blond merc again. Wedge, Biggs and Jessie weren't happy with the news and they were dealing with it in their own way. And Tifa, the silver eyed reaper was so worried about the brawler. She took it worse than anyone as she was blaming herself. Even going as far as getting herself drunk and emotionally torn. The petite hasn't checked up on her, she was probably still sleeping. Also must be experiencing a hangover from last night.
She can check up on the brawler later when they train. A hangover isn't a pretty thing not that she has ever experienced one herself. Not even her uncle would go through that. Though there was that one time in Brunswick farm he was truly drunk. That only brought bad memories to the reaper. The Huntress lead Barret, Biggs, Jessie, Wedge and Jaune through the place as she reached the storage room where her babies are kept. It was impossible to be as anxious as her because she was a million times more. Quickly opening the door as the others were patiently waiting. A giggled escaped her lips while the Arc rolled his eyes. Don't need a genius to know his silver eyed friend was super excited.
"Are we doing this? I gotta head back. I promised Marlene I would come back immediately" said the Avalanche leader.
"You waited enough. We're getting this over with now!" and she giggled again.
"Never seen anyone so happy to show us something before" commented Biggs.
"She's been waiting for this moment for a while. Can't blame her" replied the Arc smiling.
"Those weapons must be really something, huh?" said Jessie.
And Ruby just stared at her with shinning eyes, and giggled again. Going inside the storage. They didn't wasted time, following her. The petite was really hyped for this. She checked one of the shelves that was covered by a cloth, all of them were. Impressive she's able to memorized all of them. Taking one showing them to the group and without any further she removed the piece of cloth. Their eyes were on the weapon, looking like an assault rifle. Around the same model Biggs, Wedge and Shinra security officers would use. But the silver eyed girl went straight to the best part. Pressing a button in the weapon it has transformed, changing shape. Jaune smiled while the others stood in awe at its new form.
Now the Huntress was holding an axe, a one bladed version. This really caught their attention how she was able to make a two in one combo.
"You were able to make weapons like this one?" said Wedge.
"Yep. I mean, not all of them turns into an axe. I'm just getting started!"
And she went to get other models she made. Fires arms like machine gun, grenade launcher, flame thrower, probably the good ones they will most effectively against Shinra. Ruby changed them all into their other forms. A spear, a sword, and others that reminded the Huntress of her friends. A sickle and chain for Blake, a hammer for Nora, a rapier for Weiss, even a buster sword for Cloud. The petite wanted to add a cane for Oscar but she didn't had the time to craft the design. It was the same with creating another scythe for her uncle. Maybe because the last one was more painful for her to make. The memory from her friend in her world were still fresh in her head and Jaune was able to know as he gazed at those weapons.
"Holy…." Barret was pretty much speechless at the sight.
"You actually made these?" Jessie followed.
"These are in better quality than the ones in a weapon's shop" said Biggs.
"Nothing but perfection from Ruby" smiled Jaune.
"Stop it" the red cloak girl was blushing" I only thought of making durable and top notch models. Adding the two in one special. Now you have a weapon for melee and range combat."
"I want to try one!" the chubby member of the group was eager, the weapons looked so bad ass.
"Just a minute."
Barret stopped the reaper from taking a weapon and give it Wedge. He stood staring at her through his shades. Ruby felt nervous wondering what was going on in his head. Was he happy, was he pleased of her work, what if he doesn't like it. Now she was really getting worried. If he doesn't all the hard work she put on these will be for nothing. The man with a gun for an arm removed his shades, having a better look at the petite. A smile has spread her features giving a nod and that was enough to bring her to a happy mood.
"You did one hell of a job. I'm proud of you. What are you planning to do next?"
"What we talked about. You will taken a certain amount of the weapons and hand them to those experienced members in HQ. The rest will go to the weapon shop as part of my deal with Jed."
"Don't we get weapons too?" Wedge was hoping and his friends will get one.
"I don't mind one either" followed Biggs.
"Count me in too" said Jessie.
"Sure. I can lend you a couple. On the house. Or maybe in exchange for a pizza."
"I like your way of thinking. Why not" the brunette smiled.
"All right. I'll head back and contact HQ to let them know of the weapons. You get ready to send them out."
"You got it dad!"
The Huntress gasped realizing what she did. She actually called him dad, she didn't mean it. It was a friendly accident and it wasn't in her intentions to say it. Okay maybe, deep down she wanted to call him that. In just a couple of weeks she has come to see Barret as a father figure. This was part of dealing with her homesickness and condition. Ever since she's been staying in Sector 7, Ruby hasn't been affected that much from her PTSD. She will have a few dreams and visions with Cinder but it wasn't enough to scare her. She's been sleeping better and eating more. The dark skinned man stopped hearing the dad part before he resumed walking.
"Kid is pretty darn good" he muttered as he left the warehouse.
The reaper heard him as she teared up. Hearing his praise was enough to raise her spirits. Makes all the work she did paid off. Sure she sweat a lot and got dirty but she mainly do it she loves weapons. Making them was so much fun and also she's been wanting to make more creations like her baby Crescent Rose. With this big project she has shown she still has her gift to make kick ass weapons. If only her sister and the others were here to see this.
"Well, I'm off too. Better start making that pizza. Can't wait to have my weapon. Make sure you save mine would ya?" Jessie smiled leaving.
"Let us know when you're ready to move them out. We'll gladly give you a hand" Biggs gave a thumbs up to the petite.
"Yeah. We always help our friends" followed Wedge.
"Thanks, guys!" Ruby smiled watching them go.
"Looks like you did it. They're happy with your work but most of all, Barret. He really like the weapons you made. I never doubted you for a second" said Jaune.
"I knew they were going to like them. You can't pretend it's not cool to see so many of my babies."
"You didn't looked so sure when you were waiting for Barret's opinion."
"I let you know I have a right to get nervous. It's hard to tell what he's thinking when he's wearing those shades. Though I didn't had time to make other models."
"So there were more you wanted to add?"
"A scythe...I know, I thought making another one would be cool. But it won't be better than Crescent Rose. She's the best there is!"
"But you made enough for Avalanche to fight off Shinra. You did great."
"Maybe I can make those other models later" the red cloak girl stood in thought.
"I also need to finish up those special weapons I've been making for Barret and Tifa…."
"Come on. Let me help you with the weapons."
"Okay" she smiled heading to the storage.
"So Ruby. Are you going to train with Tifa today?"
"That's the plan. I still don't know if she's feeling better. But she insisted so I guess it's a go."
The Arc nodded not knowing if the brawler will be up to it. It wasn't just being drunk but her emotional state after separating from Cloud. She wasn't in the best condition and he thought it will be for the best if she takes a few days off. Until she feels better.
