The Trial Part one
Harry Potter woke up on the day of the trial confused but well rested. He was confused do to the golden haze that seemed to fill his vision, along with the weight on his chest. He lay there for a few moments wondering what was going on. That is until he remembered the events of the day before, and the fact that he had went to sleep in the arms of his wife. Now recognizing the glow as being Daphne's hair he felt the blush rise to his cheeks again. This was going to take some getting used to.
He carefully moved the offending hair and looked down to his still sleeping wife. He couldn't help the smile that formed. When he had come back, he hadn't expected something like this to happen. He had never expected to actually fall in love with the girl. Sure, Odin had told him that they were soul mates but what was a soul mate really? How could one just fall in love? That had been his thoughts since coming back. When he had first meet her in the ally, he just thought they would end up being great friends. But oh how that had quickly changed.
Daphne had quickly snaked her way into his hart. As they shared their hopes and dreams for the future. How she wanted to become an enchantress. He remembered her blush a few months back when she had admitted to wanting to have a family. Nothing outrages like seven children but two or three were perfect. He had found himself thinking the same.
But as they had begun talk of the future it really made him think of what he wanted. He had always wanted to be an Auror for the ministry since finding out his dad and Sirius had been one. But now as he held his wife, he couldn't help but think of the dangers involved. Aurors got hurt all the time. Could he put Daphne through the worry of wondering if he would come home? For that matter did he really want to fight the forces of darkness his whole life. He had already been doing it since he was eleven. Then he thought of Moody. The man had been doing it his whole adult life and was nuttier than a fruit cake.
He had also thought of professional quidditch and that now didn't really appeal either. He had enjoyed the game while playing sure. But it was more the exhilaration of flying that he liked. If he went pro, he would have to travel all the time. None of that seemed fair to Daphne or any children. If he was to be sitting in McGonagall's office right now, well he didn't think he could answer. It kind of made him sad, after wanting something for so long just to not be interested anymore. It was like a piece of him was missing that he couldn't remember what it was. What was in his future now?
As he lay there pondering life and its meanings his wife started to stir in his arms. He looked down to see her barely lifting her head, and blinking sleep from her sapphire eyes. Oh, how he loved those eyes. And that was when he knew one thing for sure. He never wanted to wake up without her again. "Good morning sunshine." He said softly.
She looked up at his owlishly before giving him a dazzling smile. "Good morning. Did you sleep ok?" She asked shyly. This was all new and more than a bit confusing. They were thirteen and forced to marry just because they were meant to be together. Sure, He thought they would have gotten married eventually, but he felt it would have been easier on their time.
"I slept wonderfully, and you?" He wasn't lying it had been the best sleep he had had, this life or the last.
"Wonderfully." She said snuggling into him again. "This is weird, but also wonderful at the same time."
"I know what you mean it kind of surreal. We're only thirteen and married. I… I think we should probably talk about this. You know ab… about us." Harrys blush had returned in full.
"Y-y-you mean like us… being… physical?" She was now sporting a blush to match.
"Yes I…I… well I'm not sure I'm ready for that. You know. Maybe in a year or two, but now just seems to be a little… Fast." He couldn't believe he was having this conversation. Sure, he had fooled around with Ginny, obviously, as she was pregnant when he had died. It had been at Bill and Fleurs' wedding, they had snuck off shortly after the first song. It wasn't romantic and was more out of a sense of duty on his part. Not even to mention the fact that he was potioned to the gills. Looking back, he wondered if he was under a lust potion to help things along. This was different. He wanted to make sure they were both ready and when the time came, he wanted it to be special.
"I… I think that would be the best. I'm not ready for that. Part of me hates that that law was passed. But at the same time, I love that I get to wake up and go to sleep with you." The goofy grin was back on her face.
"To true." He smiled back.
"We should probably get up. We have the trial today at eleven. What time is it anyway?" She said through a soft yawn.
Harry reached out to the bedside table for his wand and cast a tempest. "Its eight now. Why don't you go take a shower and I'll start picking out my cloths and such?"
