I know this is a Jack and Andy fic but I wanted to throw a little Marina in here since many of us were upset by what went down in 3x15. I wanted to be sure to give Marina the happy ending they deserve!
"Ok, so where do we want to go?" Jack smiled as he turned around on the stairs to see all three kids walking down behind him.
"Wherever Mommy wants to go. It's Mother's Day", DJ answered
"Hmmm, I think I'm in the mood for Wilson's down the street. The diner? We haven't been there since the kids came" Andy suggested.
"I think that would be fun. Is everyone ready to, woah", Jack answered as he took a look at the kitchen where the carton of eggs was still laying on the floor and the flour was in rings on the kitchen island. "Did anyone clean up down here? Rowan?"
"I forgot Dad, I'm sorry. We were excited to give Mom her gift", Rowan answered as he looked over the mess they had made.
"That's okay. I know. Let's clean this up all together before we go", he smiled as the kids went over to join him. He handed each of the kids a paper towel and locked eyes with Andy who was already starting to clean up some of the eggshells on the floor.
"It's Mother's Day. Sit and relax Andy", Jack reminded her.
"Mommy never relaxes" DJ answered as Andy shook her head and smiled.
"I know. But I want her to try today", Jack smiled as Andy laughed. While he and the kids were cleaning the kitchen, she sat back in the island chair and got a text from Carina.
"Hey Andy, I need to ask you for a favor. Now a good time to call?"
"Sure, kids and hubs cleaning the kitchen. I have a minute now" Andy typed back as the phone rang and the alarm for the dryer went off. "Jack must have started the laundry before we came downstairs", she thought as she made her way to the laundry room, shutting the door behind her.
"Hi Carina, is everything okay?" Andy asked as she got on the phone
"Oh, everything is just wonderful. I'm at work, so I thought it would be the right time to call you. I need to use your deck tonight and I need you guys to be there", Carina asked straightforward as Andy stood in the laundry room puzzled while trying to fold the towels fresh from the dryer.
"You can use it. What are you using it for?" Andy asked
"I'm going to propose tonight. I'm going to ask Maya to marry me" Carina answered excitedly as Andy heard her paged in the background.
"Were you just paged?" Andy asked
"Yes, but it can wait. I wanted to ask you because your deck would be the most beautiful place to do it. So can I?" Carina asked
"Definitely. Oh my God yes. Do you need me to get anything? Any special decorations and the such? You two should stay for dinner. Jack's just grilling hamburgers" Andy asked as she heard shouts of "Mom, you almost ready?" from the living room
"Sounds like you're the one getting paged now. And veggie burgers please. Can you also find a way to get her to come over?" Carina asked
"Tonight's running night so I'm not sure. What do you think I should do?" Andy asked as Rowan knocked on the door. "Give Mommy two more minutes. I'm sorry Carina, what did you say?"
"Say there's an issue with the babies and you need her to babysit" Carina suggested
"You want me to lie, about that? This may not be the best choice of words considering your brother and your father, but have you lost your mind? I want to get her here. Not give her a heart attack", Andy yelled while whispering while hearing Amelia ask Jack "What's Mommy talking about in there?". She let out a small laugh as she heard him reply "I don't know, but it sounds important"
"Will anything else get her to miss running night. Think about it Andrea?" Carina asked
"Fine. But if my kids find out and get scared again, that's on you" Andy relented as she heard the page for Carina sound more pressing on the other end.
"Ok, then tell her you have a sudden appointment with me. I have to go. But a million times thank you. I'll be by at 6. Have a great day" Carina answered as she hung up. Andy took a deep exhale out as she opened the door in the laundry room a crack.
"Jack, can you come in here for a second?" Andy called as he went over and joined her in the room, shutting the door behind him.
"I'm all for morning sex but we should really be doing that while all the kids are asleep", he started as Andy arched an eyebrow at him.