"Try and check if she's all right. We don't want her pushing herself. We know she hasn't been the same since how the mission ended."
"Got it. You have any plans for today?"
"Someone has to do Cloud's jobs. I'll collect the payment for him when he gets back."
"Right, gotta make sure he's still earning gil even in his absence."
"Why do you asked anyway?"
"Um…." she suddenly blushed remembering Tifa's words" it's nothing. I wasn't planning in doing Cloud's mercenary work. But you already have that covered."
The blond bought it giving a nod. He wasn't suspecting anything.
Cloud had to do some traveling after leaving the church. Had to cross from one building to another and all of them were abandoned. Guess it was no surprise coming from the slums. It was a good thing Aerith was here to tell him where to go he wasn't familiar with Sector 5. Having her around was a little, he didn't know. The ex-SOLDIER was still trying to figure out the florist. She was nice, a little too nice with that trait of looking trouble. Hearing her talk and no she wasn't ignoring her her way of acting was so familiar. Why does she act like Zack, even some of her quotes were his. First Jaune and now her. It's not it bothering her just the nostalgic feeling. Thinking he wasn't really gone.
After leaving all the climbing, they made it to the streets. It wasn't any different from Sector 7 or other slums. Pretty sure there will be monster from now on as Aerith told him she will support him. This caught the merc's attention, so she can fight. He doesn't remember Jaune and Ruby saying she could. Then again if she does visits the church often, she will run into monsters. They weren't a threat against someone like him but her and on her own. She must be good even with using materia. Still, the monsters were weak hardly a challenge. Minutes later they arrived at the residential district of the slums, reaching the under city station. There was a crowd staring at a train employee wanting to know when the next train will arrive.
Cloud knew that won't be happening for a while. With Shinra sweeping all of Midgar for the Avalanche terrorists, all transportation have been discontinued for the time being. No choice but to go on foot if he wanted to return to Sector 7. And for now he will have to stay here and make the best of it, avoid any crowded areas. Aware there should be security forces patrolling all Sectors. Wait until all of this blows over was his only choice. At least in the surveillance footage that the news showed to the world, he wasn't shown. So he was safe for now. But they will eventually knows Avalanche has help from a mercenary who used to be a SOLDIER. Things will get interesting after that. He knew he won't have a problem dealing with Shinra's men.
The station has a good view of the reactor so the merc was able to see it clearly. It was in smoke. Looks like they were able to put out the fire and obviously it has been destroyed making it another reactor down on Avalanche's list. Though he wasn't expecting Shinra to take it down if it means taking them with it. They have shown how far they're willing to go to take them out of the picture. Bring down a reactor and sacrifice mako energy for the citizens they're suppose to provide and keep safe. The sound of an engine from the air caught his attention. A chopper, one of Shinra's. On the far corner of the station he was able to see it and from the look of it, it was going to land here. Cloud took the lead going to investigate and of course Aerith went with him.
A couple of security officers got off the chopper through a rope. It is Shinra, just his luck. Someone else stepped off the chopper, not using the rope but jumping off the vehicle. A bald man with shades and beard and mustache. His black suit and tie, another Turk. Great this must have come to clean the mistake left by the other. So most likely, he was here for Aerith too. The man stepped out as the gates to the heliport closed. The ex-SOLDIER wasn't looking forward to meet with him so he chose to back down and lay low. The florist suggested to head for the backstreets where they can encounter more monsters. He will take his chances with them than the power company. Either way he can take them on.
Traveling the backstreets wasn't as easy as Cloud thought. It was a maze filled with junk, it was hard to tell where he was going if it weren't for Aerith to guide him. Glad to have her. Otherwise, he would waste too much time getting through here. This wasn't a short cut but it was better than dealing with Shinra. If there's a way to prevent from getting attention, the merc will take it. Right now, he was focused in getting back to the others in Sector 7. The monsters were the least of his worries, more Groger, Hedgehog Pie and Wererat. Nothing he and his new friend could handle. There was quite the bunch of them taking more time than expected. It seemed like hours but they finally reached the Center District.
It was good seeing people but. The big groups means the ex-SOLDIER can blend in just in case Shinra comes here. As he and Aerith walked the busy streets, there was a large screen above where everyone could see it. There was a news broadcast and the merc was pretty sure it has to be about Mako Reactor 5. Shinra will do anything to keep their" good appearance" in front of the people. They're the good guys, the heroes of a cliché story and Avalanche the villains that must be taken down at all cost. If Barret wanted to convince Midgar their cause is just and that they intent on saving the planet. It was getting harder to do so. After this, no one would believe them. The eco-group has proven they were nothing but terrorists in their eyes. The male reporter started talking.
*I'm standing inside the gutted shell of Mako Reactor 5. As you can see there's still a lot of smoke rising from the rubble. While fallen beams and other debris continue to hinder rescue efforts, the fires appear to have been mostly extinguished.*
Cloud was able to hear the crowd murmuring. Many were upset with Avalanche, downright accusing the group for the destruction. Others saying they're allies of Wutai making them official enemies of Midgar. Looks like Heidegger's plan was working perfectly. Make the people believe the eco-group has allied themselves with the enemy territory from the war. In order to stir hatred within them and support the action to go to war again.
*Ah, over there! The Director of Shinra's Advanced Weaponry Division, isn't it?*
The camera showed an attractive blond woman with an impressive cleavage in her early thirties with dark eyes wearing a red elegant dress and black heels. She didn't seemed to be happy to be here.
*Excuse me ma'am, but would you answering a few questions?*
*Move.* She rudely passed the reporter.
*Can you give us any updates on the status of the reactor? What kind of damage did it suffer in the explosion? Are we in any danger?*
The woman finally stared at the camera deciding to talk. Still her unhappy expression was still visible.
*Mako Reactor 5 has been temporary shut down, and all fire have been successfully extinguished. The situation is under control, and the people of our fair city need not worry about additional complications. We are in the process of conducting a full forensic investigation. But we suspect the device used was similar to that employed in the attack on Mako Reactor 1.*
She showed her device showing the surveillance footage from when Avalanche infiltrated Reactor 1. Everyone gasped while others glare at the terrorists.
*The perpetrators of that atrocity were filmed making their escape. These agents of the eco-terrorist group Avalanche are currently believed to be hiding somewhere in Midgar….*
*And...Given that this group has now attacked two reactors in quick succession...Can they really be stopped before they strike again?*
*What do you think?*
*Well, I-*
Scarlet rudely pushed the cameraman to the ground as she kept staring at it.
*Have no fear. Shinra will keep Midgar safe. She finally walked out.*
*Okay, time's up!* A security officer made the cameraman cut the feed.