"That sounds good." She moved to get up and looked back and gave him a sly smile, "No peaking." Harry couldn't think as he watched her sashay away. They may not be ready to actually do anything but bloody hell if his hormones weren't coming in full affect.
"Bloody hell," He said as he thought of that, "I have to go through puberty again…" He hadn't really had time to think about it. Sure, his voice had changed over the year and was now a few octaves lower than it had been at the start of August. But then he remembered the rest of puberty. This was going to suck.
An hour and thirty minutes later found them dressed and entering the defense office. Their friends already there and looking a bit tired. Remus was there but there was no sign of Sirius. He had been brought to a different location to turn himself over to Amelia and a few trusted Aurors. Harry was nervous, he couldn't help but worry that something bad was going to happen at the trial.
"Well if it isn't the two love birds. Bet you two were up AAAALLL night." Teased Tracy causing the two of them to blush again.
"Shut up Tracy or I may start talking about that conversation we had a few days ago." Daphne hissed at her. Tracy went pale, as the rest of them wondered what Daphne meant.
"I think we should get going before this conversation devolves into something I don't need to know about." Remus said with a smile.
They left the castle and made their way down to Hogsmeade. They would flew from the Three Broom Sticks to the Ministry atrium. Then it was to the lifts and down to court room ten. Harry couldn't help the small shutter at the thought of the court room. He really hated the thought of going to the Ministry at all.
To help him not to think on it too much he turned to Neville. "So how was your first night as a badger?"
Neville smiled. "It was actually really fun! We got introduced to everyone by Sprout and then they threw a small welcome party. We had something called s'mores and hot cocoa. Cedric Diggory was in charge of telling ghost stories and it was pretty fun."
"That's good I'm glad to hear it. I also wanted to tell you that I'm sorry you were put in that situation." He truly was, he knew it wasn't really his fault but still… if Neville and the twins weren't friends with him, they would still be in the lion's den.
"Don't be Harry. I think it would have happened eventually anyway." He gave a small sideways glance at Tracy that made Harry wonder about his shy friend.
He didn't have much time to ask him about it as they reached the Broomsticks. Once inside and paying Rosmerta for the use of the flew they were off. Stepping out of the flew at the Ministry was a new experience for him. Instead of falling flat on his face and sliding a few feet he managed to actually come out quite gracefully. Not as graceful as Daphne and the other Slytherins. But definitely more so than Neville. He didn't fall on his face but had to stumble for a moment. Harry couldn't help wondering what was different this time. Then he thought about how he was an animagus now. Maybe the old saying that cats always landed on their feet transferred from his form.
As they walked through the atrium brought back the fateful night in his fifth year. Flashed of moving statues and two clashing forces flashed before his eyes. His eyes welled with unshed tears as he remembered Sirius falling through the veil. No one but Daphne noticed the change in their friends demeanor as he slowly made his way to the lift. She put her hand in his for quite support. He looked over and gave her a soft smile.
'That future will never come to pass.' He thought. He will do everything in his power to prevent anyone he loved from dying this time.
They finally reached the court room. He was surprised at how packed it was. Reporters getting their quills and pads ready for notes. Regular citizens were milling about as they waited for the meeting to start. It was shocking to see this many people who would come for something as boring as a normal Wizengamot meeting. No one knew that Sirius Black had been captured. Much less that he would be having a trial that very day. They made their way to the top of the visitor section and took seats in the shadows. Dumbles was unaware of their presence and they wanted to keep it that way.
They were supposed to be here for a custody hearing for him, but the events of the previous evening had made that unnecessary. However, a late-night letter had come to Remus while he was with the couple telling him that they still needed to be there for another reason. They sat there watching the goings on of the other who were waiting. Daphne sensing his melancholy mood snuggled into his side as they waited. It may not be the most appropriate thing for a lady of an Ancient and Most Noble house but she didn't care. Though she didn't understand why he was sad she didn't care. Her man needed her, and she would be there for him, damn what other people thought.
As they waited, they were surprised by Isabella Greengrass' appearance. She didn't explain why she was there but sat close to Harry and Daphne. Her face was a stony mask which had Daphne more than a little worried. She hadn't seen that face often as her mother saved it for when things were at their worst. The last time had been when her grandmother had died.
