Drama Queens
Hello, I hope you are having a good day. This was suggested by a guest. It's Hannah- Drama Queens- post series. Enjoy.
Hannah was at church helping a group of ladies decorate the church for Reverend Matthews' 10th anniversary at the church. She walked in and saw five older ladies already working.
"Sorry, I'm late. It was busy at the general store." Hannah said.
"Excuses. Always excuses. Your generation is never on time." Rose exclaimed. Then she sighed. "Well, you're here. Start decorating."
Hannah sighed and put the box on one of the tables.
"Not there. That box is dirty and I've just spent the past 5 hours scrubbing all these tables. Move it." Laurie yelled.
"Sorry." Hannah sighed as she moved the box to the floor.
"Not there either. I've been on my feet all day sweeping this floor. My back hurts now. Can't you ever show an old lady some mercy?" Rose ranted.
"I'll sweep it up when I'm done."
"You'd better."
Hannah looked away and rolled her eyes.
"This is going to be a long day." Hannah mumbled.
"What did you say?" Rose questioned.
"Just that it's a nice day outside."
"What does that have to do with decorating the church?"
"Nothing."
Hannah grabbed a roll of green streamers.
"I thought we agreed that we'd do red and white not green." Rachel challenged.
"You all agreed that I could whatever I wanted for the colors. I said that I'd do green, red and white. The Reverend's favorite color is green." Hannah explained.
"Well, I guess it'll do."
Jill and Mavis were in the kitchen decorating the cake.
"Mavis, you spelled Reverend wrong." Jill exclaimed. "It's Rev, not Rav."
"That is an E. You just can't read." Mavis spat.
Hannah sighed and started to hang up the streamers.
"Not there. That's where the banner's going." Laurie stated.
"Then I'll put that up first." Hannah answered.
"You'd better let me do it. Knowing your generation, you'd never get it done right, and then we'd have to fix it for you."
"I can do it. Besides, you really shouldn't be on a ladder. You could fall."
"Well, you may be right."
Hannah put the streamers down and grabbed the banner. She held it up and let Laurie tell her when it was straight.
"Lower the right side a little more." Laurie said. Hannah did. "Raise the left a little higher." Hannah did as she was told and she could tell that the banner wasn't straight. Then Adam walked in.
"I have spent all day sweeping these floors and now you walk in and track in a bunch of mud. Can't you ever do something right? Haven't I done enough?" Rose ranted again.
"I'll sweep it up. Besides, my shoes are clean." Adam replied.
"Adam, is this banner straight?" Hannah wondered.
"Nope. You need to lift the right side and lower the left."
Hannah did it and looked behind her at Adam.
"Like this?" Hannah wondered.
"Yep." Adam answered. Hannah taped the banner and Adam helped her down.
"What did you need?"
"Uh, the keys to the truck and to ask if you have the grocery list."
"Yep."
Hannah went to her purse and pulled out both of the items.
"Thanks. Brian dropped me off, but he needs the jeep and not all of us can fit in the jeep." Adam said.
"Here you go." Hannah sighed. She handed Adam the list and the keys and saw a cut on Adam's right hand. "What did you do?"
"Oh, we had to fix a fence and the barbwire caught my hand. It's fine right now."
"How deep is it?"
"Not too deep. Crane cleaned it and treated it. I'll be back in a few hours. Good luck. I know you need it."
They kissed and Adam walked out of the church.
"Men, they're never careful. They always get hurt." Rachel spat.
"Adam's not too bad. He's usually careful. Sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you are, you can still get hurt." Hannah answered. They went back to work, but it was one thing after another. The five older ladies were constantly whining and crying. Hannah couldn't wait for the party to be over so she could go home and rest. The constant bickering was wearing her thin.
"Mavis, the cake looks terrible. Why did you even bother to make it?" Jill exclaimed.
"Because no one would make it right." Mavis answered. "Besides, it's fine. Oh, my poor hands. This arthritis is murder."
"Ms. Mavis, did you even ask? I know if you had asked Marie or Sophie Barton, they would have made the cake for you and would have even decorated the cake." Hannah explained. "Rose, you complain whenever someone walks in here. Adam and I offered to sweep but you still complained. All of you throw fits about every little thing. Then you turn it back to yourselves. Do you know what you are? Drama queens. You exaggerate everything and you're selfish. You wonder why no one wanted to help. It's because you belittle them. No one wants to hear your lies. You say that my generation is lazy. They're lazy because you did everything for them. You never gave them any confidence so they gave up. We can't do anything right. It's because you never taught us. We're not all alike. No matter what anyone does, you'll still whine and complain and that's wrong. You know it. You pride yourselves on knowing your scripture. What does the bible have to say about people like you? It says a lot. I encourage you to go look."
