AN: I finished editing this one today too, and figured what the hell? Imma post it :)
"Ra's al Ghul died when the boats exploded, and unfortunately the journals were lost with him. While we weren't able to acquire them, we did stop the League of Rasputin and end their quest for world domination," Dick said finishing his report.
"I see," Bruce replied.
The team sat in their briefing room, having arrived back in America a day earlier. Bruce gave them their first day back to rest and recover from everything before demanding their mission report.
"So, did you ever have the journals in your possession before Ra's managed to obtain them?" Bruce asked curiously.
"No," Dick answered. He had already lied to Bruce a ton in their debrief, so really what was one more? The man just wouldn't get it, he wouldn't understand that Dick had given up the mission to save his team. Bruce would never sacrifice the objective, no matter what, but Dick had learned that sometimes the mission was overrated, sometimes you have to do what's right. "We reached the library in time to find the cult taking the journals and performing their rituals."
Bruce narrowed his eyes. "Did the journals work?"
Dick swallowed. "Yes, from what we could see, they did."
"It is unfortunate that you were unable to secure them then. They could have been a valuable asset to my organization."
"How so?" Barbara chimed in.
Bruce scowled and glared at her. "Our researchers could have helped a lot of people with that sort of power," Bruce paused. "I know you and Nightwing have each attempted to look into my organization."
Barbara and Dick each paled.
"I understand where your concerns came from. You have each been through a lot, and naturally are rather paranoid, but I can assure you, I know what that's like. I was once in your shoes, and hardly trusted anyone."
Barbara snorted. "Then you'll understand why it's hard for us to trust that the journals would have been safer in your hands than the cult's."
Bruce glared at her, but kept his voice even. "Do not compare us to them. I can get over the journals being destroyed," he paused to look at Dick pointedly, making it clear he didn't believe the full story. "But do not think for a second that this was a successful mission. Still, you're right."
Barbara's eyes widened.
"We owe you some explanation. I will make my organization's files and background available to you. We are known to the world governments as the Justice League."
"The Justice League?" Wally asked. "Do you have any idea how silly that sounds?" Bruce glared at the redhead. "Sorry, I mean I'm sure you stand up for truth, justice, and the American way and that all sounds like a very trustworthy good cause," Wally tried.
Bruce's scowl softened a bit, and Dick swore he saw the man smirk just slightly. "It's something like that. Anyway, I've decided to allow you this information as a sign of good faith to you all. You need to know who you've been working for, and why the fight must go on."
Dick stared up at Bruce's cold eyes. "It's a start."
"Good," Bruce said turning to leave.
"One thing though, Batman," Dick called to the retreating man. "No more secrets. If we want access to your any more of your files in the future, you will give them to us. We need to know we're on the right side here, especially if we're the ones risking our necks every time something goes wrong."
Bruce nodded, but didn't turn around from the door. "Take a vacation. I'll need you all ready to go again soon." And with that the man was gone.
"Well that was enlightening. The Justice League? Really? What are they trying to do appeal to kids?" Wally asked.
"Whatever they are, there must be another reason for Bruce to reveal them to us now," Barbara said.
"I agree. I take it, you'll look into them?" Babs nodded to Dick. "Good, let me know if you find anything strange. I know they're trying to be more open, but that doesn't mean they aren't up to something. If they're letting us into their system, we should find out everything we can," Dick said.
"What about you? You won't be hacking into their servers too?" Artemis asked.
"I will, but I have plans at the moment," Dick replied, blushing slightly.
"They wouldn't happen to include Zatanna Zatara would they?" Wally asked lightly, causing Dick to turn bright red. "Right, well good luck with that boy wonder, Arty and I have a date with destiny, so we'll see you when you get back from the fancy world of popstars. Have fun," Wally teased, rising from his chair. Artemis joined him and the two left the briefing room.
Barbara smirked at Dick. "Don't worry about the Justice League, I'll look into it. Now go have fun with Zatanna. You've done enough."
Dick smiled at her. "Thanks, Babs."
He got up and left the briefing room, but heard Barbara call after him.
"Wait!" Babs hurried to him. "You forgot this," she said handing him the ring.
