Angel: Okay, slowly getting back on track with past requests...and as much as I love Tangled, I do not have the comic series for the show. I've been meaning to get it, but money is tight right now. Anyway, this takes place in a different universe where Anxelin, Ruby, or Reid don't exist, but everything else canon has happened. Basically an AU of the epilogue from Sisters' Tangled Adventure in technical terms XD
Summary: Rapunzel has a little girl Lilly and has a nightmare about Gothel.
It's been a little over a year since Rapunzel became queen and Eugene the Captain of the Guards. Both of them had their work cut out for them, but they always made time for each other. Rapunzel made certain decisions with the help of her younger sister and her parents, who usually have helpful advice. The first major one was appointing Harmony as a co-queen, a first in the history of Corona. While skeptical of this choice initially, the young brunette accepted eagerly. Rapunzel and her sister had been through so much together that she couldn't imagine ruling without her sister by her side.
Last time they heard, Cassandra was still searching for her destiny, but she sends a letter every now and then to check up on things. And her father is helping her as well.
Adira, Edmund, and Hector were getting closer to finishing up the rebuilding of the Dark Kingdom. Eugene still visits them from time to time, sometimes with Lance.
Max is still helping Eugene with the guards in his rightful place as Eugene's number one guard and partner.
Varian and Harmony were still together, their relationship still strong. They had recently returned from their honeymoon after their wedding. Kiera and Catalina loved being their legally adopted children, and having the run of the castle (that is, with the promise that they don't break or mess with anything). Catalina still had the werewolf's curse, but was getting better at controlling her emotions and speaking up about them. Kiera started to listen to her sister more, and tried a little bit to not be bossy. She still pertained her personality, however.
Quirin still does father-and-son projects with Varian, and sometimes Harmony joins in too.
Staylan and Morgan have found love, and the four are traveling together to see the world. Staylan is with Brock Thunderstrike, and they didn't know who Morgan was seeing, but they were told that he looks a lot like Varian.
Vex has done so well with being Quaid's deputy that he's thinking of promoting her to co-sheriff, similar to how Rapunzel appointed Harmony as co-queen of Corona. Vardaros is back to its former glory, though having criminals around does make it more fun. And they've even taken up some of Corona's traditions, such as the Goodwill Festival (albeit not in a way Rapunzel would like it) and the Day of Hearts. Well, they call it the Day of Insults to make it more them. Both her and Morgan make the occasional visit to see Harmony and to catch up every few weeks. Morgan and Vex have also made up and are as thick-as-thieves again.
One day, they were thrilled to hear amazing news from Eugene and Rapunzel a few months after they were married.
"Guys...we have something exciting to tell you," Rapunzel grins, looking up at her boyfriend.
"More exciting than Eugene getting a new hair cream?" Harmony raises a brow, earning an annoyed look from Eugene as they laugh.
"Hey, it makes my hair have more volume than less-attractive-than-me guy with the man-bun," He narrows his eyes in disdain at the reminder. Thankfully Andrew is still in jail with his New Saporian pals. Sometimes Eugene goes down there just to tease him, even when Rapunzel had told him to stop. He can't help it sometimes.
"Anyway," Rapunzel drawls out, bringing attention back to her. "Eugene and I...are having a baby!" She pats her stomach, to the shock of everyone in the room.
They erupt into cheers and surround the couple, and they give their friends and family hugs.
Soon after news broke out, it was all anyone talked about. Friends from all over sent gifts or letters of congratulations, rooms were being prepared, inventions were made (after being tested, of course), and people came over to see them. More often than when it was a day to talk to the king and queen. Not that Rapunzel didn't mind all the attention, since to her it showed just how sweet Coronans could be. They even threw her and Eugene a surprise baby shower a few months later, and they found out that they were having a baby girl.
And then after that came the mood swings, and that was when everyone ducked for cover. As optimistic and friendly Rapunzel is, she was pretty scary during that part of her pregnancy. She was always throwing things and screaming and crying...that was definitely a rough week.
But then came the question of whether or not Rapunzel's child would even have the powers of the sundrop.
"I don't...really know how to answer that," Harmony states cluelessly, glancing at her boyfriend out of the corner of her eye. Both of them are sipping cocoa in front of the fireplace in Harmony's lab, talking to Rapunzel and Eugene.
