Chapter Twenty-Three
The hospital…
After two hours of labor, Robin finally gave birth to a healthy baby girl and she was utterly exhausted, as she still did not know what was going on with Don and Amita and if they were alive. Luckily for her and everyone else, they did not have to wait for long for some news about their rescue.
After the delivery, a nurse told Charlie that a phone call was waiting for him, who turned out to be Megan, who told him that they were on their way with Don and Amita in the ambulance.
"Are they okay?" Charlie asked, worried about his brother and wife, and what their physical and emotional states would be.
"They are alive," Megan said quickly, "But Don is in rough shape, though stable and Amita is trying to stay calm but she has been through a lot in the past couple days and she hasn't left Don's side."
"Can I talk to her when she gets here?" Charlie asked
"You will be able to after they get here statement from and the doctors examine her for anything else."
"Thanks Megan, you, Colby, and David, I owe you guys for keeping my family whole and letting my dad help with this case." Charlie said as he felt tears coming out of his eyes.
"How's Robin?" Megan asked anxiously
"She's doing fine, she gave birth to a baby girl." Charlie said, now having more tears coming out of his eyes.
"Did they name her yet?" Megan asked, mostly out of curiosity.
"Yeah, Don and Robin came up with a name in case it was going to be a girl, her name is Anna Margaret Eppes."
"Good name." Megan said, with her tired smile coming through her voice, adding:
"Don is going to be happy to see her when he wakes up."
"Oh, I know that he will be giddy with joy." Charlie said, forcing himself to laugh a little now that he knows Don is alive.
"Don will be okay, Charlie, we know how tough he is." Megan said, trying to reassure her friend
"I know but it was really close, Megan." Charlie said
"It was but we can now relax for now since it is over." Megan said, trying to be optimistic
"Somehow, I wouldn't be too sure about that." Charlie said, thinking that something else was going on with this whole case.
There has to be, as it didn't seem that the kidnappers weren't acting alone and Charlie vowed to himself that he will help them figure it out.
