Wednesday May 25th 2022

Jamie accidentally woke Eddie up while he was getting ready for work when his phone rang.

"Sorry." He said and silenced it.

"Huh it's okay, I couldn't sleep anyway." Eddie got up and started to make the bed.

"Oh why's that?" Jamie asked curiously.

"Big day ya know?" She said trying not to say a lot.

"Yeah but you couldn't sleep?" Jamie questioned, Eddie didn't say anything just moved to the other side of the bed to make it letting out a sigh.

"Hey...?" Jamie grabbed her arm wanting her to look and talk to him.

"Whats wrong!?" He asked seeing her starting to cry he was not expecting this at 5:30am.

"...She's a year old Jamie...I don't want her to grow up yet, I'm not ready!" She said bawling her eyes out and quickly laying her head on his chest wanting him to hug her and comfort her.

"Eddie c'mon, stop..." he said and hugged her back.

"She's my baby...our baby!" She kept the water works coming, getting his shirt he just put on all wet with tears.

"She's always going to be that Eddie, I think you need to take a step back and realize that." He said still hugging her. She tried to listen to him and collect herself but it was tough.

"And it's Emmalyn's last day..." she started up again. Jamie understood this was a lot for one day but he just didn't get emotional about it like this.

"She's going to love Kindergarten..." he said, Eddie knew that. She knew it would be great for her too.

"Honey I gotta go I'm sorry..." he said seeing the time on the clock. She got off of him and wiped away her tears taking some breaths.

"Don't be upset please. It's a happy day, I'll see you tonight for dinner and we can do the presents, cake and all that fun stuff you couldn't wait to do remember?" He said.

"Yeah.." she nodded, Jamie grabbed her face and kissed her.

"I love you, have a good day okay?" He told her.

"I know. I will..." she said and Jamie went off to work.

Eddie and Emmalyn went into Scarletts room singing happy birthday when she woke up at 7:30. She loved it and was all smiles.

"Happy birthday big girl!" Eddie said when she got her out of her crib and squeezed her.

"Mommy, I want to see her!" Emmalyn told her wanting Eddie to put her down. She gave her a big hug and kiss.

"You're ONE YEARS OLD! That's this many." Emmalyn told her and held up a finger. Scarlett obviously didn't really care and walked over to climb up on the rocking chair instead.

"Okay monkey, no, let's go out and eat." Eddie took her hand and brought her out to the living room to play. She ran right to her high chair wanting to eat and Emmalyn climbed right into a chair too.

"What's for breakfast mommy?" She asked.

"I think I'm gonna have a bagel with cream cheese and fruit, would you like that or something else?" Eddie said getting it all out.

"I want that." Emmalyn said.

"Ehh!" Scarlett yelled in the background of Eddie and Emmalyn's conversation.

"Okay well it's gonna take me a second to make it if you want to go play for a little." Eddie suggested.

"No I'll wait." Emmalyn said.

"EHH!" Emmalyn yelled louder after no one paid attention to her.

"Okay...what is she yelling about?" Eddie asked Emmalyn while she cut up fruit for all of them.

"Um I don't know, Scarlett what do you want?" She asked her, she just looked at Em and then kept trying to climb into her high chair.

"Ohh I think she wants to sit in her high chair." Emmalyn told Eddie.

"WAHH!" Scarlett yelled again.

"Okay Scar, geez." Eddie put the knife down, licked her fingers and went to put her in the seat.

"You gotta be patient sweetie...there's nothing on the tray, I'm getting it." Eddie said going back to cut up the fruit. She was still being fussy and impatient.

"Em why don't you get both your guys cups out, see if she wants that." Eddie told her.

Emmalyn did and as soon as she put Scarletts cup on her tray she threw it on the floor.

"Huh!" Emmalyn said shocked she did that.

"Scarlett Elaina...!" Eddie exclaimed shaking her head at the naughtiness. Emmalyn picked it up off the floor and gave it to her again but she did the same thing.

"Scarlett!" Emmalyn said angrily at her behavior.

