Back in the dark, Junko clicked send on her mass email to the reserve course students. "Let's see how many get caught in my web."
Izuru, who was staring back lifelessly, replied, "Most likely 80%. The rest will probably watch it when those that were affected share it like they were programmed to."
"Sh-Share what?" Mikan cried out. She was still huddling behind Izuru as if he could help her.
Junko smirked, "A video I made. Here, I'll let you get a sneak peek!" And she hit play, watching as Mikan's eyes grew wider.
A Few Weeks Later
Chisa Yukizome stood before her 16 students. Hajime and Mikan were still missing and the rest of the class didn't have the energy they once had. Even Akane was feeling down from her usual energetic self.
Natsumi looked out the window at her former classmates protesting at the gate of the main campus. "They weren't that motivated when I was in class with them." She mentioned it to her brother, "What the hell happened?"
Fuyuhiko responded, "I don't know, but it has that bitch Enoshima's stench all over it..."
Peko was still sitting behind Fuyuhiko, "I haven't seen her on campus anywhere. It's like she vanished."
"Maybe the coward ran." Natsumi scoffed.
Mahiru joined in, "And took Hajime and Mikan with her?"
Just, then a woman in her mid-20s came into the room sitting in a motorized wheelchair. There was a monitor with a Magical Girl Bunny smiling on the front. No one had told them about this happening, so every student stared in awe.
Chisa told her class, "Class, this is Miaya Gekkogahara. She is the Ultimate Therapist."
"What's with the pink furball?" Hiyoko asked.
The Rabbit, instead of the girl, responded, "I am Usami, I'm the Avatar for Gekkogahara. She is kind of shy so I talk for her!"
"A shy Therapist?" Ibuki laughed, "Isn't that strange?"
Chisa shook her head, "Not at all. Therapists need to listen more than talk anyway."
"So why is the bunny here?"
Looking a bit perturbed, the rabbit held her paws together. "I'm here to talk to you about the scene you all saw, and not to mention your missing classmates."
Meanwhile, in Class 78's classroom, everyone was doing what they normally did, when Makoto walked up to Mukuro. "Hey, Ikusaba?"
"What's up, Naegi?" Mukuro responded.
"Have you seen your sister? I haven't seen Enoshima in ages." Makoto asked.
Mukuro almost wanted to hit herself for the way she lied next, "She probably needed to do something off-campus. A social call, since she's a model and all."
Makoto smiled in relief, "Oh okay, that's good. Well, I'm here if you need someone to talk to. I know I'm not your sister but I will do my best."
Mukuro nodded stiffly and as he walked away, Mukuro whispered, "Thank God for that." A thousand voices told her to stay when she glanced at her watch, knowing the time had come for her to go. She glanced at Makoto one more time and reluctantly left the classroom.
Over in the special new classroom, every one of the students there were practicing their talents, except for Shuichi, who was dodging each punch and kick from Tenko Chabashira.
Tenko shouted through her punches, "You are good at Neo Aikido for a degenerate male, Saihara!"
"Thank You?" Shuichi gasped out.
Tenko landed a punch on Shuichi's abdomen, causing him to gasp for breath. "No problem!"
Shuichi was helping his classmate hone their talents since he couldn't do anything for his talent without a case to work. His partner Kirigiri had told him she was hired for a case and would fill him in when she knew more. He just hoped she was okay.
As he used a nearby table to pull himself back up, Himiko ran over to them. "Tenko, are you done playing with Shuichi? I need someone to practice my sawing in half magic on."
Tenko replied with hearts practically in her eyes, "He's all yours Himiko!"
"Joy," Shuichi whined.
Himiko just smiled and dragged him off, with Tenko following close behind.
Yasuke Matsuda was sitting in a room interviewing a red-headed girl, who was smiling at him brightly. "Can you remember anything without your notebook yet?"
The girl, who was named Ryoko Otonashi, smiled at him and replied, "Nope! Sorry, Matsuda sweetie."
Yasuke responded, "I figured you wouldn't be smart enough to do that."
Ryoko scribbled away in her notebook while Yasuke whispered into his recording device. "It looks like my neurological skills are still working. Enoshima still hasn't remembered her true self."
"Did you say something, sweetheart?" Ryoko beamed.
"No, idiot. I didn't say anything."
"Okay!"
Kyoko went to meet one of the higher-ups in the school. They were called the Steering Committee, and they were the real power behind the school. Her father was just a figurehead. Someone to take public control of the school and take public blame if anything bad happened., like what happened with the student council massacre.
That reminded her, she looked online for information about the massacre on an outside website, but there was no mention of it. or of the Reserve course mass protests. It was like all information about Hope's peak was being censored from the public, and Kyoko thought the Steering Committee was behind it.
As she stood there, one of the Steering Committee members walked up to her. "You wanted to see me?" Kyoko asked.
"Yes, I did." The committee member replied, "I wanted to tell you the truth about our chairman."
"What truth?"
"She has kids here at Hope's peak."
"Do you know who the kids are?"
"They are-"
Just then, the committee was silenced by a falling object. Only a bit surprised by this, Kyoko took his pulse and felt nothing. The object had crushed his head. It was instant.
She looked up and saw a figure upon the roof. "It looks like someone doesn't want me to discover the truth."
Chiaki sat in front of Miaya, rather in front of her monitor and Usami. The former had asked to meet with Miaya first in a quiet room, and so they sat.
Usami asked, "So how are you feeling, Nanami?"
Chiaki couldn't hide her fear inside. It was something she had learned over her time here at Hope's Peak. "I'm worried that I will never see my friends again."
Usami looked puzzled, "Is that so? Most classmates here don't even spend any time together."
"That's how we were until Miss Yukizome made us come to class."
"Really? Why did she do that?"
"She said talent wasn't as important as forming bonds of hope."
"And did you believe her?"
"Well, I have always felt talent wasn't the end game."
"That is very strange for a student from here. If you just hone your talents here, you would be set for life. Why make connections?"
"Because without friends to share your achievements with, what is the point?!" Chiaki shouted, but then realized her anger wasn't needed now. "I enjoy my games, but playing them with others is fun and isn't as lonely."
"When Yukizome was gone for those months, you brought your classmates together didn't you?"
"I just didn't want anyone to feel sad if I could help it. I always felt sad when I was playing games alone. I thought no one else enjoyed them like I did until I met Hinata by the fountain that day. And later when all of us played together in class, I was so happy." Chiaki smiled to herself, remembering the fun times she had.
"Interesting!"
"Plus it's not just my talent, we help Tanaka with his animals, help Hamanura with his cooking when he's not hitting on us, dance with Saionji, and we pose for Koizumi's pictures. It's fun doing stuff together."
"It seems like you love your classmates very much."
"I do," Chiaki murmured with tears in her eyes. "And after seeing all those bodies I can't help but worry that Hinata and Tsumiki are like that somewhere and no one will ever know."
After a moment of silence from the rabbit, another voice was heard. Chiaki then realized that it must have been Miaya's own.
"You...You have a big heart." Miaya murmured behind her scarf, her own eyes thoughtful yet scared. And despite not knowing each other well, the two embraced.
"I just want them to be okay…" Chiaki shook her head, trying to free herself from the tears that slipped down her cheeks.
Seeing this girl's immense pain, Miaya hoped that whatever was happening at the academy wouldn't break her spirit, but instead make her stronger. A soul like Chiaki Nanami's was a light among the darkness of the current school. If anything broke her spirit, Miaya was sure that the world would break along with it.
