Chapter 10 – Sunset's Spotlight
"Welcome to this year's fashion show! Tonight you will see the wonderful designs of our new prodigies. So sit back, relax, and let the fashion show begin." On cue the lights went off and the runway music began. The catwalk lit up as the models to strut and show of the designers' artworks.
"First up, we have our spectacular design made by our WDA princess, Courtney Deveraux. A dress that could only seem fit for royalty." Courtney was in stunning red princess dress with a short front and long back with ruffles made of satin. The top part of the dress was an off shoulder giving it an elegant look.
After Courtney had presented hers, one by one the designers showed their works, all equally stunning… but of course the judges' faces were neutral compared to their expressions with Courtney's. Everything simply amazed the audience. A sudden change of atmosphere drew their attention to the next designer.
"Next up is one of prodigies tonight, Paul!"
Violet stared at the runway as the model walked to the stage wearing a big black coat covering the clothes designed by Paul underneath. The audience were least to say confused by the sudden appearance. Everything made sense when the model walked to the center of the runway and twirled as she removed the black coat to reveal the most stunning design. It was a elegant lavender blue gown with a thigh-high slit that was almost unnoticeable with its ballgown form. The judges were in awe and it was safe to say that they loved it. The dress was simply amazing that it could definitely be a rival for Courtney's design, judging by Courtney's reaction it was impressive. Violet could probably see steam coming from Courtney's ears out of annoyance.
"And last but certainly not the least is another one of our freshmen prodigies. Ladies and gentlemen, give a round of applause to Violet Parr."
Three days ago…
"So what's our plan?" Penny asked ready to begin creating a new dress for the fashion show. They all agreed to help Violet create a new dress in order to make it in time. They only had three days to prepare so Violet's friends were eager to start, unfortunately Violet wasn't.
Violet knew what Penny meant, they were supposed to start working today. All they needed was a new design but Violet regretfully hasn't made any. "I don't have one." She answered.
"What?!" the three exclaimed.
"Don't you have a design ready?" Hiro asked, worried about the time they only have left.
Violet sadly sighed, it wasn't that she doesn't have any designs. She made plenty but none of it compared to the dress she made for the fashion show, "I… the dress that was ruined was my best one…"
"Can't you just pick one of your designs in your portfolio?" Wilbur was slightly frustrated. The girl had hundreds of designs on her laptop. She could easily just pick one and they'd get to it already.
Violet stayed silent. She couldn't say anything. Her friends even went out their way to help her. But after what happened to her dress… she was scared. "…"
"That settles it then." Penny said as she stood up and grabbed Violet's wrist and dragged her out of the manor.
"Where are we going?" Violet asked. Penny didn't answer her. Hiro and Wilbur simply followed the two. They all hopped on to Wilbur's car. Penny told Wilbur the directions and Wilbur drove off.
"A pier?"
They were indeed at a pier. But it wasn't a normal day at the pier. The town was hosting a carnival. Colorful images were all around. Streamers and balloons decorated the place. There were plenty of booths and fun games at the scene. The screams from the people at the rollercoaster to the children laughing at the clown's joyful antics were heard.
"Come on." Penny pulled Violet's arm to the entrance.
"But I have to work on my design." Violet didn't have time to slack off. Though the carnival seemed to be fun, but the thought of the deadline was rushing through her head.
"Trust me. You will." Penny said.
Violet looked at Penny. She had no idea what the girl was up to but somehow she knew she could trust her words. Penny pulled Violet towards the carnival entrance once more and the dark-haired girl was reluctant but followed her red-headed friend.
The pier was incredible. Colorful. They watched a parade together. They saw a few parade floats with different themes in them. One was an underwater theme with different sea creature floating around, and it had a mermaid with red hair sitting inside a giant clam shell. Another seemed to be winter wonderland, it was pure white forest with fake snow falling. In the middle of the float were two young women, one with platinum blonde hair wearing a striking blue dress and one with strawberry blonde hair wearing a purple dress. Between the two women was a snowman waving to the crowd. It looked a bit weird but in an adorable way.
They went to all kinds of ride the pier had to offer. The rode the bumper cars; the boys were realer eager to ride and had a little competition. They already expected Wilbur to be competitive but what surprised them was Hiro. Though the boy was usually calm and reserved, he can sure be competitive if he wanted to. Both of the boys tried to hit the other with their car as much as possible. Unfortunately for them, they didn't expect Penny and Violet to get their revenge and hit the boys so hard they ended up spinning across the rink until their time was up. Needless to say they wouldn't mess with the girls any time soon.
