When Sabrina and Bella got to Sabrina's apartment, Mustardseed urged Puck to go up with them, but he decided against it and instead made sure they got into the building safely and then headed to Chrissy's apartment. Meanwhile, Sabrina and Bella headed up to Sabrina's apartment and sat down on the couch and started crying with each other. Veronica, Henry and Jake soon found them in tears and began to question what had happened, but didn't want to upset them anymore.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower began to play on screen after Sabrina and Bella had been coaxed into showering and pulling on fluffy pajamas. They curled up under eight different blankets and sipped hot tea from giant coffee mugs. Veronica watched them a moment before deciding to move forward. She tiptoed over to the remote and paused the movie before taking a seat on the ottoman in front of the girls, she gave them both a once over before taking a deep breath and smiling gently.
"Do you girls want to talk about what happened tonight?" Veronica posed. Both girls looked back and forth between each other, their tears had run dry a while ago, but that didn't stop the dead feelings in their chests.
"My boyfriend cheated on me with Bella's cheating girlfriend." Sabrina phrased harshly, then she set her tea down and threw her arms around Bella, who leaned into the hug immediately.
"Oh girls. I'm so sorry." Veronica moved forward, sweeping both of them into bear hugs, which they returned quickly. Neither girl wanted to be alone. Both of them were seeking something that made sense, because nothing did at that moment. "Do you need me to do anything? Food, drinks, music, space?"
"We'll just finish the movie, Mrs. Grimm." Bella responded, falling completely against Sabrina, pulling a blanket over her head like a hood.
"Yeah, we're fine for now mom, I don't think everything's set in yet." Sabrina agreed. Veronica looked helplessly at her daughter and the girl who might as well have been her daughter.
"Okay. I'll be right down the hall if you need anything girls." Veronica pressed short kisses to both of their heads. "I love you."
"Love you too." Sabrina mumbled.
"Love you." Bella added shortly. When Veronica left, Sabrina felt a few more tears streak from her eyes.
"They really cheated on us." Sabrina whimpered.
"It may be because I don't want to think Marie would hurt me, but I really hate my brother right now. For hurting both of us." Bella exhaled deeply, pained to feel such a heavy breath from her chest. "My heart hurts."
"I'm so angry he was my first kiss. I wish it were anyone else. I wish I hadn't given him a chance." Sabrina shut her eyes.
"I wish I stopped giving my all for girls who don't care about me." Bella sobbed suddenly. "I wish I didn't like girls."
"Bella, you don't mean that." Sabrina told her, pulling her to look at her. "You and I both know how hard it was for you to admit that you just didn't like guys, don't try to take it back now. You'll find someone who loves you for you, and they'll deserve you."
Bella, who looked to be at her weakest, quickly leaned forward and pushed her lips against Sabrina's, who jolted and eventually regained sense. Both of them leaned away, but Sabrina wrapped her arms around Bella, who sobbed into her shoulders.
"I'm so sorry." Bella whimpered into Sabrina's ear. "I'm so so so sorry. I'm sorry."
"It's fine." Sabrina responded. It wasn't, but there was something about both of them hurting that made her feel like they needed someone who would actually care for them. Bella was Sabrina's best friend and vice versa, Bella wouldn't mean to do something that would hurt Sabrina, so the kiss was just a moment of vulnerability. Some sort of craving for love that she hadn't been able to find in all but one person. Sabrina understood that better than anyone.
They returned to watching the movie.
"You sure love this movie." Sabrina commented.
"It's my favorite." Bella responded, nursing her tea.
"Is that why you have to copy lines and scenes?" Sabrina mocked lightly, arm still around Bella's shoulders.
"You're a jerk." Bella insulted, but moved closer. And everything was okay.
Everything was burning to the ground in flames.
But they would be okay soon enough.
Puck wished that he would've stayed with Sabrina and tried to comfort her at least, but the fact that both her boyfriend and her friends girlfriend were cheaters was just a whole other level of high school drama that Puck couldn't wrap his head around. It was kind of insane when he tried to consider it, and it made him want to beat the guy up, but that was beside the point.
Puck stayed away for a long time later, he listened to Mustardseed slowly shuffle to bed, then his mother arrive home late and refuse to be quiet despite her possibly sleeping children. He listened to Connie leaving and locking the doors and setting the security system up, then he listened to the night air buzzing with crickets and birds and cars and lights just like New York should be mixed with.
Then he had a moment of weakness and texted Sabrina.
Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness
Puck knew that she probably wouldn't respond, that she was probably going to be sleeping or ignoring all calls and texts and everyone and everything. He didn't and wouldn't know what being cheated on would feel like, so there was nothing that he could do to help make her feel better without harboring any empathetic feelings. Still, all Puck worried about was if she would be okay and if she wouldn't what kind of rabbit hole would she fall into?
Then she texted back.