After ten minutes of waiting the members made their way into the chamber and took their sets. They watched as Dumbledore, in some of the most atrocious robs Harry had ever seen, called the meeting to order. They watched as he asked for any new business.
That was when Amelia stood up. "Yes, Chief Warlock. I have an announcement to make and a case for this body."
Dumbledore eyed her curiously for a moment, "Very well Madam the body recognizes you."
"Thank you, Chief Warlock. Ladies and Gentlemen of the body I have news on the Sirius Black case. This morning at precisely seven fifteen myself and a small teem of aurors captured Sirius Black." The hall devolved into hushed whispers of relief. That was until her next words. "I have found that Sirius Black was never given a trial and here by call for the trial of Mr. Black under veritaserum." This time the talk was defining. There were shouts of protest and confusion. 'How could a pure-blood not have a trial?' Was on most lips.
Dumbledore let out a loud blast from his wand to bring the hall back under control. "Madam Bones I'm not sure this is necessary. I am quite sure that there was in fact a tri…"
He was interrupted by a slightly irate Madam Bones. "Are you suggesting I cannot do my Job Chief Warlock?" Dumbledore could only shake his head. "They I assure you that he has not had a trial. It is this bodies duty to see justice done, and no trial means that justice is not being done."
Dumbledore was now in a corner. To refuse a trial of a pure blood was not going to happen. "Very well do we have a second on this trial?"
To his surprise it was Matthew Greengrass who rose. "I second the trial." He said simply before sitting back down.
"Very well, bring the prisoner in." Whispers floated through the chamber as a chained Sirius Black was led in. He looked nothing like they had expected. They thought he would be emaciated and half man. But before them stood a strong man with a mischievous glint to his grey eyes.
The Aurors sat him in the chair at the center of the floor. Chains sprung up and wrapped around him. Without further ado an individual in a hooded cloak stepped forward and placed three drops of veritaserum on Sirius' waiting tongue. Madam Bones stepped forward to begin the questioning.
"State your full name for the record."
"Sirius Orion Black"
"Date of birth?"
"November 3, 1959"
"Are you a follower of he-who-must-not-be-named?"
"Never!" Whispers began again just to be quelled with a glare from Amelia.
"Did you betray the Potter."
"No, I would never betray them. They were my family."
"But you were their secret keeper were you not?"
"No it was Pettigrew. We had changed last minute as I was the obvious choice."
"Did you kill those muggles?"
"No Pettigrew blew up the street when I confronted him after shouting how I had betrayed the Potters. He then cut off his finger and transformed into his illegal rat animagus."
"So, you are saying that he is still alive?"
"Yes, he is why I broke out. I seen him in a paper Fudge gave me when he came for an inspection." Fudge Paled a bit. "He was posing as a pet rat with the Weasleys youngest son. It said he was friends with Harry, and I had to protect my godson. I am sworn to protect him through the old rituals."
This threw even Amelia off a bit. "Wait, you were Harry Potters SWORN godfather?"
"Yes. I tried telling Crouch this, but he would have none of it. Said it was just me trying to get out of it."
Amelia mad a note. Dumbledore was now pale his plans just couldn't catch a break. "I think we have heard enough. I call for a vote of innocence."
Sirius black was swiftly and decisively granted his freedom. The chains dropped of and he gave Amelia a large smile and a thank you. He moved up to the visitor stand. Even though he wanted to go give his godson a big hug he also didn't want to give the next part away.
"Very well is there any more new business?" Well at least their can't be anything else to go wrong.
Madam Longbottom stood. "I move to start the hunt for Peter Pettigrew immediately."
Before Dumbledore could respond Amelia stood again. "That won't be necessary as he is already in custody. My deportment is currently questioning him and will submit a trial date."
'Damn,' He thought, 'I could have used him being on the run to get the boy to let me into wherever he would be staying over the summer.'
"Any other business?" 'Shit now what does she want?' He thought as Amelia stood once more.
