GRAY P.O.V.
It's now been several days since I left with Erza to Lucy's house to get needed certain paperwork and I took a shower. According to the nurse Lucy has been in the ICU for about a week and half or her terms: Day 11. I just want her to be able laugh with me, talk about the crazy waitress that comes by with meals that look like my face, or to even hear her say something just one more time.
Mira and Erza walk in holding another bag of food for me just as long as it doesn't have my face on it I'll try to eat it. Erza goes to hug me, but first she goes a sniff check to make sure I'm not stinking like I did before.
"All clear" She says before fully giving me a hug and still does a light spray. I began to laugh before I looked back to see Lucy still sleeping peacefully. "Listen Gray, she has been through more stuff than we wish to admit. She has to have a strong will and I know she'll get through this." She turns towards Lucy's direction and shouts "You're strong so please prove me right and open your eyes."
Lucy stood with her eyes closed and we all went silent. Nobody wanted to say anything because we all know it's too painful to admit. At that moment, I felt drops of water on my hand and I looked up to see Erza silently crying. I think it's best if we go to the waiting room and just decompress. I slowly get up from the chair and hold Erza for that moment. I never like seeing her cry because she's one of the most powerful women I've ever known.
"Hey, why don't you come with me and eat something." She nodded in agreement as we walked out the room.
Three Days Later...
I'm heading back to hospital with Jellal and Erza because I still can't drive for another week. It's interesting to see Erza in love for one thing, but to have her act that way in front of me was like I was in the twilight zone.
"How was last night? Did you get plenty of sleep?" Erza turned around to the backseat to ask me because it's been the first night I didn't stay at the hospital. I took a breath before trying to answer this question. I just don't think it's smart to be completely honest, but I have to give her some sort of answer.
"It was alright, just waiting to get things back to normal overall." She quietly nodded and returned to look back at the front. I can tell it really impacted her, but I saw Jellal's hand made its way to hers.
"You're ready to get that sling off, huh?" Jellal trying to attempt to change the subject that was lingering over us all. I can tell he's good for Erza and truly cares about her feelings. I should follow his lead to help lighten the mood.
"You have no idea!" We all began to smile genuinely before going into a place that lost hope a long time ago. I have a good feeling today, and I will keep that spirit for this day. Someone got to shine a little light once in a while.
Jellal starts parking the car, and when it stops we all know we have to enter that hospital. All the fears and doubts began to swarm above us like a hurricane, but we need to get through this together as a team. I was the first one to step out of the car and even then my legs wobbled for a second, but I knew I could do this. Then both Jellal and Erza followed my lead as we slowly walked into the hospital.
We finally reached the room and Mirajane passed out on the chair, but she must've stayed up all last night because it was noon. We didn't want to wake her up because she needs some sleep. Erza grabs the seat next to Lucy to just be there to make sure she's breathing. We all silently move to seats around Mira. We all stayed sitting there for a good thirty minutes before the nurse came in to check on Lucy.
Mira's eyes slowly opened to see everyone here and she smiled before putting her chair next to Erza's. "Lucy, we are all here waiting." They both grabbed Lucy's hand as they sat there hoping something would happen.
Erza began to stroke the few strands of hair that was okay to touch and just then Lucy's nose wrinkled. We shot up to ensure we all saw what we saw, and Erza started shaking as she looked back at the rest of the group. "Should I continue to do it?"
"YES!" We all shouted in unison and Erza moved closer to Lucy as she continued to stroke those few strands. Lucy seems to be reacting to something Erza is wearing "Erza, what perfume are you wearing?" She's looking at me like a crazy man.
"I don't kno-" She begins to shrug, but something pulls her attention.
"Mama" Comes from a raspy voice, and we all look at Lucy to see her eyes are slowly waking up. We all rushed towards her, and she's trying to say something. "Wa…. w….. T… er" We all can't make sense of it, but I listen more intently "w...a..t.. er"
"She needs some water, somebody give me the cup with the stick and page the doctor." I yelled out while Jellal got the doctor and Mira got the water for her. I knew today was going to be a great day. I just knew it!
NATSU P.O.V.
I just finished today's training and I feel like I'm going to be perfectly fine for the final exam in the physical part. I have no idea I'm going to be able to pass the written exam. It's going to take some serious studying to get this correct. I can't ask Gray because he's been putting all his time and energy towards Lucy. I don't want to take him away from her, but I also can't ask Mira because she's busy with the restaurant and Lucy. I look down at my phone to see it's 5pm and that means I have enough time for food then going to hospital. Sometimes I go to visit Lucy, but I try to give myself distance considering I hurt her feelings the last time she was awake. I could ask Wendy! She's been helping with everything to make sure I go on the right path plus I do have my meeting today. I'm happily 10 days sober!
I heard a ding coming from my phone to see a message from Gray.
You need to get here.
I quickly threw everything I needed in a bag and jogged to the car. I drove as fast as I could to the hospital. I rushed all the way to Lucy's room. I get to the door out of breath, but I can see that there was everyone inside. No, it can't be. I pushed through everyone to see Lucy and I finally got through to see her. I nearly fell to my knees when I saw her eyes OPENED and I can't believe she's awake.
"Lucy," I said and she tried to look my way, but my cousin came up to me. She pulled me aside to give me a talk.
"Look Natsu, I did a quick neurological exam and the signs are looking good, but we don't know if she has any damages. I told this all to your friends, so for now she needs rest." I just nodded, but I looked at Lucy and she looked very confused. No wonder everyone feels like they are on eggshells. What did I miss?
