"I… uh…" Dipper searched for the words to explain why he was about to carve up her family member.
"What do you think you are doing?" She demanded.
The spiders in his head went on a frenzy when he saw the way she looked at him. The emotional response made it even more difficult to keep his magic in check. Sparks continued to appear and pop randomly around him. He gripped the dagger so tightly that his nails dug to She should not see him as a threat, nor should she have that flicker of fear in her eyes. Dipper Gleeful did not easily lose control, but in this situation he struggled to tell the difference between Mabel and his own. He blinked as the
"You need to let my Grunkle down." Mabel said sternly.
"Your Grunkle?' He asked as he cocked his head to the side. Why was she scared of him? He should be the last person she should be scared of. In the end the twins could only trust each other.
"Mabel, get away from him!"" A voice called.
Dipper was brought back to reality. "Stay out of this!" He snarled and slammed The Author into the ground, hard. He could not help but smirk when he heard a crack, something was definitely broken this time. He turned back to see his sister had no longer looked at him in fear, but instead complete horror.
"Mabel-" His voice broke a bit as he reached out his hand. "Please don't look at me like that. He….He deserved it! He treated me like an ignorant child!" He desperately tried to explain. He knew that he was losing his composure, but the spiders were spinning their web in his mind and it made his thoughts foggy.
This was all that stupid mans fault. He should skin him alive and use the leftover vital organs to actually make progress on his way home. Or perhaps he could use that new spell that boils someone from the inside, he had been waiting for a chance to use that one. Sure he would have nothing leftover, but it would sure be entertaining to watch. But, Little Mabel would not agree…..
Dipper could handle almost anything. He had done many, so many terrible things. Not that he really had guilt for any of it, he did it all for him and his sister. They spent their entire life having to fight for whatever they needed. He would do anything for her happiness and safety. But he could not deal with his sister hating him, alternate universe or not. He could not have his sister hate him.
The little girl in front of him resembled his sister to a tee. She was so innocent and ecstatic; things that were long gone in his Mabel. Mabel and himself had turned dark so long ago, as a way to protect himself and gain power where they could. Honestly, they both loved it. But if he could prevent Mabel into becoming a Monster like them, he would do it in a heartbeat. He wanted to take her and lock her away from the world. He just needed to keep her sweet and naive forever.
"Please." He whispered as he struggled to keep his voice from breaking.
Mabel's eyes flickered back to her uncle before they returned to Dipper. She glared at him hard for a few seconds before she sighed.
"It is ok. With the last name Gleeful, I figured it was only a matter of time before something like this happened."
Dipper was slightly insulted that she spoke of his last name in such a poor matter, but that was not his biggest issue at the moment. His blue eyes stared into her brown, it had been a long time since him and his other sister had brown eyes. After years of magic they turned as blue as their amulets.
"You know I would never hurt you, right?" He pleaded. She had to understand that, she had to.
"I…. Of course I know that." She stated "You are my- Grunkle Ford, No!"
She shoved him out of the way just in time for an energy blast to whip past him.
Dipper whipped around to see the old man had once again climbed to his feet. Except now he had one of his blasters pointed at Dipper. Had it not been for Mabel Pines, that first shot may have killed him. He was beyond pissed at this point. He waved his hand and easily used his magic to disarm the man. Dipper had enough of this fucking author and prepared to get rid of him for good. Just as he was able to summon Ford's heart to his hand, he felt a hand on his wrist.
He looked down to see the younger girl tightly gripped onto her wrist. The sight of her silently pleading with him was enough to vanquish any violent thoughts. He bent down to her and cupped her cheek. She pulled him into a tight hug to his surprise, but he returned it. His fights tightly gripped onto her sweater.
Perhaps this was gonna end ok. Maybe it was a good thing that this happened, she was able to witness who he really was and she seemed to have accepted it.. She went as far as to save his ass from Ford. They could make this work. He could pull together a half hearted apology for nearly killing Ford, call it even for him trying to shoot him. Mabel would make-
He tensed as magical alarms went off in his mind and she shouted in pain. He instinctively pushed her away and she held her hand to her chest. She tried to grab his amulet and his protective spells prevented her from doing so. Her palm was already blistering from where it touched the amulet. He would feel bad that the spell burned her, if she had not just betrayed him.
"How could you?" He screamed in rage. "You… you little brat!"
No one touched his amulet, no one. If she was not his sister, he would have killed her on the spot. Magic is the entire reason they had everything they had. It was the only thing that gave him power, the only thing that made him worthwhile. They wanted to take it from him, she wanted to take it from him. He needed to protect it at all costs. It was not safe to stay here any longer. He gripped his amulet and transported himself outside of the shack and into the forest.
