We are heroes CHAPTER 17
The next time she woke up she was surprised that Annabeth was sitting next to her she came alert when she saw that she was awake.
"Hey, you're awake thank the gods…we thought…you need to let her heal you." Annabeth stated Sam had to blink a couple times to understand her.
"What?"
"You wouldn't wake up, you slept the day away, its just before midnight. Artemis says we should be ready at dawn. The others have arrived and ready…you need to let her heal you, Artemis said that you were stopping Athena from healing you. Why?"
"You should get some rest." Sam told her
"No, you need to let her heal you."
"I can't, he is 18, he has a sister and friends…a life. I will not cut it short."
"You want to protect him, I understand that. But refusing to fight? Won't that put him in more danger? He's going to fight we all are…we need you."
"You overestimate me, you don't need me. You won the Titan war, they've won their own wars… you working together…you don't need me." Sam stated pulling her arm back seeming Annabeth had grabbed it.
Meanwhile outside Artemis stood watch over her Hunters turning to look up at the moon.
"You know she is needed in this fight." Artemis stated sitting crossed leg with her bow over her lap.
"I know." Athena stated leaning against a tree she looked back towards the building Anna was in.
"You need to heal her."
"She is refusing my aide." Athena stated at this Artemis turned to look at her, she did not say anything but Athena heard the message. "If I force my power into her, you know what happens."
"With her curse in effect you don't want to hurt her anymore. I understand, but she is still needed in this fight. If you cannot talk her into accepting your aide." Artemis stopped speaking instead she turned back to look at the moon. Athena was deep in thought, if she forced her power into Anna in a sense Anna would lose her freewill, she would be forced to do what Athena wanted her to do not to mention she would lose her father's abilities that she inherited. "You know what needs to be done to stop what is coming, she will understand." Artemis added but did not really need to as Athena already knew what she was going to do.
Back in Sam's room Annabeth was still trying to convince her to let Athena heal her but Sam was very good at ignoring people when she wanted to. It wasn't that hard either considering she was focusing on the pain so was tuning out Annabeth's voice. It took her a minute to realize that Annabeth had actually stopped talking so Sam turned to look at her only to tense as she saw who had grabbed Annabeth's attention.
"Go away." Sam stated
"Anna."
"Go away, I don't want you here." Sam interrupted ignoring the burn on her arm compared to the rest of her body that burn was nothing.
"You have been blocking me out."
"You couldn't take the hint?" Sam retorted only to wince as Athena began to frown with her eyes not quite anger but slight disappointment. "Sorry." Sam mumbled looking down.
"You know why I am here, make this easy please, take my help." Athena stated surprising Annabeth who had moved out of the way for Athena as she took a step into the room.
"No, go away." Sam tried to hold her ground, but not only was she feeling the effect of the poison but now she had the added bonus of the bond pressure for disrespecting Athena to add to what she was feeling not to mention this longing she felt in her heart but that one she was doing her best to ignore.
"Anna." Athena repeated stepping closer to her Sam tried moving back in the bed but it sent her body in a spasm of pain she couldn't stop the cry of pain. Athena was right next to the bed now and Sam was actually in tears.
"Please don't do this." Sam begged, she saw the look in Athena's eyes change to one of empathy. "I have a plan…please don't." Sam cried brushing the tears from her eyes so that she could hold Athena's gaze.
"Will you let me help?" Athena asked once again it was clear she wanted Sam to agree, that it would be easier on them both if Sam just took Athena's help. But Sam shook her head refusing.
"I have a plan." Sam tried again, but Athena knew that it was not really a plan. It was a gamble, one that had 0.1% of succeeding. One Athena did not approve of.
"I'm sorry Anna." Athena stated picking up her hand, Sam panicked and tried to pull her hand back but it was already too late. As soon as Athena made contact her power began to flood Sam's system destroying the poison within her. Sam's entire body relaxed as she locked eyes on Athena she could feel the warmth of her power encircle her, she felt all light and fluffy inside before she ended up losing conscience. The black lines began to disappear and her golden complexion returned as her breathing evened out. Athena stepped back turning to look at her daughter who looked concerned but that turned to confusion. "She will fight with you tomorrow, you should get some rest…tomorrow is going to be difficult."
"What did you do?" Annabeth asked feeling comfortable enough to actually ask this question.
"She is healed." Athena replied, "When she wakes she will fight."
"She was scared, before you touched her…she was scared." Annabeth stated as Athena stopped in front of her looking down to her daughter she placed her hand on her shoulder.
"You should get some rest." Athena stated before walking out of the room, if Annabeth followed she would have seen her mother disappear down the hall instead she moved over to Sam who looked to perfectly fine now, she was just asleep.
"Annabeth." Percy came into the room
"What are you doing here?" Annabeth asked
"Looking for you, I just finished looking over the defenses. Chiron says we should get some sleep before the fight."
"You spoke to Chiron?"
"Yeah, he messaged me. Come on you've been up for the last two days you need some rest…she's looking better. That's good." Percy stated looking at Sam.
"My mum healed her." Annabeth replied as Percy took her hand
"We should get some rest." He stated and Annabeth nodded, Percy looked like he needed it but she knew him he wouldn't sleep without knowing she was getting some rest. They went to their separate rooms that they had been given.