Desmund Tutu, try harder~
And somehow, Puck was relieved.
"Robin?" What the hell was Moth doing in his house at what had to be at least two in the morning.
"Get out of my house before I call the police." Puck ordered.
"I just wanted to apologize. Can I please talk to you face to face?" Moth asked, and Puck noted that for the first time since he'd known her, her voice was quiet and small, like a child who has to tell their parent that they broke something important. Puck sighed and cursed Sabrina Grimm for making him 'want to see that people aren't always the worst'.
"You have three minutes, and I'm being generous, go." Puck crossed his arms and leaned into his door frame, eyeing the girl in front of him. She'd undone her hair and wiped off her makeup, even at her least flashy, she was still gorgeous enough to be a model.
"I know that I've been mean and rude and self-serving these last few weeks, but I need you to understand the position I'm in. My father left his family to marry my mother because they wanted him to marry well. My mother was poor, she came from nothing. I have to ensure that my family does well or we won't stay afloat much longer." Moth pleaded. "I need this."
"Yeah, I'm a straight white guy who's had everything handed to him and I'm still unhappy." Puck shrugged. "So I don't understand."
"If I don't marry you, I can't achieve anything, please Robin. I need a chance to prove myself. I would do better for you, just, please just give me a chance." Moth begged, moving forward to grasp Puck's shoulders before pulling her hands away. Puck took her appearance in for a moment.
"You get one chance. I find out you're lying and I'm filing a restraining order." Puck conceded.
"God I could kiss you." Moth sighed in relief.
"Don't do that, but there will be ground rules. You can't be mean to my friends, their the company I keep, so that means keep your rich supremacist comments to yourself. Secondly you can't force me to be around other people or other people to be around me if we don't want to." Puck noticed Moth's fake surprise and rolled his eyes. "Don't pretend I haven't heard you trying to get people to talk to me and like me and be friends with me. Stop that immediately."
"Done." Moth agreed.
"Alright, now go home." Puck ordered.
"Thank you. Thank you for everything." Moth smiled, not that fake business smile, but one that actually showed she was human.
"Okay okay, three minutes is up, time to go." Puck shut his door before leaning against it and sighed. He definitely didn't want to be a good person, but in order to be someone worthy of Sabrina, what other choice did he have?
Sabrina cried several times watching Perks of Being a Wallflower.
She cried because she realized how horrible the things were that happened to all of the main characters. She felt for them, knowing that bad things happened to everyone and sometimes the gravity of their situations was horrible. Bella stiffened when Patrick kissed Charlie and Sabrina squeezed her hand, trying to reassure her that everything was fine.
They were both lonely.
Morning came soon enough, the sun peeking through the windows and across the horizon line, the dusty pink orange glow rising as the sun raised higher and higher as the day dragged on. Sabrina desperately craved something feasible. She wanted something that was easy and made sense, and right now, nothing made sense and she couldn't stop the overwhelming feeling in her chest.
"Brina, you're crying again." Bella swiped at her tears.
"Why wasn't I enough for him? Why did Ryder want someone else?" Sabrina covered her mouth as she whimpered. Bella tugged Sabrina into her as she fell apart. It took hours for everything to set in and Sabrina was finally breaking. "What did I do wrong?"
"You didn't Sabrina, you didn't do anything wrong. Ryder is the jerk." Bella had begun to tear up a well. "Marie and Ryder deserve each other for what they did to us. We didn't do anything wrong."
"Why do I feel wrong? Why do I feel like I should have been better and done something different, been a good girlfriend-"
"Sabrina." Sabrina turned around to find Daphne standing at the hallway toward their bedrooms, Basil was behind her, holding onto her pajama dress.
"Hey, give us a minute guys, please." Sabrina wiped at her eyes and Daphne ushered Basil away, Basil turning his head up to ask a question as he was pulled away. Sabrina finished drying her eyes and began to unfurl the blankets draped over her. "I should wash my face."
"Me too, and drink a gallon of water. God knows I need it." Bella sighed and tried to pull herself from her cocoon.
Sabrina washed her face free of tear stains and oils. Rubbed soap deep into her skin and scrubbed so hard that she'd begun to leave red marks on her cheeks and forehead. She used a towel to dry off her face and took a deep breath. Even after washing her face, she still felt wrong. Maybe that's what breakups did to you, made you feel wrong.
"Hey kiddos." Sabrina stepped into her siblings room and sat down on the edge of Basil's bed, the two curled up next to each other quietly. Daphne was holding a pillow to her chest, leaning her chin in the middle of it.
"Why were you crying, Sabby?" Basil asked, brows furrowed in confusion.
"It's because I was sad." Sabrina admits. "Ryder cheated on me."
"He what?!" Daphne smacked the pillow flat into her lap. "I will murder him."
"That's okay, Daph." Sabrina gave a sad smile.
"I think Daffy should murder him." Basil agreed.
