All eyes immediately fell on Jake. "Thanks for meeting us…I'm gonna go…see if she's okay."
"Um…I'm kind of stuck in the dream world until she wakes up." Sam said.
"You can wake up at any time." Jake told her.
"No, I want to see how you fix this." Sam said.
Jake rolled his eyes, "Grandpa and Fu, thanks for coming. I'll keep you updated." Jake said.
"Thank you. I will see you for training tomorrow. Come Fu." Lao Shi said.
Jake turned into his dragon form. "Hop on." He told Sam.
"Uh…I can walk." She said nervously.
"It's fine. I won't go too fast." Jake said.
"Okay…here goes." She said and climbed on top of his back. She held onto him, and in a few seconds, they were in front of her sister's door. She quickly jumped off. "I did not enjoy that." She said.
"Well, we're here. You can wait outside, or if you really want to come in you can." He said.
"It's my sister. I don't need permission." She said and opened the door.
"She could be anywhere." Sam said.
"Knowing your sister, she's probably somewhere quiet. Deep in her memories." Jake said.
"This is her dream." Sam said.
"Your dream door also holds your deepest memories. If we go deep into her sub-conscious, I have a feeling we'll find her." Jake said pulling Sam along.
The first memory they came across was Rose in Hong Kong. She was in school, sitting in the front of the classroom.
"I hated this class. Algebra, Rose was always raising her hands to answer questions at the board." Sam said.
"Is that a bad thing?" Jake asked.
"For her it was." Sam said.
They watched the memory as the teacher called her to the front of the room.
"Please Rose, come show the other students how to solve a simple equation." The teacher said smiling at Rose.
She stood up to answer the question and the girl sitting behind her whispered. "An ass that hot, no wonder she always goes up to answer. She wants to show it off. What a skank."
"Rose always assumed they were laughing because she was smarter than them. I never had the heart to tell her what they were actually saying." Sam said sadly.
"She never found out?" Jake asked.
"No, she did. She overheard someone one day. She ran out of the room crying, and she never offered to walk up to the front of the classroom again. She would pretend she was shy if we ever had to do class presentations." Sam said sadly.
"Did she have any friends?" Jake asked.
"Yes. A few girls and some guys. We were a close knit group. Rose did have one boyfriend she really liked before you, but he was only with her because she was pretty. She didn't date much after that, and when she did it never lasted more than a week." Sam explained.
"Why didn't they pick on you?" Jake asked.
"Rose was a better person than me. I never offered to answer questions at the board because I knew I'd just embarrass myself. I'm not smart, I barely got into high school and I liked the attention guys gave me, so no one called me a whore or a skank. They knew if they did, I wouldn't hook up with them. I know that sounds terrible, but it was the only thing that made me feel special, and different from Rose since we look EXACTLY alike. Fu is right, we're carbon copies." Sam said.
"I guess both of our sisters got the brains in the family. My little sister got the highest grades in her class last year. I almost failed the grade too. Your sister is really something. I'm lucky to have her...you know if she doesn't hate me for this whole bedrest situation." Jake said.
"Come on. Let's go to a different memory." Sam said.
Jake brought them to a deeper memory. He smiled when he saw Rose, then he realized where they were.
"Where are we?" Sam asked.
"Still in Hong Kong. The hotel…why is she wanting to see this? This is where we spent the night together."
"You took her to a hotel? What did she think would happen?" Sam asked.
"We just wanted to spend a night together. It really didn't matter where, and I know the Chinese Dragon. His parents own the hotel and he let me stay here with Rose. Where else were we supposed to be alone? Your dad doesn't even let us close the door." Jake said.
"Now she's pregnant." Sam said.
Rose listened to the two, they were talking like she wasn't even there. If they came to comfort her, they were failing. If anything, they were upsetting her. She wasn't stupid. She knew it was a hotel, and in retrospect she knew what could have happened. A part of her is thinking that, maybe she even wanted it. She just couldn't stay mad at Jake. She could be mad at Sam, who had no business being this deep in her memories. She stood up and looked around until she saw a glass of water. She quickly walked up from behind and poured it on Sam in an attempt to wake her up. It worked because a second later she disappeared from her dream.
"Well that woke her up." Jake said.
"Why are you here." She asked, sitting back down on a chair.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin your life...I just… I don't know, Rose, I just wasn't thinking. I went so long without having you in my life. I knew you were out there. I had to live with the fact you didn't know who I was and when I finally got you back…I just wanted to show you how much I loved you. In every way possible." Jake said.
"You didn't ruin my life." Rose said.
"You have to be on bedrest." Jake said.
"True. But you can't blame yourself for everything. We both decided to have unprotected sex, and we are both old enough to know the consequences. You didn't ruin my life. Don't ever think that. I wouldn't change a thing. I wouldn't have done anything with you if I didn't love you. I'm just so upset! I want to go to school, I want to make friends and go to football games. I've always wanted kids but not in high school. Not where people are going to look down on me and call me names. You've seen my memories…Sam probably explained what middle school was like." Rose said sadly.
"I can't erase the past. Any of it. I can promise you a better future. You know I love you." Jake said.
