Lexie pulled away from Mark. She had asked for his honesty and she had gotten it.
"You don't feel obligated to propose to the mother of your child when she's the love of your life."
Lexie stopped. She didn't know what to say to that.
Mark continued. "Because when you propose to her, and you will propose to her, you want her to know that you are doing it because you love her more than anything, because you can't imagine your life without her, not because she's carrying your child." He approached her slowly, taking her hand.
Interlacing their fingers, he gently pressed his forehead against hers. "I am not going to propose to you because you are pregnant with my child. Because when I do propose, it will be out of love. I feel no obligation towards you, because I consider myself so incredibly lucky to have the chance to love you."
He took his free hand and placed it gently against her cheek as he closed the gap between their lips. "Alexandra Caroline Grey," he said as they broke apart, "I am going to love you for the rest of my life. Not because we have a child together, but because you are the most beautiful, intelligent, caring, and amazing person I have ever met, and I don't want to spend my life without you."
It was Lexie who kissed him this time. As they broke apart she couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "If that was your idea of a marriage proposal..."
Mark smiled. "Don't worry Lex, I fully intend to be the 'down on one knee' type of guy when the time comes."
Smiling, Lexie pushed him back towards the bed. It had been far too long since the last time they had been together, and she had no intention of wasting another moment.
