LONG LIVE THE KING
MELISANDRE
She stands on the balcony of her room staring up as a comet flies across the dusky sky. "Dragons." One of her Acolytes says into her ear.
"Yes the unbelievers have bought Dragons back into the world…"
"My Lady shouldn't we…"
She looks at him and goes quiet, "First he must be King…When the Usurper returns we shall strike." Robert had gone West to find what became of his wife and children. "The Gold Cloaks are they with us?"
"Yes My Lady. As you said, that fool Janos could be swayed by Gold."
"And Renly Baratheon?"
"Give the word and it will be done."
"Do it."
Just then another one of her servants enters her chambers, "My Lady…Forgive me for barging in."
"Nothing to forgive what is it?"
"Jon Arryn has left King's Landing."
"How?"
"By one of those blasted metal steam ships."
"He knows." The first Acolyte says.
"It does not matter all will bend the knee before our Prince and our god." She leaves her room to hold the nightly fire ritual in the main courtyard. Many people had converted to her teachings. "Lord of light…cast your light upon us…For the night is dark and full of terrors."
Those gathered repeat her words. "The Night is Dark and full of Terrors."
"The Long Night will come and with it the dead. The Lord of Light has chosen Stannis of House Baratheon to deliver us from this evil and bring the Dawn." A few days later Renly is found dead in his room. His death blamed on the Targaryen loyalists.
ROBERT
He returns to the Capital to find a dead brother. "I want agents sent to every corner of Essos to find that Bitch Daenarys. I want these Targaryen Loyalists found as well…I want them all dead!" He says enraged sitting on the Iron Throne." Jon Arryn has abandoned him, betrayed by Ser Barristan Selmy who he should have killed instead of showing mercy to. Jaime Lannister, his wife missing, and their children missing. His supposed to be friend had gone back North. Robert sent a rider to fetch Ned to make him his Hand. As he waits he comforts himself with a woman. Unbeknownst to him the woman entertaining him is an acolyte of Melisandre.
STANNIS
The bells ring announcing the death of King Robert Baratheon. He suffered a heart attack while with a woman. In truth her lips were laced with a poison that mimicked heart attacks. "With his death your reign begins my King." Selyse says to him in the Sept of Baelor. Cersei and her bastards had fled, so there is no one standing in his way as King and with Renly gone the Lords of the Vale will obey him. A week after Robert's death Stannis calls the Banners of House Baratheon. When his army is in the Capital Stannis sends out Ravens demanding that the Great Lords of Westeros come to King's Landing and pledge their fealty to him.
As he, waits for the arrival of the Lords Stannis names Ser Davos Seaworth Hand of the King. He names his wife's brother Lord Axell Florent Master of ships, her other brother Ser Imry Florent is named Lord of the King's Guard, Courtney Penrose is named Master of Laws and he legitimizes Edric Storm. Now he is known as Prince Edric Baratheon. Mace Tyrell, Lord Hoster Tully, Jon Arryn, Tygett Lannister, Lord Eddard Stark, Theon Greyjoy, and Balon Greyjoy, along with many Lords of the Crownlands come.
"Lord Tygett….where is your brother Lord Tywin Lannister." He asks. All the other Lords had sworn fealty one at a time. Tygett is last.
"My brother is not coming Your Grace…I came to represent House Lannister and keep the peace."
"If I must I will strip your father of his titles and name Lord Tyrion Warden of the North and Lord of Casterly Rock."
"You are King." He replies.
"I thank you all for coming, but it has come to my attention that a group known as the Targaryen Loyalists are trying to put the Targaryens in power. I know some of you may have even given your support to these people. As such you all will remain here as my guests. With the exception of Lord Balon Greyjoy. Your son Theon will ward with me from now on. Lord Eddard Stark, I know Jon Stark is your nephew by your sister and Rhaegar…You will be my prisoner until Jon Stark surrenders himself to me."
"This is outrageous!" Hoster Tully says, "We came to you in good faith and this is how you treat us!"
"This is how it will be! You all will send letters to your families explaining this." Later Eddard Stark is bought before Stannis.
"Lord Stannis."
"Be careful Lord Stark I am your King."
"My King is Aegon Targaryen the Seventh of his name." They stare at each other, "Tell me something King Stannis…" He says King in a mocking tone, "Did you command the Red Woman to kill your brother or did she do it without your knowledge?"
He keeps his face and emotions in check, "Robert died of a heart attack."
"You are not the Prince that was Promised. No matter what that woman told you."
He was not expecting this, "And who is that bastard born of rape you dare call King?"
"Rhaegar did not kidnap or rape my sister. She went with him willingly."
"Last chance Lord Stark…Where is he?"
"I know not and even if I did I would not tell you."
Stannis gives Eddard Stark to the Red Woman. She uses a drug to question him, "It is as he said my King. He knows not where the false King is."
"Am I he?"
"My King?"
"Am I the Prince that was Promised?"
"You are! Born of smoke and salt, he shall come forth, the Prince that was promised."
He didn't know if he believed her or not. He had Targaryen blood and he was born amongst smoke and salt as the prophecy said, but she had not told Stannis the entire Prophecy. Born of Smoke and salt, born of Fire and Ice, he shall come forth to save the world from the Long Night and bring the dawn.
DAVOS
"I think we should send half the fleet home your Grace." Ser Davos says in a meeting with the small council.
"And I disagree." Axel Florent says.
As Hand of the King Davos has to deal with jealous Lords because he is an upstart Knight who is now Hand of the King. "Enough! For now we will keep the Fleet and the army at full strength."
"Your Grace we need food…The best place to get it is the Reach. They would hardly be willing to cooperate with Lord mace Tyrell being held here."
"As my guest." They discuss other matters of state and are dismissed. A few weeks later Olenna Tyrell shows up demanding to see her son. When she is satisfied that he is doing well, she agrees to send food to the Capital.
"Father! Father you must awake now!" His son Dale says shaking him.
"Dale? What is it?"
"That Red Woman…She has taken a hundred men and attacked the Sept of Baelor."
"What?" He asks jumping out of bed. Melisnadre had taken a hundred of the most devout followers of R'hllor and led them to the Sept of Baelor to kill the High Septon and all the Saptas. Later Ser Davos meets with Stannis and Melisandre. "The people are on verge of rioting!" Davos yells.
"I…"
"I did not command the massacre of those priests!" Stannis yells, "You go to far woman!"
"Forgive me my King. But it is your destiny to save us from the Long Night and to show the unbelievers the power of our god."
"How do we calm the people?" Stannis asks.
"Publicly condemn the actions of those who carried out her orders and have them executed in the name of the Seven." Davos says.
"I gave the order…It is I who should be executed…by fire." Melisandre says.
Stannis stares at her, "No…"
"It will be the only way to appease the people."
A few days later Melisandre is bought to the steps of Baelor. "I Melisandre…High Priestess of R'hllor…Did without the King's consent order the deaths of the High Septon and those who serve in the temple of the Seven. I offer myself willing to the will of the people."
"The Lady Melisandre has confessed her crimes and King Stannis of House Baratheon is innocent of the crimes against the faith of the seven. It is decreed by his Grace King Stannis, that Melisandre be burned alive at the stake."
The people cheer as she is tied to the stake. Then Ilyn Payne takes a torch and lights the fire. Melisandre jeweled choke collar glows brightly as her clothes. She does not make a sound as the flames engulf her. The people gasp as the flames belch a stream of fire that goes into the temple and severs the heads of the Seven statues. When the fire dies many people fall to their knees converting to the Lord of Light.