Next they went to the ride with the giant spinning cups. It seemed to be a simple ride. They sat down in one of the teacups. The ride started and the machine was slowly twirling the cups around it and moving them up and down as they go. After the wild ride in the bumper cars, it was a good rest for them. While they were riding, Penny was curious about the odd looking steering wheel in the middle of the cup. What was it for? They assumed it was something they should hold onto for safety even though the ride was already seemingly safe. Penny grabbed onto it. She noticed it being a bit wobbly and tried turning it. The cup spun slightly. She tried turning it again. The cup spun again. So that's what it was for. Thinking it was fun, Penny grabbed onto the wheel and turned it as hard as she could. Penny, not knowing her own strength… might've spun it too hard. It was a good thing they didn't a lot during breakfast.
"AHHHHH!"
"PENNY! WHAT DID YOU DOOOOO!"
"Soooooorrrrryyyyyyy!"
Violet squeezed her eyes shut wishing it would stop spinning soon. Penny and Wilbur were holding on to their seats and their lives. Hiro was turning a bit green. Not a good color. Thankfully before anything disastrous and gross occurred, the ride had stopped. The four got out of the ride, but were unable to walk straight for a minute or two...
They decided to rest on one of the benches for a bit, feeling the life drained out of them. A few minutes later, they somehow got rid of the nausea and dizziness. A sigh of relief came from the teens. But Wilbur's relief was cut short when a tall clown suddenly appeared in front of them and offered them balloons. Wilbur jumped from his seat, freaked out by the appearance of the clown.
This didn't go unnoticed by the others. "Scared of clowns Willy?" Penny teased him.
"N-no!" Wilbur immediately denied and rested back to his seat.
"Aww… there's nothing to scared of, it's just a friendly clown giving out balloons." Penny said as she accepted the balloon the clown had given her.
"I wasn't scared! I was just surprised. That's all!"
"Uh huh…" Penny snickered, "I'm gonna get some ice cream, you guys want any?"
"Sure! I'll go!" Hiro stood up and followed Penny. The thought of ice cream seemed to be the cure for his nausea.
"I'll stay here. I don't think I should eat anything now." Wilbur said as his stomach churned, "I don't I can."
"Okay see ya later. We'll also buy some water for you guys."
Wilbur no longer replied, instead he gave them a thumbs up. And with that Penny and Hiro headed to the food court. Violet was feeling a lot better and seeing the numerous game booths, she wanted to try to play some while she waited for Penny and Hiro to return.
Violet looked at Wilbur who was still laying down on the bench with an arm covering his face. Not wanting for her friends wonder where she went, she tapped on Wilbur's shoulder to tell him. "Wil…" No response. Was he sleeping? Nope. "Wilbur!" Violet shook Wilbur's shoulder which forced the teen to response.
"Whaaat…" Wilbur said in annoyance.
"I'm gonna check out some booths." Violet answered.
Wilbur rolled his eyes and scoffed, "Do whatever you want." He turned to his side facing away from Violet wanting not to be disturbed again.
While walking around the booths, Violet spotted a big blue weird looking stuffed animal. Violet went to the booth and paid the guy who then gave her three baseballs. He explained to her she had to throw the balls to the virtual batter without having the batter hit the ball. It was basically virtual baseball with Violet being the pitcher. Violet threw ball after ball but only one ball made through. The sensor in the game was too fast. Only a professional could make a perfect score in that game. "Aww…" Violet frowned in disappointment. She was about to leave when someone slammed a few bucks on the table. Violet looked up and realized it was Wilbur.
"Give me three." Wilbur said. The man brought out the same number of baseballs. Violet thought there was no way he could do it. But what they didn't know Wilbur had a professional baseball player of an uncle. As soon as Wilbur through the first ball, the machine shouted 'Strike One!'. Wilbur moved swiftly, no one even saw the ball being thrown across the booth.
"Fast!" Violet exclaimed in her thoughts.
'Strike Two!'
Onlookers began to surround the booth, watching the boy play the game and actually winning! Wilbur prepared to throw the last ball. It was like the whole place became silent. Once Wilbur threw the last ball, it was if time had stopped. Violet and all the onlookers all held their breaths and watch as the last ball flew slowly across the booth. And with a sound of a bell chiming, time was back to normal.