"Okay Em leave it there, now she doesn't get it." Eddie said and brought over breakfast for everyone.

"Will this make you happy?" Eddie asked Scarlett putting pieces of fruit and Cheerios on her tray.

"You stink!" Eddie said smelling the air around her, she took her out of the high chair and into her room to get changed.

"No wonder you're throwing a fit, I wouldn't want to sit in this." Eddie said cleaning her up.

Afterward she was a happy little girl. Eddie got Emmalyn dressed and ready for school, today was her last day of Pre-K so Eddie was again feeling a lot of emotion realizing she was growing up fast too. She got them both packed up into the car and off they went.

While Emmalyn was at school Eddie and Scarlett picked up dry cleaning, went to the grocery store, and picked up Scarletts cake from the bakery for later.

She got home giving herself an hour before she had to go pick up Em from school, she got all the groceries away, finished wrapping up a few gifts for Scarlett and also something for Em to celebrate it being her last day.

When Eddie and Scarlett got to the preschool to pick up Emmalyn for the last time Eddie starting getting emotional again. Sydney was such a great teacher, even though Eddie wasn't always fond of her for other personal reasons, she still hoped she liked Emmalyn's next teacher just as much, if not more.

The classroom door opened signaling it was time for the kids to find their parents and go home. Eddie was one of the first parents in line and as soon as she saw Emmalyn give Sydney one last hug goodbye she started crying.

"You have a good summer okay!? You're going to love kindergarten I promise!" Sydney told her.

"I know." Emmalyn said and smiled at her, then walked out to Eddie.

"Mommy I made Scarlett something!" She said and wanted to get it out of her bag.

"Okay hold on Em, when we get home you can show me!" Eddie said and then looked up to talk to Sydney.

"Thank you so much for everything, she learned so much from you." Eddie said.

"Of course, she was a pleasure. And she will do fantastic in kindergarten I know it!" Sydney reassured her, seeing her upset.

"Yeah I know, it's just crazy how grown up she's getting you know!?" Eddie said.

"I know, but hey you got another one that's still got long ways to go!" Sydney said pointing to Scarlett in her arms. Eddie was all up in her emotions about today and gave Sydney a hug (awkward?) saying thank you. They all waved and went on their way to go see Jamie at work. He hasn't seen the girls yet today and Eddie thought it would make her day better, but she also didn't want him to miss out.

Eddie took both girls back to Jamie's office, he was on the computer.

"Daddy!" Emmalyn said and rushed over to see him. He turned around caught off guard seeing Eddie and the girls there.

"Hey! What are you doing here? How was your last day!?" He asked and gave her a hug and lifted her up to sit on his lap.

"Good! Did you know it's Scarletts birthday too!?" She asked. Jamie laughed and looked at Eddie who was holding her.

"I did!" He let Emmalyn down and then stood up and walked over to take Scarlett from Eddie.

"Hi birthday girl, I missed you this morning." He said giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"Yeah, she slept until 7:30!" Eddie said.

"Wow...one year old and already being a big girl huh?" He said, Eddie forced a smile.

"And how's mommy doing today?" He asked raising his eyebrow at her, remembering her little moment this morning before he left for work.

"I'm okay." She said trying to be strong, but Jamie saw the lie in her eyes. He put his hand on her shoulder and kissed her forehead.

"Daddy what's this?" Emmalyn asked picking up a computer hard drive on his desk.

"Uh don't touch that please." Jamie quickly took it out of her hands before she dropped it and put it back on his desk.

"But, what is it?" She proceeded to still wonder.

"It's not a toy, it's from a computer." He said.

"Oh. Are you going to be home to watch Scarlett open her presents." She asked him.

"Of course I am." He said as Scarlett was touching everything on Jamie's uniform.

"We should get going so daddy can get back to work and be home in time to do that okay?" Eddie said and went to take Scarlett from Jamie. He kissed them all goodbye and they left.