"Well, um...you see, uh..." Varian stammers to the curious parents.
"Yes? No?" Eugene asks expectantly. While the two know about the sundrop, they were not experts in genetics. That was definitely Harmony and Varian's area.
"I just sometimes wonder if we have to prepare for that kind of thing," Rapunzel speaks up. "We'll still love her, just like Mom and Dad love you when you had just your moonstone powers. Maybe I can teach her how to make her hair glow! I can't wait to tell her all of our adventures like Harmi does with Kiera and Catalina."
Sometimes the co-queen tells them bedtime stories of the things that they missed out on either before or after they met. Such as being cursed, Vardaros, and Varian's decision to become friends with Rapunzel again.
"And since we're not the science nerd—I mean experts," Eugene corrects himself sheepishly. "We thought we'd come and ask you two! We all clearly know that she'll have good looks like me," He wiggles his eyebrows and Harmony stifles a laugh.
"Well, Rapunzel was the sundrop first," Varian rubs his chin, putting down his cup of cocoa. "And the same applies to Mona with the moonstone whenever we have children," Harmony chokes slightly upon hearing that, looking at him in alarm. "Uh, not that I think about that!" He blushes deeply in embarrassment. "I-I mean-"
"A-Anyway," Harmony stammers, brushing a bang behind her ear. "You gave the sundrop and the moonstone to me after we combined them. Essentially, I'm both of them right now since you gave up the sundrop..."
"But she's been the sundrop for a long time without knowing it," Eugene points out.
"Correct, and she healed you when she lost her hair," Varian points at him. "The components of the sundrop flower might still be in Rapunzel somewhere and she might not know it. Similar to how we found out that the sundrop flower no longer has its components. Or she could inherit it from Mona since you're in the same generation."
"Yeah. Things like this tend to skip the older generations," Harmony nods along with her husband. "Like a child having a specific hair color that their parents don't have. Or it could be gifted to her like with our cousin Elsa."
"So...what you're both saying that it's hard to tell for sure until Lily is born," Rapunzel says slowly. "But the sundrop and the moonstone are both in our bloodline."
"Yes, and technically Mom's since she was healed by the sundrop flower," Harmony tells her, taking another sip of cocoa.
"You've already thought of a name for her?" Varian looks at Rapunzel, who smiles with a nod.
"I wanted to give her a flower name...so that no one would forget all of our adventures together," She smiles in memory. "And it did all start because of the sundrop flower, so...it should end with the sundrop flower. So we talked and we picked out the name Lily."
The two scientists smile at her fondly. "Lily's a great name. And it is a great way to remember all the fun we had," Harmony looks to Varian.
"Mostly fun," He corrects her, coughing awkwardly. "Being hit with skunk spray while you were cursed definitely does not fit into that category."
"I'm sorry," She smiles sheepishly, sweating a little. "I still feel bad about that..."
"Don't feel too bad, Brownie," Eugene tells her. "After all, you're not called G-Bug," He says the name with disdain, causing everyone to laugh.
The fateful day came and then Lily was born. Everyone crowds around Rapunzel's bed, Pascal clasping his hands together in glee. Daisy chirps happily as they look down at a blonde princess with long hair like her mother used to have and light brown eyes like her father has.
"She's so beautiful, dear," Arianna smiles at the newborn child.
"She looks so much like you," Frederic is trying not to get emotional at his first biological granddaughter.
"She does, huh?" Rapunzel kisses Lily's forehead, Eugene wrapping an arm around her.
"We have a cousin to play with!" Kiera grins at her, earning a look from Harmony. "When she's old enough to, I mean."
"Time's a-wasting, you two," Lance nudges Harmony and Varian, who both glare at him.
"We'll have...plenty of time to have a child!" Varian rubs the back of his neck nervously. "But congratulations, you two."
"Thanks, goggles," Eugene smiles at him.
"Harmi...would you like to do the honors of holding Lily first?" Rapunzel looks up at her. Harmony blinks, pointing to herself.
"Me? Oh, I'd love to..." She's handed Lily and the baby giggles, her hair glowing...
"Ah, I'm so happy for Eugene and my sister," Harmony states happily as she and Varian are in her lab that night. They're painting a late gift for Lily, a painting of a garden to hang up in her room. "I wish they'd stop teasing us about having children though..."