"Yeah, because the fresh scent of Gain and Rowan's dirty socks just scream sexy time. We are not in here for morning sex. We are in her because Carina is proposing to Maya tonight at our house and she chose us to help her with it. Its running night, which means I need to lie to get her here, and the lie is kind of a big deal considering what happened last time the lie wasn't a lie. And now I'm rambling like I usually do when I'm nervous, I mean why us?" Andy asked panicked as Jack held her by the shoulders in front of him and massaged them.
"Because you're Maya's best friend. What do we need to lie about?" Jack asked calmly trying to take everything into perspective.
"Carina wants us to say that she needs to check the babies and that we need Maya to baby sit", Andy mentioned
"That's not that bad, I thought it would be worse", Jack answered unaware
"Ok, at least I have you to back me up", Andy smiled
"You can bet on it", Jack laughed as they shared a long kiss, knocking over a broom as they heard Rowan yell, "What was that? What's taking so long?" from the living room.
"I think we better go before they stage a coup", Andy smiled as she pulled away before walking out of the laundry room.
"What were you guys doing in there?" DJ asked
"Talking", Andy stated flatly as she grabbed her purse and her keys off the shelf.
"Don't be dumb DJ they were K-I-S—" Rowan started as Jack glared at him and interrupted him, unwilling to divulge what didn't actually happen to the kids.
"We're not name calling and we're talking about something else Rowan Andrew. How about we talk about what we're all going to eat when we get to Wilson's huh?", Jack asked as he switched the subject
"That's where Jenna used to work", Rowan answered. "It'll be cool to go there again. I'll order my usual waffles with whipped cream"
"And I'm going to get a whole mountain of Pancakes", DJ answered with dramatic hand motions as they piled in the car and drove to the restaurant. Once at the diner, everyone piled into a booth and looked at their menus as their favorite server and co-worker to Jenna came over.
"I haven't seen you two here in a while. And you brought Jenna's kids. How are they doing?" the waitress asked
"They're doing great Jess. Thriving. Jenna put us in her will as the next of kin for the kids and they've became our family in four short weeks. You should have seen them this morning. They put on this whole Mother's Day thing for Andy" Jack explained as Jessica adjusted her glasses.
"Well I'm glad to hear they're doing so well. Any new updates?" she asked
"Rowan has two solos in the school concert tomorrow. DJ is going to his first T-Ball game on Friday and Amelia starts preschool tomorrow", Andy smiled as Jessica poured coffee and took their orders.
"Sounds like a load of fun. Congratulations Ro. I'll have those dishes right out for you", she smiled as she made her way back to the counter and into the kitchen.
"So, guys, we have something we need to talk to you about. Aunt Carina's coming over tonight. She wants to ask Aunt Maya to marry her. Aunt Carina wants to know if we can help. Do you think we can, because I seem to remember that three professional party planners planned a super amazing Mother's Day surprise", Andy mentioned as she sipped her coffee.
"How do we help with that?" Rowan asked
"Let's ask Aunt Carina that one when she comes over", Jack suggested as Jessica came back over with five plates of steaming food.
"Woah, you remembered the whipped cream smile Jess!", DJ exclaimed as he noticed the face drawn on his pancakes
"And M&M eyes", Jess added as DJ hungrily dug in. Jack looked at him expecting something as DJ wondered what it was.
"What do we say to Jess?" he asked
"Oops, I forgot. Thank you!", DJ yelled with his mouth full of food, causing chunks of pancake to fly across the table at Andy.
"How many times did Mommy telled you not to talk with food in your mouth", Amelia asked like Andy as Andy tried to stifle her laughter across the table from her.
After breakfast, everyone went home while Andy went to the store for the things Carina asked for. Around 6:00 that night, Jack was cooking on the grill when Carina walked into the backyard.
"It looks nice over here", she smiled as she looked at the entrance to the pool which was littered with hastily cut daisy petals.
"Thanks. DJ did the decorating. When's Maya coming?" Carina asked. She couldn't wait any longer.
"Andy's on the phone with her right now. Speak of the devil", he smirked as Andy walked out of the sliding back door still talking on the phone.
