Hermione looked around. She felt like everyone was watching her, or maybe they were staring at Harry?

"It's going to be alright," he promised, pretending that he didn't notice their glances. "We'll get the paperwork filled out, sign it, and then you'll be free."

Hermione nodded, wondering if she would ever truly be free. The gloom still hung over her. There was a chance this wouldn't work out. What if he wouldn't sign? Could she be free of him if he refused?

"Hermione?"

"Sorry, I... I got lost in my thoughts. We want the third floor, then?"

"Yes," Harry answered, leading the way. Hermione followed him, wondering what Ron would do once he was served with the papers. He'd cheated on her, that had to mean something, didn't it?

"Here we are, magical marriages," Harry read from the door. Hermione nodded.

"Want me to come in with you?"

"No, I think, maybe I need to do this myself. I don't need you to be my savior, Harry. You've done that already," Hermione stated, pushing the door open and stepping inside.

"Can I help you?"

"I would like to annul my marriage," Hermione stated. The witch looked up at her in interest.

"For what reason?" she asked. Hermione tried to fight the anxiety rising in her chest.

"He cheated on me, threw away my medication," Hermione answered, hoping that would be enough.

"Does your marriage contract have an infidelity cause?"

Hermione paused, trying to remember. She was sure she read it, she had hadn't she?

"I don't remember," she was forced to admit.

"Let's see if we can find it. Name?"

"Hermione Granger, married to Ronald Weasley."

"Just a moment," the witch said, rising and walking through a door that read file room. She returned a few moments later with a scroll.

"Here it is, let's see. Ahh, there's a problem, your marriage contract does not allow you to divorce for your husband's infidelity."

Hermione stared at her, she never would have signed something like that. She remembered being in love with Ron. At least she thought it had been love.

"So he can divorce me if I cheated?" she asked.

"Yes, if you were unfaithful, it would cause an annulment in the marriage," the witch stated. "It's an old traditional contract, Mrs. Weasley, very common among pure-blood families."

"I see, thank you for your time," Hermione stated, trying to keep from crying. "May I have a copy of the contract?" she asked. The witch nodded, waving her wand over and producing a copy. She handed it to Hermione.

Hermione nodded, looking down at her and Ron's signatures. She should have known this wasn't going to be easy. She wondered what would happen if she confessed to what she'd done. If anyone knew about her and Severus, what would happen then? She managed to exit the office. Harry was waiting for her.

"It didn't go well, did it?"

"No, I think Ron switched something in the paperwork. I can't divorce him for him cheating, but he can leave me for doing the same. That hardly seems like something I would have signed, does it?"

"No. It doesn't. You think he forged your signature?"

"No," Hermione answered, holding out the parchment. "I know he did," she stated. "Looks like I'm going to have to go talk to him after all if I want to get rid of him."

"Hermione, you shouldn't have to face him. After what he's done. I could sleep with you, it would break the contract, wouldn't it?"

Hermione stared at Harry before laughing softly.

"Harry, I don't need you to save me. You're like a brother to me, if I wanted to cheat on Ron, I would have... We need to go see Severus," Hermione said, suddenly.

"Snape? What's he got to do with anything?" Harry asked, looking confused.

"Everything," she answered, leading Harry out of the ministry towards Diagon Alley.
