This is a very bizarre chapter. Keep in mind what I said at the beginning that not all is what it seems.

Chapter 21: The Atlantis of the Sands

(Dipper and Stan enter the gate and step onto a walkway that overlooks Iram of the Pillars, a massive city of beautiful ancient buildings made of sparkling brass metal. It all looks very wealthy and luxurious. They are understandably amazed by the sight. They go down a stairway from the walkway to a pavilion where a big fountain is producing actual clear water.)

Stan: Incredible…

Dipper: This is how the city could thrive all the way out here. The whole place must be fed by an underground spring.

(He scoops up some water with his hand and drinks it.)

Dipper: It's clean. It's amazing it's still running after all these years.

(He takes off his hat and splashes some water over his head. He drinks some more water until the area around them gets darker. They walk away from the fountain over to the edge of the pavilion and see a solar eclipse up in the sky. They turn to each other.)

Stan: (smiling) Now that's a hell of a thing…

(Suddenly, a gunshot is heard. Dipper is shocked. Stan's smile drops and a red stain appears on his chest and grows rapidly.)

Stan: (softly) What-?

Dipper: No...

(Stan stumbles down. Dipper drops his hat and grabs him. He sees Giffany and Bill on a nearby ledge behind Stan staring at them. Bill holds a sniper rifle. Dipper struggles to hold Stan up.)

Dipper: (horrified) No… please. Stan...

(Stan stops breathing and lies on the ground motionless. Dipper stands up in shock breathing heavily. He then sees Giffany and Bill casually walking on a nearby platform down below from him. He glares at them angrily as a round metal gate is at the center of the platform. It opens up and a smaller platform appears like some sort of elevator. They step inside and the gate closes. Dipper, now full of rage, runs and jumps down to the elevator platform leaving Stan's body and his hat behind.)

(He drops onto the platform as the elevator descends. Some mercenaries appear in the area and shoot at him. He shoots back hits one of them. But instead of going down, the man bursts into flames and makes a strange whooshing sound. His head catches fire and his eyes turn bright red. Then he immediately vanishes in a gust of fire.)

Dipper: (shocked) Whoa! What the hell was that?

(The other mercenaries attack him and when he shoots them, they catch fire too. They even seem to start teleporting around the place. One appears before Dipper and he frantically shoots it again. It lets out a disturbing shrieking noise as the fire on its body goes out and it drops down dead. He focuses on killing the others. Another comes out of the elevator already on fire, but he quickly puts it down. When the area's clear, he enters the elevator and it closes and descends without him having to activate anything.)

(After a short moment, the door opens and he sees Bill standing right outside grinning and laughing evilly. He throws down a smoke grenade temporarily stunning Dipper and runs away. Dipper runs through the smoke after him.)

Dipper: (enraged) Bill! You come back here you son-of-a-bitch! You're dead! You hear me, you're dead!

(He chases him down a deserted city street and into a narrow alley.)

Dipper: You come back here you…

(He reaches a dead end in the alley and finds that Bill has disappeared.)

Dipper: (confused) What? Where did he go?

(A bright light from behind him reflects on the wall in front of him and he turns around. He leaves the alley and enters a deserted city street but not the one before. This street is one of a normal modern city and not an ancient lost city. He recognizes it as place he was in fifteen years ago.)

Dipper: (bewildered) This is impossible. Where the hell am I? This is Cartagena… I haven't been here since I was a kid. When I first met Stan. What's going on with me?

(He hears a strange creeping sound from behind him. He turns around and sees big spiders like the ones before coming from everywhere.)

Dipper: (disturbed) Oh shit… Oh, no!

(He makes a run for it down the street as the spiders swarm after him.)

Dipper: This can't be happening!

(He reaches a closed set of doors and opens them. When he goes through, he magically becomes fifteen years younger like he was when he was here before. He suddenly finds himself on top of buildings jumping across rooftops still running from the spiders. He drops down to a lower rooftop and an agent in a black suit appears out of nowhere from behind and tries to grab him. He slips and falls off the roof dropping his gun. Young Dipper then sees a figure before him. It's Stan pointing a gun at him and slowly walking towards him.)