"Yes, Maya, Carina needs to tell us something urgent about the babies so I really need you to be here to watch the Destruction League. Be careful with little miss Amelia, she's been drawing on the walls lately. I'm so sorry to interrupt your run night. Thank you", Andy mentioned as she hung up. "Maya should be here any minute"
"The destruction league?" Jack asked with an arched eyebrow
"Amelia drew on a wall, DJ's room is a pigsty, and Rowan made a very big mess in the kitchen this morning", Andy answered
"Can you watch the grill, and I'll go get them for dinner?" he asked as he kissed her quickly.
"You're leaving me in charge of your pride and joy? Wow", Andy answered sarcastically as he walked back towards the door.
"Don't make me regret it", he smirked as he went inside the house, leaving Andy and Carina outside to talk.
"Ugh, I can't. You two are so adorable together", Carina complimented as she sat down on the edge of a lounge chair.
"We weren't always like this. It took a lot of hard work. Then after a while it became easy. He was my best friend first and foremost", Andy answered. "Meredith Grey said something about having one certain someone who's your person, like that Alex Karev guy was for her. Meredith didn't marry her person. I did. I was lucky enough to have two loves of my life"
"Maya's my person. Maya saved me. She helped me with my baby brother when I needed it most. We've had our ups and downs, our mistakes, she cheated on me with your husband", Carina started
"Yeah, can we not revisit that?", Andy answered as she put the cheese on the burgers
"Of course. While we've had our ups and downs I figured out that I love her more than anything in the world and I want to spend the rest of my life with her", Carina answered "How did you know that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with Jack?"
"He saved me from unimaginable grief. He stayed by my side and didn't leave, even after I left. I figure out one night after I had been home for three months, that I loved him and he loved me back. When he proposed, he did it in our little tiny apartment in the kitchen with a song I loved. And that was when I realized that I did want to spend my life with him, and now look at us. We're married and have this crazy little family and he's such a great father to our kids and a wonderful husband" Andy smiled as she noticed Jack walking out the door followed by a parade of the children. She waved to them as she put all the burgers on buns and set them on the plate.
"Alright, everyone go sit and I'll bring the food over. This isn't half bad Andy Herrera Gibson", he laughed
"Half bad? What about the best you've ever tasted?" she laughed
"I didn't taste it yet, but I'll be the judge of that", he smirked as he carried a stack of plates to the table while Rowan went in and grabbed the condiments from the fridge. As they all sat down to eat, Maya came rushing into the backyard in running shorts and a t-shirt out of breath.
"I'm sorry I'm late. You're having dinner? I thought you had an appointment. Carina what are you doing here?", Maya asked
"Oh, I cancelled their appointment, so I stopped by for dinner. Want to join?" Carina asked
"No, I don't want to join. You know I don't eat red meat, it clogs the arteries", Maya huffed.
"Bella..", Carina stated as Maya cut her of shifting her angry and very much annoyed glare to Andy.
"I'll get back to you later. What the hell? Why didn't you tell me she cancelled or that she was I don't know suddenly really good friends with you to the point where you guys have secret dinner parties you don't bother to tell me about? That's a bitch move Andy and you know it" Maya yelled
"Language, kids are eating", Jack interjected as Maya went over to him.
"Maya, we were going to tell you…" Andy started as Maya snapped at her
"But you didn't. I trusted you, that's what really sucks"
"Bella please, let me explain", Carina interjected trying to calm you down as Maya shook her head.
"Don't you Bella me. This was a shit thing you did", Maya snapped
"There are children right in front of you", Andy yelled as Rowan shook his head and closed his eyes over the sound of the adults arguing.
"Why are the grown-ups mad?" Amelia asked
"They're too loud, I can't hear myself eat", DJ whispered
"I got it guys. Let the master handle this" Rowan answered as he turned to all the adults and rolled his eyes
"Aunt Maya, chill, Aunt Carina came because she was planning to ask you something here" Rowan expressed as all the chewing and fighting, and any noise really stopped.
"What? What did you want to ask me?" Maya asked as she broke the few minutes of pure silence, her voice softening slightly.
