Marinette stood in front of the mirror in her bed chamber, looking at her reflection. She wore a white dress with a silver collar and cape adorned with precious stones and upon her head was a circlet which was connected to a veil. It was her wedding day and she had always dreamed of this day. She would wear a wedding gown that she had helped sew and design herself with her ladies in waiting, all of her subjects would attend to see her, the wedding would take place in the same church where her parents had wed, and her beloved father would walk her down the isle and give her away to the man she loved with all her heart. She dreamed that it would be the happiest day of her life. But it wasn't, it was the saddest day of her entire life.
"You look very beautiful my lady." Said the hand maid who had dressed her.
"Thank you." She sighed. "But I don't feel beautiful. I don't feel anything but heartbreak."
Marinette wished and prayed from the bottom of her heart that this dreadful marriage would not take place. What would her father say once he returned to France to learn that his only child had married a monster and that her horrible uncle was now king? He would be heartbroken. But this marriage had to take place for it was the only way she could ensure that innocent people would not be killed. As a king's daughter she had to put the lives of her people before her happiness.
"Everyone is waiting for you my lady." The hand maid said.
She looked down at the bracelet in her hand. The one which she had given to the man who truly held her heart. The man who she believed to be dead and would never stop loving even though she was to be wed to another.
"I am ready."
Without another word. she followed the hand maid out of her room. Meanwhile the palace guards were put on high alert, guarding every entrance of the castle to ensure that no one would get in and ruin the ceremony.
"So Prince Xavier is going to be crowned King of France today right?" One guard at the back entrance said to another guard.
"Aye, he is."
"Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this treason?"
"I don't know. All I know is if we don't do what he wants he'll chop off our heads and I have three kids."
Suddenly a foggy mist began to fill the room.
"Who's there?" One of the guards asked.
No answer and the mist kept getting thinker. Next thing they knew the candles in the room were snuffed out making it very dark. The guards held up their weapons, waiting for potential danger to step out. They heard foot steps.
"Show yourself!" The guard demanded.
A match was lit and it was held up to reveal Adrien who was white all over, as white as paper with black bleeding down from his eyes.
"I am the ghost of Adrien." He said in a deep, depressing voice. "I have to come to avenge myself by dragging those who assisted in my murder to hell."
Believing that this was indeed the angered and vengeful ghost of Adrien, the guards dropped their weapons in shock.
"The red hot gates of hell are creaking open!" He said. "Satan is heating his pokers for you! Fall down on your knees and beg for deliverance from damnation!"
"Oh please spirit!" The guards pleaded as they fell on their knees. "We beg your forgivness! Spare us! We had no choice! Our lives were at stake!"
"If you wish to earn my forgiveness and to be spared from my venegeful wrath then you will perform two acts for me."
"Anything!"
"First you will release your prisoners who were arrested for failure to pay taxes."
"What?" One of the guards said. "We can't do that! We'll lose our heads!"
"So you fear man more than the devil?!"
"No! No! No! We'll do it!"
"Good. After that you shall return their money to them."
"Return their money? But the prince will-"
"Whatever the prince will do to you is nothing compared to what Satan will do to you! Defy me and you shall face him and his firey wrath! I can already the imagine the horrible screams that you men will cry out as he makes you suffer!"
The guards jumped to their feet and immedately ran to the dudgeon as fast as they could. Once they were gone Adrien burst out laughing as he had been struggling to keep his laughter under control the whole time he was pretending to be an apparition.
"Aww man! It's amazing what you can accomplish with flour and black ink." He chuckled.
"I must say Adrien you are one very convincing actor." Fu said coming out from the curtains. "You had me shaking a little."
"Well if you ask me it was those herbal mists that really sold the illusion but we're not done yet. We have plenty more guards to try this bit on. I just hope that they're all superstitous enough to buy it."
They were. Adrien and Fu pulled the same ghost charade on nearly every palace guard they came in contact with and he made the same demands. Some of the guards did as he said others just took off screaming without hearing his message but nevertheless, all the prisoners were freed and given their money back.
"Free the prisoners who were captured from my camp!" He told the last guard he encountered.
"That's impossible!" The guard said while trembling with fear. "They've already been taken to the gallows! They'll all be hanged any minute now!"
"Uh-oh!" Adrien thought. "Now what?"
"Very well then you should just...Leave!"
"Alright! I will!"
Adrien wasn't sure what to do now. The hanging was taking place outside, in the sun light so without darkenss he couldn't really sell the illusion that he was a ghost. What would he do? How would he save his comrades?
"Adrien I just heard from one of the guards, the excecution and the wedding are taking place at the same time." Friar Fu said.
"Great. As if this couldn't get anymore difficult." Adrien said.
"How are we going to keep this inconspicuously?"
"I'm sorry Friar but I don't think we can inconspicuous on this one. It looks like we're going to have to crash a wedding and an excecution at the same time and believe me it will draw a lot of attention."
"Oh dear." Fu said. "May god give us strength."
"My thoughts exactly now let's move."
