Volume 2: Chapter 5 Extracurricular

The next day

Team RRWBY were inside of Auto's laboratory, with Rock being placed in a device that is scanning the robot for any malfunctions, after a few minutes of scanning Ruby asks "Auto, is it bad?"

Auto turns to the team and says "Well, it's not roboenza and there is no virus destroying him internally."

"Then what is going on with him?" asked Blake.

"His energy has not been restoring properly." said Auto.

"Weapon energy?" asked Ruby.

"No no, energy. The thing that people also have." said Auto.

"You mean Aura?" asked Weiss.

"Yeah Aura, or at least the robotic equivalent of aura." said Auto.

"How is that possible?" asked Yang.

"He has not been getting enough rest." said Auto.

"Not enough rest, but he sleeps just as much as we do." said Weiss, causing Ruby, Yang and Blake to get a sheepish look on their face. Weiss noticed and exclaimed "Have you three been lying to me!"

"Kind of." said Ruby.

"What did you three do?" asked Weiss.

"Promise you won't get mad?" asked Yang.

"I'm kind of reaching that point right now!" Exclaimed Weiss with a hint of irritation in her voice.

"Ok, so we kind of... maybe... just a little bit... turned a blind eye any time Rock left Beacon at night to go look for robots in Vale." said Yang.

Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance and replied "Ok, so let me understand this clearly. None of you tried to stop him when he went to Vale in the middle of the night? No wonder he sometimes falls asleep in class, or sometimes let his guard down like last night!"

"Weiss, what happened happened ok. We can't change that." said Ruby, she then turned to Auto and asked "What do you suggest we do?"

Auto looked at Rock strapped to the machine and replied "Make sure he gets enough rest, and don't let him leave at night."

"Looks like he isn't the only one, isn't that right Blake?" asked Yang as she elbowed her partner in her ribs.

Blake's only reply was an eye roll and a scoff.

Ruby ignoring her sister and teammate replied to Auto and said "We'll make sure he gets enough sleep."

"Good, now shouldn't you girls be in class?" asked Auto, as he unhooked Rock from the machine and handed him over to Ruby.

"Nope, today's Saturday. So we're fine." said Ruby, as she carried Rock out of the lab on her shoulders.

A while later they made their way to the dorm, Ruby put Rock down on his bed after which he woke up. Rock looked around in confusion and asked "Guys, what happened in the lab."

"Auto said that you weren't getting enough sleep, which made you collapse yesterday." said Ruby. "Soooooooo, you're not going on patrol any time soon."

"Alright, I can live with that." said Rock.

Ruby nodded, after which she slapped her head in realization "Oh my gosh, I completely forgot!" She exclaimed.

"What happened?" asked Yang.

"Ok guys, so yesterday I ran into Penny and I learned a few things." said Ruby.

"Like what?" asked Blake.

"First we need to close the door." said Ruby as she signaled to Weiss, who nodded and closed the door.

"Tell us what happened." said Weiss.

"Penny is a robot created by Dr. Light and another scientist with funding from the Atlas Military." said Ruby.

"How is that possible? She looks so human." said Yang.

"Cause she is the first robot able to generate an aura as well as a soul." said Ruby.

"Ahem!" Rock coughed.

"Oh right, you have a soul and an aura as well." said Ruby

A shocked look then appears on Rock's face, who then exclaims "Ruby, what was her last name?"

"I think it was pollen... No that's not it, I think it was Sardine... No wait it was Polendina!" Exclaimed Ruby.

"I can't believe I forgot about this!" Exclaimed Rock.

"Whats wrong Rock?" asked Yang.

"I remember it now, one of the conditions to not have Dr. Light be arrested was that he would help Dr. Polendina with a project he was working on. Penny was that project." said Rock.

"She called him uncle Light, so I guess you have a new family member." said Ruby.

"Cool." said Rock as he let out a yawn "I'm getting some extra sleep, enjoy your day."