"Come with me", Carina smiled taking her over to the pool by her hand
"What are you doing?" Maya asked as Carina stood in front of the pool gate where she noticed daisy petals shredded on the grass. Carina held both of Maya's hands as she stood in front of her.
"I love you Maya Bishop and we've gone through so much but yet have remained strong. You make me the happiest woman on earth and there's no doubt that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Would you do me the honor of being Mrs. Maya DeLuca and marry me?" Carina asked as Maya wiped away tears while smiling.
"Even after I was just an ass to you, leave it Gibson, this is the happiest moment of my life", Maya answered as Jack went to speak up about the swearing, only to be guided back down to the chair by the back of his shirt by Andy. "I love you too Carina. My answer is yes. I will marry you", Maya answered as her and Carina shared a kiss while Jack and the kids applauded.
"Alright, shut up and come grab a seat for dinner already", Jack invited as Maya pulled a seat beside Carina's and grabbed a corn on the cob from the basket. "Oh, and the veggie burger is for you. I would have told you, but you were too busy screaming at everyone in your usual Maya fashion. I kind of like you and your hot doctor lover engaged. You're less of a drill sergeant when you're dating her"
"Hahaha, very funny Gibson", Maya laughed as she took the burger off the plate.
"I'm so glad you guys are getting married. Who's going to plan it?" Andy asked
"I don't know, maybe you?", Maya laughed. "I mean I don't particularly want to involve either of our parents, so you can plan it as my maid of honor, and the comedian over here can walk me down the aisle. Of course Lia can be the flower girl, as can Allison and Prue, and these two can be my ushers"
"Does that mean I have to rap? I can't", DJ asked, confusing Usher with being an usher.
"Not Usher. An usher. Ushers help people find their seats and escort the women in or men. Your uncles Travis, Ben, and Jackson were ushers at Daddy and I's wedding", Andy explained
"Does that mean I have to wear a suit?" DJ asked
"And I get to wear a princess dress?" Amelia chimed in
"Yes, and yes you do", Maya answered
"How many months do I have to plan this?" Andy asked
"Can you do it in two?" Carina asked. "I don't want to waste another minute not being married to this woman", she answered as she kissed Maya.
"I'll see what I can do. I have some help after all from the man who helped plan our wedding down to the last table card", Andy explained
"Oh no. I'm not planning another wedding with Bishop. We almost killed each other during ours. I don't know" Jack asked having been distracted by a rock paper scissors game with Rowan.
"Please. Will you help me? You'll get to help taste the cake again and I'll get to see you in a tux? Did I ever tell you you're my favorite person?" Andy asked
"You're mine too which is why I'll help you but if I have to sit in a florist's talking about flowers for over two hours again we're going to need to have a chat", Jack answered with his million-dollar smile.
"You only did that because you love me" Andy answered
"I'm doing this because I love you", he answered.
"Or, I have an idea. What if you and I got married at a courthouse with just Jack, Andy, and the kids as witnesses? Then what if we had a huge Fourth of July party/wedding reception?" Carina asked as she kissed her girlfriend
"I would say, I don't care what we do as long as I marry you. Andy my parents wouldn't beg to be involved if if was at a courthouse. It's not the big wedding Andy had, but I'm not that type anyways. I'd rather have our first dance by the pool over there in shorts and a t-shirt", Maya smiled. "And a reception on the Fourth of July means we'll have fireworks to end our night. We can go to the courthouse the day before." she added.
"No big wedding? All I have to do is plan a blowout cookout over here? I'm good with that" Jack chuckled.
"We can all have off that night", Maya added. A smile spread across her face when she realized that she wouldn't have to do any planning, leaving the party entirely up to Jack and Andy. "This is perfect. We get to get married, and I don't have to do a da- thing", she added, catching herself before cursing.
"Well I guess I need to do this then. Everyone, raise your cups of iced tea in a toast to the future Mrs. And Mrs. DeLuca" Andy laughed as she raised her glass as did Jack, Carina and Maya and the kids. The kids cheered as they clanked their cups and sippy cup together.
"I can't wait", Maya smiled as he intertwined her hand with Carina's