"What would I do without you?" Dick said grinning.
"Shut up," Barbara huffed. "Go get her already."
Dick didn't need to be told twice.

Wally ducked and watched the left hook pass right where his face had been only an instant earlier.
"C'mon Arty, you can do better than that," he chided and danced on his feet, moving away from the aggravated blonde.
Artemis growled from the other side of the boxing ring and slammed her boxing gloves together.
"Don't let him talk to you like that! Knock him out!" Ollie yelled from the ring side.
Wally grinned as she closed the space between them, throwing jabs and hooks his face. He dodged most of them, but she was able to force him back and into the corner.
"You're in trouble now, boy," Ollie hollered with a laugh.
Wally shrugged and blocked Artemis's glove with his own and then felt all the air in his lunges rush out. He instinctively dropped his hands to cover his hurt body and Artemis's strike to his stomach successfully left him exposed. She threw her nasty left hook again, this time dropping Wally flat on his back.
He looked up and saw the blonde's outline illuminated by the gym's overhead lights. "Are you an angel?"
She snorted. "I didn't hit you that hard, dork, and this is not Star Wars."
Wally hopped up and regretted it as the world spun, but press onward. "You got that reference! You have seen Star Wars! Ha! You're a nerd too!"
"Please, everyone's seen Star Wars," Artemis argued.
They peeled out of the ring, joining Ollie and Dinah on a bench.
"Not bad, kid, but you could use some work," Ollie badgered.
Now it was Dinah's turn to snort. "Like you're one to talk. I can still wipe the floor with you, Queen."
Oliver turned just a bit red at his wife's outburst, but gave Wally a hard stare. "At least I don't have to worry about Artemis, you're too soft to hurt her."
"Hey! He's tougher than he looks," Artemis cut in.
"Well, he looks like a plushie," Ollie grunted and Dinah giggled. "It's a good thing he's got a badass like you around to fight his battles for him."
The older couple walked away to grab some water bottles, and Wally turned to Artemis with a grin on his face. "I like them."
"Really? Ollie's was horrible to you."
Wally shrugged. "He's defensive, it's kinda cute. Besides I have you to protect me from him. My badass girlfriend."
Artemis put her arms around his neck. "And I have you to drive me to the ice cream shop, my personal valet."
Wally chuckled. "Babe, now you're speaking my language." Artemis grinned and closed the space between their lips.
Dick reached into his jacket pocket and produced the small jewelry box.
"Really, Thomas, I'm flattered, but this is a bit much. It's really only our second date," Zatanna chided, blue eyes glued to the package in Dick's hand.
Dick laughed. "I wouldn't want to overwhelm you with that, Z. It's just the ring I promised you for your next auction. The one from the Russian royal family."
He opened the box to reveal the diamond encrusted ring with its large center ruby.
"I'm not so easily shocked, Tom, but this ring is pretty amazing. It's going to go for a lot," she said looking up at Dick. "It'll raise a lot of money for charity. Thank you."
Dick smiled at the popstar. "That's not the only thing I wanted to give you."
Zatanna smirked. "There's more? I am a lucky girl."
"It's not another ring," he chuckled. "It's a secret actually."
She looked puzzled, but waited for him to continue.
"I don't really know how else to say this, so I'll just come clean with it. My name isn't Thomas Flint. It's Richard Grayson."
Now Zatanna's face blanked and she looked lost. "What?"
"I'm also not some successful business man, I work at an intelligence agency and perform covert operations."
"You're a spy?"
"Yeah," he grimaced. "That's actually why I was at your auction in the first place. We were hired to return the jade diamond necklace, which had been stolen by the way, to its original owners."
"You lied to me," she scowled.
"Yes, Z, but not about the rest. I really did grow up in an orphanage, and I promise you, everything I did was real. Everything." She blushed slightly at the memories. "I know it's messed up, but I care about you. This is real, what we have, and I wanted to tell you the truth. I'd completely understand if you never wanted to see me again, but I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
She studied his face, searching for something.
"That's why you anonymously donated to our charities because it was your fault the auction ended early."
Dick winced. "Yeah."
"Why would you tell me all of this now?" she asked quizzically.