The crowd was still mumbling not looking they were assured or calm by the woman's words. It was no surprise they would feel like this. After two Avalanche attacks that destroyed two mako reactors, anyone would be worried. Thinking another attack was inevitable and Shinra won't make it on time to stop them. These people were panicking more than relaxing hoping everything will be all right. Aerith continued to lead the way no need to stay here any longer. Cloud found out the florist is quite popular in Sector 5. Everywhere he go they would waved at her and even tell her if she could help out with their business. Among those, a bunch of kids that are suppose to be from the Leaf House Orphanage.
All the orphans asked the florist the whereabouts of Jaune and Ruby. Seems they have missed them a lot. The young woman smiled but didn't know how to give them an answer. Specially now that she finally knows. Having a strong feeling she won't be able to see those two again. The ex-SOLDIER noticed the expression on the kids as they went with the others to play. They passed the doctor heading further into the district. And stopped as they were staring at a house. The front door was opened and the inside was a real mess. Cloud decided to enter only to see that it was worse from a simple glance. This wasn't normal, he had a feeling this was more than it looks. This was no prank, it has to be something else. Something more serious.
"What happened here?"
"Shinra…." replied Aerith" this used to be Ruby and Jaune's place. They managed to buy it with enough gil they worked so hard for. After the incident at Reactor 1 they came and searched the whole place from top to bottom. They started bombarding me with questions if I know where they were. Because they know I'm close to them. It's been like this ever since. Luckily, they didn't had much of value. Now that they're wanted, things won't ever be the same."
"They chose to join Avalanche on their own free will, because they want to save the planet. It's their mission. At least that's what they've said. Being from another world."
The florist gasped staring at the blond merc" they told you the truth?"
"You know too?"
"Of course! I was the first person to know. I had a strong feeling about them, that they weren't from around here. So they eventually told me."
"You believe them?"
"You don't?"
"Too much ludicrous information to find it truthful."
"If they chose to tell you. That must mean they trust you a lot" she smiled.
"I'm not the only one that knows…."
The mercenary walked through the trashed home as his eyes traveled to the rooms. One with a bed.
"Separate bed rooms?" he said out loud.
"Why yes. One for each. I don't see them sharing a bed to be honest…." she so wanted to add the"yet" as she smirked in her head.
"They do share one now."
This caught the florists attention. Before her green eyes widened as her mouth went wide opened.
"Say what?! When?! How long!?"
"Calm down" he had to take a few feet away from the shocked woman.
"I knew the time would come for them to share a bed. Never thought it would be so soon...They're getting closer. And I'm missing it, this sucks. I have to make up for all the days I've missed and tease Ruby a lot. She's not getting away with this."
"I'm starting to wonder why they left" Cloud sweat dropped.
"Anyway, let's go. There's nothing here for us."
He nodded following her out of the abandoned house. Guess she truly misses them. More than those children. The ex-SOLDIER followed her in a straight path between more house. She must live far away from this place.
"So Cloud, what's your favorite flower?"
"They're all the same to me."
"You sure you wanna say that to a florist?"
"Better than lying."
"Okay, then what did you do with the flower I gave you?"
"I, uh…." oh boy why did she had to ask him that.
"You give it away?"
"I did" what else to do but to say the truth.
"Ooh! To who? Tell me!" Ruby might not be here so she might be able to find someone new to tease but who was she kidding, it was better to tease the silver eyed girl.
"Don't recall" he lied but he made sure to sound honest about it.
"Hmmm?" she sounded amuse.
"What?"
"Thought you didn't like lying. Well, anyway…."
Damn she got him. Just how did she figured it out. Cloud was sure he was going to get away with it. It's not he didn't wanted to tell her he gave the flower to Tifa. It's just he didn't wanted to get too close to her. Not wanting to involve her any further than she already is. Shinra was after her because she might have information on Jaune and Ruby. But he knows that's not the case. So, he came to the conclusion there must be something else. There has to be more to explain why the Turks are after her. That red head at the church had other intentions than just asking her about the whereabouts from two terrorists. Guess he's not the only one keeping secrets.
Aerith smiled as they finally arrived at her home. The merc was surprised, taken back by the sight. First, there were so many plant life and water. He hasn't seen so much nature in a long time. It will explain why she would be able to get flowers to sell. At the end stood a beautiful wooden house. So different and in better conditions than the other houses from the slums. So she lives away from the rest. The young woman opened the front door inviting him. It was even better on the inside. This was truly a nice place to live. It also reflects on the young woman's personality.
"I'm home!"
"Hey baby."
Elmyra was in the kitchen doing the dishes not looking at her yet as her focus was on the chore.
"Been up to no good? Rude came by-" she finally gazed at her daughter but paused seeing the unfamiliar face.
"So, this is my mom, Elmyra. And this is Cloud. My bodyguard."
"Uh...Hi…." he has to sound so awkward.
"Take good care of her?" she walked closer to the bodyguard noticing his eyes.
"That's my job. Or was my job?" well he did brought her back safe and sound.
"Yep. Thanks."
"So, Cloud, you gonna head back to Sector 7?"
"Yeah."
"Then I'll show you the way."
Wait, that was it. There has to be more the merc couldn't buy it.
"Then why'd you have me bring you here? What if the Turks show up again?"
"It'd suck, but I've dealt with them before. Honestly, I'm much more worried about you. What if you get lost, huh?"
Okay, so she might have a point. He has never been to Sector 5 before and he had no idea how to get back without taking the train. Surely he can find the way if he asks around. But then again, he might be running into the Turks and putting himself in danger. The ex-SOLDIER didn't had time to waster, he wanted to return to the others now.
"You'd be too embarrassed to admit it, and so you'd just keep on going."
"Quit acting like you know me."
"Hey, Mom? I'm gonna take Cloud over to Sector 7, okay?"
"Okay…." it will be futile to tell her daughter to stay away from trouble" but why not wait until tomorrow? If you head out now, it'll be dark when you get back. Better rest up here and make the trip first thing in the morning. When, you'll have daylight to spare."
"That's true. She's got a point, Cloud."
"Hold up."
"Oh, yeah! I still need to deliver some flowers to the Leaf House. Since we have a little time before dinner…You should come with.
"That wasn't the deal" seriously wasting more time isn't going to do it with him.
"You mean you want more? Even though you've got a priceless reward coming your way?" she smiled.
"Do you know what I promised him?"
"I'll do it!" the last thing he needed is getting a lecture from the young woman's mother.
"I'll go grab the baskets. Be right back!" she smiled again before leaving.
Cloud mentally sighed, she was unbelievable. How easily she can convince him otherwise. Looks like it will have to wait before he can return to Sector 7. He hoped the others weren't so worried. Specially Tifa, she must be worried sick. She was the one that tried so hard to talk him into staying as if was their home. Losing their original home didn't helped. Both have been looking for that perfect place for a while.