'Strike Three!'
Needless to say the crowd went wild.
"We have a winner!" The man in the booth proudly shouted as he gave the big blue alien-like stuffed toy to Wilbur.
Wilbur faced towards Violet and outstretched his arm holding the toy to her. "Here."
"For me?" Violet cautiously received the toy, waiting for Wilbur to take it back and taunt her but nothing came. Instead Wilbur walked away without saying anything. "… thank you…" Violet whispered.
Penny and Hiro had just bought their ice cream. The cold sweet treat relieved the overwhelming feeling of nausea. The two teens were then headed on their way back to Violet and Wilbur. The two decided to take the long way back and window shopped around the souvenir shops nearby. Most of the shops were themed to the carnival.
While walking Hiro noticed Penny had some ice cream left on her cheek, "You have something on your…" Hiro pointed to her cheek and Penny immediately turned red as her hair. Seeing Penny blushing was absolutely adorable for Hiro and made his heart pound. He watched as she rapidly try to wipe the ice cream off her face but ended up spreading it all over her face.
"Did I get it?" she asked.
Hiro laughed and shook his head in disagreement. He pulled her to a nearby drinking fountain and handed his ice cream for her to hold before soaking his handkerchief in water. He wrung the cloth out before turning to Penny. He cupped her face and wiped the ice cream off Penny's cheek with his handkerchief. "I got it." Hiro said as she showed her the handkerchief stained with ice cream. Hiro grabbed his ice cream from Penny. They were about to leave when they heard a girl shout, "Mommy… look! It's Penny!" Hearing Penny's name being called out attracted their attention to the source. It was a little girl with short red hair. She was with who seemed to be her mother, having the same colored hair as the girl, carrying a baby boy with blonde hair.
"Who?" the mother asked.
The little girl pointed at Penny, "The super spy from the TV!"
The woman recognized who her daughter was taking about, "Oh the one with the white dog? Are you sure?"
"Yeah! I wanna say hi." The little girl pulled away from her mother and ran towards Penny and Hiro before her mother could stop her.
"No— wait— Jane!" her mother called out but it was too late as her daughter already approached Penny.
"Penny! Penny!" the girl jumped up and down with excitement seeing her favorite character in real life. But in the girl's mind she was 'Penny' from the tv show.
The two teens were confused as the girl kept calling Penny's name. "You know this kid?" Hiro asked.
"Umm…" Before Penny could answer, the mother of the little girl had already caught up with her daughter.
"I am so sorry miss… my daughter loves this TV show and you resembled her favorite character and must've thought you were her." The woman apologized to the two teens.
Penny already had an assumption to what caused the confusion. But she needed to make sure and asked, "Oh? What show was this?"
"It's a kids' show called Bolt."
"Ah…" Bingo. The little girl apparently recognized her but it would seem the mother did not. It wasn't unusual for Penny to come across with a fan every now and then. It was still confusing since the show did use her real name, and people who she never met would suddenly call her name.
"Mommy It's Penny…" the little girl insisted.
"No, sweetie… she isn't. Now come on, let's not bother them anymore."
"But…" the kid looked very sad and was on the verge of crying. Penny decided to approach the girl.
"Hello, what's your name?" Penny knelt down.
"Jane…" the girl said
"What a beautiful name. You're a very smart girl. You managed to see through my disguise." Penny smiled at the girl and the girl smiled back.
"Does that mean you're—" the girl said with excitement.
"Shhh… I'll tell a little secret to you. Promise me not to tell anyone?" Penny gave a playful wink as she she played well— 'Penny' from Bolt. The little girl shook her head enthusiastically. Penny then continued her story, "I am on a secret mission to defeat Calico's daughter. Right now I am going undercover to investigate her plans. I need this mission to be a success so can you promise me not to tell anyone you saw me?" Penny stretched out her hand in a pinky promise to the little girl.
"I promise Penny." Jane said as she returned the pinky promise.
"Thank you for helping me out Jane." Penny said and Jane went back to her mother and brother.
The mother then approached Penny, "Thanks for your help. You know a lot about the show." She added.
"Well, it'd be weird to not know your own show." Penny gave another knowing wink before leaving the bewildered family.
"You're—" the mother spoke out loud, but the comment Penny gave was enough to confirm her thoughts.
"Bye!" Jane shouted as she waved goodbye, "Say bye-bye, Danny." She said to her baby brother.