Rock then laid down on his bed and fell asleep.

Ruby then turned to the rest of the team and asked "What do you guys want to today?"

"I'm following Rock's example and I'm going to get some extra sleep." said Weiss as she went into the bathroom to change.

Ruby then looked at Blake and Yang with a questioning look, to which Yang replied "Let's just have a slow day today, it's only Saturday."

Ruby nodded, then dashed onto her bed and started reading her comic book while Yang and Blake did their own thing.

Somewhere in Vale

Within the food district of Vale stands an old diner, with the only person inside of the diner being owner who is preparing the diner for opening hours. The owner of the diner is is an old lizard faunus who has scales all over his body, who went to the back of the diner to grab some boxes filled with paper towels to put on the tables.

When the owner is in the back he hears the door opens and then shouts "We're closed, come back later!"

He then hears the door close again, indicating that the person who just entered had left the diner. The owner then makes his way back to main part of the diner to unpack the box. When he is done doing so he notices that all the blinds in the diner had been closed.

"That's odd, I could have sworn I had them open." Thought the owner, he then turns around and comes face to face with a cloaked individual with images of snakes on his arms. The owner looks at the figure in front of him and notices the White Fang symbol.

"What are you doing here?" asked the owner in fear.

"Traitors must be taken out." Replied the figure, as he pulled up part of his cloak to reveal the few dozen small knives he was carrying.

Fear began to overtake the face of the owner, who then stammered "But... I haven't done anything... I'm innocent... I always supported the cause... I wasn't a member... but I always supported the cause!"

"You're not a member, you're a traitor." said the figure, as he then began to approach the owner and grabbed one of his knives from under his cloak.

"Please, I have a family!" Exclaimed the owner in fear.

"You'll be joining them soon." said the figure.

"Please don't do this, I'll do anything. I won't serve humans in this diner anymore, I'll... I'll even plant explosives, I'll join the White Fang! Anything, just don't kill me!" Exclaimed the owner.

"Too late." said the figure, as he plunged the knife into the heart of the owner. After a few seconds of gasping for air the owner's body became limp, the figure took out the knife and let the body drop to the floor.

The figure then coated his finger in the blood coming from the stab wound, and used it to paint the following message on one of the wall 'THIS HAPPENS TO TRAITORS' After which the figure left the diner, leaving the place ready to be discovered by the police.

A couple of weeks later at Beacon

A couple of weeks passed since then, and things were improving. Rock was now able to sleep for full nights, despite him still being plagued by visions of that cliff and the visions always ended with a blinding flash of light awakening him.

Things were looking up for the blue robot, in the present he and his team were in combat class watching as Pyrrha was fighting against the entirety of Team CRDL.

She was locked in a duel with Cardin, his mace against her spear. The two slashed at each other until Pyrrha was able to knock Cardin backwards and then she threw he shield at him to knock him towards the ground.

She then got into a duel with Russel, Dove and sky who each charged towards her. She both her shield and lance to keep all three of them on their toes and deflect their attacks in the process. Cardin then tried to attack Pyrrha from behind using his mace, only for Pyrrha to jump out of the way. Which caused Cardin's mace to knock out the rest of his teammates.

Pyrrha and Cardin then got into a duel, each slashing their weapons at each other. Cardin gets knocked backwards and uses his mace to slam the ground, which causes a shockwave of fire to get launched at Pyrrha.

Pyrrha dodges the attack, rushes at Cardin and before he can respond to the attack she slashes at him repeatedly. She then launches him into the air, jumps into the air herself and uses her shield to launch himself at Cardin. Her spear is then used to grab Cardin by the neck, after which she throws Cardin towards the ground.

After she lands on the ground a bell rings, signaling that the other teams aura got into the red.

"And that's the match." said Professor Goodwitch.

"Psssh, lucky shot." said Cardin as he collapsed onto the ground.

"Well done Miss Nikos. You should have no problem qualifying for the tournament." said Professor Goodwitch.