"That Aerith. She's a handful, isn't she?"
"You're telling me" he nodded.
"It must be tough-No, never mind."
The ex-SOLDIER decided not say a word. He didn't wanted to trouble the woman. Besides, her daughter was already doing enough as it is.
"You must forgive her" Elmyra spoke again" she's been more restless than usual. She's worried because some close friends of hers left and they haven't returned."
"Ruby and Jaune."
"You know them?" the woman got surprised.
"Met them, and living with them in the same place."
"I see. Must be the reason why she chose you to be her bodyguard. Are they all right?"
"They can look after themselves" better not give too many details.
"Yes, I had a feeling that was the case. They are mercenaries like you after all."
"Found 'em!"
Aerith arrived climbing down the stairs with two baskets.
"Take one."
Cloud hesitated, why did he felt embarrassed. Maybe because it will be his first time actually holding a basket.
"Take it."
He nodded taking it. This is definitely not in the job description of a mercenary. And she was paying him with a date. Not exactly what he's looking for.
"Right. Off we go!"
"Seriously she should pay me with gil."
Ruby and Tifa were having one of their sparring matches. The brawler mentally smiled at the silver eyed petite. She still has ways to go but she was slowly improving. She admires her determination to get strong in hand to hand combat. If she keep this up she might pose a real challenge for her. True the brawler didn't became so skilled in Zangan's art from one day to another, or months, or a year, it took her a whole longer than that. She was more than happy the red cloak girl was taking the training seriously. At least it was helping forget the fact her head was still pounding. The hangover took aq tool on her and those aspiring she took weren't strong enough to get rid of it. Tifa made a mental note to never get drunk ever again, or drink for the matter.
Both ladies were trying to match each other's moves, with with similar punches and kicks. It looked more like Ruby wanted to mimic the brawler to try and have the upper hand. The Huntress she couldn't beat her all she could is try to impress her with the moves she taught her. The point wasn't beating her just proving she was getting better. Eventually she got outmatched, Tifa has proven to be faster and stronger. And with no using her semblance the reaper didn't had her edge. She could use it but it was better to play fair this wasn't an official match. The silver eyed girl was able to blocked a kick but failed to do so with the incoming one, sending her to the ground. That hurt, she should have seen that coming.
"You lowered your guard just now. And you weren't keeping your eyes on my movements either. Those are easy ways to get beaten."
"I almost had you there" she was helped by the brawler.
"You won't if you keep making those rookie mistakes. I thought I taught you better than that."
"Not my fault you're super tough" the petite pouted.
"That's an excuse. You can do better if you concentrate more. I know you can do it."
"Trying to earn brownie points from me, meanie" Ruby pouted again this time, she looked more adorable.
"Did I earned them?" Tifa smiled back.
"Yeah...No, not yet! I'm feeling hungry" the red cloak girl was feeling her stomach grumbling.
"I'll treat you then."
The Huntress cheered.
"Are you feeling better now?" the reaper walked along the brawler.
"I am, much better. Compare to when I woke up this morning."
"You shouldn't drink at all. It's not healthy and...I don't like it. My uncle was the same. He thought he could get rid of the sadness and pain from drinking it away."
"It doesn't help in the slightest. I learned my lesson. Nothing good comes from drinking so much."
"I'm glad you're not sad anymore. I know it's not easy without Cloud-" Ruby gasped realizing she made the mistake to bring the merc's name in the conversation.
"It's okay. I know he's all right and we'll see him again."
"I promise we'll find him."
"Thanks Ruby" she was more than grateful.
Both went to one of meal cars near the undercity station. Ruby loves the meals they will make. Sure other places are good but these dishes are the best. She really needed this and she wished Jaune would have join them. The Arc was busy doing Cloud's jobs for him. And he will also be collecting the gil earned for him too. Cooking for him was out of the question because she is that bad. As Tifa paid the bill she noticed a group of people near the station talking to a woman. It shouldn't bother her but had a feeling something wasn't right. The expression on the woman's face was of concern and they didn't seemed like a friendly bunch. They seem like thugs there were people like that in the slums but these screamed nothing but trouble.
They stopped talking to her so they had no intentions of doing anything that will make her interfere. There will always those bastards wanting to take advantage of women expecting they won't fight back. But still bothered her how uncomfortable she was after they talked to her. Now they were talking to a couple with their child. The brawler turned to Ruby, signaling the girl to follow her. The reaper nodded seeing her expression something must be up. They walked slowly through the street calmly not wanting to cause a commotion. These people, Tifa was so sure these guys are bad news. Specially since she has never seen them in this part of the slums before. Either they're from somewhere in Sector 7 or from another Sector.
"What are we doing?" asked the Huntress.
"Those guys over there. Something's up."
"Should we beat them up?"
The brawler gave a chuckle" no. But we will keep that option open just in case. Let's see what they have to say"
The silver eyed girl nodded as they were staring at the group of men talking to the couple.
"You sure, you don't know?" asked one of the thugs.
"I'm sure. I have no idea about them or where they could be."
"Can you at least tell us if they're here? You really should be honest."
"I have tell you the truth. Me and my wife don't know about Avalanche."
"Avalanche?" Tifa was shocked as she turned to Ruby and she was shocked too.
"Please, we really don't know where could they be hiding. Just let us go" said the man's wife trying not to panic.
"Fine, get out of here."
The couple took their son leaving in a hurry. After that, anyone would freak out. The brawler and the reaper were staring at them with a serious gaze.
"This is starting to become a pain in the ass. The slums are huge. It's like searching for a damn needle in a haystack. It could take us forever to at least get a lead."
"Quit your whining. We have a job to do. We don't complain, we do it."
"We might find something if we search the district area."
The group of thugs passed near the two as they took cover making sure not to get spotted. As they said, they were heading to the residential district. It wasn't looking good if they get to Seventh Heaven.
"Why are they looking for Avalanche?" asked the red cloak petite.
"I knew there was something not right about them. It's not normal for anyone to be asking about the group."
"Could they be working for Shinra?"
"They would never hire people to do their job let alone mercenaries" she stood in deep thought of who could be pulling their strings.
"What should we do?"
"Go and warn Biggs, Wedge and Jessie just in case. I'll keep an eye on them" Tifa knew Barret has left to spend some time with Marlene.
Ruby nodded leaving, using her semblance to hurry up. The brawler went to follow the thugs. It wasn't the fact they were looking for Avalanche that has her curiosity active but rather, who order them to do so. It wasn't the power company, she was very sure of that. So who could it be. Someone not affiliated with them. Better to not lose track of them keep watching to see if she can get more information that can be useful.