Then Hannah went back to work.
"I'm done with the cake. Where should I put it?" Mavis asked.
"Put it in the fridge till it's time for the party." Rose suggested.
"I can't. There's not enough room."
"Well, make room."
"What about the fruit and veggie platters?"
The two ladies continued to bicker and Hannah sighed.
"Drama queens," Hannah mumbled. "Too blind to even see the solution two inches in front of them."
An hour later, Adam and the other brothers arrived with the rest of the food.
"Look at you boys. You're making a mess of the floor!" Rose yelled.
"We'll sweep it up. Besides, the party will be starting in half an hour." Adam answered.
"Well, put the food on the long table." Rachel sighed. The boys did and Rachel looked at the dishes in disgust. "Are these the best dishes you had?"
"Yes, they are."
"Well, I guess they'll have to do."
Adam grumbled under his breath and Hannah giggled when she heard Adam call them drama queens.
"I've tried to rebuke them, but they're old and stubborn." Hannah sighed.
"Let's see how they behave when reverend Matthews is here." Adam answered. They sat down at one of the tables.
"What are you doing? We still have work to do. This place is a mess."Jill yelled.
"Reverend Matthews isn't going to care. Besides, it'll be a mess when everyone arrives."
"Adam, can you help me blow up the balloons?" Hannah wondered.
"Yeah. Sure." Adam sighed.
"We're not doing the balloons. Every time we do, the children play with them and pop them." Laurie sternly stated.
"Actually, last time it wasn't the kids. It was reverend Matthews. One of the balloons had confetti in it so he popped it on his son's head."
"Well, it's noisy and none of us want to hear it."
"Well, they can go pop them outside."
Adam and Hannah blew up the balloons and tied them up. People started to arrive and soon Reverend Matthews walked in and everyone surprised him.
"This is wonderful. Thank you, everyone." Reverend Matthews thanked. "Now, socialize while I greet everyone." Matthews walked over to the five drama queens and smiled. "How are your hands, Mavis?"
"Oh, reverend. The arthritis is just horrible." Mavis answered.
"Well, thank you for such a wonderful cake, but next time, let someone else do it."
"Yes, reverend."
"Laurie, how are your hands and feet?" Matthews asked.
"Oh, the pain is agonizing, reverend." Laurie replied.
"Well, sit down and relax. You work too hard."
Matthews looked at Rose and smiled.
"What about you, Rose? How is your back?" Matthews wondered.
"I can hardly stand. I've been slaving away all day sweeping and cleaning." Rose explained.
"That's a job for someone younger. You shouldn't have done all of this. Now, what about you, Rachel? How is your hip?"
"Oh, it hurts, reverend. It hurts so much. You'd think that people would sympathize with a hurt older lady." Rachel complained.
"Have you tried to ask nicely? People will help if you ask nicely." Matthews reminded.
"I will remember to do that."
"Good. What about you, Jill? How are your eyes?" Matthews wondered.
"Oh, terrible. I can't see a darn thing anymore." Jill exaggerated. "I've spent all day cutting veggies and supervising."
"Well, you should learn to delegate. There are plenty of young people who could have helped."
Matthews walked over to Adam and Hannah.
"Hannah, you did a wonderful job decorating. I imagine it was difficult working alongside some of the ladies." Matthews said.
"It was, but I did learn a few things." Hannah answered.
"Well, I was wondering if your family wouldn't mind taking over for those ladies. They won't like it, but they do listen to me."
"Our pleasure, reverend."
Then they heard Jill and Mavis fighting again.
"Oh dear. In all my life I haven't met anyone as dramatic as them. They're real..." Matthews trailed off.
"Drama queens?" Hannah guessed.
"Yes."
"I know. Trust me."
"I can imagine."
Matthews walked away.
"Drama queens. The world is full of them and all you can do is bite your tongue even when it bleeds." Adam sighed.
"Well, I'm done biting my tongue. What do you say we go get something to eat?" Hannah sighed.
"Ok."
I hope you like this. Well, we are done with the Ds and are onto the Es. Continue to send me prompts from letters J through Z.
