Kate, Ryan, and Espo were back in the office after searching Coonan's apartment. They didn't find much except a box of DVDs that they had brought back with them after tagging it and checking it in. "What's going on in there?" Espo nodded at Captain Montgomery's office. The lead prosecutor was in there with him and they were both yelling at each other.
Kate could only shake her head as she put her box down and opened it. "Here you take these. And Ryan, these are yours. I'll take the rest." This was going to be long and boring but what choice did she have?

Roy dismissed her. "Get back to work, Beckett. We have a lot to do."
Kate had just made it to her desk when Ryan and Espo intercepted her with their find. Espo went first and opened his DVD to show her. "Heroin, Beckett. The good stuff."
"What did Montgomery want?" Ryan questions her.
"The tape of the confession is gone and without it the prosecutor isn't going after him. Maybe not even for attempted murder." Hers, she meant.

"You don't have to tell me twice." It wasn't safe even in their own precinct.
Espo was gone and Ryan was back and as Kate saw him walk her way he looked a little pale. "Coonan's dead," Ryan murmured.

"Stabbed by the look of it. No sign of a struggle and no visitors in the log. If he was still zoned out he might not have even seen him coming." Ryan hated even the thought of it. "You know what this means."
"Bracken's in DC at the moment," Kate said.
