At some point, Kat must have fallen asleep. She woke up to find herself lying across three chairs. Hale's coat draped over her like a blanket. Her head was resting on his leg. His hand lazily running through her hair.

'Hey there, sleepyhead' he smiled down at her

'What time is it?' She asked, her voice groggy with sleep

'Three-thirty in the morning' he replied 'Go back to sleep'

'Are there any updates?' Considering that Kat was able to sleep, she knew nothing major had happened. Hale shook his head.

'Bobby came by to check on us, but you were sleeping. He didn't want to disturb you'

Kat sat up, shaking her head to get rid of the sleep. She stretched, hearing a satisfying click as she did so.

'I'm going to go for a walk'

'Do you want me to come with you?' Hale got up to join her

'It's fine' Kat placed her hand on his shoulder, stopping him. 'I'm just going to get some fresh air. I'll talk to Marcus whilst I'm out'

'Kat-' Hale tried to interject.

'I'm not going to run, Hale. I'm needed here'

Satisfied with her answer, Hale sat back in his chair.

'Tell Marcus he can rest. God knows one of us needs it'

Kat stood just outside of the hospital. It was chilly this morning, well, what did you expect at 3 am. She surveyed the surroundings then moved around to the car park where, under a lamppost, the black limo took up several spaces, as she approached, Marcus stepped out.

'Any news, Miss?' He asked. Kat shook her head.

'Hale said you can rest. You've done plenty. Thank you Marcus'

'Forgive me, Miss, if I decide not to. I feel that I am needed here' he bowed his head slightly.

'Thank you. I know Hale will appreciate it'

'Forgive me, Miss, for speaking out of turn' Marcus began 'but has Mister Edward's hospitalisation had anything to do with the conversation we had earlier?'

Kat sighed, leaning back against the car.

'It's complicated, Marcus. You shouldn't know all the details'

'Then may I point out that the silver Mercedes across the road was at the house yesterday and has been here all day' Marcus's tone had no warning, no cause for concern, just somebody pointing out a fact. Kat casually glanced in that direction. It was a sleek, expensive car. Someone powerful was inside.

'Marcus, I'm going to go over there. If I don't come back in 5 minutes, call Hale'

'Miss-'

Kat didn't wait for his response, she strode across the parking lot as if she was heading back inside. Kat knew Marcus wouldn't chase after her, but he'd follow her orders.

Kat crossed the road and approached the silver car. She tapped on the driver's side window. It rolled down slightly. It was a hired goon, the bald, pierced, will-eat-you-for-lunch kind of look.

'So…' Kat leaned against the car 'this is the part where you inform whoever you're working for that I'm here to see them, or you drive off in a cloud of mysterious dust not to be seen until another week or so' Kats attempt at humour didn't work. She rolled her eyes 'come on mate, it's freezing'

The guy didn't react to her. He just rolled up his window. The back door opened. Kat, without glancing back over her shoulder at Marcus who was bound to be watching, slid into the car.

'Hello Katarina' it was the raven, haired boy. The boy who seemed to be everywhere and anywhere she was. 'How's uncle Eddie?'

'You don't get to call him that' She snapped. The raven-haired boy just smirked

'But we're family Kat. He's uncle Eddie to me like he is to you and our darling cousin Gabriella' his smile never wavered. He had her pegged.

'How about we go for a little drive?' He offered. Then, the car began to move.

'You don't let a girl say no, do you?' Kat retorted. The boy next to her laughed

'You don't take no for an answer either. Guess that's a family trait'

Kat shivered at the thought of them being blood relatives. She would find things in common with him.

'Oh how rude of me' he smacked his forehead dramatically 'I'm Tobias' he offered his hand. Kat stared at it. Tobias withdrew his hand. 'I must admit, everything my father said about you doesn't do you justice'

'Is that meant to be a compliment?' Kat raised her eyebrow

'Of course' he smiled 'the legendary Katarina Bishop, one of the finest thieves that ever lived. Your mother would be so proud'

'Don't talk about my mother. You know nothing'

'I know more than you think I do' His smile transformed into a smirk. An eerie smirk Kat had seen on a much older man.

'How is Anton?' Kat picked a piece of fluff off of her skirt, trying to act as casual as possible.

'He's around. Been looking forward to a family reunion'

'Well he's going to have to wait a little longer' Kat snapped. She sat forward 'Why did he steal the painting?'

'Why does any thief steal?' Tobias retorted, tilting his head, waiting for Kat to explode

'He is no thief. He's a traitor'

'So you've been told. There's always more than one side to every story' Kat remained silent. Tobias' eyes widened 'You don't know the whole story, do you?'

'Take me home' Kat folded her arms. Defiant. Tobias tapped the partition glass.

'As you wish'

Kat felt the car turn around. They descended into silence.

'You know' Tobias began 'I thought you'd be taller'

'I get that a lot' Kat sighed in boredom.

They didn't talk for the rest of the journey. When they pulled up outside the hospital, Kat jumped out of the car, slamming the door behind her. Marcus was nowhere to be seen, probably getting Hale.

'Oh, and Kat' Kat stopped and turned to see Tobias's eyes popping out of the dark car.

'Be careful, or history may repeat itself'

'What do you mean?' But before Kat could get an answer, the car sped away. Kat watched it disappear down the street.

'Who was that?' Her father appeared at her side.

'Someone who knows way more than we do'
