It was after the great Battle between the Paladins and Honvera, with two not coming back alive. Coran, Romelle, and Lance were torn apart. The grief of the Three could be seen and felt from miles away. Allura was like a Daughter and a Niece to Coran, Allura was Romeo's best friend by then, and Lance… Lance had loved Allura more than anything in this life, and now she was gone.
The Team Leader felt very guilty, as he was the one who let Allura keep controlling the entity, once again he had seen the Mission as more important than the People, he had always thought that way, and now they were all in pain.
He was grieving as well, but he was the Least close to Allura than any other Paladin or Teammate. He didn't know how to handle this, but felt a need to Protect and Care for Lance at all cost, so he did.
He became Lance's shoulder to cry on, Because he didn't want Lance to go through Grief alone. He knew that pain, People had given him their Sympathies, but he knew Sympathy did nothing. Sympathy didn't help others, a shoulder to bury your sorrow into helped others. Going in alone, it was like leaping out of a window waiting for a Non Existent person to catch you. He had gone through needing a shoulder to cry on to feeling like he needed somebody to end his life so he could have a new one. Because at one point he not only thought he could conquer depression, he thought he could go through depression alone. He used to see the worst parts of his life, in particular the fire, the reason he had depression in the first place, in slow motion, non-stop in his mind, and his Healer, his Therapy through that after Six Years of going through it all alone had been Shiro.
He didn't want Lance to spend the next Six Years of his life in constant Grief and Emptiness like he had, and he felt protective due to instinct. He wanted to be the Closest thing to Therapy for Lance as Shiro had been for him. He needed to be there for Lance, not just for him, but for himself.
For the next year, Keith was a shoulder to cry on for Lance. The team comforted Coran, Romelle, and Lance for as long as they needed and Gave them space when they asked for it.
Adam helped Shiro Forgive himself for Letting Allura go, as Allura had been part of the Weird Space Family that was the Team of Voltron. He also became sort of the 'Earth Dad' to match the Title Shiro had as 'Space Dad'.
Matt took a break from the Coalition, instead Supporting Pidge through the Grieving period, as he did when They went through their Gender Dysphoria, as did everybody else.
Shay comforted Hunk whenever the Yellow Paladin needed it, and even went on a date Three months after the War ended.
Although the MFE pilots had not known The Princess for long or well, they had a Grieving period just like everybody else, causing James and Ryan to become closer.
Coran and Romelle were better recognized for how much they had done for the war, and comforted each other as they both were close to Allura.
Axca soon catched on to her Feeling about Veronica and started dropping subtle hints as a hopeful start.
Kolivan healed well, went back to the Blades, and started the Project of honouring those who had died through the War.
Iverson grieved the Loss of his Partner in running the Garrison, but knew he was not cut for being the Leader, so the next person down who will not be named became the New leader, and had Iverson help him out as Iverson was much more experienced.
Krolia silently comforted her son Through his Grieving Rants and the Stress he had with leading the team, Helping Pidge through there Gender Dysphoria, and how hard it was to see Lance in pain and not be able to Comfort him in a way that would be seen as Awkward.
And Cosmo was the best boy ever by being a dog to cuddle with and cheer the Voltron team up, especially Lance when he was With Keith or just Keith in general.