"Thank you professor." said Pyrrha.

Professor Goodwitch looked at her scroll and said "Alright, now I know that's a tough act to follow, but we have time for one more sparring match." She then looks around and says "Any volunteers? Ms. Belladonna?"

Upon being called out, Blake slams her book shut and gives a shocked look to Professor Goodwitch who says "You've been rather docile for the past few classes. Why don't you-"

"I'll do it." said Mercury from within the audience.

Professor Goodwitch looks at her scroll and replies "Mercury, is it? Very well, let's find you an opponent."

"Actually, I wanna fight... her." said Mercury as he points towards Pyrrha.

"I'm afraid Miss Nikos has just finished the match I recommend you choose another partner." said Professor Goodwitch.

"No, it's fine! I'd be happy to oblige." said Pyrrha.

Mercury then goes into the changing room, after a few minutes he returns and gets into a fighting stance against Pyrrha.

The match starts and Mercury charges towards Pyrrha and tries to kick her, only for her shield to block the kick. Pyrrha then uses her spear to swipe Mercury off his feet, making him fall onto the ground.

He gets up and jumps backwards, Pyrrha then charges at him and the two begin to trade blows. Pyrrha using her spear and shield and Mercury using his legs to block and attack the warrior.

Pyrrha then finds an opening and uses it to knock Mercury backwards. He manages to stay on his feet and then stares down Pyrrha.

From within the stands Ruby turns to Emerald and says "Hey, your friend's doing pretty good."

Emerald gives a fake smile, and once Ruby turns back to the fight she rolls her eyes.

Back in the fight Mercury dashes towards Pyrrha and unleashes a flurry of kicks towards her. Which she manages to block with her shield, she tries to retaliate with her spear only for Mercury to knock it out of her hands.

She keeps using her shield to block the attack and is about to use her semblance to get the upper hand. Mercury sees what happens and follows through with the kick.

He gets to the ground and becomes disoriented for a bit, Pyrrha then charges at him with her shield. Mercury uses the shield to launch himself backwards.

Pyrrah charges at him one last time, only for Mercury to turn to Professor Goodwitch and says "I forfeit."

Pyrrha stumbles over in surprise and lands besides Mercury. She gets to her feet and says "You... don't even want to try?"

Mercury shrugs and replies "What's the point? You're a world-renowned fighter. We're obviously leagues apart."

"In that case... Pyrrha Nikos is the victor of the match... again." said Professor Goodwicth, she then turns to Mercury and adds "Next time, you may want to think a little harder before choosing an opponent."

"I'll be sure to do that." said Mercury.

An alarm goes, which wakes up Blake who had fallen asleep during the match. Professor Goodwitch turns to the class and says "That is all for today. And remember, the dance is this weekend. But you all have your first mission on Monday. I will not accept any excuses.

The class leaves the room, Mercury walks past Emerald and sarcastically says "Learning is so much fun."

Outside

Team RRWBY walks past Sun and his team, sun notices and runs after Blake he catches up to her and says "Hey Blake! You doing okay?"

"I'm fine." said Blake as she closes the book she was reading.

"So I hear there's this dance going on this weekend... Sounds pretty lame, but you and me, I'm thinking, not as lame, right?" asked Sun.

"What?" asked Blake in confusion.

"The dance! This weekend! You wanna go, or what?" asked Sun.

"I don't have time for a stupid dance. I thought you of all people would get that." said a now irritated Blake as she walked away from a saddened Sun to catch up with her team.

She catches up with them, and when they get to their dorm Yang turns to Blake and says "Blake, we want you to go to the dance this weekend."

"You what!" Exclaimed Blake as they entered the dorm room. Blake then saw a chair in the middle of the room, sat down and gave an angry glare to her teammates.

"We want you to go to the dance." said Ruby.

"That's ridiculous." replied Blake.

"No, you're being ridiculous." said Rock.

"Blake, we're worried about you. This investigation is starting to mess with your head." said Yang.

