Still don't own MLB
"Hey Chloe," Lila asked after the bell rang for the end of class. "Is it ok if I have lunch with you today?" She asked sweetly. Of course she could also ask the others students to spend lunch with her but she already realized early on that they were avoiding her.
Ever since yesterday, she has noticed that the only people that voluntarily talk to her was that short girl with blond hair and blue eyes who seem to like to wear the color pink and that other short girl who was always with that giant guy, Ivan she thought the name was.
Of course she tried telling them her 'stories' but the usual responses would be like.
"Ahh... That sounds nice."
"Wow... Cool, I guess..."
"Lucky you."
And usually it was only the people mentioned earlier who would actually stick around and listen to her. Probably out of pity but she would take what she could.
Chloe turned to her with a raised eyebrow before shrugging her shoulders. "Sure, why not? It's not like I value my privacy, right?"
Lila, not getting the sarcasm since she was busy thinking about trying to convert Chloe to her side, smiled and clapped her hands. "Thank you! I know, I may sound clingy but I am so excited to hang out with you!"
Chloe rolled her eyes. "Whatever." She picked her bag up and went out of the room with Sabrina and Lila in tow.
"I got a bad feeling about this guys..." Nino, the straight man of their group, commented as he watched the girls leave worriedly. "I mean, I know Chloe is now being nice and all, as weird as that sounds, but I also know that she doesn't tolerate people she doesn't like."
"I was wondering, why doesn't she like Lila? I know she didn't believe her when Lila started telling her stories but my question is why didn't Chloe believe her?" Marinette asked, also worried what Chloe would do. Yes, Chloe was nicer now but she didn't know if that niceness actually extended to people outside their class.
Adrien snorted, catching the attention of their group. "Simple, because you didn't believe her."
Marinette raised an eyebrow. "Me? What do I have got to do with that?"
Adrien chuckled. "Because whether she admits it or not, Chloe admires you Marinette. Even before she started being nice to you."
"Really? I didn't notice."
"Which begs the question how did you know she admires Marinette?" Alya asked curiously. It was one thing when your rival actually acknowledges you. But admire? Now that got anyone curious.
Adrien shrugged, as if the information he's given wasn't that much of a big deal. "Because she told me. Of course I forced it out of her but that is besides the point. What I'm trying to say is that from the moment Lila told her stories, Chloe approached me during break and asked me what your opinion was on her."
Alya snorted and crossed her arms. "And just like that she's convinced that Lila is a liar?" She then turned her attention to Marinette. "Girl, if you said the word, Chloe would probably make out with Kim!"
Marinette gasped. "Alya! That's so mean! You know I wouldn't do that even if me and Chloe weren't friends!"
Alya giggled as she wrapped her arms around Marinette. "And that's why she will listen to anything you'll say! Girl, you are too nice for your own good!" Se then turned to Adrien and glared playfully at him. "That's why Adrien doesn't deserve you!"
Adrien laughed and raised his hands in surrender. "Hey, what do you mean? You know we're just friends, right?" He grinned and winked at them.
Nino snorted as he stood from his seat and grabbed his and Alya's bags. "Yeah just friends because friends flirt with each other shamelessly like they've been doing it for years."
This time, it was Marinette who answered with a smirk. "Well, just a few months actually. I mean, most of us just met this school year so technically we've just been flirting for months."
Adrien nodded sagely. "Yes, what she said." Then a cheeky grin appeared on his face. "Also, we don't flirt. We are just overly friendly."
Alya rolled her eyes as she stood next to Nino so they could get lunch. "Whatever you two! Now come one lets go! I'm starving!" She said as she pulled Nino with her out of the door, Adrien and Marinette laughed as they followed their bespectacled friends.
"H-hey Marinette!" Someone called from behind them. Turning, they saw Nathaniel jogging towards her. "I-I need to thank you for what you did yesterday."
Marinette turned to him, not noticing Adrien's frown towards Nathaniel.
"Oh? What for?" She asked, tilting her head sideways making Nathaniel blush which also made Adrien clench his fists.
"Y-You know... For clearing the misunderstanding y-yesterday." He stammered, now more nervous since he finally noticed Adrien glaring at him. Since Adrien was in the middle of the group, none of his friends noticed he was glaring at Nathaniel and the growl he was emitting was too low for Marinette to hear. "Th-that's all!" Nathaniel said before quickly turning around and running in the opposite direction.
