After a long day at work Emma was met with a text message from her very mosey roommate.

Emma smiled at her phone, she didn't have anything else to do today. Maybe she could drop by and see Regina. She waved goodbye to her coworkers and headed to her bug. She knew where Acoma street was, she often was called in to patrol the area because random people were parked in the residents spot way too often. It was in a neighborhood of Denver known as The Golden Triangle. The Golden Triangle was one of the most wealthy neighborhoods in Denver. A 1 bedroom apartment there would cost at least 3 months worth of pay for her. So the rich residents weren't t keen in having a lowly Honda where their Porsche or Tesla should be. Regina must still be loaded, not that that ever really mattered to her.
"Is this a good idea?" She thought out loud as she started driving.
It had been a long night. Decade long secrets told. Feelings resurfaced (but to be honest had they ever really left). Maybe Regina had just said those things to cure a guilty conscience? Maybe she really meant it? Either way Emma knew one thing, she wanted her best friend back.
It was a short drive to Acoma street. She parked in the employee section of the particular apartment building, as everyone knew her as the cop that gave them a break every once in awhile.
"Officer Swan! How are you today?"
She smiled at the security guard and waved, "Amber, how many times have I told you? I'm flattered you thinkI'm an officer, but I'm just a police technician," she laughed.
Amber laughed, "Well Technician Swan just doesn't sound as cool."
Emma nodded and chuckled, "I guess you're right. How's your wife doing?"
"Great! She's super excited to meet our donor next month. You finally decide to settle down yet?"
The blonde shrugged and blushed a bit as she ran her hand through her hair, not answering the question.
"Ohhh, ok ok. I got my answer. Don't have to tell me. How can I help you today. You don't usually come inside."
Her blush died down and she cleared her throat and fixed her shirt, "I'm just here to check on a resident."
"You know the number?"
She nodded, "815."
Amber raised an eyebrow as she looked the name up on her computer, "Do you know the resident? Because, I like you Emma but I can't just let you inside without a warrant?"
"Technically you can let me inside the building but not her apartment. Also I'm not authorized to do things like that, as I am just a Police Technician. But you don't have to worry, I'm not here on police business, we're old friends."
"You know Regina Mills?"
"Mhm."
"It's policy to call up any visitors, so I'm just going to try and reach Miss Mills now."
"Thanks."
She waited as Amber used the intercom to reach Regina's apartment. It rang for a bit, but eventually she picked up.
"Yes?"
"Miss Mills, I have visitor down here for you. Just need you to validate."
"A visitor? I wasn't expecting anyone."
"Hi Regina," Emma quickly interjected.
"Emma?"
"Would you like me to let her up?"
"Yeah, er um- I mean yes. Let her up."
"Will do," Amber hung up the intercom, "I guess you were telling the truth. I was just surprised. Miss Mills doesn't usually get a lot of visitors. In fact the last one was her husbands ranking officer above him. He came to comfort her, but that was years ago. Happy to see she actually has some friends. Go right on through Officer Swan."
"Thanks Amber," Emma was buzzed into the building and headed to the 8th floor.
She reached 815 and stood at the door for moment to regain composure. She took a deep breath and raised her fist to knock, but it opened before she could.
"Sorry. I couldn't wait any longer."
Emma smirked and shrugged, "I should've been faster."
Regina giggled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "Please. Come in. Come in."
She stepped inside and immediately took in the size of the apartment. It was huge, much bigger than her and Mary Margarets. Regina's fingers grazed her sides as she attempted to get around her.
"Would you like something to drink? I've got water, juice, no soda unfortunately. I try to keep Roland away from sodas," she offered as she lead Emma to the living room.
She sat down on the couch and turned to Regina, "Water's fine."
"Coming right up."
Emma waited and watched as Regina got her a cup of water. She looked down at her feet, and played footsie with herself but stopped when he heard a sound coming from a door to her right. She looked back up and saw Regina filling up her cup. She looked to her right and there was a little boy peeking out from behind a door.
She smiled at him and waved. He waved back, cautiously.
"Roland," Regina stated as she walked in with Emma's drink and handed it to her, "Come here baby, she's nice."
With a finger in his mouth, he quickly shuffled over to Regina. She bent down to his level and he wrapped his arm around her a neck and leaned his head against her shoulder as she got up to sit near Emma, "RoRo, honey, this is Emma. Mommy's… Uh friend."
She gave him a kind smile and stuck her hand out for him to shake, "Hi Roland, it's nice to meet you."
He looked to Regina, who gave him a nod and nudge. He reached for her hand and gave it a slight shake before he retracted back towards Regina.