Later that night they were all sitting down just finishing dinner, Eddie was clearing the table to get the cake out and open presents. Jamie lit the candle and held it in-front of Scarlett while the 3 of them sang happy birthday to her. She got scared and started crying halfway through the song, Jamie and Eddie couldn't help but laugh and blow it out for her at the end. She was mortified by the flame and lifted her arms up wanting Eddie to get her out and hold her.

"Aww no, look Scar it's all done. You're okay!" She laughed. Jamie set the cake down and took out the candle.

"Yeah see? All gone." He said and she looked at Jamie unsure.

"Eat it!" Emmalyn told her, she was excited to have a piece of cake as soon as she could.

"Try it sweetie, get it." Eddie said and pointed at the cake in-front of her, encouraging her to smash it. She just looked at it not sure if she was allowed to touch it.

"She's like, I don't know..." Jamie said waiting. Eddie picked up her hand and pushed it into some of the icing.

"Oooo what is that!?" Eddie said excited so she wouldn't cry and know it's fun. She picked her hand up and looked at it and then slowly brought her fingers to her mouth to taste it.

"Ha...is it yummy?" Jamie asked her.

"I want some!" Emmalyn said.

"Just wait, let her have some, it's her cake.." Eddie told her. Scarlett put her hand in it again to get more.

"There ya go! Get it!" Eddie said smiling.

"Ugh this is gonna take foreverrrr." Emmalyn said dramatically. They laughed at her and decided to let her open her present awhile.

"Huh!" She said when she saw what it was.

"Do you like it!?" Eddie asked her, she was all smiles looking at the backpack they got her full of crayons, paper, coloring books, stickers, stamps, etc.

"Can we do it?" She asked looking at the stamps. Jamie told her later after Scarlett opened her presents. Which reminded Emmalyn that she made Scarlett a card at school. She got it out of her old back pack and tried to give it to Scarlett, but she was more interested in the cake.

"How bout you read it to her instead?" Jamie said realizing it was scribbled pictures and lines.

"Okay. It says, Happy Birthday Scarlett. I love you so much, you're the best sister ever." Emmalyn said pretending she could read her own scribbles and closed the card.

"Aw that's very nice Em, did you make that at school or with mommy?" Jamie asked and looked at Eddie.

"...Eddie.?" He sighed and laughed when he saw her crying once again.

"I made it at school. It's not a sad card mommy." Emmalyn said confused at why she was crying. Jamie leaned toward her and rubbed her back.

"Hey..stop..." Jamie mouthed quietly.

"I know, I can't. Huh. I'll be right back." She got up and quickly went off.

"She knows it's not a sad card Em, she just can't believe how big you and Scarlett are getting! Do you want a piece of cake?" He asked to redirect her attention. She obviously said yes and Jamie took the cake from Scarlett who would definitely need a bath, purple and blue icing was all over everything. He gave Emmalyn her piece with a cup of milk and then decided to go check on Eddie.

"Eddie?" He walked into their bathroom where she was wiping her face with tissues.

"I don't know why I'm so emotional about today, I'm sorry." She said.

"It's okay...It is a little surreal but it's all part of being parents." He told her.

"I know. Huh. I know." She started to collect herself and Jamie patiently stood there wanting to say something else.

"...Hey, have you thought about taking a pregnancy test...?" He asked nicely. Eddie bugged her eyes out at him in shock he just said that.

"What?" He asked when he saw her reaction.

"C'mon Jamie." She said shaking her head and blowing her nose.

"Eddie I think it's a good idea..! You haven't been this emotional since you were pregnant with Scarlett." He said. She didn't say anything just stood still thinking about it. Jamie opened the drawer under the vanity and set the box of tests in front of her on the counter.

"Huh. Jamie I can't believe you're making me do this. You know I'm not, it's just gonna make me more upset when it's negative, am I not allowed to cry or show any emotion about our kids growing up faster then my eyes can even see!?" She asked.

"Just take the test." He said and walked out of the bathroom to get back to the girls. "Unbelievable" she thought watching him walk away. She ripped open a test.