"You can't sleep, you hardly eat, and to be honest, your grades have been suffering. Same goes for Rock." said Weiss.

"Woah, woah hold on. Don't throw me under the bus Weiss, I have been doing better these past few weeks!" Exclaimed Rock.

"Do you really?" asked Weiss.

"Listen here Ice Queen, just because none of us get perfect scores on our tests doesn't mean we're failures. So stop thinking that you're better than everyone!" Exclaimed Rock in anger.

"Woah Rock, calm down." said Ruby, trying to defuse the situation.

"No!" Exclaimed Rock turning to Ruby "She says she is trying to do better! Well I don't see it, all she has been doing is making herself seem like she is better than us. Well she's not!"

"Rock-" Said Ruby only to be interrupted by Rock.

"NO! You know what forget this!" Exclaimed Rock heading towards the door.

"Where are you going?" asked Yang.

"I'm going to auto! Good luck sorting this mess out!" Exclaimed Rock as he left the dorm and slammed the door shut.

"He's not wrong." said Blake.

"What?" asked Weiss.

"You think you're so high and mighty to think that you can dictate our lives, well you can't. You think I care about grades? People's lives are at stake!"

Yang placed her hand on Blake's shoulder and said "We know, and we're all still trying to figure out what Torchwick is up to."

"Thanks to you and Sun, we know they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale." said Ruby.

"Fine, I'll admit what we did a couple of weeks ago was helpful. The Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for dust robberies over the last few months." said Weiss.

"Don't forget about their missing military tech as well." said Yang as she removed her hand from Blake's shoulder.

"But there's still unanswered questions!" Exclaimed Blake.

"Blake, you won't be able to find anything you can't even keep your eyes open!" Exclaimed Ruby.

"All we're asking is that you take it easy for one day. Besides Rock has been doing that for the last couple of weeks and the world hasn't ended yet." said Yang.

"It will be fun! Me, Yang and hopefully Rock if he ever comes back will make sure of it." said Weiss.

"Yeah! We're planning the whole event!" Exclaimed Yang.

"Excuse me?" Said Blake in confusion.

"Team CFVY's away mission lasted longer than expected." said Weiss.

"So, Weiss and I were asked to pick up where they left off. We managed to get Rock and Auto roped into it, and now we can make sure you have the perfect night." said Yang.

"And once it's all over, we'll return to our search, rested and ready." said Weiss.

"So what do you think?" asked Ruby.

"I think it is a colossal waste of time." said Blake as she walked towards the door, she then turns to her teammates and adds "I'll be in the library." after which she closes the door and leaves.

"That's just great!" Exclaimed Yang.

"She... No neither of them can keep going like this." said Weiss.

"But Rock's doing better." said Ruby.

"I know, I'm concerned about the fact that he has been having trouble sleeping. It could be dangerous for both of them." said Weiss.

A knock was then heard at the door, Weiss sighed in annoyance and opened the door. There she found a small shrine, with chocolates and a note asking Weiss to go to the dance.

She grabbed her rapier and used fire dust to burn it to ashes.

Ruby and Yang looked at Weiss, who replied with "What?"

"And that is why they call you the Ice Queen." said Yang.

"All my life boys have only cared about the perks of my last name. Besides, I already have a date in mind." said Weiss.

"You could at least have saved the chocolates for us." said Yang.

"I don't think so, Ruby gets enough sugar with the cookies she eats, Blake doesn't like the flavor of the chocolate included, Rock will eat himself to death, I need to watch my figure and you have kind of the same thing going on as Rock once you start eating sugar you don't stop." said Weiss.

"Fair enough." said Yang.

"Date or no date, none of this will matter if we can't get Blake to go." said Ruby as she walked to the door.

"And where are you going?" asked Weiss.

"I'm going to see if I can get Rock to come back to the dorms." said Ruby as she left the dorm room in search for her teammate.