"I know how much you love me. Is love enough? Should I even go to the first day of school knowing I'll have to leave in a few weeks or just discuss homeschooling options with the principal." Rose asked.
"I can't answer that. You have to decide." Jake said.
"I hate that I have to discuss this with Rotwood." Rose sighed.
"You'll be fine." Jake said.
"You know what's a good thing?" Rose asked.
"What?"
"The babies. Did you realize that Fu said Kara knew the moment they were conceived? Kara only see's good things." Rose said.
Jake smiled. He completely missed Fu saying that. At least these babies would bring some good.
He was pulled out of his thoughts by Rose laughing softly. She buried her face in his chest blushing. "What?" He asked.
"No wonder I got pregnant. You didn't last very long inside of me." She said.
He suddenly remembered what memory they were in. The night and place the twins were conceived. He put his arms around her. "Are we really going to re-live this night?" He asked.
She shrugged. "It was a special night. One of my favorite memories." She said.
"Good call sending Sam away." He said.
"Yeah, she doesn't get to see this." Rose said.
"You know, It's still true. I don't regret anything. Do you?" Rose asked.
"I never regret a moment spent with you Rose." Jake said pulling her closer to him. He noticed she was wearing his Jacket and smiled. He could feel the heat radiating from his offspring from Rose.
"Wow…it really is warm." He said, "That doesn't hurt?" He asked.
"It doesn't hurt me. It is making me hot." She said.
Suddenly the scene changed to the beach they liked to frequent on their dream dates. She was in her usual beach attire. Jake's favorite. His Jacket, and only his Jacket. How this became her usual beach attire on dream dates he didn't know, and he wasn't about to complain. "I was hot." Was all she said.
Jake imagined having dragons inside of you, developing their powers at the same time could affect your body temperature. He laid back on a beach towel and she rest her head on his chest. They fell into a comfortable silence. Thinking about their future. So much in one night. He felt his babies heat. Boy and girl. Would he be able to train one, or both? He would really love to, but he knew there was a slim chance. He knew his grandpa had to get special permission to train him and there was still so much he had to learn before he was ready to train anyone. There was also one more thing weighing on his mind:
The shadow demons.
He knew he'd have a hard fight ahead of him and thought about calling in help from the Greek dragon again. He had to take all of the precautions he could. He promised Rose a better future. The only way he could make that happen is if he were there for her and his children. Maybe he should warn Rose about it- he heard soft breathing and noticed. Rose had fallen asleep.
"How do you fall asleep on a dream date?"
He closed his eyes and tried to mimic his girlfriend's actions but couldn't. He settled for just holding her for the rest of the night.
"God, I love you." He whispered.
THE NEXT DAY
Rose woke up with a smile. She felt warm inside, but she knew why now. She was happy her babies were healthy, but she had mixed feelings about today. She had made a decision when she woke up this morning…She couldn't do it. She couldn't go to school for a few weeks just to leave.
She didn't tell Jake about her decision yet. She wanted to know what her parents thought. Her father was working until five, and they had dinner at around six-thirty. She looked at Sam who had gone back to sleep after Rose had dumped water on her. She felt bad, but she didn't want to share that memory with anyone except Jake. She quietly walked past Sam and down the stairs. Her mom was in the kitchen putting dishes away.
"Mom…after dinner can I talk to you and dad? Alone?" She asked.
Her mom stopped what she was doing and turned around to look at Rose. "Is it about the baby?" She asked.
"It's about school." Rose said.
"School hasn't started yet." Alison said.
"I know, but we need to do this before the first day."
"What?"
"Wait until dad gets home please." Rose said.
Rose went back upstairs to get dressed for the day. She decided to wear some of her new clothes before they didn't fit anymore. She was buttoning her pants when she felt a pillow being thrown at her. "Ow! Sam!"
"You poured water on me." Sam said, clearly still irritated.
"Look, that was a really intimate memory. I didn't want you to see it." Rose tried to explain.
"I wasn't going to look." Sam said.
"Me and Jake needed to talk alone, and I know you. You'd say, "I won't look", then you'd look anyways." Rose said.
"Okay. You're right on that one. Can you at least tell me what you two talked about? Are you still together? Please tell me you didn't break up with him. He's starting to really grow on me." Sam said.
"We're together, we talked about the babies. We talked about school…Sam, I decided I can't go. I wanted a new start. I don't want a repeat of people calling me names, looking down on me. My new start is with Jake, and the babies. I have decided to finish my education at home, and maybe go to a community college. You know, just to get some sort of degree. I need to be here to take care of my babies, and I think this is the best way. I have you. I have Jake. I'll be fine." Rose said.
"This is really what you want?" Sam asked.
"Yes."
"Then I support you. I know Jake will too."
"He said it was my choice, he couldn't make it for me." Rose said.
"It won't be the same without you there."
"We had one class together. Not counting homeroom, and Lunch period. Besides, you and Jake have the exact same schedules. You'll be fine." Rose said.
A/N: I didn't know how to end this chapter. It's shorter than the previous one. I promise something will happen in the next chapter. Fun fact: There was also a scene between Trixie and Rose in this chapter but it got cut and moved to another chapter.
