Anna eats meals brought to her in her room at the castle. After a week, Elsa allows Anna to join her for breakfast in the family dining room. A guard is always on watch. Anna doesn't recognize any of them.

After 3 weeks of Anna's obedience, Elsa allows her to sit in the small library downstairs so she might read to fill her time. A guard is always on watch.

After 4 weeks, Elsa allows the village chaplain to visit Anna in the castle. They meet in the library; door open; guard on watch. They meet twice a week for two weeks. Sometimes Elsa joins them for tea. The queen seems happy as he and Anna defer to her wishes with many compliments.

After 5 weeks Anna is allowed into the castle gardens. She is always watched by a guard. She picks flowers for her sister. She often spends time sitting on mossy stones near the duck pond. The guard does not notice that the number of stones often changes.

No one seems to notice the new stone columns leading up to Anna's window. One morning Anna asks Elsa if she might stay in her room.

"Are you ill, my darling? What can I do?"

"No, Elsa. I feel fine. I am just a bit tired. You have been wonderful to let me visit the gardens and the library. I enjoy when we share our meals." She caresses Elsa's cheek. "I'll be better than ever later today. I promise."

The queen tangles her fingers in Anna's hair and pulls her in for a kiss. Her attentions to her sister have grown rough. It is harder for Anna to pretend she accepts such things.

Once the queen leaves Anna's room, the princess goes to her window. She picks up a yellow handkerchief and waves through the bars on the window so it can be seen from below.

The two new stone columns are suddenly studded with hands and feet. Two men use these to climb the columns like ladders to reach Anna's window. One is Kristoff. The other is the chaplain.

Anna reaches out through the window to clasp hands with Kristoff. She begins to cry softly. Kristoff kisses her hand and caresses her palm. He whispers endearments in a voice still raspy and low.

The chaplain begins. "We are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in the bonds of holy wedlock. This is not an endeavor to the taken lightly..." A rock below him clears it's throat loudly. "Ah, yes, let's get to it, shall we? Do you Kristoff Bjorman take Princess Anna of Arendelle as your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, to honor and cherish, until death do you part?"

"I do."

"Do you, Princess Anna of Arendell take Kristoff Bjorman as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, to honor and cherish, until death do you part?

"I do."

The chaplain looks to Kristoff. "I don't suppose you have rings?"

Kristoff shakes his head but suddenly the columns begin to undulate slightly. A hand rises up in front of Kristoff. On it are two rings made of woven vines and set with glowing crystals.

The couple exchanges rings with more pledges of love.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride...if you can."

Anna and Kristoff kiss through the bars of the window. They clutch hands. Tears flow freely down Anna's face and Kristoff whispers love and promises.

The temperature drops and a frigid wind blows through the courtyard. Elsa launches herself towards the columns of trolls in a fury of hail and snow.

"What have you done!" She screeches.

The columns begin to fold, lowering the two men to the ground.

Grandpabbie faces Elsa, seemingly unfazed by the surrounding storm.

"Her love has been redirected," he says calmly. "She is no longer yours to use."

Elsa's howls cut through the roaring wind as Kristoff and the chaplain are held tight to the trolls to keep from being blown away. The queen rages on. "So now you have unleashed my controls! You cannot stop me anymore! Eternal winter will return and it will be your fault!"

"Elsa," Anna cries. "You don't have to do this!"

"Why couldn't you love me?"

"I do love you! I fought for you. I ran after you. I put your needs above my own." The storm's fury continues.

"Elsa, I died for you!"

Elsa stares wide-eyed at her sister. "What?" She hesitates in a moment of confusion.

"Elsa, I turned to solid ice because of you! I jumped in front of a sword to save your life!" Her tears have since frozen on her cheeks. "You threw me down a mountain. You shut me out at every turn! You locked me away like a prisoner!" She stared down into Elsa's eyes. "Which one sounds like love to you?"

The queen's face grew dark. "I cared for you! I love you and only you! But if this is how you repay my love, then join your friends' destinies!"

A boulder of ice and snow smashed through the bars of Anna's window. Hands of wind dragged her outside.

"Anna!" Kristoff cried out.

Suddenly the wind released Anna and she plummeted down. A pile of mossy capes broke her fall. Kristoff ran to her and helped her stand on wobbly legs. He embraced her tightly. The trolls formed a circle around them.

"No!" the queen shrieked. The storm continued to build. The queen suddenly noticed that there was a sphere of calm if the middle of her storm. Kristoff and Anna were untouched by the wind. Ice and snow fell around them but did not touch them. The trolls' crystals glowed brightly, as did Anna and Kristoff's rings.

"True love will thaw, Elsa," stated Grandpabbie. "They are united in love. Your powers cannot hurt them as long as they are together."

Winds twisted and swirled around the couple. Tendrils of ice tried to pry between them and failed to find purchase. Snowy vines tried to pull Anna away. Kristoff held tight to her and the snow simply fell away.

Slowly the couple began to move towards Elsa. The storm increased in intensity but still it did not reach them. Finally they were close enough for Anna to reach out and touch the queen's arm.

The storm died down then disappeared completely leaving tumbled cobblestones around the courtyard and the twisted iron bars from Anna's window.

"No," whimpered the queen. "Please, Anna."

Anna took Elsa's hand while Kristoff kept hold of the princess, his wife. "I still give you my love, Elsa." Anna gently reached up and stroked her sister's cheek. "But I cannot allow you to take it by force."

The queen fell to her knees and wept. "Please, Anna," she whispered. "Don't leave me. You said you would love me forever."

"You are my sister. I will always love you but I won't spend any more time behind a locked door."

"I never meant to hurt you."

"I know."

Elsa stood and held her arms open in supplication. Kristoff kept an arm around Anna's waist as she stepped forward and held her sister in a gentle hug. When Elsa tried to kiss her, Anna pulled away. Elsa's face betrayed pain and despair. Her shoulders sagged.

"I'll aways love you," Anna said.

"And I'll always be here," replied Elsa.

Elsa's took a deep breath then stood up in regal posture. She placed her hand over her heart. "I will always be here for you, Anna."

There was a sudden burst of light. Ice whirled over Elsa's skin in fractal patterns.

"No! Please, Elsa, no..."

Anna watched helpless as her sister turned to a statue of flawlessly clear ice.

"She froze her own heart," said Grandpabbie sadly.

"Isn't that an act of true love?" Anna asked. "Will she thaw?"

"I'm afraid not, child. Hers was not an act of love. It was an act of fear. An act of sadness. And certainly an act of possession over you. Possession is not love."

Anna buried her face in Kristoff's chest. She cried while her husband held her.
