THE LANTERN AND THE HAWK

EARTH

EMILE HAMILTON

He had been flown to Mexico on a private plane to Area 51. "Welcome Professor Hamilton…My name is Amanda Waller."

They shake hands, "Is it Miss or Mrs.?"

"Miss."

"But please call me Amanda."

They take a cart to the main building and then walk to the hangar where they are keeping the ship. "My God." He says looking at the ship. "There is a hole in the hall…"

"Yes we theorized that she was in a battle."

He looks at Amanda, "Ma'am…I mean Amanda, have you considered asking Superman to look at this ship."

"I have, but some of my superiors don't trust him."

"And you?"

"I am hopeful, but I am also waiting for the other shoe to drop." She takes him to the medical center where they are keeping both aliens. "This one we found dead already. We also found blood traces that do not belong to the two aliens on board. We are theorizing that the other alien was sucked out into space when the ship was hit."

"May I see the live specimen." They take him to a room with a glass view of the alien with wings.

"We call her the Angel…Because of the wings."

"Chi nib ow? Ud stib rew? St'Nak ud chim nehestrev?"

'She looks scared and confused. I'm thinking she hit her head and has amnesia." Emile looks at Waller, "May I see the ship?" After several hours of looking he finds what he is looking for.

"What is that?"

"If I am right a way to communicate with the Angel." He presses the button and speaks into it, "Do you understand me now?"

"Yes I understand you now. Who are you? How did I get here?"

"Calm down…You were on a ship and it crashed onto our planet…You hit your head. We believe you lost your memories."

"Why have you locked me up?"

"Well for your safety and for ours."

"I want out of here now!" She yells punching the glass. It cracks and the more she hits it the bigger the cracks get.

"That is reinforced glass…Gas! Gas!" Amanda yells. The gas fills the room and she falls unconscious.

"We will have to build a better birdcage."

"She is not an animal Amanda."

Emile examines the lizard as they call it.

GREEN LANTERN

He flies through space protected by the green shield hugging his body. The Guardians on the advice of Sinestro decided to send Hal Jordon back to earth. When he reaches earth Hal hovers in orbit. His first priority is to find the ship and his Latern. Using his ring like a tracking device he hones in on the Latern. He flies to Nevada and lands on a mountain overlooking a secret base.

"You have got to be shitting me." He says staring at the legendary Area 51. "Better go in covertly." He flies to the base of the mountain and creates a construct of a drill and digs beneath the ground under the base. When he reaches the hangar Hal uses his ring to make a tunnel up to the ship. He cuts a hole into the ship and boards it.

Using his ring like a flash light he finds the Latern hidden in a pocket dimension. He creates another pocket dimension and then leaves the ship to go and find Shiera. Suddenly the alarms sound. As he floats up the hallway several soldiers come out blocking his path. "Put your hands up! And get down on your knees."

He sends a blast of energy at them and it becomes a large box. He bursts into the main lab. He shuts off the universal translator, "Shiera Hall I am Green Latern Hal Jordon…I have come to rescue you."

"Shiera Hall is that my name?"

"Yes." Using his ring he cuts a hole in the glass as Emile Hamilton and several guards show up.

"Wait! Hold your fire!" Emile yells, "Please who are you?"

"I am the Green Lantern of Sector 2184. I mean you no harm, but this woman must come with me."

"Open fire!" General Castle yells.

He puts up a shield that deflects the bullets. Then he flies up smashing through the roof and away from Area 51.

AMANDA WALLER

Amanda Waller arrives by helicopter and when she disembarks Emile and Castle are waiting. "What the hell happened?"

"A guy dressed in green and black showed up. Called himself the Green Lantern. He took the Bird Woman." Castle replies.

She looks at Emile, "Professor what do you think, friend or foe?"

He sighs, "If he was a threat he would have killed those men, easily. I think he is a friend, but don't quote me on that." They watch the footage.

"Do facial recognition." Amanda commands.

"He seems to his power from that ring." Emile says.