"Sorry Em, he's a little shy," she said rubbing his back soothingly.
"It's ok. It's good to be weary of strangers kid. Good job."
He smiled, "Thank you."
His mother Kirk led her nose and rubbed it against his cheeks, "Wanna stay here with me or go back and play with your toys?"
"I wanna stay with Mama Gina."
Emma smiled at his voice, and his name for Regina.
"Do you mind?"
She shook her head, "No, not at all."
"Thanks. So first thing's first," she said positioning Roland on her lap and giving Emma a smile, "How did you find out where we live?"
She opened her mouth to answer but frowned soon after, "You know what? I don't really know. My roommate sent it to me, but I have no idea where she got it from."
"Hmmm," she replied as she brushed Rolands hair off to the side, "I might have to have a little talk with this roommate of yours. I've gone through quite a lot of trouble to make sure Roland and I have our privacy, but I guess she can't be too bad if she brought you here to me."
"Yeah. I guess so," she said with a goofy half smile, "She grows on ya. Her optimism and peppiness. It balances out my, whatever I am."
Regina laughed, "Don't go and tell me you've fallen for your roommate now have you?"
"What? Me and Mary Margaret?" she scoffed, "Never. Besides she's got herself a longterm boyfriend.Your everyday run of the mill Prince Charming."
"How cute," she said trying to hide her disgust. She never was one for the whole fairytale analogy thing.
The blonde laughed as she turned to the child in Reginas lap, "Your mother used to love the Renaissance. She could talk of Kings and Queens for days. Used to run my ear off of medieval times. With their nights and dragons, and all that sort of stuff. I don't know what happened, but what about you. Do you like dragons little Prince?"
He smiled and nodded eagerly, "Mama Gina reads me a bedtime story every night. The dragon is lost and and and can't find his way home. He cries but a wizard comes to help him find his way home to his family."
"Is that so? Well that sounds like a great book. Maybe I can hear it sometime," she said as she stuck her hand out for a fist bump.
He stared at her fist curiously before looking back up at her and then to Regina.
She laughed and took one of his hands in hers. She balled his hand into a fist and guided it to her hand.
"Boom!" she imitated a bomb and earning a laugh from the boy himself.
"I like that."
Emma winked at him and sat back into the couch, "All the kids do," she looked back to Regina, who was smiling at her, "What?"
"You're good with kids. I never would've guessed."
She shrugged, "Well this is your kid. I can't very well bully him," she joked.
Regina was not amused.
"Sheesh. Relax Gina, it was a joke. Truth is, once I stopped being a kid, they started to become more bearable. Cute even."
"Well my little Roland here is as cute as they come."
"I changed my mind. Can I go play with my toys now? I'm bored."
Both women laughed.
"Sure baby, go on ahead," she set him down and let him go to his toys. She turned back to her guest and clasped her hands, "So where were we?"
She shrugged and laughed, "I just wanted to see you. Debrief after last night."
"I'm assuming you remember everything right? I feel like that's one of the things that probably didn't change about you."
"You're correct."
"So what's there to debrief?"
The blonde shrugged, "I don't know. I just feel like we both skipped over a large gap of our lives when we were catching up. I heard you ran for Congress at one point."
The heiress chuckled, "I did. It was fun little spurt of politics on my part."
"How was it? Did you meet the president or someone cool?"
"No, nothing like that, I saw him a couple of times tho. At dinner and galas."
"What about college? I always thought of going, for the party experience, but ultimately my hatred for all things school pushed me away."
Regina rolled her eyes, "You liked school. You loved learning. You just hated teachers and authority. How's that going for you? Working as a Police Technician at the station?"
She shrugged, "You win some. You lose some."
Reginas laugh radiated throughout the room. Emma felt it surrounding her and it made her so… Happy? Relaxed? Cathartic? Whatever it was, she liked it.
The brunette smiled and brought up her legs up on the couch to rest her forearms on, "Doesn't sound like the Emma I know."
She swirled her water around and sighed, "Yeah. I guess New York Emma Swan is different than Colorado Emma Swan."
A frown appeared on Regina's lips, "Again, really sorr-"
Emma waved her words away, "I didn't mean to say that, like that. I know you didn't- I just. You don't need to be sorry. I'm sorry I worried you for so long."
She was glad to see Reginas frown turn right side up.
"I was fine. I could always take care of myself, financially at least. I was never in any real danger. I was worried, but it's not your fault that I was. I just wish I had known- you know what? Why don't you just tell me. I know you got transferred to Boston but what happened in Boston?"
"Oh God, not much really..."