Tifa followed the shady thugs through the section of the houses. They have been asking the same questions to anyone they see. It made her so glad that not everyone in Sector 7 knew that this the home of the eco-group. Only a small amount would know because they would either be members themselves or people that helps them in secrecy. There will always be those that are against Shinra's method to how they treat the planet's mako. Carefully she slipped through the people and any small obstacles focusing on them. So far they haven't spotted her that was good. Looks like they haven't seen the news where they showed the Reactor 1 footage of the others infiltrating the place. They have no idea what members of Avalanche would look like.
"Hey kid!"
Tifa saw one of the thugs calling a little girl, another person they will interrogate. The kid stood clm while trying not to be afraid at the presence of the men. They were strangers and she was taught better than not to talk to them.
"I bet you know the slums better than anyone, right?"
"I…." she paused.
"We're not going to hurt you. We just want to ask you a question. Then you can go, okay?"
She only nodded.
"If you answer me honestly now, I'll give you some money. Yep, enough gil so you can buy all the candy you like."
This was enough to make her smiled as she nodded. The brawler didn't like this it was a dirty trick but effective.
"I'm sure you have heard of Avalanche. You have heard from them from the news. Do you know them?"
"I do…."
"Good. Do you know where we can find them? We heard rumors that they could be somewhere around here."
Tifa's eyes narrowed so they know that much. But how, and from who.
"I don't know…I've never known they're here."
"Come on be honest. Don't you want the gil?"
"I do but I don't know anything. I swear."
He didn't like her answer getting as he was about to reach to her before he got stopped by the others. The girl ran off from getting scared.
"Calm the fuck down man. She's just a kid."
"Goddamn it I am sick of this shit! We'll never get a lead. At this rate we'll be here for weeks or worse! Shinra is barely having any luck finding them what are the chances that we'll find anything?!"
"You ain't the only one frustrated but we must do this. It's our job."
"Our job?! We're lackies not security officers. We get paid to do shitty jobs not hunt down a terrorist group!"
"Nobody likes it any more than you. But we have to do this cause those are the Don's orders. When he speaks, we obey."
"The Don?" Tifa stood shocked" Don Corneo of Wall Market!"
Now she knows. Those men are working for Corneo but it didn't made sense. Why is he looking for Avalanche. It's not like he's working for Shinra. What if someone paid him to search for the eco-group. That will make sense They have many enemies it wasn't just the power company. The brawler stood in thought, what to do next. Is there something she can do. Of course she knows who Corneo is, he rules Wall Market in the former area that was once Sector 6 like a king rules a castle. He's the top dog of that place. The wisest course of action will be to let Barret know immediately. She still didn't know why he was looking for them. The brawler knew there has to be something big behind all of this. Another course of action will be for her to find out on her own.
But why not do both. Tell him and do something about it. This could be her only chance to get investigate and get important information that might help the group. This needed to be done carefully, they couldn't find out she's with Avalanche. Still she wanted to tell Barret because leaving him in the dark will be wrong. She can make him promise her not to tell anyone else. There was one way to have better chances in getting the answers she's seeking. And that's by having Corneo himself tell her and to do that she will have to take a big risk. Knowing the kind of man he is thought disgust her. But it was the only way to have an audience with him. The Don will never show his face to public events except if it's something he truly likes. Like women for example.
"Barret's not going to like this."
The brawler kept her composure gazing at the thugs. By now, they have ended up arguing about not doing this job. Wanting to return to Wall Market, wanting to drink, wanting to gamble. These people are so whiny but, what expect from Corneo. If she can talk her out of these morons then the big fish will be easy. She just needed to user charms and unfortunately that's what was her concern. Walking up to them she brought her best fake smile to greet them. Time to act like one of those cheap women type, she hated it. Reminding herself she was doing this for Avalanche.
"Excuse me?"
They stopped their bickering staring at the young woman before them. Very attractive with a nice body not bad at all. Some were in awe blushing while others were grinning. The brawler did her best to ignore their perverted expressions. This goes to show the kind of people Corneo will hire. This is one of the reasons why Shinra would never bother with these guys. They're just pitiful people who would do anything for quick cash. No morals, no training, no experience. they're wash up folks. Barret would call them trash.
"Well, hello. How can we help you?" the leader gave a smile.
"I'm sorry for bothering you. I couldn't help it, I was passing by when I overheard. Are you all working for Don Corneo?"
"What if we are, you want an autograph?"
They kept giving her those dirty looks. How she wanted to beat the crap out of them. Mentally calming down remembering why she was doing, she kept her smile.
"I was wondering. Being workers of the Don himself I'm sure you will know. Any news on when the next audition will be?"
Hearing this thugs got a little upset from their faces. Others, disappointed. Corneo has the best luck in the world. Owning Wall Market wasn't enough but to have all the beautiful ladies at his disposal. Looks like this one was another one looking for the Don's approval.
"Why are you asking doll face?"
"If the audition is still going on, maybe I...Can participate. I know about the Don's tastes. I'm always looking after my figure and looks" she winked and she already regrets it.
"Damn, she's a keeper "one of them muttered.
"It's not the first time a lady from outside of Wall Market would be interested to join. You think you have what it takes to be the Don's woman?"
"I am. It shouldn't be so hard."
"Well, you're in luck sweet heart. The Don is still accepting candidates. If you want in, you're in."
"That's it?" Tifa stood shocked, it was just too easy.
"That's it. Of course you will have to change into something that will catch his eye. If you know what I mean. In the end he's the one that gets the last word. Make sure you're pretty enough to get his attention and you might just pull it off."
"Thank you. I am honored. But unfortunately I don't have any transportation. I don't suppose you will let me use the train?" she was still shocked it was this easy.
"No train. The Don never relies on that kind of transportation. Just tell us your name and where to pick you up. He already has special transport for all candidates."
The young woman nodded it should have been obvious Croneo has his own transport. Someone like him would never accept using public transportation.
"My name is Tifa and I'll be waiting in front of the apartment complex Stargazer Heights" this is the right thing to do she wasn't letting them get near the Seventh Heaven.
"All right Tifa. We'll let the Don know and most likely the transport will arrive by the evening. So make sure you're ready by then."
"I will."
"Well boys. Our job is done."
"But we still haven't found Avalan-"
The man got hit, not finishing his sentence as the brawler pretended she didn't hear. These guys didn't had a clue, they were just dogs doing a favor. Corneo would never tell them a word. That's why she needed to ask him personally and find out why he's interested in the eco-group.
"Shut up. We're done here. The Don always thinks pleasure before business. There's a new candidate for the audition so he will prefer to hear this piece of news over us coming back empty handed."