"You handled that pretty well." Hiro complimented her. It was quick-thinking of Penny that it prevented any chaos to happen. The last thing they wanted was to make a little girl cry.
"Thanks."
"Not your first time I'm guessing."
"Nope."
"Must be hard… dealing with those kinds of stuff."
"At first, but I got used to it. That's the price for being in this industry. Besides I love my fans and my job."
A few minutes later, they finally returned to Wilbur and Violet who were anxiously waiting for them.
"Hey we're back!" Hiro shouted to the two who were sitting on the bench.
"Finally!" Wilbur commented as he was getting tired of waiting for the two.
"Sorry we got a little sidetrack!" Hiro chuckled, Wilbur didn't bother asking them why and simply accepted it.
Penny noticed the stuffed toy sitting beside Violet, "Wow Vi, that's huge!" Hiro wondered what the comment was about and looked across Wilbur's shoulder.
"Where did you get it?" Penny asked as she grabbed the odd looking stuffed toy. Hiro was amazed how got a great prize, he assumed it was from a game but in order to win such a prize, they must've been really good at it.
Violet pointed to where the booths were and answered Penny, "At the baseball game booth. Wil—"
Wilbur coughed loudly which interrupted what Violet was about to say. Violet noticed the sign and played along with it, "I won it at the baseball game booth." She took a mental note to ask Wilbur about it later.
After a few more games and rides, the four went to an area at the pier where there were a less people. They leaned on the fence and smelt the ocean breeze. A glorious sunset was at their sights. The final golden rays reflected on the ocean's waves. It was definitely a calming and peaceful sight. The four were silent for a few minutes.
"Thank you Penny." Violet said.
Penny didn't ask what for as she immediately understood her friend and left it at that. "I used to do this whenever I couldn't think or do a certain scene." Penny remembered all the time she was frustrated at her work "I just go for a walk. Take my mind off whatever's bothering me. As soon as I have a clear mind, I can do it."
Violet nodded, "I know what I'm gonna do."
Violet breathed deeply as she was about to face the crowd. It was nerve wrecking. It was her very first show. For the first time she was about to show the world her talent. Violet took a step forward through the black curtains. The music had seemed to have faded as she walked. She could only hear her footsteps. Then a flash of light. It was her time. Her moment. The spotlight was hers.
The music continued. The audience gasped as they saw her wearing nothing but a plain white dress. Mixed expressions filled the room. Did she not make a design at all? Was it a mistake? But Violet was unfazed and walked across the runway. In the middle of the runway, appeared a wall made of light. Effects of different colored bubble like shapes and glitter fluttered from the mysterious wall. Violet smiled with confidence as she slowly walked through the wall.
"Hey, you're allowed to make stunts right?" Hiro asked Violet who was sewing the fabric onto her design. The four had been working non-stop at the studio at Violet's club. The other members were all working at their stations at the backstage of the runway. Violet's club adviser allowed them to work in the studio since they were a group and Violet was redoing her design.
It was an out of the blue question, Violet didn't know how to response. "Stunts?"
"Like a presentation, you know adding visual effects when you walk down the aisle." Hiro explained.
Violet thought about the rules about the show and answered, "Well we are allowed to do things like spotlight transitions… we can use a different music if we'd like."
"Yeah but can you use outside resources? Like gadgets?" Hiro asked.
"Hmm… Well, designers can use different acts to portray their work. I heard that one of the designers used a drone to enter the stage once."
"Aha! So the use of robotics are allowed!" Hiro's eyes sparkled with excitement as a non-existing light bulb flashed on top of his head.
Violet was then beyond confused, "Yeah… but I don't get what you're trying to say. I don't plan on using a drone." Hiro was obviously planning something but what?
"I was thinking of letting you go with a bang!"
"How?"
"Simple… nanobytes." Hiro stated as if it was the easiest thing in the world. No, it was not simple at all.
The four had gathered around as Hiro explained his plans. A few speeches and technological terminologies later, and they finally somewhat understood what Hiro was planning.
"So basically you want me to out the stage with a plain dress and… these nanobytes will come and attach my design on me piece by piece." Violet said as she tried to make sense of Hiro's explaination.
"Yes… it will definitely give the element of surprise… especially to the one who ruined your dress. Your dress is already flawless, I have no doubt about. But a grand entrance will sure make people notice you more."
"You want to add salt to the wound." Violet sighed, "I told you guys, I don't want get revenge."
