Chapter 9 B: On The Run With A Gun...

The state of tranquility he found hisself in as he approached the gates of the wolf compound could only be described as the calmness before the storm. He nodded in a sign of recognition respectfully to the wolves he passed at the gate. The doors to the huge mansion like compound opened upon his climb up the long staircase and he once again nodded his head in respect to the wolves standing before him.

"Is my father in?" He questioned Lancelot who was his long time friend and pack mate. "He is still on the training grounds. This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with James would it David". Lancelot never the fool had already figured he would see the face of the older twin once James had left tattered only hours before.

"No Lance this is even more personal. Gather the council and meet me on the training grounds. I'm invoking the challenge." Lancelot's eyes bulged out a little in shock because all of the pack knew that David was never one to seek the throne.

He was loyal and dutiful to a fault and never once sought out power. Lancelot figured something drastic had to have happened for him to challenge the alpha but he nodded his head and scurried down the hall to commence the council. When David finally got down the vast hallways and into the caged 50 yard field that was known as the training grounds he searched left and right for his father.

His search was cut short when he saw the older man sitting on the stone throne across the field. The high beam lights were then turned on and as he looked up into the stands that surrounded the cage he sensed that not only were all of the members of the council but all of the members of the pack were present as well.

"I, David Alexander Nolan hereby urge Robert George Spencer Nolan J.r the pack alpha to a challenge of strength and agility for a seat at the head of the table." David's voice resonated throughout the openness of the clear field, and the only thing that could be heard throughout the crowd were gasps and ahhhh's of confusion. J.R had a grim smirk on his face, as he leaned forward body unblemished from the first challenge he had already accepted, and nodded his head once again to accept yet another.

David went to follow his fathers lead and took off his shirt his body bulging and reconnecting as he flared his form without fully changing. He growled low and dangerous as he charged the older pack leader. Robert followed suite hopping off his high seat and running full force at his seed. The two connected with a violent smack as they grabbed one another and tussled to the ground.

All the spectators saw for minutes on end were holds, releases, punches, and kicks thrown at one another. Finally after George had been suplexed a little too hard for his liking he rolled over on his hands and knees and instantly changed. David didn't have much time to react as his father the beast charged him. His only chance was to run up the cage and flip backwards in a form of tricky agility.

As he did so he flipped and coincidentally landed upon the back of the larger black furred alpha. He then used his bear like strength to squeeze the sides of the wolf surely crushing his ribs. A sudden yelp of pain left the pack leader and David refused to relent at the noises of aches and pain.

He squeezed harder and harder until the animal passed out from the sheer torture of pain. When Robert came to he was sure he would be shamed and put to death by the new pack alpha. David allowed him to keep his life however with the promise that he would finish the job if ever a hair on his soon to be wife or brothers head were ever misplaced.

David had a few other demands as well. He would let his father keep his place as alpha because he hated the pack politics and his father was well respected but he wanted 17 years of peace in the human world then he would come back and abide by pack law and upon his fathers timely demise he would assume the mantle of alpha. His brother James was to live out his life in anyway he saw fit with no politics or laws to hold him back.

David would gladly bear any cross so his brother could be free. James never wanted to be anything but happy and free to live his life and David understood all too well what it meant to be held back by their father only difference was James had the fight in him but he didn't have the ruthless behavior.

James was kind and understanding he didn't have what it took to kill a man in cold blood, even if the man meant him harm. Of course R. George had no choice but to try and save face and accept all of his sons demands. He would never tell David but he had feared for his life that night and he had never feared anything at all.

When David arrived back at his loft many hours later he wasn't surprised to see his brother almost fully healed and guarding the door with his life. "Why haven't you left Jimmy?" He questioned although proud of his brother for being so strong. "I couldn't leave without knowing you were ok Davey, but I think I'll go now. Is he still alive?" He questioned his back turned to his bigger twin brother as his hand grazed the door knob. James had to know their fathers fate before he disappeared.

"He is, but he will no longer be a problem for you. Go live your life little twin." James smiled through tearful eyes at the inside joke that had ran between them since their birth. The almost fully healed man knew his brother must've given up something huge to pay his debt if he was able to leave town with no consequences or council members to check in to every so often.

James was free now but sadly he didn't even know what that truly meant or how he would approach this new found freedom. The gun in his hand felt heavier now and foreign. As he went to hand it back to his brother the slightly eldest of the two shook his head and told him to keep it just in case. James turned once more to hug his brother with all the strength he could muster and then quickly exited before his sadness engulfed him.

The night had been a long one for David as he sat in his study drinking bourbon and reminiscing. As he came back from his long and eventful thoughts he picked up the landline to his study and dialed the number he had kept in his heart for years if ever he had an emergency.

The men had decided that night that they could no longer keep in touch just to keep them both safe from their fathers evil reign and flip floppy ways. David knew even if his father gave his word he wouldn't hurt his twin he couldn't trust him. George might hurt the boy just to spite him even if he knew it would be the last thing he did before David killed him.

So in order to keep their father honest they exchanged one emergency number and memorized it and promised each other they would only call if the situation was dire. David had gone over in his mind many many times if he should pull his brother out of hiding and after many hours of going back and forth with hisself he dialed out the number.

After three rings a voice picked up on the other end "Hello...? Hello.." David hadn't heard his brothers voice in over 17 years, but he surely knew that this person on the other line wasn't James. After a few more moments of silence he finally spoke up "Hey uhhh sorry I must have the wrong number. I was looking for James Nolan."

The man on the other end shuffled around a bit before his response "Oh yeah no you've got the right number he is sleeping give me a sec I'll wake him." Before David could protest to just have him call him in the morning he heard the man shuffling some more as he whispered gently "Sweetheart wake up you have a phone call."

David's ears perked up a little surprised as he heard his brothers response. "Hmmm Robin babe who is it calling this late?" The man who's name must've been Robin responded once more "Hold on a sec they didn't say. Uhh hey Mr can I get your name?" David chuckled a bit at the whole exchange.

"Just tell him it's Davey." "Yeah James he said it's Davey?" At the sound of his nickname James could be heard quickly grabbing the phone. "David is everything ok?!" He exclaimed no longer seeming half sleep. "No little twin brother...I Uhh I need your help". At the mention of his last sentence the men discussed things for a few more moments and David hung up with plans to take his daughter to meet the uncle she never knew she had.