Auto's Lab

Rock was strapped to the same machine that he had been strapped to the day after the investigation, he looks over to Auto and asks "Have you found anything yet?"

Auto looks up from his screen and replies "No, and the weird thing is. I can't find the things you described seeing in your dreams from the last couple of weeks. Are you sure you weren't just hallucinating from a lack of sleep?"

"No, I was asleep and saw what was happening. The strangest thing about this is that it felt so real, like I was actually there." said Rock.

"Weird, anything else you wanted to know?" asked Auto.

"Yeah is it possible to turn off my emotions?" asked Rock.

"Your... Your emotions." said Auto with a surprised tone.

"Yes my emotions, think you can turn them off or make them less extreme. I kind of want to stop exploding at Weiss." said Rock.

Auto stayed silent for a bit before responding "I'm afraid I can't do that, your emotions... It's what makes you special, besides I think you have every right to call her out."

"Alright then, thanks anyway." said Rock as Auto released him from the machine, a knock was then heard coming from the door.

Rock opened the door and saw Ruby standing outside of the lab. "Ruby, what are you doing here?" He asked.

"I came to convince you to come back to the dorms." said Ruby.

"Alright, I'll come with you." said Rock.

"And I know- Wait you'll come back, just like that." said Ruby.

"Yeah, I cooled off. Sorry I exploded at you." said Rock.

"It's fine, but as team leader I do think that you should talk to Weiss." said Ruby.

"You're team leader, not a miracle worker." said Rock, causing Ruby to scoff.

"Lets just head back to the dorm." said Ruby in a deadpanned tone.

The two began to walk back to the dorms, the two walked through the campus next to each other. Ruby glanced side ways at Rock and felt happy to have met him. She was about to hold his hand when they heard a crashing sound behind them.

They turned around and saw a red robot with rings on his body standing in front of them.

"Ring Man, what are you doing here!" Exclaimed Rock.

"I'm here to destroy you." said Ring Man, summoning two razor sharp rings and getting into a combat position.

"Ring Man you don't have to do this, we're not enemies." said Rock.

"I'm afraid we are." said Ring Man as he fired two rings towards Ruby, who then sliced them to pieces using her scythe. "Impressive, lets see how you deal with this."

Ring Man then summoned a few dozen rings and had them circle around Ruby, Rock was going to interfere only to be stopped by an electrical field emanating from a ring floating above him.

"Ring Man, don't do it!" Exclaimed Rock.

"Prepare to be sliced to pieces!" Exclaimed Ring Man as he had the rings surrounding Ruby crash towards her.

Ruby then used her semblance and scythe slice the the rings to pieces, and before Ring Man could react he was sliced to pieces as well. Leaving behind his memory chip, she then freed Rock from his temporary prison and gave him the chip.

Rock absorbed the chip and got the message "Ring Boomerang obtained", he then got an idea. He switched to the ring boomerang, made a small ring, got on his knee in front of Ruby and asked "Ruby Rose, will you accept this ring as an invitation to go to the dance with me?"

Ruby looked at the small ring and then at Rock, she then used her semblance to tackle Rock into a hug and replied "Off course I will you dork, I was honestly beginning to think you would never ask."

"Great, if this turns into more I'll give you an actual ring." said Rock.

"Rock, no." said Ruby.

"You only want to go as friends?" asked Rock.

"No... look... I would love to see if this goes beyond a crush or friendship, I really do. I just think that a ring that is also a weapon fits me much better than any type of jewelry." said Ruby.

"So the dance is a date?" asked Rock.

"It is, now lets head back. I'm sure Yang is going to interrogate both of us over the dance." said Ruby as she helped herself and Rock up from the ground. The two then walked back to their dorm.

With Pyrrha and Jaune

The two had been having their nightly training session on the roof, Pyrrha was able to use her weapon to sweep Jaune of his feet and have her land on the floor.

"Well done, your swordplay's improve immensely." said Pyrrha as she helped Jaune to stand up.

