Kagome woke to the feeling of warmth. Her eyes cracked open as she started to sit up.
Arms coiled around her waist and pulled her back down into a masculine chest. Her face flushed. She glanced up at the smirk she knew she'd find on her companion's expression.
"Sleep well?" Dabi tightened his hold over her.
Her voice left her. Kagome felt her throat go dry and her face grow several times warmer than it already was.
Truthfully, she'd never been this close to a man before. At least romantically. The only thing that was even remotely similar to it was when Bakugou had invited her out to lunch... and they were promptly joined by Kirishima and Kaminari by chance. They'd run into his friends at the mall and neither of them could quite shake the other two afterwards. Bakugou had been visibly frustrated at the time but Kagome hadn't paid it much mind.
She glanced up at Dabi.
He was enjoying himself entirely too much at this point.
His smirk had widened and an air of confidence surrounded him.
"You know, I seem to recall there being a spare bedroom upstairs. If you wanted to be even more comfortable..."
Kagome shot up, "Nope!"
Unfortunately, she found her thighs straddling his hips the second she lifted herself from his chest.
Dabi curled his hands around her waist and held her to his lap.
"This is new. Didn't think you were the bold type." His lips curled upwards. "I like the change."
He was teasing her.
Dabi had always taken a certain pleasure in making fun of her when they were children. It was as if seeing her flustered was his one true joy in life. She supposed that, that part of him would never change. The only issue now were the sexual undertones his jests had taken.
She braced her palms on his shoulders, "No! Bad Dabi!"
Jokingly, she began to shake him. She fought down a small laugh as his head snapped back and forth in response. Clearly, he was just letting her have her fun at the moment.
"Down boy, before I send you outside to sleep!"
The young man snorted through his nose, "I'd like to see you try." His gaze narrowed suddenly at the mischievous look that crossed her features. "On second thought, you sit your ass there and finish resting. I don't want you damaging yourself again."
Kagome slowly crawled off of his lap.
Dabi slid his legs to the floor as well.
An awkward silence filled the space between them.
How exactly were they supposed to respond to each other now? They weren't quite children anymore. There were certain things about Dabi that she couldn't help but notice now. For starters, how much muscle he'd managed to put on himself. Through the jacket and wife beater, she could feel the lean muscle tone. He was by no means bulky but he had a certain amount of power to his physique that hadn't been present before. Another thing was his height. He'd sprouted up like a bean stalk.
Kagome peered over at him.
He'd always been so short before hand. In fact she couldn't remember a time when he'd ever been taller than her. Yet now here he was. Towering over her by nearly an entire foot.
Dabi had become masculine in a way she never thought possible. It was an attractive quality to him that went beyond just the physical changes. There was something about his personality that shifted as well. He was much calmer than she last remembered and there was a smoothness to his voice that simultaneously put her at ease and set her senses on edge. It was as if she'd become hyper aware of every little change he'd gone through.
Her face flushed as she tried to shake the stray thoughts from her mind.
She couldn't think about that right now. She had to focus.
Kagome stopped.
Wait, focus?
A wave of dread ran down her spine.
"Dabi, what time is it?" Horror crept onto her features as she took in their surroundings. It was bright outside. Way too bright. Had she forgotten to set her alarms last night?
He leaned back, "After nine. Why?"
Kagome shot up from the couch. School! She'd almost forgotten!
"I'm so late!" The young woman darted up the stairs and towards her closet.
Aizawa was going to kill her!
