We move as quickly as we can back up to Altoona, honestly at this point I'm starting to think one of us should just stay up here, we'd save on some gas and man power. But I also know that Tench or Ford would be the one who wanted to stay and they'd never allow me to stay on my own. But since they both have a life outside of Quantico I can't ask them to stay up here on their time off. When we get to the station, Ocasek is the first to greet us, and he starts to fill us in on what's been going on, as we walk through the station. "So I got to thinking why did Mrs. Barnwright say that people were talking about Frank back then? I mean, what were they talking about, right?"

I nod, "Right, I'm guessing you found something good."

"Very," Ocasek nods, "I talked to this family court judge, who's a friend of mine. Sure enough, he remembers the case."

"But since Frank was a juvenile when it happened, it's not on his record now."

"Exactly. Count sealed the records. Fortunately, the judge is a very good friend of mine." Ocasek opens the file and lays some papers out on the desk, "here's what we've got on Frank's hearing, and his time at Warren State."

"Nice work, Mark." Tench looks over to Ocasek as he steps forward. "This is where your community system pays off." We all start looking over the file.

"He's been here since nine. Maybe we should..."

"Let him wait." Tench leans forward as Ford and I grab loose sheets of paper out of the file. "Why don't we have some coffee?"

Ford looks over to Ocasek, "If Frank's a hothead, it'll irritate him, throw him off."

Ocasek nods, "Ms. Nancy, I'm sure you want a tea, not coffee."

I smile over to Ocasek, "If you'd be so kind."

"Of course." Ocasek turns and heads into the officer's breakroom.

I look over to Ford, "You're up."

"What do you mean?" Ford looks back over to me.

"it's now an interrogation. I think some rough questioning is just what we need. Plus if Frank really is a hothead, someone walking over him, will piss him off even more."

"She's right." Tench nods.

I look over to Tench, "Do you want me in the room with the two of you?"

"Why nod." Tench shrugs, "Just make sure you stay by the door, in case things go south."

I nod, "Can do."

Tench looks between Ford and I, "Let's go."

"Aren't we gonna wait for our coffee?"

"drink it while we're in there."

When we get to the interrogation room, Frank is already in the room, sitting on the opposite side of the table and looks very uncomfortable. Ford and Tench sit at the table, while Ocasek and I stand in the back of the room. Ocasek by the wall, while I am by the door, just as Tench asked. Ford opens the file and looks over it for a minute, dragging it out as long as he can and starting the recorder. Eventually, he looks up to Frank, "Class of '71?"

Frank sighs, "yep."

"You go to your five-year reunion?"

"I don't really keep up with that stuff."

"It's commendable that you graduated, seeing as how you missed you junior year." Ford looks back down to the file.

"What do you want from me? I've been here all day. I answered all your questions last week." Frank looks up to Ocasek.

"We just have a few more." Ford looks over to Frank.

Frank takes a deep breath and looks around, "you've got everyone in a tizzy."

"You mean Benjamin?"

"Yeah. The whole family. Me, my wife, mom. You scared the shit out of Benji."

Ford sighs, "I'm sorry if we scare everyone." He closes the file, taps it on the desk and then hands it to Tench, "and for keeping you for so long. Beverly Jean Shaw was close with your family. We're simply looking for a little background."

"she wasn't that close."

"Well, she was about to marry your brother-in-law."

"They hadn't set a date."

I shake my head, "That doesn't mean anything."

Frank sighs, "I didn't spend a lot of time with her."

Ford looks over to Frank, "So you and Benjamin aren't close?"

"what's this 'close' shit? that's like women."

"Mrs. Barnwright said you looked out for him."

"Well, yeah, he's a shrimp."

"And he's your brother-in-law."

"yep."

"So you would help him if he needed it."

"yep."

Ford sighs, taking a couple of notes, "Did you fight a lot in High School?"

Frank lifts his hands into a fighter's position, "like Popeye." He looks around the room and when he realizes his joke didn't land he puts his hands under the table, still smirking.

Tench takes off his glasses, "how'd you land yourself in Warren State Psychiatric Hospital?"

Frank looks over to Tench, the smirk wiped from his face. He looks down at his hands, "It's probably in your fucking file."

"We wanna hear your side."

Frank sighs, putting his hands on the table, "this girl freaked out on me, came after me with a wrench. I tried to get it out of her hand, it swung back, hit her in the face."

I nod and cross my arms, "Multiple times?"

Frank shakes his head, "All I know is, after, all this shit comes raining down on me."

Tench turns toward Frank, being right next to him, "Why'd she freak out?"

"I was seeing some other girl, too."

"You a ladies man?" Ford places his pen back on his notepad.

"maybe. Back then."

Tench sighs, "They sent you to a mental institution."

"That was bullshit. I had to go, it was part of the plea."

"You did a plea deal?" Ford moves his head toward Frank. "Why not go to court, tell them what you told us?"