"Because you were honest with me. You were genuine, and whatever we have, and I know you felt it too, I think is worth pursuing. And because of your letter." She let out a small smile. "You said good, genuine people are hard to find in this world, and that I was one of them. After that, I couldn't let you think I was someone else."
She looked at him long and hard and Dick dropped his gaze to his lap in shame. "So, you're a spy?"
"Yeah."
She grinned. "That's kind of cool."
Dick looked up at her, hope brimming his blue eyes. "Does that mean you forgive me?" he asked like a child.
"Oh, not in the slightest. I'm still pissed and you're going to have to earn forgiveness."
"How?"
She leaned forward and plucked the ring from his grasp, staring at the ruby. She looked up with a wild look in her eyes. "By doing what I say."
Dick suddenly felt warm like the restaurant's temperature had risen significantly. "Whatever you want, I'm yours."
She laughed. "Don't get too eager, Richard, it's unbecoming."
He flinched. "One more thing. People call me Dick."
"Huh, Dick. It suits you. I like it," she said.
"I know you do." Zatanna reached forward and flicked his nose. "Sorry, I couldn't help it," he apologized, but she was grinning too.
"And here I was thinking I was the cool one in this relationship, but you're some international man of mystery. I'm a bit underwhelming now."
"Never, you're perfectly whelming to me," Dick replied lazily.
"So, do you sleep with every girl you meet on missions?" she asked nonchalantly, gazing at her nails.
"Only the brilliant, funny, kind, and sexy ones," he said without missing a beat.
Zatanna laughed again. "That's a start, but you've got a long way to go if you want to dig yourself out of this hole."
Dick reached for the bill that had been laid on their table and put down the credit card he'd never given back to Bruce. "I can make it up to you even more if you want to get out of here."
Zatanna's blue eyes beamed and a few minutes later the pair left the restaurant, walking down the city's empty street.
"So, a spy and a performer. Where do we go from here, Dick Grayson?"
"I've got a few ideas."
"Really?"
"Well, for starters my hotel room is only a few blocks away."
Zatanna put her arm around his waist and he looped his around her shoulders, pulling her close.
"I knew you weren't a businessman."
"No way. How could you?"
"No businessman has this kind of ass," she said squeezing his right butt cheek.
Dick yelped in surprise, and then they both laughed. "You know, people seem to like my butt." Zatanna smirked and raised an eyebrow at the spy before they both erupted into laughter again.
Bruce leaned back in his office chair. It'd been a long day, and while he was glad the team had eliminated Ra's al Ghul and the League of Rasputin, he had to admit he was disappointed they'd failed to return the journals. More so, he was disappointed that they doubted him and his league's intentions. He knew from his CIA connections that Barbara was naturally paranoid, but it seemed like despite his reveal earlier, the team still didn't fully trust him.
Bruce frowned, he suspected that they hadn't been entirely truthful in the debrief, but Dick had never given him a reason to doubt him before, though there was a first time for everything. He sighed, and reached for his phone to dial a number.
The man on the other end picked up on the first ring, just as he'd expected. "Batman?"
"Robin, how did things go in Cambodia?"
"Fine, we recovered the girls, and turned the kidnappers over to the authorities."
"That's good to hear. Any problems?"
"Miss M got roughed up a bit undercover, and Supes went a little berserk on the kidnappers, but we're fine. We should be back in New York by the end of the week."
"About that, I'm going to need your team to come out to California. I could use your help out here."
"Sure thing, Batman. Robin out."
The other line went silent and Bruce put the phone down. He began tapping his fingers in nervous anticipation. Tim Drake was a loyal man to a fault. If Dick Grayson and his teammates were hiding any doubts about the Justice League, Tim would certainly find out. Bruce sighed and opened a new file that showed a picture of a man in a red mask. Maybe the teams could even manage to stop this red devil that'd been tormenting him for the past few weeks.
AN: That's all folks! Let me know what you thought of it, and yes I sort of set up a sequel and I have a general idea for what it would include but this took a while to write, so I'll commit to it only if there's interest.
:) Thanks for sticking with me and making it to the end, stay safe out there!