"And besides. If she doesn't make the cut...We get to have her for ourselves" he muttered loud enough for the group to hear.
Without another word they turn back and walked off. Stealing a few glances at the brawler. She was still surprised it was that easy to participate in the audition. Guess it shouldn't since the requirements are you be a young and beautiful woman. All she needed to do now is find some clothes that would be fitted to get Corneo's attention. That will not be a problem because she has enough gill to buy herself an elegant dress.
"Tifa!"
The brawler turned to see Ruby running to her.
"What happened?"
"Nothing. Those people won't be trouble anymore."
"You sure?" the petite was staring at the thugs who were far away.
"They were just trying to find a way to earn money. Announcing Avalanche to Shinra is part of their reward. Let's head back."
The Huntress gave a slow nod remember how worried she was that they could pose a threat. It also made sense. She followed her with while Tifa was feeling so bad with herself for lying. She didn't like it but it will have to be this way until she leaves. Barret will be the only one to know. Depending how he will take it which he will get upset. Tifa trust he will understand and let her do this. She can handle herself and she already has her weapon wherever she goes. Her fists.
Jaune smiled as he was finally taking a break from doing Cloud's jobs. They weren't that hard some were very familiar to the ones he and Ruby used to do when they were in Sector 5. He was done and he collected all the gil for the merc. That way he'll be able to pay him when he returns. Neither him or the reaper weren't giving up on him. They knew he was still alive and he was currently laying low until Shinra call it a quits with their search. It didn't matter if they thought if they were dead or not after the destruction of Mako Reactor 5, they were planning of finding the rest of Avalanche. The Arc thought of grabbing something to eat before taking another look around. He didn't saw Chadley in his usual spot. Then again, the teen has told him he will usually travel so he was probably not here.
Passing through one of the restaurants something got his attention. There was someone seated in one the small round tables writing something on a note pad. The blond smiled recognizing the woman, it was Emma. The ex-journalist from the Midgar Planet Star paper he met a months back in Wall Market. He hasn't seen her since then. She quit because she was tired of hearing the same thing from only one source. Coming to the conclusion the paper is corrupted for always supporting Shinra no matter what. Whether there's evidence or not they will immediately take the power company's side. The Arc was glad for her, seeing that things aren't always what they seem. The Huntsman decided to greet her walking over to her table.
"Emma, hi."
"Well it's been a long time Jaune. Never thought I would see you again" the woman smiled pausing her writing.
"I guess it's been a while."
"Yes. These past few months I've been very busy. Doing a lot of work in search for the truth and building my reputation."
"I've been very busy too" definitely to think a lot of things happened in just three months" you're doing okay?"
"I've had better days. I've been able to sustain myself working for small independent papers. The salary isn't the same compare when I was working for the Midgar Planet Star. But better something than nothing."
"I hope you do get your big chance. Not all journalists are like you. They would rather follow whatever they're told instead of what they think."
"That's how it should be. But I'm not your average journalist. For once I want to hear the story from the other side. If you only listen to one side it's bound to leave you blind. I'm done looking at the same side now I want to look at the other one. Any information I find I will accept it because I do want to rebuild my career as a journalist. But also, to make myself a better individual."
Jaune nodded she has shown she's not biased to follow the rest of the crowd. If she was interested in the opposite of what has to do with Shinra then he won't stop her from finding what she's looking for. He will support her if that's what she wants. Journalists can be curious to want to know more than just what they told them.
"Since you're here, might as well lend you in a small secret" Emma smirked" I currently have in my possession something very important. Something viral that can help me in my career."
"Sounds like it's a secret that should be keep."
"I do owe you for giving me that free massage ticket. I can tell you."
"You sure? If it's too big maybe it's better if you don't tell me."
"I'll be repaying you the favor. I'm sure you must have heard about the incident of Mako Reactor 1?"
Jaune nodded why would she bring that. Now he will understand if it was Reactor 5 because it happened around a day ago. But why tell the attack on the first reactor that happened weeks ago.
"Everyone knows what happened it was all over the news and the paper."
"Exactly. Word is Avalanche is responsible for the destruction of the reactor. At least, that's what they want us to believe."
The Arc raised an eyebrow what was she talking about. The journalist made sure nobody was looking or eavesdropping.
"There's a truth Shinra has been keeping from us. They told the media and the media obey as always. But I found out what it is. And it's a game changer, nothing to what I was expecting."
Okay now she has gotten his attention. The Huntsman was pretty sure they were the ones who destroyed it. What truth could she be talking about. His curiosity has been raised to another level.
"You're not kidding, right?"
"I wish I was, but I'm not. There are bigger things going on behind the scenes. Shinra has been keeping us in the dark…."
The journalist has taken something from her skirt's pocket. A USB flash drive.
"In here, holds surveillance footage from the reactor. It shows the true culprit of it's destruction. Was I ever surprised when I saw it. Such valuable information must be brought to the eyes of the public. Unfortunately it is too soon. If I reveal it now, the people will not believe it. They will immediately jump to Shinra's defense claiming it's false or say it's a trick by Avalanche. This is the first part of reconstructing my image as a real journalist. I need more info and sadly I lack the resources for the time being. Until I gather more this right here, will have to remain a secret."
There were so many thoughts racing through Jaune's head. How curiosity was killing him. He wanted to know, he needed to know. Does the footage showed them fighting the Scoprion Sentinel and leaving after defeating it where the bomb detonated. Emma hasn't called him out yet. So it was possible she didn't know he's with Avalanche. Either way he needed to know and gave a look at that flash drive.
"That's...Really something…."
"Definitely something you will not hear every day. I do hope you can keep all of this to yourself t. You're involved now, which means I'm not the only one who can get into trouble."
"I'm not planning on telling. But, Emma...Think you can show me the footage?"
"I would love to if I had a device to show you. I can barely keep the shitty place I'm currently staying. Let alone buy a computer. It's not easy being cut off from those corporate assholes."
That was no problem for the Arc. He can ask Wedge or Biggs for help. Avalanche have a couple of computers to keep track of their missions and other things. That was one thing out of the way. The second will be convincing the woman to lend him the flash drive which he knew well she wasn't going to give it to him. Due that she has in her hand very important information she would never let go. He can still try though.
"Do you mind if you let me...Borrow it?"
"I thought I heard wrong. Care to repeat that?"
"I promise I will return it. You have my word."
"Taking your word isn't enough. I'm thankful you gave me that massage ticket. But there is no way I will ever give a piece of information that holds the deepest truth from the same company that owns Midgar."
"I'm not planning of keeping it. I only want to see the footage that's all. Once I'm done I will return it to you immediately. You have to believe me."
