With the discovery of the tracks, the group decided to rest for the night. Leo started a small fire, not wanting to set every aflame, while everyone else set up tents. Annabeth watched with disdain as Percy interacted with Perrie. The two were sickening, and not in the cute way.
Everyone had gone to sleep by now, besides the trio. The couple were quietly talking, a serious expression on their faces. Annabeth was disgusted.
"Hey," Percy said, turning to the daughter of Athena. "We're gonna head to bed. See you in the morning." Annabeth made a vague noise to signal she heard, watching the couple leave.
Once they had entered their tent, she stood. She trekked a few miles away from the others. There had to be no chance of anyone overhearing her. Grabbing the medallion out of her pocket, she muttered an incantation under her breath. Before her eyes, a shadowy figure emerged.
"How is it going?" Annabeth asked, a glint of madness in her eye.
He was quiet for a moment before sighing, which echoed around them. "There's been a slight… mishap, to the plan."
The smile dropped from her face, turning serious and deadly. "What?"
"The child, she is gone. Someone has taken her."
"Yes, I know. You were the one to take her, were you not?"
"I did take her, originally, but someone stole her from me. I don't know how. One second she was there, another she wasn't. It felt… strange. Almost as if something took over me for a moment, making me frozen. I don't know what it was, but I don't like it."
Eyes wide and jaw clenched, Annabeth glared at the man. He had one job! One fucking job! And he couldn't even do that right!
"You will find the girl, or I will kill you."
2 DAYS 3 HOURS 57 MINUTES 4 SECONDS
Atlanta stared down at her wrist, watching the seconds tick by. She was so close.
Madeleine gently grabbed her wrist and pushed it down, stepping into her vision. "Atlanta, you need to focus. Don't worry about the clock, it'll happen when it happens. Right now, we need to keep looking."
She knew this. She did, really. Her nerves were just overpowering her mind, she couldn't stop thinking of the ticking of seconds, almost like a bomb in her brain. But the girl was right, they needed to focus.
With a deep sigh, Atlanta looked up. "You're right. We need to keep looking. Otherwise, that little girl is lost for good."
The two continue their search, stepping over branches and moss, swatting bugs from their faces. With only Madeleines light, the two journeyed.
The redhead's hands glowed, lit up like a lightning bug in a jar underneath her skin. It was her thing. The power she had either inherited or evolved with, who knows. She had her own special thing, just as Atlanta could sense and control water, including the water in people.
The girls knew that soon, something big would happen. The fight they had been trained for for years, would finally occur. And even though their friends and team couldn't be their, it was also good. Because Atlanta will finally get what she's been fighting for.
Her dad.