"Yeah, um...Mona, I've been thinking," Varian puts down his paintbrush, getting her attention. "That, um...I think that we're ready to have another child...biologically."
"We have Kiera and Catalina. Aren't you worried that they'll get jealous or something?" Harmony smirks in amusement.
"They'll have another sibling to play with," He shrugs a little. "But I feel like that...it's time, you know? And I really want us to be happy too!" He grabs her hands, rubbing his thumbs against her palms. "But if you don't feel the same, then I'm willing to wait for you to make that kind of decision."
"Vari," She smiles softly, pressing her forehead to his. "I want to. I know that we'll be happy with another kid...so we'll start trying."
He blinks and chuckles happily, pulling her into a happy hug. She smiles, hugging his neck. "I love you, you know that?"
"Yes, yes I do," She grins slightly.
Rapunzel and Eugene are asleep together in bed as Lily is in her crib that's a hand-me-down from Arianna and Frederic. They let Lily have her mother's old crib since she has golden hair like her mother did before she cut it. It seems that Harmony and Varian were right because it was discovered that Lily does have powers of the sundrop. After doing some safe, non-lethal tests, it was determined by Varian that Lily has the power to heal (something Rapunzel lacked while being the sundrop due to touching the black rocks), bring someone back to life, and create solar energy like her aunt does already.
Rapunzel seems to be having a bad dream as she squeezes her eyes shut.
It was dark as everyone in the castle was asleep. Lily was sleeping in bed in her own room as a shadow loomed over her.
A cry was heard, Rapunzel and Eugene sitting up. "Lily!" They both shouted, scrambling out of bed. They rushed over to her room to find...
Mother Gothel. Old, but alive.
"Gothel?!" Eugene blinked in shock.
"No...you...you fell out of a window!" Rapunzel pointed to her in shock. Harmony and Varian ran into the room, gasping as they froze in place.
"You of all people should know...Mother. Knows. Best," And with that, she jumped out the window with Lily.
"NO!" Rapunzel shouted as she rushed to the window. She turned to Eugene. "Wake up the guards NOW! All of them are to pursue Gothel!"
"Right," He nodded, kissing her cheek and running off.
"How is she alive?!" Harmony held her head in disbelief.
"I thought she...you know," Varian sliced a finger in front of his neck. Rapunzel stood up, clenching a fist.
"I don't know, but she is NOT getting away with my daughter. Go get Silver. Max!"
Max pushed past the teens in alert and she jumped on him. He ran out of the room and down the hall. Varian and Harmony rushed out after them.
Eugene was leading the way, holding a lantern as they followed after Gothel. "Over there!" He pointed at the black horse Gothel was riding. She was holding Lily with one arm, controlling the reins with the other. Lily cried, her hair flying.
"Hush, child!" Gothel hissed at her and then when they passed over the stone bridge, she turned around to the others catching up. "You shall never see your daughter again!" She threw a torch and it broke, setting the bridge on fire. The horses stopped in alarm and Rapunzel looked in horror as she heard the cries of her daughter get further and further away...
Rapunzel sits up in alarm, panting. She rushes out of bed and checks over the crib, where Lily is peacefully sleeping. She sighs in relief slowly.
"Oh...it was just a dream..." She sits nearby the crib just to watch her daughter sleep. Eugene sits up, smacking his lips tiredly.
"Blondie?" He rubs an eye, looking at her. "Everything okay?"
"Eugene..." She whispers, and when he stands up, she hugs him. He looks at her in surprise. "Nightmare...Lily...Gothel..."
"Hey, hey," He whispers soothingly, hugging the blonde. "It's okay, Rapunzel. Gothel can't hurt us anymore. No one can hurt us anymore. And we'll get through this whole parenting thing together."
"...What if we don't, Eugene?" She looks up at him. "Besides that whole kid...thing during our trip to the Dark Kingdom...are we really ready to do this? What if we can't protect her on our own?"
"We're not on our own. We have your parents, your sister, my dad, Lance...a lot of people willing to help us. We can do this, Sunshine. I know we can."
He kisses her forehead and she smiles. "Thank you, Eugene. I love you."
"I love you too, Rapunzel." They turn to Lily and just watch for a while...
