Chapter 18

"W-what?" Wally asked, his face pale, looking at him devastated like the world was crumbling around him with no way out.

Swallowing, Dick repeated himself. "We should break up, I don't think we should continue to be together anymore," the thirteen-year-old said, his voice devoid from life and serious, his words final.

"Dick, I know I messed up but does that really mean we should break up?" Wally pleaded, his voice shaky and his eyes pleading. "I promise on my life that I would never let you go again, I'll continue to look and fight for you. Please."

"You won't need to promise me that because I don't think you'll keep it," Dick spat out, turning away from the redhead.

Wally grabbed his hand, his grip hard and yet gentle. "Dick, please, don't do this. Do you really want this to end because of this? Because of a man trying to kill you and me being the stupid idiot I am? Please, Dick, I don't want our relationship to end because of this. Please. I'd rather have us fall out of love instead of this," Wally said as he gripped his hand as if he was praying.

"I don't want to be in a relationship where my partner gives up on me and doesn't trust me," Dick replied, taking his hand away. "You could have been faster but you didn't, it's not my life became at risk at that moment, it was our relationship. I trusted you, trusted you to save me, I knew you would but you gave up on me, only went after me when Batman gave my location."

"Dick," Wally started but couldn't finish, he was lost at words, his mouth opening and closing, wanting to say something, anything but couldn't. In the end, he closed his mouth and lowered his head before looking at the younger once more. "Is this really what you want?"

No.

"Yes," Dick said, ignoring the thought. "I think we should just stop this."

The redhead stared at him, his expression confused and hurt before it became indifference. "Okay," Wally said getting up. "Fine, I'll go get Miss Martian, it's her turn watching you."

Dick clenched his hands at the hurt and anger the redhead radiated, his hand itching to reach for him, to stop him and call him back, wanting to say he didn't mean it and to stay with him. In the end, he watched as the redhead leave the room, Wally pausing as he opened the door. Dick thought he would look back at him, plead with him again but in the end, the redhead closed the door shut behind him, leaving him alone in the room once more.

Staring at the door, Dick couldn't help but sniff and rub his eyes, wanting the tears to go away. He shouldn't cry over this, they were only dating for a month, this shouldn't be that devastating to him. Wally would get over it fast, the redhead would be fine. Dick was just being silly, being overdramatic. This is for the better, Dick reminded himself, he needed to do this by himself, they shouldn't be dragged into this, this was his problem, not theirs'.

Rubbing his eyes once more, he threw his blanket off and threw his legs over the edge of the bed. Taking a deep breath, he willed himself to stand up, ignoring the aching of his beaten-up body. Walking over to his desk, he grabbed his school bag and dumped all the things out, his school materials all littered in the ground.

If it was Megan's turn to watch over him, he would have at least 7 minutes before she arrives from her position at the opposite side of the manor. Bruce would have already figured out what he did if he came into the room but he would be too late.

Walking over to his closet, he grabbed his hidden Robin suit and stuffed it into his backpack before grabbing some clothes and a jacket, quickly changing into them, tossing his pajamas to the bed. Grabbing his sunglasses in the drawer of the nightstand and snatching his emergency utility belt from under his pillow, he wore the black jacket that he got and walked over to the balcony.

Looking over at the clock resting on his nightstand, he remembered about the guard shifts and trying to remember the guards' schedules as well. A light going off beside his clock made him realize that he left his phone but he turned away from it and looked at the garden below. He should leave his phone, Bruce could track him with it, better be safe than sorry.

Throwing his legs over the balcony rails, he quickly lept off, landing with a roll on the garden grass. Making sure there were no guards, he ran across the garden and quickly scaled the wall around the manor, the other side is a forest. As he reached the top he heard Megan scream, realizing his time was up, he quickly jumped off the wall, and his himself in the shadows of the forest.

He continued to run not turning back, knowing full well if he stopped now, he could be caught by either Wally or Superboy. He dashed through the forest before he came to a stop when he reached the streets. Panting, he tried to catch his breath before taking one final gulp of air and walking to the busier streets of Gotham, blending into the crowd where he would be hard to spot.

He stopped as he heard the familiar sound of a speedster speeding, he looked up to the building to see Kid Flash zipping over buildings in a frenzy, looking around frantically, his eyes crazed, but he was gone the next, zipping to the other buildings. The people around him didn't even see or hear the speedster, it was too fast.

Sighing, Dick turned away, the tears back in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he whispered before he continued to walk with the crowd.