Marinette frowned at her friend's behaviour. "Huh... That's odd, even for him." She then turned towards Adrien who was smiling innocently at her. "Isn't he acting a little bit more nervous than usual?"
Adrien shrugged as he wrapped an arm around Marinette's waist and started leading her towards the cafeteria. "Really? Didn't notice it. Come on, let's go. I have a joke and I can't wait to tell you!"
Marinette giggled as she glared at Adrien. "Let me guess, you can't tell the joke now because it involves your lunch, right?" She teased while subconsciously leaning on him.
Adrien grinned with a glint in his eye, promising mischief. "Of course! What's a joke without it's punchline?"
Marinette giggled as she lightly nudged him. "Aren't you supposed to be keeping this quiet? I mean, it wouldn't be funny anymore if I knew it was coming. Isn't that in the rules or something?"
Adrien scoffed. "As if! Maybe if it was others who are telling the jokes it wouldn't be but it's me we are talking about! I could make puns all day everyday! You could call me pun-ctual at making jokes because I never miss an opportunity to make one." He wiggled his eyebrows as Marinette groaned at his lame pun.
They were so busy flirting that they didn't even notice that Nino and Alya weren't following them anymore, the former two busy gawking at their friends.
"Uhh babe... Did Adrien just..." Nino trailed off not trusting himself at the moment whether he was going crazy or not.
Alya nodded her head absently, just as stunned as Nino. "Yep."
"I wasn't the only one who heard him growl right?"
"Nope."
"As in growling from the throat like a cat?"
"Totally."
Silence engulfed the two as they watched their friends walk towards the cafeteria with Adrien's arm around Marinette's waist completely forgetting about their best friends.
"Tell me again why we're friends with those weirdos?"
"Sorry babe but I've been asking that for months now and I am still nowhere near an answer."
"So Chloe... I was wondering if you could tell me a little about yourself. " Lila asked as she sat opposite of Chloe on their lunch table.
Usually by this time, Lila would've been surrounded by her classmates, asking her about her adventures and travels and she would happily tell them stories while they praise and adore her.
Now? It was only her, Chloe, and Sabrina, the latter busy nibbling on a piece of fruit while simultaneously reading her notes for their test later. Lila reminding herself to ask her what the test was going to be about and also probably some notes for the answers.
Chloe, who was busy filing her nails, looked at her dismissively. "Why?"
Lila's smile faltered for a bit before it returned. "B-because, you know, if I want to make friends with my classmates the least I could do is get to know them better."
"Why?"
Lila's left eye twitched as Chloe continued to stare blankly at her. Not only that, but her dismissive way of responding her was ticking her off more. She would've started with Sabrina but she was still not finished with reading so she didn't have a choice at the moment.
"Because if we become friends, people would realize how approachable you are." She said, barely hiding the growl behind her words. Maybe if she revealed some of her intentions, Chloe wouldn't be so annoying.
To Lila's dismay, Chloe only snorted at her reply as if it wasn't important to her. "Is that it? Can't you make a better excuse than that? Please 'how approachable you are' as if I care about what other people think."
Lila frowned at that. Didn't she want to be the most popular girl in school? So she asked Chloe that.
Instead of snorting again, Chloe looked at her like she was an idiot which was confirmed after she opened her damn mouth!
"Please. As if I actually need that many people flocking around me to be considered popular!" Chloe scoffed as she continued filing her nails. "If you think that's how you get popular then you are more of an idiot than I thought."
Lila's eyes widened at that. She has already done all her research about how to get popular. Being pretty? Check. Have a sad back story? Check. Act innocent and sweet? Check.
She then frowned. If that was all it took to be popular then was the bitch with Adrien not popular? Why were students not flocking her like they were supposed to? Was Chloe right? Did that mean that you don't need a posse to be considered popular?
What Lila didn't know was that in the past, Marinette actually had both boys and girls following her around. Some would also stalk her during breaks and when she went home. One day, Marinette had enough and scolded them, telling them that they were making her uncomfortable.
The thing was, if she snapped at them, they would probably think of her as rude and shallow but since she did it in a comforting way and actually asked them instead of demanding them, they felt guilty and instead decided to admire her from afar.