"Baz!" Sabrina scolded.
"Brina, don't defend him, he deserves to get his butt beaten for even thinking about hurting you, but he cheated on you?" Daphne gave an exasperated look. "I knew that I didn't like Ryder, he's not good enough for you, Brina."
"I know you're angry, I was too. But right now, I just don't want to think about him, can you guys help me with that, please? Let's have a normal family Sunday, okay? Bella too, she's in the same boat." Sabrina explained.
"Marie cheated on her? High school is full of horrible people." Daphne shook her head.
"Actually, we caught them together." Sabrina added. Daphne's mouth dropped even more than before, utterly baffled by the five words that spilled from her sisters mouth.
"Unbelievable." Daphne shook her head.
"How mean!" Basil added.
"It's so callous and- and inexcusable!" Daphne exclaimed.
"Let's go to Central Park today, we can play soccer with Bella and mom and dad, and Uncle Jake can be the ref. It'll be fun." Sabrina suggests, not wanting to talk about Ryder anymore. After all, she'd learned from Puck that avoiding your emotions and channeling them into something else can produce something beautiful.
"Can Puck come?" Basil perked up.
"Yeah, Puck's a lot of fun, plus he always makes you smile!" Daphne agreed.
"Okay okay, I'll text him, but I'm not sure if he's free." Sabrina agreed. "Can you guys tell mom and dad? I'm gonna check on Bella real quick."
"Let's go Baz." Daphne rushed out toward their parents room with Basil hot on her trail. Sabrina turned to her room, where Bella sat down, looking through her phone at old selfies that she took with her and Marie. In some of the pictures, they made cute expressions and in others Bella was pressing a kiss to Marie's cheek. Sabrina kneels down beside her and clicks the power button off, tugging Bella into a hug.
"Let's play soccer today, at Central Park." Sabrina offers.
"Okay. Yeah, okay." Bella agrees. "Do you want to shower first?"
"Go ahead." Sabrina waves her off and sets Bella's phone on her nightstand, then Sabrina flops on her back on her bed. She didn't have many pictures with Ryder, but she had dozens of memories, cuddling with him, dates, kissing, flirty comments, doing homework together, watching movies. Sabrina missed it all.
And those memories just wouldn't leave her mind.
"Granny Relda!" "Granny!" Sabrina heard Basil and Daphne yell from the hall and Sabrina blinked at the sudden exclamation. After all, they only visited their grandmother on holidays, and Halloween didn't really count as being a big holiday or something. Sabrina got to her feet and stepped into the hall to find her grandmother showing Daphne and Basil something several different shades of blue.
"Hi Granny." Sabrina smiled at the kind old woman. "Do you want me to get mom and dad?"
"Oh that can wait, hugs first liebling!" Relda swept Sabrina into such a warm hug that Sabrina felt safe and sound, it was like finally feeling warm after being in a blizzard. Sabrina sighed and relaxed, letting all her tension be kneaded out by the woman in front of her.
"Thank you Granny." Sabrina mumbled into her vibrant red jacket.
"Oh, well I don't know what's going on, but your welcome. Mr. Canis, come with me to say hello to my children." Relda swept deeper into the apartment and Sabrina smiled after her. She and their Grandpa Basil had been detectives when they were younger but Grandpa Basil was killed on duty and Relda had decided to retire as well, but now she'd taken to travelling and making strange foods.
"Mom?" Sabrina heard her father's tired morning voice call and immediately knew that they'd only woken up Veronica to ask. A few minutes later Veronica emerged with a Cheshire smile on her face as she bee-lined for the coffee maker.
"Granny's in town." Sabrina commented, sipping a glass of water.
"I love when your grandmother visits, she always sets your father and uncle straight." Veronica began to brew the first pot and turned to her daughter. "Feeling any better, are you up for today?"
"It was my idea, anything to get my mind on straight, right?" Sabrina laughed awkwardly. "Is it alright if I invite Puck? Daph and Baz love him."
"Of course, invite all your friends if you want." Veronica urged. "Do you want me to tell your father about everything?"
"Yeah, and I don't really want to talk about it for now. I'm gonna go shower." Sabrina gestured behind her, but Veronica pulled her into a hug first.
"It's okay if you don't want to talk, just know we're here." Veronica whispered.
"I know." Sabrina mumbled.
"Let's have a good day today." Veronica smiled.
"Okay." Sabrina agreed
Central Park around noon? My family is hanging out and we thought you'd want to come too
I mean I'm not one for family things
But as long as it's not mine . . .
You have to give them credit, after all, they put up with your moodiness for so long
I'll have you know I wasn't always this moody
Sure, see you later, Puck
Later Grimm
We are back! Honestly, it's been so long since I read the books so I'm hoping I'm integrating most things in pretty nicely, but honestly, idk what I'm doing. Tell me if you liked this chapter~