…..
"And Sir Gideon finds himself surrounded by a hoard of trolls." "What does he do? Shall he fight, or flee?"
"I decided to talk to them. I have the silver tongue pendant which gives me an extra 7 on charisma."
Dipper laughed. It had been a long time since he had a friend his age, besides his sister, to hang out with. Let alone anyone to play Dragons and More Dragons with. If someone had told him a week ago he was spending time with Gideon, he would laugh in their face. Yet here he was, playing a game with his enemy.
"I thought it was an extra five, not a seven." Dipper argued.
"Let me check the stats on that one."
Gideon turned around and sighed when he saw a chicken had made a nest in the papers. Dipper could not help but snort in both amusement at the complete ridiculousness at the situation. On one hand those papers had a lot of important information and spreadsheets they needed for the game; on the other hand the two fought over them and it seemed as if the chicken was winning.
"Why is there a chicken in here?" Dipper asked as he tried not to laugh.
"Pacifica's pet." He stated. "She found her at the beginning of the summer, about to be sacrificed by the Gleeful Twins. I think it was the first time she realized they were truly dangerous. Anyway, she risked her life to save this dam thing, and in return Henetta became a loyal friend."
"Mabel won a pig at the carnival." Dipper explained as he watched as Gideon continued to struggle with the chicken. "So I guess I can understand what it is like to have a barn animal living with you. Although Waddles is never really this…. Troublesome."
Gideon pulled back when the bird pecked his hand. "Yea. Henetta loves Paz, but hates the rest of us. Do you mind going to find her? I fear she won't let us continue our game purley out of spite unless Paz comes to convince her otherwise. Dam chicken deserves to get sacrificed."
The bird clucked in protest.
"Don't act like I am wrong." Gideon snapped at the bird.
Dipper got up and walked up to through the shack in hopes to find Pacifica. It was so strange inside of this alternate shack. It was the exact same place he had spent the entire summer, but at a closer glance it was off. The small trinkets, belongings, photos, and a million other things were different. He found Pacifica up in the bedroom upstairs, tears trailed down his cheeks.
"Hey, are you ok?" He asked as he walked in.
She quickly wiped away the tears and forced a smile.
"Of course." She stated. "Are you having a good time with Gideon?"
"No, seriously." Dipper insisted as he sat on the bed. "What is wrong?'
She stared at him for a few more seconds. Dipper watched as more tears formed in the corner of her eyes.
"This entire situation is all my fault." She stated. "If I had not been so obsessed with that stupid computer that I was willing to make a deal with a dorito-"
"Stop." Dipper interrupted.
"What?" The older teen asked.
"You can't blame yourself for Bill manipulating you." He stated. "Trust me, I learned that while ago. Besides, I am the one who decided to go through the portal in the first place. But you know what, I can blame you for two things."
"I am so sorry-"
"You are the one who took me to Mabel when I insisted. Then you are the one who saved me when I needed it. You have done nothing but try to get me home, and I am very grateful for that."
The girl smiled at him, a real smile, not like the fake one from before. "Thank you. That really, really helps."
Dipper smiled back at her. Too many times he had blamed himself for walking into Bill's traps. Ford himself explained how manipulative the demon was; Dipper could not let Pacifica tear herself up. Pacifica SouthEast and Gideon Pines were good people, that is what he was sure was. The pair reminded him of Mabel and himself in so many ways.
"Can I ask a question?" Dipper asked.
"Shoot Lil Dip." Pacifica responded as she playfully ruffled his hair.
"I have heard many things from Gideon, and Mabel personally personally enchanted me." He tried not to think too hard about that last part. "If the Gleeful Twins are half as bad as I think, then why are you dating my alternate self?"
She chuckled. "When he asked me on the first date, I knew it was a ploy to try and get our Journal. But I figured I would play along, perhaps it would be a good way to keep tabs on him. It was awkward as hell at first, but I learned that under the psycho was a huge dork."
"But he is still a psycho on top, right?" Dipper asked awkwardly.
"I had the courage to look deeper, and in doing so I think he learned to do the same with himself." Pacifica explained. "I think he had himself convinced he was only a monster, but our close relationship is helping to change that. I have to put a lot of trust in him and forgive him for trying to kill us multiple times…. But it is worth it."
Dipper sat in silence as he pondered her words. Paz really was brave to put so much faith in someone who had once been her enemy. She had managed to befriend the Gleeful Twin and make him into her ally. Perhaps, perhaps he could hopefully someday do the same.