"Do you have any idea what I had to go through to get my hands on this? I had to endure a lot of shit, give the remaining of my gil, go hungry, spend a night in the street and the list goes on. The answer is no. Nothing you will do or say will make me think otherwise."
Jaune kept himself calm he needed to think and fast. Okay so she's a journalist searching for that hot, spicy story to fix image and popularity. Eyes widened as a grin formed on his lips. He had a plan and this will definitely work.
"Nothing I say or do won't change your mind? Okay fine, that's good. I was thinking I could give you access to something that will really interest you. Like searching for those answers and those resources you so need. But it's okay it's clear you're not interested. You know I thought an exclusive interview with the leader of Avalanche in exchange for lending me the flash drive might do. But no you're not-"
"What the hell are you saying?" Emmo stood perplexed.
"You heard me. I know the guy that runs Avalanche, I know him well. Because I work for him, I'm a member."
"Bullshit. You're not one of them" she scoffed not believing him.
"When we first met I wasn't a member back then. But now I am. I can give you that interview if you want it. Then again you might not be interested-"
"This better not be some kind of sick joke Jaune or I swear-"
"It's not. You let me borrow the flash drive, I'll give you that interview. What do you say?"
The journalist was glaring at him. Enough to put a big hole on his face. Yep, she was thinking hard for this. An interview with the leader of Avalanche will help her so much. She can actually find out the group's intentions understand how they work. It was the chance she waiting for, she needs this. Her pride as a journalist was screaming at her to do it. What does she has to lose, she has lose so much already.
"I'll do it. But it doesn't mean I trust you. I'll give you the flash drive unless you let me go with you."
"What…?" he sweat dropped.
"I'm not planning to hand it to you just like that. So I'll go with you. Those are my terms otherwise, you can forget it. Take it or leave it."
"She's not making this easy" Jaune sighed.
If she's going to interview Barret, might as well meet the rest of the gang. The blond rubbed his forehead sure, this could work. But whatever is in that footage better be worth it if he was risking identities and getting into trouble with the boss. He knew the big man behind Avalanche wasn't going to be happy with his choice.
"Okay, let's go."
"Good" Emma smiled getting up.
Jaune went to the weapon shop with the journalist following him. She wasn't planning on leaving his side. Most likely the gang will be at the guard house on the second floor. The Arc took noticed that there plenty of people buying weapons. Which are the ones Ruby made. Jed was sure happy selling them, making a nice profit. The Huntsman arrived and was happy to see Bigss along, polishing a rifle. His eyes followed at what he was looking for. There was a computer at the end, it was an old version but it didn't matter.
"Hey, what's up? Who's the lady?"
"We need to see what's on this flash drive. Think you can use the computer?"
"Sure. But what's all of this about?"
"Is he with Avalanche too?" asked Emma.
The young man turned to him shocked.
"I told her."
"You what?!"
"Just check the flash drive. There's something that we need to see."
They went to the computer as Emma finally handed the device. Biggs inserted waiting for the system to upload. He was still shocked Jaune just told someone. The blond was sure asking for trouble. The system was finally up checking the content of the flash drive clicking on the icon of a video. The screen was now showing the three a familiar place.
"This is a Mako Reactor…."
"It's reactor 1" confirmed the journalist.
"It's the reactor room" followed the Arc.
The surveillance footage showing seem to have started recording around the time the group defeated the Scorpion Sentinel. Which it was strange or maybe, way after. The bomb was placed on the reactor. So far neither of the male knew what they are suppose to see. Biggs was clueless while Jaune gazed at Emma. The woman only signaled to keep on watching. The bomb has exploded but they noticed the explosion wasn't that strong. They eagerly stood waiting for the smoke to cleared out. Once it did, their eyes widened in pure shock. The core of the reactor was broken but it was still intact. The bomb wasn't strong enough to destroy it.
"What the…."
The next thing also shocked as they spotted some sentry rays firing at the core followed by a Sweeper opening fire at it. That was enough to destroy it and eventually causing a bigger explosion. Which it was the same explosion that took the whole reactor and part of Sector 8. Biggs and Jaune were still shocked, speechless at what they have just seen. The footage obviously ended as the camera got caught in the explosion. The video was done playing and they still stood there. Trying to recall the new information given to them. Emma took the flash drive away from the computer taking it back in her hands.
"Shinra destroyed their own reactor. Blaming Avalanche was the obvious course of action to take and the people immediately believed them. I don't know what they gain by doing this but I have a feeling the same thing might have happened at Reactor 5. I would like to know that as well."
"The bomb...It never destroyed the core" said Biggs smiling.
"Which means it's NOT Jessie's fault after all!" Jaune was more than happy.
"She's going to be so relief when she finds out."
"Excuse me?! Don't ignore me!"
"We have to tell her immediately, she needs to know now!"
"We'll do, after she returns from patrol with Wedge."
Figures she would want to go on patrol when her injury hasn't fully heal yet.
"Hey!"
Both men turned to the annoyed Emma glaring at them.
"Aw, right sorry. Biggs this is Emma she used to be a journalist for the Planet Star. She's been wanting to get non-biased information regarding Shinra and Avalanche. I told her we're part of the group so she can showed the content of the flash drive. And also with her giving Barret and interview."
"Okay I get it now. But the last part will put you in a great deal of trouble. You know how the boss is when it comes to anyone from the press."
"She quit the paper. She doesn't have an agenda to try and rat us to Shinra" explained the Arc.
"I do have an agenda. To find the truth and it seems I have taken the right path with quitting the paper. If you know what is Shinra's planning with destroying their own reactor. I would like to know."
"They did destroyed Reactor 5 too. Seems like they want to use Avalanche as an excuse to go to war with Wutai."
Biggs only shook his head. So now Avalanche was considered an ally of Wutai officially making them enemies of not just the power company but all of Midgar as well. This really complicate things.
"They want to resume the war. I am not shocked. To be honest I had a feeling they weren't happy with the ceasefire. They're all nothing but proud and arrogant fools who only desire to fill their ego. If only the people would know that the company they place their faith and safety doesn't care about them. I bet they don't care how many casualties they suffered as long as they can reign victorious over their enemy."
"Whoa. Lady that is harsh" Biggs stood wide eyed at the journalist.
"This is reality and reality is harsh. It's not as pretty as one makes it to be. I finally see Shinra for who they really are. Now that I have a clue of what I'm getting myself into I can't stop it. I must see this to the end. I will do whatever I can to bring this information to light and let the people know the truth. It won't be easy."
"I don't regret telling you Emma. Thanks a lot" Jaune smiled.
"Make sure you keep your end of the bargain. I want that interview."
"Sure. I'll talk to him" he sweat dropped.
"I still say you're in trouble" followed Biggs.