Penny placed a hand on Violet's shoulder and told her, "No. It's not revenge but you are showing them that you are a fighter. Showing them that you are strong and brave to face them."
"Okay." Violet sighed in defeat and smile. She knew there was no talking them out of it. Her friends obviously have made up their minds. "If it means that much to you."
A day later, Violet finally finished her design and Hiro finished the technology for the dress to reveal. A few bug fixes later and they were ready for the final test run.
"Oh my gosh Hiro! It's perfect! Amazing!" Violet said as she twirled around on her dress.
"Yup, nothing describes amazing like flying pieces of fabric." Penny commented as she patted Hiro on the shoulder to commend him.
"One last thing." Wilbur pressed a remote control button and a shimmering white holographic wall appeared.
"What is that Wilbur?" Violet asked.
"You have to go out with a bang remember?" Violet nodded. "Once you pass through the wall, it will signal the nanobytes to form the dress… and—" Wilbur wanted to explain but had a thought.
"And?"
"I'll leave it as a surprise."
As soon as Violet was through the wall, it had exploded creating a small firework of glitter and sparkles as her background. It was magical. So that's what the surprise was… It revealed Violet in a stunning, mermaid gown with a dazzling long train. It was a sequin patterned dress that flowed gracefully down. From afar, it seemed like a normal flowy dress but once the dress is worn by the models, it creates a studding effect as it reflects the lights almost like ocean waves during the sunset, it was inspired by the time Wilbur drove them to the beach when Violet was feeling down. The whole audience was in awe. They've never seen such a gorgeous gown that even people who weren't interested in fashion would certainly be amazed.
"Woah!"
"It's beautiful! Marvelous!"
"It's better that Courtney's design." One of the students said.
"I can't believe it but it is." Another student agreed. A number of similar statements were whispered throughout the room.
A few moments later the designers all stepped out and lined up at the stage where they all can be seen as they waited anxiously for the judges' decision. The top 3 were soon announced, it included Courtney Deveraux, Paul Adams, and Violet Parr. Many were surprised that two freshman managed to get into the top 3. It was rare for freshmen to win, the only one they remembered to have achieved this was a young girl who went to the academy decades ago and her name was Edna Mode.
"It's now time for the announcing of the winners." The host announced as she opened the envelope given by the judges, "The third placer will receive 150 house points. The first runner up will receive 500 house points. And the grand champion will receive 1000 points and will be invited to showcase their design to the fashion show of none other than Ms. Edna Mode in Milan. The first and second runner ups will also receive an invitation to watch the said gala."
"For third place…" The host announced after a short drum roll, "Paul Adams!"
Violet looked at Paul and noticed he had his head down for a short while, but Violet could feel the disappointed look in his face. Violet couldn't understand at first why considering he was in the top 3, but she soon realized how ambitious Paul was. From the very start, he was always so serious with his work but he was most of all passionate. This fashion show wasn't a simple event for him. He didn't just want to prove his talent in this show like Violet, he wanted to win it. Paul went in front of the stage to receive his awards.
"For the first runner up… Violet Parr!" the host announced but apparently Violet was still lost in her thoughts until she heard her name. She just won first runner up. She walked to the front to receive her award as well. She could hear her friends cheer for her.
"The champion is none other than Courtney Deveraux!"
With a smug look on Courtney's face, she gracefully walked to the stage and happily received her 'crown' being the queen bee that she is.
A victory speech from the winner and a short closing remarks later, the event has finally ended. Most of the people had already left. Violet had just changed her outfit to regular clothes. She sat on one of the benches backstage as she processed the tiring day- more like week- in her head. So many things had happened to her, and she was definitely thankful for everything. She was glad she had her friends who helped her all throughout. Without them, she'd probably never make it. Speaking of, her friends appeared running towards her.
"Violet you won!" Penny gave her best friend a big congratulatory hug.
"I lost actually." Violet said.
"Still, second place is not a bad thing especially for a freshman. You've made history girl!"
"Thanks guys."
"And here's for our winner." Wilbur and Hiro gave Violet two bouquets of flowers.
"Aww… that's so sweet. You didn't have to do that." Violet gladly accepted the bouquets.
"Don't mention it, besides a lot of people thought your design was better. Unfortunately Courtney has the unfair advantage of having 'connections'…" Hiro said. It wasn't entirely false but they know they shouldn't make assumptions.
"Hey… this calls for a celebration."
"Let's have pizza!"