"I couldn't have done it without you." said Jaune.

"So are you ready to move on to aura?" asked Pyrrha.

"I think I am." said Jaune, as he and Pyrrha then sat down onto the ground.

"Remember what I told you, deep breaths." said Pyrrha

The two then sat across from each other, in a meditating position. They had their eyes closed, although Pyrrha opened her eyes from time to time to check on Jaune.

After she kept her eyes closed for a bit longer she opened her eyes and saw that Jaune was surrounded by dark aura erupting from her body.

"Not again!" Pyrrha thought to herself.

Pyrrha then lunged at Jaune, pulled him into a hug and yelled "Jaune! You have to fight it! Whatever is troubling you, take deep breaths and think positive thoughts!"

She then heard Jaune's breathing and it turned into a clear rhythm, after a while of doing so she saw the dark aura disappearing.

Jaune opened his eyes, looked at Pyrrha, blushed at the position they were in and said "Pyrrha, thanks for saving me. But you're too close."

"I'm sorry!" Exclaimed Pyrrha in embarrassment as she let go of Jaune and scurried backwards.

"Thanks for saving me again." said Jaune.

"You're welcome, what happened to you?" asked Pyrrha.

"I got angry at the fact that Yang, Blake and Weiss still don't trust me. I mean I get it, what I did was wrong. But I'm trying to do better, I'm trying to improve and they won't even give me the time of day!" Exclaimed Jaune.

"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Pyrrha.

"I'm sorry, I don't want to burden you with my issues." said Jaune as he left the roof to return to the dorm. Leaving Pyrrha alone on the rooftop with her own thoughts.

"You're... You're not a burden." She whispered after he had left.

Cinder's dorm

In the dorm Cinder, Mercury and Emerald were talking about their plans and had just mentioned the topic of Pyrrha.

"Ah, the invincible girl." said Cinder.

"She's smart, but I wouldn't say invincible." said Mercury.

"Do tell." said Cinder with intrigue in her voice.

"Her semblance is polarity. But you'd never know just by watching." said Emerald.

"After she made contact with my boots, she was able to move them around however she wanted. But she only made slight adjustments." said Mercury.

"Just enough to make it look like she's untouchable. She doesn't broadcast her power, so it puts her opponent at a disadvantage." said Emerald.

"Hmmm... People assume that she's fated for victory, when she's really taking fate into her own hands. Interesting, add her to the list." said Cinder, to which Emerald nodded and put Pyrrha's name on the list on her scroll.

"You should be able to take her no problem." said Mercury.

"It's not about overpowering the enemy. It's about taking away what power they have. And we will, in time." said Cinder.

"I hate waiting." said Mercury in an annoyed tone.

"Don't worry Mercury. We have a fun weekend ahead of us." said Cinder.

"The weekend isssssss definitely going to be fun." said Snake Man from within the window frame.

Cinder turned to Snake Man and asked "Ah Snake Man, you have any news?"

"Yessssssss, Rock and Ruby will be going to the dance thissssssss weekend." said Snake Man.

"And how does that help us?" asked Cinder.

"They will be going assssssss a pair." Hissed Snake Man.

Cinder raised her eyebrow, let out a chuckle and replied "Good work Snake Man, they'll be too busy focusing on each other to try and stop me."

"Thank you, Misssssssstressssssss Cinder. And all I had to do, wassssssss get Ring Man killed." said Snake Man.

One of Cinder's eyes twitched before she composed herself and replied "I will forgive you for that, cause this piece of information will give us an advantage. You are dismissed."

"Thank you Misssstressssssss." Hissed Snake Man before climbing out of the window.

"So now what?" asked Emerald.

"We're going to have so much fun this weekend." said Cinder as she got a twisted look on her face.

A/N: And there we have it, another chapter done. Not much to say here, a few things hinted at for the future, Rock and Ruby going to the dance together, Jaune still having issues with his dark half and a bunch of other things.