Tifa was in her room smiling at the dress she has bought. Dark lilac elegant, sexy, it will bring her beauty to new heights. A shame she was wearing for the worse occasion possible. This was the kind of outfit to go a beautiful place with that special someone. Her and Cloud going a restaurant, having dinner and maybe dance in one of those fancy places. It made her smile and blushed, only in dreams. It was also a shame the merc wasn't going to see her in the getup. The brawler didn't had a plan in mind until she actually gets there. It was easy to enter the audition but getting picked, that will be the hard part. Knowing the competition will be challenging, there might women more attractive than her in will lead for Corneo to choose someone that isn't her.
One thing she made up her mind. Bring her casual attire and gauntlets because she knew she was going to need them. Put them on a bag make sure no one sees them. She wasn't sure if the contestants will be checked for weapons or anything that can be seen as a threat. There was a reason why Corneo rules Wall Market like it was his own dungeon. A knock on the door caught her attention going to answer it. She knew it was Barret since she told him before going to buy the dress. Just as she thought he didn't took it nicely. The dark skinned man was upset for being so careless and wanting to go alone to a dangerous place. Everyone knew what kind of place is Sector 6, all kinds of people are there. Opening the door stood the Avalanche leader still not looking happy.
"I'm sorry. I know it wasn't the best decision to make. And you can be upset as much as you like."
The man entered the room closing the door behind him, removing his shades. He would never yell at Tifa or say anything to insult or upset her. He has come to see the brawler as an older daughter. Still he has a right to say a few things to set her straight.
"You know what you did was stupid. Giving yourself up like that. When you told me, I was ready to lecture you in a not so good way. But I calm down and thought things through. You're smart so I thought you will be better than this. Guess I was wrong."
"Barret-"
"Let me finish. You got yourself in a situation worse than being trapped in a Mako Reactor. You're going to a place that belongs to someone way worse than Shinra. Someone that doesn't give a shit about laws and morals and he puts everyone above him. Because all he cares about the most is himself. I just want to know what the hell were you thinking?"
"I have to do this, I'm the only one who can. Asking Corneo directly is the only way. There has to be a reason why he will be looking for Avalanche. It can't be a coincidence that his men are searching for us right after the incident of Reactor 5."
"That sick bastard only cares about three things. His own ass, wealth and women. Shinra has a reward on our heads. It's a no-brainer why he would try to search for us. You just thrown yourself into the monsters den with no way out. Once you go in, there's no going back."
"You think I don't have what it takes?" she got upset.
"You're way over your head Tifa. This plan is crazy as hell and you know it. You made the mistake of thinking going alone was the right thing to do. You didn't even consulted me about it."
"I did tell you my plan."
"Right after you made the choice and the action, then you chose to tell me. That is completely different. Because now I don't know what the hell to do! If I send anyone with you, we'll be asking for trouble. Having Wall Market after us. We already have enough problems with Shinra trying to sniff us out."
"I don't want anyone with me, I can do this on my own. I told you because I trust you. And if you trust me you will let me do this."
The one arm man stood silent looking upset but his eyes reflected concern.
"Barret. Please. I promise I'll be fine. You know I can take care of myself."
"I know you can. It's the fact that I might never see you again. I...We already lost SOLDIER boy under my watch."
"What happened to Cloud wasn't your fault. As much as I want to keep blaming myself I can't. Because it wasn't my fault either. He would be upset if he finds out I was blaming myself. That's the kind of person he is. Play hero, save lives, save the day. It's what he trained for."
"I can't stop you. You made up your mind. Just please, try to come back. Don't let that son of a bitch touch you or anything."
"I won't give him the chance. I'm bringing my weapon and materia."
The man gave her a hug and she accepted. Ruby has been right about him. He's rough on the outside but a big softy on the inside. Similar to Cloud.
"So you'll leaving tonight?"
"That's what they said. They will return to Corneo with the news and they'll be picking me up in the evening."
"I guess that's it then" the man walked to the door opening it.
"Barret?"
He turned back to her.
"Don't tell anyone. Okay?"
"I won't."
Leaving, closing the door and walked down the stairs Barret was in thought. Too bad the brawler never made him promise not to tell anyone. He grinned, like he will let her go alone.
To be continued
-Using Emma to be the one to reveal the truth of Reactor 1 destruction is something I planned from the start. It should be obvious an ex-journalist seeking unbiased info will be able to get her hands on secret surveillance from the reactor room and eventually the record footage of Shinra destroying the core.
-I think Barret knew Tifa leaving for Wall Market. I'm sure she told him of her plan. I find it hard he will let her go just like that. He must know who Corneo is and what kind of place is Wall Market. Anyway he knows in this story.
-Replying to reviews:
*Dragon lord Syed 101- if you're talking about Aerith definitely. I will also give credit to Brit Baron who voiced Tifa. Honestly her voice and performance blew me away. Square Enix outdone themselves picking the English voice actors. They all did an amazing job.
TheEmeraldMage- always happy to know how much you're enjoying the story thank you.
Rwby65- I got tire of saying it so many times. The story IS NOT mine it belongs to warrior of six blades. He's the one that writes the chapters and send them to me. I only upload them. I haven't gotten a message from him in months. So it's hard to know when he will update the story.
-keybladelight- I already know how the events of the Honeybeen inn will go out you will seen soon. As for Tifa getting drunk I guess I went for a more realistic turn. I didn't like that they didn't show Tifa's reaction after forcefully parting ways with Cloud. She wasn't happy to the point that Barret had to carry her out of Reactor 5. But I wanted to see more how she was going to take it. So I thought that she will go as far as to drink her sorrows away which is not a good idea.
-Starwing1995- I don't know without motivation and inspiration I don't think so.
-calderoneric758- a combustion semblance sounds awesome. I might be going with this one thanks a lot.
-Jebes4781- thank you very much.
-fernandamichelleraya- yeah I think it's right to always have friend whenever you're going through a tough situation. Jaune and Ruby were doing what their hearts were telling them with Tifa. And also I think Ruby knows what she needs to do, explore her newfound feelings for the Arc.
-Gabriel443- gracias y no te preocupes todos tenemos nuestros tiempos de estar ocupados.
-Siegnir-ditto the Airbuster boss fight is among the top fights of the game along with its soundtrack. Thanks for sending me your ID. If I do pull for a gacha I'd rather have a lot of crystals and even that I never lift my hopes up I've been wanting to get Theresa Celestial Hymm and Rita Argent Knight for so long. Still no luck. Then they introduced Durandal's Bright Knight S rank suit and now it's Herrscher of Thunder Mei. It's so frustrating.
-Saint Saber Fang- good luck with the new job and stay safe too.
-As always thank you very much for the favs, follows and reviews I really appreciate it.