"Good choice, I heard Pizza Planet had this new limited edition pizza."
The four walked out of the fashion building and went to the nearby parking lot to get to Wilbur's car. While on the way, they kept discussing about the fashion show.
"You know… Courtney might've 'won' but I think everyone knew in that room, Violet was the true winner." Penny argued. They were happy their friend made it to the top 3 but were still saddened by the fact knowing she should've won.
Hiro agreed and added, "I bet Courtney knew it herself… though I doubt she'd ever admit it." Violet didn't want to add anything. As much as she wanted to believe her friends, Courtney still won and Violet was content that she'd won second place. That itself was already a big deal.
Their discussion was cut short when something underneath their clothes immediately started to glow. They dug inside their clothes and reached for the pendant.
"Hey… what's going on…" Wilbur asked but all of them were as confused as the other.
"Our pendants…" Penny said as she stared at the glowing pendant on her chest. It felt like a huge weight was suddenly on top of her chest. Her breathing became deep and the others as well.
"Ha…" Violet noticed she was feeling cold as steam came out of her mouth. It was eerily familiar. They've felt this before. "Oh no…"
A fog suddenly formed in the lot. A gust of wind blew coldly. The trees and bushes started rustling. It was then it appeared. From the distance the dark shadowy figure emerged from the bushes.
"RUN!" And they did. As soon as they ran away the creature immediately chased them. "Get inside the building." They did and closed the door behind them. They hid behind the curtains on the stage.
"What the heck?!" Penny shouted and was immediately met with a hand covering her mouth.
"Shh!" It was Wilbur. He peeked to see the entryway. He saw the door they just locked open on its own. It revealed the creature entering the building searching for them. He knew they had to get away fast.
"It's the same thing that chased us before…" Hiro peered his head and saw the creature as well. It was looking for something… or someone.
Penny who had already removed Wilbur's hand from her mouth, whispered to the other, "What is that thing?"
"I don't know, but we have to get away from it." Wilbur said as he tried to look for a way out. They couldn't go back to the entryway. The monster was wrecking the place, tossing anything that comes within its path.
"Wilbur watch out!" Violet suddenly pulled Wilbur's arm and avoided getting hit by the table. The impact caused the curtains to fall. The creature immediately spotted them. They ran. They had no idea where they were going but it was better than getting caught by that creature. Wilbur saw that the fire escape was open. He immediately led his friends to it. The fire escape room was open but unfortunately when they reached actual fire exit door leading out of the building was locked. They had no choice but to head upstairs through the fire escape. They tried to run away from the creature and soon they noticed that they were headed straight to the rooftop. What's worse was that door to the rooftop was locked. The door handles were chained together with a rusty metal chain. Wilbur tried break the door open by slamming himself onto the door.
"Oh no…"
"What do we do now?"
"We're trapped!"
"We'll break down this door together on three… 1… 2… 3!" The four tried to break down the door but failed.
Violet thought of an idea and said, "Let's try it again."
"It won't budge Vi."
"Come on guys, we can't give up."
"Alright, on three.. 1… 2—" A shrill from the creature surprised them and saw that it was headed their way. "3!" The four slammed the door again but this time, Violet secretly casted a small but strong force field and it was enough to break down the door. The chain broke and the doors swung open.
Wilbur and Hiro immediately stood up and closed the door. They leaned against the doors preventing the creature from opening it, but the creature was strong as it kept hitting the door with great force, almost knocking Wilbur and Hiro out of the way. Penny and Violet looked for something to block the door. Penny saw a big metal rod. She and Violet carried it to the door and used it as a barricade. Luckily it was strong enough to hold the creature for a while. But they knew it wasn't going to hold on much longer.
"What do we do now?"
"Let's try to call the police!" Hiro brought out his phone but what shocked to what the saw, "No signal? How is that possible?!"
"I'll try mine." Penny checked her phone as well and it was the same status. "None…"
"Ours too…" Violet and Wilbur showed their phones as well.
"How is this possible? Our phones could be at the bottom of the ocean and could still get signal. How on earth is this happening?" Hiro was frustrated and scared as he paced back and forth. In this day and age, phones have definitely advanced to a point it was impossible to get a no signal.
"Maybe it had something to do with… that." Wilbur pointed at the door where the creature is forcing its way behind it.
Soon enough the creature managed to break through the door. They ran to the edge of the building. The teens stood there helplessly as the creature began to make its way to them.
