They spent the next several days recovering from the incident at Zone 2. Clem was in her room, holding the grenade in her hand. She knew she would have to use it one day, so she always kept it close to her.
Justin had been chosen as one of the kids who went out the gates several times with Clay, to do recon. On one of those missions, they got attacked, once again by the same people, this time, they shot Justin in the stomach, causing him to be bedridden in the local medical center.
"Where are you going?" Asked Mika, who was just returning from her shift.
"I'm going to visit Justin for A bit. I'll be back later,"
"Alright, we'll make something to eat when you get back,"
She made her way to the hospital, getting looks from the people around her. No one wanted to visit anyone who was in the medical center, due to the fact that they could be carrying a disease, or anything else.
Brian was tending to his wounds. He had a a large bandage on his upper stomach, but his mood didn't change at all. He was getting worst.
"How's he doing?" she took a seat next to him.
"Not good. He's Been slipping in out of it for a while. I've managed to stabilize his blood pressure, but his temperature is skyrocketing. I'm doing what I can, okay?" he growled.
"Hey, who said you weren't? I'm just asking," she raised her defends in defense.
"I'm sorry Clementine. It's hard to keep a level head with all these things happening."
She nodded her head in response, when suddenly the heart monitor started to flatline.
"Fuck!" he brought out the defibrillator as he tried to revive him, as other nurses came in to try to help. After several minutes of trying, it didn't work. All the nurses stepped out, as Brian sat next to him.
"He was a good kid. I couldn't do anything."
Clem got up and patted him on the back.
"You can't save everyone, you tried that's all that matters." The heart monitor was still hooked up, when she saw Justin's hand start to move.
"Oh no.."
"Wh-" the undead Justin reached out and pulled out a piece of Brian's neck, spraying blood everywhere.
"Shit!" She ran out the room, and ran down the right corridor, looking for help. She ran into the nurse's lounge, it was full of walkers.
"No... No..." She slammed the door and ran out the hospital, back home. She ran inside, stumbling as she crashed onto the floor.
"Whoa, kiddo, slow down a bit," said Omid.
"Walkers, they're everywhere!"
"What? Where?" Asked Lee, as the rest of the group went for their weapons.
"I don't know, but they're everywhere inside the medical center,"
"Derrick, radio for back up, we can't let anything happen,"
They all headed out the door, when Lee stopped Clem.
"We gotta make sure they don't take over. Stay here,"
"What? I'm not staying inside! I'm coming with you!"
"Fine, let's go,"
They went to the other side of Ridgedale where the medical center was, but they were too late. Walkers were already pouring out, killing anyone in their path.
"We should stand our ground!" yelled Mika, over the yelling and moaning of the people and walkers.
They all formed a circle around themselves, holding off the walkers. Lee saw through the rear of his eye that Clay and his people were fleeing, leaving them behind.
" Bastards.. "
They were forced to flee towards the free zone, where it was abandoned, but walkers followed in pursuit.
"There's no point Lee! We gotta go!" said Christa.
"I back that up!" added Omid.
The waves of walkers just kept coming from the other side. They kept backing up, cornering themselves in. Gunfire came from the other side, taking down all the walkers. Clem recognized the men as the same ones that attacked them a few days earlier.
"Clay is gone again. Coward, as always leaving behind his valuable assets,"
"Who the hell are you?!" They all aimed their weapons at each other.
"We have a debt to settle with Clay and his people, you guys are clean, according to our scouts. This place is compromised, if you want to stay alive, we gotta go!"
"Listen to him Lee!" yelled Christa.
They eventually agreed, and they exited Ridgedale through the free zone. They walked for a good amount of time as they reached the free way, where their vehicles were waiting.
They drove north, Clem could tell because it was getting colder and she could see the towns, far away from where they were. It had started to snow, luckily she had her sweater on her. They arrived at a old Ski lodge.
"A storms gonna hit later, we'll be safe here. Hopefully you'll like our guys," The man who was called Z by the others seemed to fairly nice to all of them.
The ski lodge was powered with electricity, and a large Christmas tree was in the entrance.
"What month is it?" Asked Clem.
"No idea," replied Kate.
"One of our men is going to come meet you all, he's really nice, hope yall get along," Z smiled as he headed off towards the cafeteria.
The man had a large mullet and a hat, and was coming down the stairs as he started talking.
"Alright, I'll keep it simple, yall must be really tough to survive all-" he turned around from the stairs, and was dumbstruck at what he was seeing.
"Oh my God... Lee? Clem?" It was him. The voice that Clem recognized that day belonged to Kenny. It felt weird seeing him after 2 years, but she though he was dead? What had actually happened?
Lee and Kenny embraced in a long, tight hug, as tears came down both their eyes.
" It's good to see you alive, pal."
He got down on his knees to greet Clem.
"You've grown so much, Clem. Still wearing that hat, huh? Still good, ain't it?" he smiled, wiping his eyes.
She nodded, hugging him.
"Still got the old crew don't we? And some new members too," he greeted Kate and Mike.
"I'm guessin' Ben didn't make it?"
Lee nodded.
"Poor kid..."
They all sat down on of the couches by the fire pit.
"How did you make it out of there? It was full of walkers," Asked Lee, glad that his old friend was still alive.
"I got lucky. Real lucky. I don't know how, but I made it out of Savannah, just barely. I wandered, God knows how long, then I met the people I'm with now,"
"I only see 4 guys," said Mike.
"They're scouting the woods, making sure the area is clear for the night."
"When I got out of Savannah, I thought you'd died. All of you. But Lee, when he's gonna do somethin', he does it, I knew you'd rescue Clem from that crazy fucker," he said, looking at Clem.
