Chapter Nineteen: Opportunities
Edward's not speaking with his father and I'm to blame. For an entire month he ignores phone calls, dodges text messages. While at work he only speaks to Carlisle about patients. No pleasantries between them. If I hadn't been in the picture he would have been on the first flight to New York.
"They're both as stubborn as each other," Alice tucks her hair behind her ear as she picks up her coffee cup, "when we were kids they argued for a week about monopoly. It was Emmett's fault in the end - he stole money from them both."
"That game does destroy families. Maybe this entire thing is actually just because they haven't gotten over monopoly," Rose shrugs.
She'd been doing better. She's smiling again and it's really nice to see. Aside from Emmett, me and Edward no one knows about the baby. However she won't be able to keep it up for much longer. After hours of arguing, tears and kissing they have decided to keep their baby. I'm incredibly proud of her making this choice despite how utterly terrified she is. Nevertheless, they've both accepted that parenthood is upon them.
"I doubt this is about Park Lane," I scoff, "Edward refuses to move and Carlisle refuses to find a spot."
"He totally could as well," Alice shakes her head, "I think this is just the parent wanting the best for the kid. Not realising the best isn't actually the best."
"Edward is an adult," I sigh, "he can make his own decisions."
"I agree," Alice nods, "I tried telling dad that but he won't listen. Normally I just bat an eyelash and he gives in, but this time it's bigger than that. I think there's something deeper here."
"Maybe he doesn't want Edward dating me," I shrug.
"Seriously no way," Alice shakes her head, "They like you. Mum was gushing about you to me on the phone after you met them. She said she loves that Edward is happy."
"I mean you're possibly the best in-law," Rosalie smirks at me, "Jasper and you are pulling way ahead of the one that managed to get knocked up after a few months of dating."
"Sorry what?" Alice stares at her shocked.
"Shit," Rose growls.
"I can't believe you just ousted yourself," I say.
"You're pregnant?" Alice doesn't know whether to be angry or happy.
Several expressions flash across her features until it rests on one - a massive smile.
"You're telling me I get to be an aunty," she gasps, "oh Rosie."
Alice squeals, jumping up to lean down to Rose and hug her.
"I can't wait. I hope it's a girl. I could dress her in pink, take her to get her nails done," Alice beams, "Emmett will be an amazing dad. So will you, an awesome mummy."
"Calm down," Rose laughs, "it's very early days. I shouldn't have even told you."
"Well Bells. I think you've found your answer. Rose should take the heat off Edward just fine," Alice laughs.
Trying to catch his breath Edward lies beside me on the bed naked, exhausted and smirking like a fool. Turning to my side, naked I smile right back at him.
"That was fun," I run a hand over his chest and look into his eyes.
"That's an understatement. Please welcome me home naked more often. I'm so fucking glad I gave you that key," he pulls me in close to his body, wrapping an arm around me.
"I know you've been stressed lately. I wanted to help you," I smile, "your father…"
"Will come around," he interrupts, "don't worry about my family issues. Your only concern should be about the next twenty minutes."
"Why?" I smile confused.
"By then I won't be this tired," his hands travel up my stomach and cup my breast.
I roll my eyes and sit up grinning. I'd decided to show up to his apartment before he got home. I underdressed and sat on his couch waiting for him. When he walked in the door he didn't even say anything - he just pounced.
"We need to discuss this, Edward," I sigh, "It's important. Maybe there's a hospital closer?"
"You know Kris Jenner works hard, but you work harder," he pulls me back down to him, "I have it covered. Just relax and trust me. Even if the hospital director wasn't my dad this would still be a problem. I've never expected favours from him."
"I do trust you," I prop myself up lying my chest onto his, "I just don't want you to choose wrong."
"Any solution that doesn't include you is wrong," he says.
"Do you ever wish you stuck to your guns and kept up the 'I don't date' stuff," I say.
He looks at me shocked I'd even dare asking.
"I've never looked back," he tucks my hair behind my ear before running his fingers down my back, "I'm only ever looking forward these days."
"What's there?" I whisper.
"You. Only you," he tilts my head up to kiss me.
He makes love to me over and over, all night, until we're both asleep dreaming of the future we want to create together. In fact so much that when I wake up the next morning and attempt to make for the kitchen I ache. Slipping on his shirt I grin like an idiot making myself coffee. I had no clue ditching my appendix could bring me so much.
"I could get used to that," he smirks walking into the room, shirtless just in boxer shorts.
"I could get used to that," I motion to his body.
"I have the morning off, we could go do something fun or we could get that shirt back off you," he moves behind me wrapping his arms around me.
"I don't think my body could take it," I laugh, "you're very thorough."
"Sorry," he chuckles kissing my neck, "I can't get enough of you."
"I can stay for a little bit but I have to go apartment hunting today," I sip my coffee.
"Sorry why?" He turns me to face him, confused.
"Cause when Rose has the baby she's probably going to live with Emmett. She told me she wants to raise the baby with him there," I say, "she told me she wanted him up at 2am feeding the baby too."
Edward considers me for a moment, watching me closely.
"Is there something on my face?" I begin to wipe at my cheek but he grabs my hand.
"Live with me?" he says suddenly.
"Huh," I widen my eyes.
"Live with me. Here. You can bring your plants, turn it pink. You can even put candles on every surface," he takes my coffee cup, putting it down before taking both of my hands, "live with me."
"That's a huge step. Do you think we're ready?" I shake my head.
"Where else will you go?" he asks.
"I was going to rent someplace for a while. Maybe even find a roommate," I say.
"What better roommate is there than one who will cook for you, cuddle you, let you pick the movie. I'll even let you use me for sex," he kisses my hands.
I laugh, taking them away from him so I can wrap my arms around his neck.
"We've been together a few months..." I start.
"Four," he corrects, "and the weeks before that I was a dick. We can still count them. Please, we're ready."
I don't know why I'm hesitating. Of course I want to say yes, but his parents are in the back of my mind. I don't want them to think I'm rushing into this to keep him here.
"Maybe you should talk to your father first," I say.
"That's why you're not sure," he frowns, "Bella, my father is my boss. It makes things hard I know, but in both positions he can only advise me. He might hate decisions I have made but this one, if he can't be happy about this then that's on him. Never in my life have I felt this sure about something. I want you."
"Fine," I smile, "I'll move here when Rose needs me to though."
"Really? Oh baby this is amazing. You won't regret it for a single moment, I promise," he grins wickedly, "I wanted to keep it quiet, but I was offered a job at the private hospital."
"Wait what," I gasp smiling, "here?"
"Here," he nods, smirking, "I have yet to tell my dad. I took it."
I jump up and into his arms happily kissing him with everything I have inside of me.