It was then and there, Violet knew had to save her friends. It was the only way. "Okay! Enough is enough!" Violet charged at the creature barely hearing her friends call out to her. Violet casted an energy sphere and threw it at the creature.
"What the…"
"Woah…"
Unfortunately it barely made a scratch to the creature. Violet created more spheres and hit the creature. Violet noticed her powers did have an effect to the creature but it wasn't enough. She had to get her friends out of there. Using her powers she grabbed the creature and flung it across the lot. She ran towards her friends.
"Everyone! Jump!" Violet yelled.
"Off the building?! Are you crazy?!" Wilbur looked at her like she had grown two heads.
"Trust me!" Violet shouted in desperation. The three looked into Violet's eyes. She was serious more than ever. She asked them to trust her to jump off a building. Do you know the saying 'if a person told you to jump off a building would you do it..' ? Usually—Okay the answer was straight up 'No' why would anyone do it unless you were in a burning building and it was a fireman tell you to jump knowing you'd have a soft landing. That wasn't the case there. No fire but a menacing creature. No fireman but a teenage girl. No soft landing. The answer was supposed to be 'No' but in this scenario the answer was 'Yes'. They held each other's hands and jumped.
As they were falling, Violet casted a force field around them to protect them. Unfortunately, the dark shadow followed them and slammed itself to Violet's force field causing it to hit Violet in the process and crashing to the ground. They ended up tumbling on the grass as they weren't far from the ground when the shadow hit them. The impact still hurt and knocked them out unconscious. The sound of a cloth ruffling and a tall dark figure was all they could hear and see before their eyes closed.
"Aahh!"
"W-what…"
"Violet! Violet! Vi, wake up!"
Violet sat up, immediately gasping for air. Violet was looking around, her vision was hazy. A loud ringing sound was echoing in her ears. She was panicking. She wanted to scream. She could hear someone talking but she couldn't understand what the person was saying. Strong arms were wrapped around her body. Her head was pressed against something warm and Violet calmed down as she listens to the person's heartbeat. Slowly, her vision and hearing started becoming clearer. She could hear the soft and gentle voice telling her to calm down and she did. As soon as Violet stopped panicking, she slowly pulled away from the person's arms to see who it was. To her relief, she saw Wilbur looking at her with a gentle smile on his face.
"W-W-Wilbur…"
"Hey, you're okay…"
Violet looked around and noticed that they were in a very unfamiliar room. Everything was white. The walls, the ceiling, the floor. She was sitting on a bed similar to ones they used on hospitals.
"Am I…? Are we…?" before Violet could finished her thoughts, she turned to Wilbur and asked, "W-what is going on?! Where are we?!"
"I don't know, but help me wake up Penny and Hiro." Wilbur said. Violet noticed Penny and Hiro were also laying down on hospital beds still asleep.
"Are we…?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Violet. We're fine." Wilbur turned around to face the sleeping Hiro and began to wake him, "Hiro! Hiro! Wake up!" He proceeded to wake up Penny. "Penny… Penny… Wake up Red!"
Both Hiro and Penny woke up at the same time. Both were gasping and trying hard to breathe like they've both been revived from drowning. Wilbur and Violet immediate were there to aid them. Once they've calmed down, they immediately looked for a way out. There were no windows in the room. Only a huge metal door was surely the way out.
"What was the last thing you remember?" Wilbur asked.
Penny tried to jog her memory and said, "T-that shadow-thingy was chasing us then we jumped off the building and… I don't know…"
Hiro remembered something important, "Violet! Violet y-you did something! W-with your hands! You fought that creature!"
"I remember that as well… what… what are you, Violet?"
Before Violet could answer, the door slid open and they all became silent. Only the sound of stilettoes hitting the floor could be heard as a woman in a white lab coat walked towards them.
"Wilbur Robinson, Hiro Hamada, Violet Parr, Penny Forrester. I welcome you to Viper Rose." The woman in the lab coat said. The teens' eyes all widened in shock as they immediately recognized this person.
"Miss Genevieve?!"
A/N
M.A.: Hello again.
Wilbur: Told ya it was gonna be epic!