"It wasn't easy, but I had to. I had nothing to lose,"
"And here I am, blaming myself for your death," said Christa, laughing.
"Heh, well, there's Kenny for a while believe that!"
After some time, several other men and women entered the ski lodge.
"Area looks clear, no walkers." said a woman, unloading a backpack full with cans of food.
"Alright, we got newcomers, they're cool, we've met before," replied Kenny.
"Weren't they with Clay?"
"Yeah. But we go way back, I know they ain't part of his bullshit, trust me."
Kenny called Lee and Derrick over.
"We plan on having a good night's sleep, but Clay and the others might come out our doorstep at any time,"
"What's the problem with him? He was cool with all of us," replied Derrick.
"He and his men assault other camps around the area. We barely made it out last time, and he doesn't give a damn about who it is, woman or child." added a woman, who was a few months pregnant.
"Rosie's right. Everything y'all had at Ridgedale? They stole it from other survivors, like a group of wild animals,"
"That's why you showed up with guns, a few days ago," added Clem.
"Jesus, you were there? Thank God you didn't get shot. We had em pinned. Walkers showed up, we couldn't get them."
"Why not just go to Ridgedale, get it over with?" Asked Christa.
"We actually care about others, we don't blame those who didn't have anything to do with it, we tried to keep the people out of it." replied Rosie.
A large gush of wind bursted, causing the Large wind turbine outside to cause alot of noise.
"Storms coming, and that things is a beacon for walkers, let's go!"
The group headed outside. They could feel the warm wind and humidity, which meant it was going to rain soon. Kenny, Lee and Mike went around the building to secure it, while Derrick went to turn off the turbine.
"So, how old are you?" Asked Rosie, as she, Mika and Clem sat by the fireplace.
"I can't really tell, I lost track of the months a while ago, I say about 11 or 12?" she suggested.
"You've guys have been through alot, based on what Kenny's told us. He always talked about his old group is Georgia."
"We thought he was dead," added Mika.
"So did he. He was depressed for a while, especially because he always talked about Clementine, he refused to believe she was gone too. Things are looking up now,"
"So um... Who's the dad?" Asked Clem.
"That guy over there," she pointed to Z, who's name was Zak.
"How do you feel about having a child? I mean it's not the same as before," Asked Christa.
"It's scary, when you think about it. But the support of others makes up for it,"
"Hopefully, everything will be fine," said Kate. As she finished her sentence, the electricity went out.
"Wind turbine is out. We should be good," said Omid.
Despite the fact that most of the group was outside, she knew something was wrong. She didn't know what, but the air around her felt heavy. They were in danger, and she needed to find them before it was too late.
"Somethings wrong," she said.
"Cmon, Clem. Loosen up a bit," replied Christa.
She didn't listen as she reached for her backpack and pulled out the pistol she found, and headed outside, despite being told not to do so.
She saw the other group members by the turbine.
"What's going on?"
"Someone killed the power. We ain't alone," said Kenny.
"I thought this thing turned off the power," added Derrick.
"There's a couple generators up the hill, when those go out, the lights go out."
"How far is it?" she asked.
"Maybe 15 or 20 minutes, at the most."
"How can-" several gunshots could be heard coming from the woods, killing the walkers that were approaching the ski lodge.
"Lee, you and me, we'll flank them, cmon!" Derrick suggested, as the pair headed to the back of the building.
"I'm going back in, making sure everything's alright," said Mike.
"Cmon Clem," Kenny leaded the way behind a old statue, we'll hidden from sight, as several men came out from the woods.
"You recognize any of em?"
"I can't see that far,"
He handed her the rifle to use the scope.
She had trouble controlling the weapon, bit she was able to stabilize it. She looked through the scope at the men, recognizing only one of them, it was Boone, he worked along with Mike and Lee on guard.
" I know one of them, they're from Ridgedale."
"I figured. I don't see that clay guy either. He must be back at home and he sent his slaves to do the dirty work,"
Magic words. Clay suddenly appeared from the woods, as the rest of the men entered the ski lodge, taking everyone hostage within a matter of minutes.
" Alright. We'll keep this nice and easy. No one has to get hurt, as long as you do as I say,"
"I know that the girl is out there, hiding. Just come forward, I want to have a talk with all of you,"
"You're fucking crazy, just let us go!" exclaimed Christa.
He leaned in, mere inches from her face.
"That's not how this works, miss. You should know that."
"Ah, Zak. You and your people have given mine so much trouble. You burned Ridgedale to the ground, killing innocent. I thought that was against your... Beliefs?" he pulled out a revolver and shot Zak in the shoulder.
"We didn't do anything. Your town died from the inside, and you just won't realize it!" he wheezed, in pain.
A gunshot rang out, coming from the outside, killing Boone.
"I got the bastard," said Kenny, as he reloaded.
"We got a shooter? An eye for an eye then," he reached for Zaks collar and pulled him to his feet.
"Come out, Clementine. No one else needs to die again, unless, if that's what you want,"
"He has Zak," said Clem.
"I don't know. What should I do?"
"If we don't come in, he'll kill him. There's no other way," she said.
"You see, Ridgedale was my.. Home away from home. Our camp up north is more then that, maybe you'll enjoy it, if you all just comply!"
He cocked the pistol and aimed at his head.
"God fucking damnit." Kenny threw the rifle to the ground, as the pair approached the ski lodge, hands in the air.
"Wasn't that hard, was it? Bring the trucks around," he told one of his men.
They were all handcuffed, excluding Derrick and Lee, who were no where to be seen.
"Camp is quite far, make yourselves comfortable," said one of his men, by the name of Marshall. They all climbed into a large moving truck, as they drove off into the darkness, somewhere unknown, possibly dangerous, again.