"I agree we take the ring and he is normal."

"Its just a theory."

HAL JORDAN

Hal and Shiera fly to Coastal City, his family home is in the countryside. They land a few miles away from his family's home. Hal works on the universal translator so that it looks like a broach. He has a few dollars on him and buys some clothes for Shiera who folds her wings up behind her back. "Where are we going?"

"My parent's house. I've been away from earth for a month. People may think, I'm dead." His mother answers the door and to say she is a mixture of emotions to see him is an understatement. His father had died when he was six a pilot like Hal. His Uncle lives with his mother.

"My goodness you are beautiful…" His mother says looking at Shiera, "Are the two of you engaged?"

He smiles, "No mom. She is a friend."

His Uncle rushes home from work. He is a mechanic at the Airport. "Damn boy where have you been?" He asks grabbing Hal in big hug.

"Its complicated…I am still wrapping my head around it. But when I am ready I will tell you everything."

Later Shiera is standing on the porch wearing jeans and a checkered shirt, staring up at the starlit sky. "Are you alright?"

"Fine thank you for asking."

"And your memories?"

"Slowly returning."

"I'd take you home, but you need to heal up first and your memories need to be at a hundred percent."

A few days later cousins and relatives by blood and marriage show up for an impromptu family reunion. "John you son of gun!"

John Stewart is a former marine and friend of Hal Jordon's. "Someone said you were still alive. I myself did not believe you were dead."

"Yeah I heard you didn't want to come to my memorial service."

"Man it is good to see you alive."

Hal's plane went down behind enemy lines in Afghanistan and John went in with a team to rescue him. The two men had been friends ever since. At the get together there is potato salad, fried chicken, steak, corn on the cob, barbecue ribs, macaroni, hot dogs, beer and sodas. "Shiera Hall my good friend John Stewart, John Shiera."

"Wow! I mean it is a pleasure to meet you."

She smiles, "A pleasure to meet you as well."

"So you and Shiera." John says later.

"Shiera and I are just friends my friend."

"Do you think I have a chance?"

"Um…Shiera is unlike any woman you have ever met before…"

"How so?"

"I have to show you something." After everything is over they meet at John's motel room where he is staying while in town. He shows him the ring and what he can do with it.

A few days later Hal goes to the Airforce Base to speak with his former C.O. "Hal Jordan you son of bitch!" Carol says walking up to him.

"Its good to see you as well."

"Really and where have you been? Everyone thought you were dead!"

"I don't have time for you right now. I have a meeting to get to with my former C.O."

Hal decides not to reinstate in the Airforce and is given a huge check from the government. Later he learns that because of his absence Carol was reassigned as a trainer. She left the Airforce after Hal reappeared.

SHIERA

She couldn't sleep and sneaks out of the house. She dawns her Thanagarian armor, spreads her wings and flies off. As she flies her memories return. She is betrothed to Lord General Ro Talon of the Thanagarian military. A betrothal she did not want, then the Green Lantern Abin Sur came and she was chosen to become a Lantern. And despite this the Betrothal was still in place, but with the attack and her memory loss she sees this as a way out.

As she is flying she spots some men taking bags from what the humans call a bank. The men are wearing masks and she can tell they are robbing the place. She lands on the roof of the truck. "What the hell?"

"Who are you?"

"Kill the Meta-Freak!"

They start shooting, but Shiera removes a disk from her belt and it becomes a shield. She flies off the truck and lands behind the men. Using her mace she bashes a man and sends him flying into the wall of the building, where he dies. That is when a green beam of energy takes away the guns from the other men and dumps them on the roof of the bank.

She looks up as Hal creates a fist of green energy, it then flies around knocking the bank robbers out with one punch. Hal lands by the dead man. "You killed him." He says looking at Shiera.

"Of course he is a criminal. That is how we deal with those who break the law on Thanagar."

"This is not Thanagar this is earth. We have laws!"

"Archaic laws!"

The sirens echo through the streets, "Come we have to get out of here."