Of course there were times when a boy would approach her and ask her on a date but she would just gently reject them and tell them that she only wanted to be friends. Obviously it had the opposite effect since they would only fall deeper in love with her.
"Will you teach me then?" Lila asked Chloe as she came to the conclusion that her knowledge about school life was not enough.
Chloe raised a delicate eyebrow at her but didn't say anything. Lila waited for a while, thinking that Chloe was just trying to gather her thoughts.
It took about five minutes before she realized that Chloe was NOT planning on answering her.
Losing her patience, Lila decided to break the silence. "Well? Will you?"
"Why?" Chloe asked dryly.
Lila slammed her hands on the table, catching the attention of the students around them. Lila's eyes widened before she shook her head and smiled apologetically at the people staring at her. "Sorry about that! I was just excited to share some news with Chloe that I slammed my hands on the table! Promise it won't happen again!"
When all the students finally returned to their lunches, Lila glared at Chloe heatedly. Clenching her fists, Lila pointed an accusing finger at her.
"You're patronizing me, aren't you?!" Lila hissed, trying to not gain attention again.
Chloe again rolled her eyes at her. "Please. As if you are worth the effort." She then laughed patronizingly Lila. "You actually thought that you could trick me with your pathetic attempt at being friendly? Please, at least put in some effort!"
Lila gritted her teeth, tears pooling in her eyes. This wasn't supposed to happen! Chloe was supposed to be tricked by HER not the other way around! Without uttering a single word, Lila stood up and stormed out of the cafeteria, for once not caring if somebody would actually follow her or not.
Marinetted sighed, watching the scene from their table. "I hope she'll be ok. I should've stopped her before things got out of hand." Marinette thought sadly. She knew Chloe would be blunt about her insults but she hoped that she would've pulled her punches.
Adrien frowned as he turned to Marinette. "Don't worry, Bug. It's not your fault. She was the one who thought that she could actually trick Chloe into helping her. At least now she'll learn her lesson."
Marinette sighed and nodded her head before her eyes widened and she stared at Adrien in confusion.
"What?"
"I didn't say anything..."
"What do you mean? I heard you said that you should've stopped Lila from going too far with lying."
Marinette frowned in confusion before shaking her head. "Like I said, I didn't say anything. I was only thinking those words."
Adrien frowned at that. "Wait, what?! That can't be right." He turned to Alya and Nino, the former silent for once when it comes to these kinds of situations. "Guys, you heard her right?"
Nino shook his head. "Nope. She was quiet until you suddenly talked to her as if you were replying to her question."
Alya frowned as she glanced back and forth between Adrien and Marinette. "Wait... Are you telling me that Adrien is suddenly psychic?"
Adrien scratched the back of his head in confusion. "If I was suddenly psychic, then why does it only work on Marinette? Hey Nino, let me try it on you!" He then frowned while staring at Nino.
Marinette mentally giggled. "He looks so cute with his face scrunched like that."
Adrien suddenly blushed and turned his attention to Marinette. "Mari, stop distracting me! I'm trying to read Nino's mind."
Alya raised an eyebrow. "But Mari didn't say anything."
"What? But she said I look cute!" Adrien sputtered, pointing an accusing finger at Marinette as if Marinette insulted him.
"B-b-but I didn't s-say it out l-loud!" Marinette stammered, now blushing madly since Adrien just called her out. "I just thought how cute you look when you are concentrating!"
Adrien became thoughtful. "Wait, I heard your thoughts but when I tried it at Nino I couldn't hear anything. Let's try something else."
Alya snorted as Adrien practically shoved his face in front of Marinette, making the girl blush madly again. "Adrien, if you wanted to make out with Marinette just tell us. No need to make excuses on our account." She laughed as Adrien's face became as red as Marinette's
"Alya!" Marinette squealed, now thoroughly embarrassed. Before she could scold her best friend, Adrien suddenly leaned forward and kissed her on the nose. She squealed louder this time and leaned back to cover her face.
Adrien grinned in satisfaction and turned to Alya with a smug look on his face. "How about that?"
Both Nino and Alya laughed as Marinette started lightly pounding on Adrien's chest. Adrien just laughed and wrapped his arms around Marinette now completely ignoring their best friends. Again.
Hmm... I wonder what's happening? Is Adrien suddenly became psychic? Or has finally gone crazy with all the Akuma attacks?
