The gray and white Flareon was back on the beach, gazing out at the open, light blue water. He didn't see any ship, but felt a little haunted by the small specks of glass still on the beach.
Light heard the gentle footsteps behind him and turned around to the Lopunny. His burns had lightened to the point of being hard to notice, and his smile that he had when he first arrived was back.
"It went east towards inhabited islands," Lopunny said. "And it definitely can't fly forever. Unfortunately, it'll be up to you to chase it there. I can't afford to move around in a pattern..."
"I still have a lot of questions, though," Light said.
"The name of that species is Reshiram. I'm pretty sure you're connected to it somehow. But it looks like we'll have to slay it at this rate. It's not normal."
"But who are you and how did you get here?"
"I'm Luke."
"But how did you get here?" Light asked.
"The ship," Luke said.
Light didn't have much energy to get irritated with, but he still managed. He grunted and just kept taking in the view of the ocean.
"What was that place back there?" Light asked. "With all of the glass."
"I'll, uhm, hold off on telling you," Luke said. "You just have to focus for right now. You need to chase Reshiram."
"You're... Not coming?"
"Let's just say you'll wish I hadn't if I did," Luke said in a high voice. "Two travelers are coming on a ship to help you get to the island. It's named Kaigan. I have to leave the rest to you, but I'll be taking a look around here."
"So that's it?" Light asked.
"Yeah," Luke said. "I'm sorry I wasn't able to do more. But I at least wounded it enough for a good strategy to beat it.
"So what now?"
Luke didn't answer immediately, then said, "Well, I guess I better get started. The ship will be here in a few minutes, so good luck. I'll see you again."
Luke turned and walked away, but Light continued to look at him till he disappeared into the forest. Light thought about how powerful Luke was, but wasn't sure if he had a good sense of scale. He never watched sports battles that took place in arenas, so he'd have to check later
Light never got bored watching the ocean so far, but he still focused in on the ship when it arrived. It was a pure, white color, and looked like a cruise ship. There were three levels of dinows on the side, but he'd have to back up a lot to get a better view of the whole thing.
The ship stopped while it was casting a shadow on over half of the beach while still being a bit out in the ocean to keep more water under it.
"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!"
Light screamed when a long, white part of the ship's side fell over onto the beach. Although it was a few meters away, it was close enough to send specks of sand on his gray mane.
"Jewel!" an angry, gruff voice called out.
"Sorry."
Light got himself together and noticed a small, blue pokemon at the top of the walkway on the deck. He shaded his eyes with his arm to get a good look at the person, but was still surprised it was a Manaphy. Mythical pokemon were the rarest kind of species, and he'd never seen one in person before.
The Manaphy turned and nervously made eye contact with a Slowking that had walked up behind her with a slight frown.
"You alright down there?" the Slowking called.
Light only nodded stiffly. He walked to the white walkway after shaking himself off and took the slope up. It was a little high, especially for the lack of guard railings, but Light wasn't afraid of falling from this height.
Once the Flareon got onto the comfortable, wooden deck, he looked up from his feet and towards the Slowking and Manaphy.
"Hi!" Manaphy said. "I'm Jewel!
"My name's Light," Flareon said.
"Chad," Slowking said. "We have a destination, yes?"
"Kaigan," Light answered.
"I'll get us on course," Chad said. "Jewel, show Light around and find him a room."
"Right away!"
The Slowking walked calmly inside, but Jewel almost vanished from Light's vision. There were open, metal doors leading inside with the young Manaphy already looking at him a bit impatiently.
Light quickly followed her inside. Just on the other side of the white, metal doors was a massive, circular room. It light colored wood from the deck, but was completely empty and a bit creepy. Jewel waited for Light by a set of guard rails almost completely surrounding a ramp leading down.
The way down was a short spiral. The dark, wooden walls were far away from each other, giving Light plenty of room to carefully follow Jewel.
When Flareon to the bottom, there was a beautiful red carpet and calming lights on the cream ceiling. The walls stayed the same dark color they were on the way down with sea waves etched into them artistically on the bottom.
With the random directions they took down the same-looking hallways, Light had to run and make sure he didn't lose the fast Manaphy. She suddenly stopped in front of a door with an empty name plate on the door and pushed it open. Light noticed an empty name plate on teh door, but there weren't any names that he noticed on the way.
Light looked around the room, almost shedding a single tear. There was a window showing the ocean just outside. The cream-colored walls had paintings of the sea, and there was a TV facing on the opposite side of a bed covered in white blankets. Just next to it was a table with a beautiful mirror on it and a couch that looked just as comfortable as the bed.
The Manaphy was bouncing up and down on the bed looking at him. Light stared back at her awkwardly.
"Guess it looks good, then," Jewel smiled. "I'll be around the ship, so you can just call for me out on the deck for anything."
"I do have a quick question," Light said slowly. "How do you move like that?"
"Move like... Oh, you think I'm fast!" Manaphy smiled. "It's the same thing that everyone knows. Your body and what you can do depends on your lifestyle and psychology."
"Well, lifestyle is rather obvious, but... You're so fast."
"Yeah, I mean, it's all about those two. Can I ask you something?"
"Uh, sure."
"You're, well... poor. Right?" she asked.
Light's heart rate went up in a jump. "What?"
"The stories about Reshiram my pa tells me," Manaphy answered. She stopped bouncing on the bed and just stood talking. "That Reshiram is always around the poorest pokemon in the world, under their protection for a balance of power. No one related to Reshiram in old stories wasn't really, reallyyyyyy poor."
"Well, uhm, kind of?" Light said.
Jewel's look told him she expected his answer.
"Well, that lifestyle is prolly the reason. It's pretty unfair," Manaphy frowned, "But, all of this stuff matters when you're passing energy through your body. It matters."
"Are you telling me that I can't?" Light asked confused.
"I don't know. People get hurt, and they get scars. And some emotional scars don't go away, and it reflects on the body. When you want, I can try to show you how to run like me. But for now, please eat something."
"Wha."
"I'll take you to the pantry, bro. It's all good," Manaphy said.
"I'm not hungry at this second, though."
"Then consider this to be the first part of your training," Manaphy said with a nervous expression. "Please eat."
"I'm not that thin," Light said.
"O-kay," Jewel said unconvinced. "But I'll have stuff, in case I suddenly become hungry enough to eat a whale. Or two."
Light spun around in place a little bit when the Manaphy went past him, but she was already gone by the time he was facing the now closed door. He tiredly went on top of the bed and its blankets, staring out at the ocean.
He continued to fight Reshiram in his daydreams. The attack repeated in his head, and he had no answer for any of them.