"My lawyer said I'd never win against a sweet girl with a broken nose." Frank looks between Tench and Ford, "There were other infractions, I was running around like a jackass back then."

"But no longer?"

"I'm married now. Got a kid."

I shake my head, "But that doesn't change who a man is, just how he is supposed to behave."

Tench nods, "Marriage and fatherhood don't make anger go away."

Frank shakes his head, "I wasn't angry, I was just..."

"Misunderstood?" Ford shrugs.

"makes me sound like a pussy, but yeah."

"You wanna tell us about the night Beverly Jean disappeared?" Tench puts his arm up on the back of his chair.

Frank sighs, "I don't know, it was uh... typical, I guess. Rose was still pregnant back then." Frank moves back and forth a bit in his chair, "Got her some dinner and watched TV."

"So you were home all night."

"no."

"No?"

Frank puts his elbows on the table, "no, i told you. I went out and got us dinner."

"how long were you gone?"

"I don't know, 15, 20 minutes maybe."

"Where'd you get food?" Ocasek leans forward a bit, from his leaning position against the wall.

"Rose likes the rolls at Hannah's Diner on Market Street."

"And Rose will confirm this?"

"Am i under some kind of suspicion here?"

"We're just looking at it from every angle," Ford looks up to Frank, having been taking some more notes.

"No, Beverly Jean was, uh... was Benji's girl." Frank looks from Ford to Tench, "I barely knew her."

"That seems so strange, seeing as how she was about to be part of the family."

"Stop saying it like that?"

"Why?" I step toward the table, "it's true."

Tench crosses his arms, "You said they hadn't set a date for the wedding."

"It was loose."

"They were engaged weren't they?"

"Benji thought they were."

"But Beverly had other ideas?" I tilt my head a bit.

Ford takes a deep breath, "the impression I got was that she was in love with him, wanted to marry him."

Frank shakes his head, "oh man, I don't want to rain on his parade..."

Tench leans forward a bit, "You're saying he made the relationship more than what it was?"

"She let him call her his girlfriend."

"he got that apartment for her."

"Yeah, that was the big plan, get her to move in."

Ford nods, "Was Beverly even sleeping with him?"

"Now and again. A looker like her, he thought he'd died and gone to heaven."

"You found her attractive?"

"She's a seven."

"Really? From the photos, I'd give her an eight."

"No," Frank shakes his head, pointing over to me, "That's an eight." I shake my head and scoff, Frank just shrugs, "I thought Benji had done pretty good for himself."

"Especially for a guy who's..." Ford takes a deep breath, "so quick to cry."

"Shit, yeah."

"Do you think that he was satisfying her?"

Frank takes a deep breath and shakes his head, "I don't think he was blowing her mind."

"She tell you that?"

"Not is so many words, but when a chick's enjoying it, she's all over you." Frank looks between Ford and I, "How aren't you all over him right now?"

I scoff again, "I'm sorry?"

"What you can't tell me that you two aren't sleeping together." Frank chuckles. "I see the way you look at him. This is some kind of foreplay, for the two of you, right?"

Ford takes a deep breath and shakes his head, "You think Beverly Jean knew the difference? You think she'd been around?"

"I'd say she was, uh... open."

"Benjamin see it that way too?"

"I don't know if he didn't get it or he didn't want to."

We end up letting Frank go, since we couldn't charge him with anything, we couldn't hold him. I head to the break room and get a hot tea, being freezing in the station. Ford walks in and pours himself a cup of coffee, "Hey."

"hey." I smile softly.

Ford chuckles, "did you uh... enjoy the foreplay?" Ford asks rather awkwardly.

"I mean, if that's a good I'm gonna get, I guess."

"I'm sorry."

"It's alright." I shrug, "But it's nice to know people think we're sleeping together." I nod, "makes a lot of sense."

"Well, think about it. We are the same age, we spend a lot time together, neither of us are married."

"Yes, but you have Debbie."

"yeah, but people don't know that."

"That's true," I take a sip of my tea.

"But, try not to be jealous."

I chuckle, "Why would I be jealous? From what we're learning other's aren't exactly faithful. So sounds like I'm dodging a bullet."

"Is that a surprise though?" Ford takes a sip of his coffee.

I shake my head, "from everyone we've talked to said Beverly Jean was nice, loyal, decent."

"Well... No one's gonna come right out and say the dead girl was easy."

I shake my head, "Frank's cagey, he deflected about the deal in high school. He could have made it all up."

"And if he didn't? If Beverly had the upper hand in the relationship and made Benji feel jealous by seeing other men, if Benjamin felt sexually powerless."

"He might lash out with the kind of anger Bill described." I nod, "We need to talk to Benjamin about this."

"Bring him in?"

"Get him in a new environment, caught off guard, yeah."

"I like your thinking." Ford nods, "I'll get Ocasek." He quickly leaves the room.

I stand there for a moment thinking, 'am I really jealous of Debbie?' 'do I look at Ford in a romantic way?' 'Or was Frank just being an ass?'