Dipper: What? No, no, no, no!

(He picks up the agent's gun and points it at Stan. It's the same situation fifteen years ago when Dipper was cornered by one of Giffany's men and Stan saved him. Only this time, Stan is the one attacking him and he keeps getting closer to Dipper.)

Dipper: (scared) You're not Stan... He wouldn't do this...

(Dipper pulls the trigger on his gun. A bright light blinds him and he black out. He wakes up in the elevator. He's back to being a grownup in the present again.)

Dipper: (uneasy) No. Stay away, please. Oh God, what is this?

(He leaves the open elevator and it closes behind him. Everything around him gets blurry and appears to be swaying from side to side.)

Dipper: Everything, everything is moving. I gotta get out of here. No, no, no… Can't do this. What is this? What is happening?

(He slowly moves down the street feeling nauseated. He reaches a large barrier at the end.)

Dipper: I'm trapped. There's no way out.

(He hears the elevator from the other side of the street. It opens and more armed mercenaries come out. One has his head on fire.)

Dipper: Oh no… They're here. (angry) I'm gonna kill 'em.

(He engages in another firefight with them.)

Dipper: You killed Stan! I'll kill you all!

(As he shoots them, they get flames on their heads and bodies and their eyes glow red just like before. They also make creepy growling sounds when they set fire. He shoots them again and their fires go out before dying. When they're all down, the barrier disappears and Dipper moves forward. He gets to wide area with a fountain. More men with flaming heads and bright red eyes appear before him in gusts of fire. Dipper takes cover and opens fire at them struggling to fight them off. He remembers what he heard about the demons of the city before.)

Dipper: (hyperventilating) Fire demons… Demons... born of smokeless fire. Can't be real. Must kill them. You killed Stan! No, it can't be real. I gotta get out...

(The demons teleport around the area through bursts of flames. Dipper manages to get some hits on them when they stop moving to attack him. Their fires go out and they drop down dead. He soon kills all in the area and an opening in the wall behind the fountain appears.)

Dipper: (panting) Okay. Just hold it together, Dipper. Come on.

(He goes through and enters a wide room with pit a few feet deep. Across the room is a doorway where Stan appears waving at Dipper.)

Dipper: Stan? Stan!

(He runs over and when he reaches the doorway, a barrier suddenly appears and blocks it off.)

Dipper: No, no, no...

(He then turns around and sees a handle bar in front of him on the edge of the pit. He gets a weird feeling that he should push it. So he does and the pit immediately fills with water and becomes a pool. He looks in and sees his reflection moving by itself around the pool. He follows it to a big wheel in the floor on one side of the pool. His reflection starts turning the reflection of the wheel and so he turns the actual wheel. Nothing happens but then the reflection goes to the other side where another wheel is and turns its reflection. Dipper follows and does the same to the other wheel. Then a small object glowing brightly appears in the center of the pool.)

Dipper: (curious) Huh? What is that?

(He steps in and somehow is able to walk on the surface of the water. He stands over the glowing object and reaches down. He tries to lift it but can't.)

Dipper: (struggling) What is it?

(He pulls on it with all his might until it disappears and he finds himself face to face with his own reflection. Before he can react, his reflection grabs him and throws him towards the reflection of the room's tall ceiling in the pool. Dipper yells as he falls upward until a bright light surrounds him and he blacks out again.)

(He wakes up in the pool. Except it's empty and his surroundings aren't blurred and moving anymore. He no longer feels nauseated and panicky. Everything seems normal again. The doorway where he saw Stan is there again.)

Dipper: (breathing deeply) Oh, my God…

(He gets up and moves through the doorway, down a hallway and then down a stairway. He gets onto a walkway overlooking a massive chasm. Across the chasm, he sees more of Giffany's men coming out of a big tower and across a bridge.)

Dipper: (determined) Oh, there they are. Time to play, assholes.

(He takes his guns out and moves towards them.)

Well, that was quite the acid trip. Last chapter is up next.