M.A.: Uh huh… move over Wilbur. (pushes Wilbur away from the screen)
Now I know, there's a lot to process in this story. First I wanna ask if you've noticed ANY of the Disney references I've made. Spoiler Alert: THERE'S A LOT. I felt like I haven't placed much Disney cameos/references, I honestly don't know if I can do that in EVERY chapter but every now and then I might add a few here and there…
And now for a disclaimer: I do not know much about techy stuff even though I'm an IT student… it's not my field of expertise okay! I based Hiro's invention for Violet's dress reveal on Iron Man. Yes you read that right… Iron Man. No, I am not a big fan of the Marvel movies, the only reason I've watched a few because my dad is a fan of Marvel movies. I have never watched Infinity War or any Avengers movie… don't be mad… and yes, I am a human being. I know that probably 99.9 percent of the world's population has probably already watched it, and I am part of that 0.1 percent. Now you might ask how I knew about Iron Man's suit… well it's because during the hype about Infinity War, my professor decided to incorporate it to the lesson. It's about the future of technology and all that. So there, it was a long explanation but that's the shortest I could give!
Let's move on!
Wilbur: I can't believe you've never watched Infinity War.
M.A.: And you have?
Wilbur: Duh! How could you not! And even after all the reviews, comments, and spoilers… you never had the urge to watch it.
M.A.: Are we seriously gonna talk about this? Okay fine, the reason I didn't watch it because I'm the type who asks 'where's gamora, who's gamora, and why's gamora' I always did that whenever I watched marvel movies with my dad and whenever he's explaining things to me he'd always reference a previous movie. The marvel universe is way too confusing to me. I liked it better when they didn't put all the superheroes in one movie. I mean Spiderman wasn't even part of the Avengers before. Okay okay.. enough of this I wanna proceed to the comments now please!
Wilbur: Fine…
M.A.: We have another review from Alice 1115:
This is really good and after rereading it like for the fourth time I had this sorta funny idea.
Like maybe the day before the fashion show violet is kinda having trouble sleeping and has nightmares/flash backs of her ruined dress and every one making fun of her then towards the middle of her nightmare she dreams of Wilbur and of him encouraging her and then she's more relaxed and sleeps better. And when she wakes up and remembers her dream she feels kinda weird because she dreamt about Wilbur so naturally she starts to freak out a little.
This was just a small idea I thought of seemed kinda funny but it doesn't really matter. Anyway, thank you so much for putting my previous comment in your A/N I know it was really long but thank you for your hard work.
Hiro: Hey what's this? You guys already started the A/N without us?
Penny: That's not fair.
M.A.: Oh you guys are finally here.
Violet: What do you mean finally? We never heard you say we're doing the A/N.
M.A.: What are you talking about I told Wilbur… Wilbur Robinson!
Wilbur: Oops?
M.A.: Haa… I'm apparently not as mad anymore… I'm most likely used to it by now.
Penny: Yup.
Wilbur: Hey Hiro, did you know Mari never watched Infinity War?
Hiro: What?! No way!
Penny: Really?!
M.A.: Ahem! Back to the review… This is actually a pretty cool idea. I actually might use it for another time. I know how much you guys want Willet and Penniro to come already. And it will I promise, but not too soon. I'm still building up their characters. They will have to face challenges as a team and maybe as a couple that may or may not lead them to realizing their feelings for each other. That's all I'm going to say… and that I love drama.
Penny: She has already written out how the love story will go and it's going to be one big roller coaster ride.
M.A.: Oooh a roller coaster… I should write that down.
Hiro: Was that another hint?
M.A.: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Violet: For the next review… oohh I love this. It's from Darthrevan112
Another great chapter like always :) I hope we see soon how Penny thinks about Hiro ;)
LG Revan
M.A.: Aww thank you Revan. I'm glad you liked it. The question is quite similar to Alice's question but I'll give you a tiny spoiler, it will take a while before Penny realizes his feelings for Hiro but when the time comes Penny will have some trouble accepting them, not because it's Hiro but for a whole other reason. It will be a big surprise. And fair warning There Will Be Drama!
Penny: So many things happened in this chapter. It was quite a rush.
Hiro: And in the last part, Violet finally revealed her powers.
Wilbur: Dun dun duuuuunnnnn
Violet: Yeah, the fans have been waiting for this for a very long time. I was really excited to finally reveal my powers and at the same time I was nervous. I hope they like how it happened.
M.A.: I know right… I've been getting nonstop requests as to when you were you gonna do it. WELL HERE IT IS FINALLY…
Wilbur: And you did more than that…
M.A.: Well I did end it in a cliffhanger… but don't worry everything- most of it- will be explained in the chapter. On that note…
All: See you in the next chapter!
